Z97 Gaming 7 First build problems

First here's my build:
Phantechs Pro Full Tower Case
MSI Z97 Gaming 7 Motherboard
Intel i7-4790K Processor
Corsair Vengeance Pro 16GB  (2x8GB) DDR3 2400MHZ PC3 19200 Desktop Memory
Intel 120GB SSD, Windows 8.1 Pro
MSI Geforce GTX 970 Gaming 4GB Graphics Card
EVGA SuperNova 750G1 750w 80+ Gold Haswell Certified PSU
Corsair H100i CPU Cooler
I first built the system in feb. 2015 and i set it up in bios for raid 0 with 2 samsung 850 pro's 250gb for O.S. and had win 8.1 features off, fast boot off and installed windows then updated graphics driver and all motherboard drivers and successfully updated bios to latest i believe 1.7, then i installed all my games and rendering software and went through each to set up, everything seems fine for a few days of gaming and video rendering with i think very cool cpu temps of 28-46 degrees C, after about 3 days of no signs of problems the sytem just goes blank! Complete shutdown! with no signs of life whatsoever! I unplug the power and reset cmos with nothing, i take everything out the case and place MB on its box and just use psu one stick memory in slot one or a1 and nothing but board graphics to monitor and it would never do anything so i rma'd the mb, when the replacement arrived i did a out of system post testing on box with everything passing to post fine, so i installed into pc case only thing different this time around i used a intel ssd in ACHI mode with win 8.1 Pro features on and fast boot because i read up on the samsung ssd drives having compatibility issues with some newer mb's so once all together i installed windows again thank god for flash drives because my 8.1 pro will install in bout 5 minutes from usb! ok installed and updated just as before and everything seems fine with temps no errors anywhere! after bout 2 days it just shutdown again with nothing happening like no lights on board or any sign of power so i took psu out and done a power fan on test and was good! I took mb out and box test everything i possibly could to get life out of it but none! Once again rma'd it! Ok so then i was in a two week turnaround with that mb so i figured what the heck i'll order from good ol amazon a new mb but i wanted to see if it was my particular type mb so i ordered a z97 pc mate with making sure all componets was on its compatiblity list! once arrived done exactly as my 2nd time with the same results, after a few days of on and off and rendering and gaming with cool temps it just went blank, no power! any resetting cmos or changing sticks of memory or anything would change it! I really need ome advise! I about ready to take everything to my burn barrell out back!

So.. Memory could cause issue with boot but not really killing whole thing. I had motherboard a while ago that RAM slot got burnt. But I was able to boot fine when I have put the RAM stick into other slot so RAM in your case should not kill whole thing, especially if you havent populated all slots. CPU.. very rare to be the issue but may happen. Case.. yes might be shortening motherboard killing it by the end. So when you get new part(s), run your system on motherboard box for few days. If nothing happens then you can take risk of placing it into the case.. but not sure if its worth the risk if it is indeed a case?
PC tech without equipment to test(at least PSU and RAM)? Weird.

  • MSI Z97 Gaming 7 power up problem

    Hi
Just build a new PC with Z97 Gaming 7, but when powering up it lighten up and the debug  led is runing through a lot of numbers and then it powers down. It takes only a few seconds.
I have measured the voltage on pin JPWR1 an JPWR2 and all the levels are correct.
I have cunsulted the manual for levels on the V-Check connector but I can't find any.
I have measured the voltage on that connector and they are as follows:
    Pin1 - VCCIN =1.765V
    Pin2 - DDR =1.5V
    Pin3 - Core = 0.75V
    Pin4 - GFX = 0V
    Pin5 - Ring = 0.76V
    Pin6 - C_SA =0.9V
I have tried to unplug all the connectors (SSD, HDD, DVD, Fan's etc.) one at a time with no result.
I have tried to set RAM in different positions (got two blocks of 8Gb).
    1. Dimm1 and Dimm2
    2. Dimm1 and Dimm3
    3. Dimm2 and Dimm4
    4. Dimm1 (only one block and tried both seperate)
    Same result
I took the graphic card out and the WiFi PCIe card - same result.
I took the JPWR2 power plug out and then it didn't power down but of course the CPU is not running then.
Hope someone can help me, please

  • Z97 Gaming 7 New build

    Hi All
Old user (mechwookie) here, seeking maybe a little guidance.
I'm finally getting a enw build from my trusty P35 Neo3 FR and Q6600 combo.
    It will consist of:
    Z97 Gaming 7 mobo
i5 4690 (not sure if going for the K version yet)
16gb DDr3 (probably will stick with stock speed 1600mhz Ram) Geil Black Dragon Ram
MSI GTX 960 2gb OC VGA card
I'll be retaining my current drives and PSU (which is less than 1yr old)
    Novatech Powerstation V2 600w Modular
    Samsung 840 Evo 120gb
    WD 1tb 7200 (main storage/backup)
    Samsung Spinpoint 200gb 7200 (photo's and music)
    Samsung Spinpoint F2 500gb 7200 (video)
Cooling the CPU will be a Corsair H60 unit, all enclosed in my current case, a Bitfenix Comrade case.
Now I currently have 3 120mm fans providing airflow (2 filtered to the front intake, 1 exhaust)to my Arctic Cooling Freezer 13 Pro on the Q6600.
The fans are currently a mish mash of types. The 120 original exhaust that came with the Comrade, an old Akasa 120 (at least 4 yrs old) and a Cougar CF-V12HP PWM fan.
Now when I do build this, because of where its going and what i can physically do for airflow, I will set up a push pull on the H60, having it as an exhaust fan while having two new fans in the front as intake again.
    so, question is::::
Am I likely to get any issues running two Cougar CF-V12HP's off a splitter from a single fan header from the Gaming 7 as i'd like to control them from the bios?
Also, is it worth getting the 2 intake fans as PWM for quietness at low rpm, or just have two non PWM's which will mean they end up likely at full speed unless i set then at a lower level in the bios...?

    Well, PWM fans ordered.
now i need to finalise the rest.
Now looking at changing the Ram and cpu to
16 gb dual channel Kingston HyperX Savage 2400Mhz
    i5 4690K
It will give me some room to play with the OC if i should then wish.
It also bumps me from under £570 ish to £610
As for the brand, I couldn't really tell you the exact brand they use, Novatech is the supplier who have a PSU branded for them to retail.
Have seen a post that mentions they might be what used to be the OCZ Modstream psu's, but cannot confirm this.
    And this is it:

However if you need BIOS update prior to have some RAM or GPU working fine (or other stuff), then maybe consider updating to 1.6 and then to 1.9 and finally to 1.B (1.11). I suggest using MFlash (files can be downloaded on MSI's product site, instructions should be included). For Forum Flash tool you need proper files provided (usually) by Svet or Flobelix.
Before attempting to flash, make sure your system is stable!
I downloaded BIOS 1,5 and 1,6 and in both cases i have same issue it stucks on 100% on M-Flash, after this I can normaly shut down pc and it work but witch 1.4 BIOS. I just want know whyi can;t
    updtate.

  • Z97 Gaming 3 board SBC2 problems

I recently bought a Z97 Gaming 3 Board and installed all the drivers with the CD and live update 6.
Whenever i open Sound Blaster cinema 2 it says that theres no audio device available.
I've tried the following thing a couple of time wich i found on this forum.
i've uninstalled the realtek Audio program, SBC2 and deleted all the audio devices in Device manager.
reinstalled the Realtek audio (from website and antoehr time from the update tool again) After that reinstalled SBC2 (also from website and update tool) and i still get the same message.
HD sound is enabled in the BIOS
I hope someone knows a way to get my SBC2 working, because it improves sound.
Im using a 5.1 Headset( connected the Sound optimised USB, and a 2.1 audio set connected to the 3.5 jacket on the back
    Thanks for the time
    i5 4690k
    8gb Ram 1600mhz
    MSI GTX970

    690II coolermaster with window
    600w PSU
    256gb Crucial mx100

SB2, or any other Realtek/Creative offering made to enhance the analog audio subset isn't going to recognize a USB headset and work with it. You would need to be using a normal analog headset for SB2 to "see" it and use it's functionality. USB is separate from your regular motherboard analog audio source. For instance I have a Z87 G43M that has the Creative SoundBlaster Cinema. It's not going to work with any USB headset only a regular 3.5mm connector headset.

  • Z97 Gaming 5-First PC build-major/deal breaking sound issue

The sound coming from the Motherboard, front panel audio jack and the audio jack from the IO at the back is EXTREMELY distorted. It is absolutely horrible, the volume is also extremely low, the sound is distorted and cuts out very often. This has rendered my speakers and headphones useless and is a possible deal breaker-if i do not get assistance i will have to replace this motherboard with another version. i have updated realtek drivers, latest bios version etc.

Quote from: TZBC on 09-December-14, 16:48:25
Your realtek drivers is 6.0.1.7293 from MSI website?
Try the latest High Definition Audio Codecs form realtek
    http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=24&PFid=24&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false#1
Believe it or not, .7293 is indeed the latest RealTek driver for the 892.  Kudos for MSI for getting it posted--first time I've seen the MSI-posted set newer than the set available direct from the RealTek site.

  • MSI x99 Gaming 7 first install problem

    Hi everybody,
Could you help me about my next problem?
Today I tried to install my X99 G7 MB with I7 5820k CPU. I followed the manual step by step but the MB dosent respond to power button. I can switch on only the OC button on MB and that is lighting blue as well until I switch off again. After a few seconds an little blue led starts flashing that is above the JTPM1 connector and thats all.
The psu is working well, I have already tested by the previous PC components.
    Any idea? Thanks in advance.....

[ ERROR: SPECIFIED ATTACHMENT MISSING ] [ ERROR: SPECIFIED ATTACHMENT MISSING ] Hello again,
So yesterday I took my new pc components  (cpu, mb, rams) back to the seller for testing.
He unboxed a new RM750 PSU but the during the test there was the same problem, no result.
Then he found some print of thermal paste on mb surface that came from my fingers.
He investigated the cpu socket and he found something (1mm size) between two pins. According to his statement there is thermal compound and it caused short in MB. Additionally he appreciated one defected pin on the socket. Based on these he dosent want to sent the MB back with guarantee, RMA.
After this I check the MB at home again.
1.) I took out a little dust/fleck from the socket instead of thermal compound.
2.) I used the Noctua NT-H1 thermal paste that I got with the Noctua cooler well [ ERROR: SPECIFIED ATTACHMENT MISSING ] [ ERROR: SPECIFIED ATTACHMENT MISSING ] . This is not electrically conductive so it can not cause short-circuit. I checked it on the official web page.
3.) After the unboxing of MB I did not search defected pins as in normal case, so I just placed the cpu into socket carefully. This was not my first cpu installation....Additionally it is not possible to cause defect on only one pin by cpu placing. I attached a photo with red circle, there is small "phenomenon", not easy to observe it. Probably I got this MB with this defect.
I would like to get idea what can I do in this case. I sure this is not my fault and I dont want to lose my money. Should I sent an compiant directly to the MSI?

  • Z97 Gaming 5 + Nepton 280l Problems

    Hi
first of all thank you for reading my Topic
second really sorry for my bad english writing
i have problem with lowering Nepton 280l water pump speed (rpm), here's the things!
i guess everyone in the earth knows Nepton series are all noisy products, so to reduce this whiny pumps need to lower pump rpm, in order to do that i checked the bios and pull down the pump rpm to 50 percent but nothing happens and pump rpm still was at max speed....!!! pump 4pin cable attached to cpufan 1 header and two jetflow fans attached to cpufan 2 header, all of two fans loose their rpm but pump still working at 7000rpm!
so i decided to change the fan header and attached the pump 4pin cable to sysfan 3 and after lowering speed to %50, pump rpm reduced to 4500rpm too but it still noisy and need to reduced at least under 4000rpm, so my problem begin right there...!!! sysfan header only capable of lowering rpm to %50 and fifty percent means 4500rpm
    THNX

Can you tell me: how many pins pump header has? And I mean pins that are populated (number of pins should be equal to number of thin cables).
    + this
    Quote from: paulus.cobris on 27-April-15, 23:52:54
    Hello...
Because allmost all the pumps and Voltage Based Regulated and not PWM (Power Modulation).
Power modulation requires a dedicated controller just for the pump.
So if you plug a 3 or even 4 pin (but not really PWM), on the cpu plug, you will not control the voltage of the pump.
Only sysfans have the 3 pin voltage control.
    With my best Regards,
    LPC

  • MSI z97 Gaming 9 Network problems

I just finished my first build and i used the msi z97 gaming 9 ack motherboard. After installing all drivers and everything i tried to connect to the network via wifi and ethernet, but neither worked. When using wifi, it could see the networks but wouldn't connect to any of them. Also, when i plugged in a working ethernet cord, the lights didn't even blink on the port and it didn't show up as having anything plugged in. I am running windows 8 pro 64 bit. I have no idea why it is doing this and am starting to get very frustrated by it. If anyone could help it would be much appreciated. Thank you!

is the lan card enabled in bios setup and function properly inside OS? [check it in device manager]
Yes the BIOS is saying that it is turned on, and the device manager lists these under Network adapters:
    Bluetooth Device (Personal Area Network)
    Bluetooth Device (RFCOMM Protocol TDI)
Killer e2200 Gigabit Ethernet Controller (NDIS 6.30)
Killer Wireless-n/a/ac 1525 Wireless Network Adapter
    Microsoft Kernel Debug Network Adapter
Also in the BIOS menu, it isn't showing the wifi adapter that came with the board. It is plugged in andscrewed onto the board and it can find networks, but can't connect. It just looks like a blank spot in the board explorer option in the BIOS. Any reason it would be doing this?

  • MS-7926 (Z97 GAMING 9 AC) BSOD + Memory Problems

    Hello All,
i have some trouble with my new system.
    - MS-7926 Rev 1.0 (MSI Z97 GAMING 9 AC) with BIOS/UEFI v1.4 (but same with v1.3)
    - Intel i7-4790K (with Prolimatech Armageddon)
    - 16GB (4x 4GB) Crucial Ballistix Tactical Tracer 1866
    - Gigabyte GTX770 Windforce 3 4GB (working stable for several months in my old system)
    - Windows 7 x64 SP1
After completion occured some unnormal BSOD with unspecific Error Codes even in Idle-Desktop, e.g.. 0A (IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL), 1E (KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED), and some others. I reinstalled Windows and drivers again but problem stayed.
Then i used MemTest86+ v5.01. While 4 passes only 1 time an error happened. While Test #7 at 0.0 MB (seems DIMM1). I exchanged DIMM1 with 4 and tested further. Again 1 error in 3 passes. This time at 0.8 MB (again DIMM1). The former DIMM1 now at DIMM4 produced no errror.
I exchanged the board. BSOD are now less often but still there. Again MemTest finds the same strange error only in DIMM1, equally which of the 4 same modules sits in there.
I've found some reports about problems with Crucial Ballistix and MSI Boards and now i wonder if someone has running such combination without problems?
Any other thoughts to solve it?

That is most likely the issue. That is called mixing which is NOT recommended, especially if all of these were separately sold sticks.
Even mixing of 2 kits of 2x4 can be an issue.
If you are able to borrow MATCHED 4x4 set from a friend/colleague from work, then do it so you can test how it works.
As these are Crucials, I would contact them and ask if they could replace 4 separate modules for 1 matched kit. At least Corsair does similar, so hopefully Crucial would do it too.

I'd be more for RMA'ing the board.
But personally, I'm staying away from Killer Network products from now on. They are buggy and do not work very well when they don't work. Sometimes they don't work at all. Check back through these forums, and one of the biggest issues with any of the boards and/or laptops is always the Killer Networks NIC's. And there is no simple and easy fix for many of the issues.
If it was me, I'd buy a nice wireless card and use that instead. Or do the Intel mod you posted about.
I won't say that the Killer Networks device SHOULD work, but time and time again they prove to not work. In that case, I'd replace it with something that will and move on. A $40 wireless card to not spend days or weeks trying to fix the problem is money well spent in my opinion.
now im going with powerlink and all went good, but as all know, powerlink after 2 years will broke and need to replace..... but online game with eth is always better.
So im tihink to resend to AMAZON and ask for refund and ill rebuy a gaming 7 without wifi this change refund me a good 100 euro......

  • Management Engine problems z97 gaming 5

Hello! I just bought my z97 gaming 5 yesterday and tried to flash the latest BIOS which is "1.5".
Ended up being stuck at the Management engine @ 100%.
So i just went ahead and flash via the MSI live update utility in windows and i am now on the latest BIOS (1.5)
The problem seems that the board's management engine is possibly corrupted? Because i cant install the intel ME driver in windows, always ends up in a fatal error.
I would like to reflash the BIOS and ME to 1.5 using the procedure in this thread to try and fix the issue.
    Help?

    Use the below to retry:
    >>Use the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<<
A.) Download the attached archive (180.rar) and place it on your desktop. Do not decompress.
B.) Download and install the Forum flash tool.
C.) Insert your FAT32 formatted usb stick.
D.) Make sure that all win 8 options are disabled. (Fast Boot etc) Also make sure the legacy USB is enabled.
E.) Start the forum flash tool and select option 1. Then point the tool at the compressed archive we downloaded earlier. Then to your USB Flash Drive.
         F.) Boot to the USB
G.) Now follow the directions and let the tool flash
H.) After flashing reinstall ME drivers in Windows: http://download.msi.com/dvr_exe/intel_me10_mb.zip

Give this a try. OS HDD in SATA 1 port, 2nd HDD in SATA port 2. ODD & front case can be left as is. What controller mode was the OS installed with in the other system? With a new system, it is almost never a smooth transition with a HDD that has a previous OS on it. All the chipset drivers & other drivers will be wrong for the new system. A new fresh install is always the only sure-fire way to go.
This is what i started with, the original HD is IDE, but even still, the SATA ports wont register ANYthing, it's like the connection is broke.. I'm getting in touch with them through customer support. Hopefully they will be able to help / replace the board. I posted on some other forums and they all led back to the motherboard being faulty. I even ripped everything back out of the case and laid the board on cardboard, and it was the same thing.
    I appreciate your help.

  • Problem MSI z97 Gaming 7

Hi guys.. need some help.. I have a Z97 Gaming 7 MOBO and I cannot making this thing work with 16gb of ram ( Corsair Vengance 2X8gb 1600mhz), with just one stick ( 8gb ) works fine.. any ideas?

it should work fine so something is wrong!
1: as you have not been very specific please read >>Posting Guide<< and give specifics on your system!
2: is it one DIMM slot that works only and have you tested all the slots with one stick of memory?
my best guess will be you have bent pins in the CPU socket or damaged traces!
