Z97 gaming 7 motherboard

Hi everyone,
This is an old topic I'm sure but here it it is: just built a new machine, my first of course, and it has teething problems. After many false starts and unsuccessful tries the machine has settled down to the following condition:
With mouse, keyboard, monitor, RAM, graphics card all installed the machine will not boot...all the led lights come on, the ssd is working (light blinks) but no video nor boot. The following debug codes keep cycling through: 10  19  55.
At first (right after completing putting it all together) it would not load from the cd drive, saying it "must run as administrator" but would not do so after selecting that function; nor would it accept the login administrator password. I loaded Windows 7 onto a flashdrive on my other machine and loaded Windows from the flash, and the machine would then boot in Safe Mode, but still wouldn't recognize the cd drive. Obviously I have not loaded the MSI drivers disc so I don't know if that is why the machine now won't boot at all. Backing up: after booting in Safe Mode for several tries, the machine went into an on and off cycle when starting up, then to the present condition of not booting at all with the above debug codes.
Any thoughts appreciated.
Thanks.

Here's the latest...returned the motherboard to MSI and they quickly replaced it and I installed it yesterday. Now the computer will boot continuously and today it went through an almost complete reinstallation of Windows 7, but when it restarted automatically to complete the installation, the "Starting Windows" process goes as far as the four colored balls circling and joining up, then freezes again. It will start in Safe Mode, but only as far as the blue screen with the message "Setup is Starting Services" immediately followed with an error message: "Windows cannot complete installation in Safe Mode. To continue installing Windows, restart the computer". After hitting the restart prompt, the blue screen gives the message: "Setup will continue after restarting your computer", but after a restart, it once again hangs up with the four colored Windows logo balls in the middle of the screen.
At least the machine will repeat itself to this point, unlike before when something different each time startup was tried. All the components are installed, both ram sticks in slots 1 & 3, video card installed. ??????

  • Can a Z97 Gaming 7 motherboard do 0 rpm fans on its BIOS fan curve ?

    Z97 Gaming 7
Can the CPU and case fan curves be set as low as 0 rpm ?
I have 0rpm mode PSU & graphics cards.  The dual tower cooler is enough at idle for the CPU.  It would be great to turn the system on without any fans turning on at all until needed.

Nope, 0% is not possible. Even with aftermarket fan controllers, user's manual states that disabling the fan (0%) is possible but at user's responsibility.
    Thanks for the reply.
    1)
What is the lowest % you can go?
    2)
Where on the board is the motherboard temp sensor?
    3)
The manual (page 3-29)  shows a graph of deg C 0-100 and RPM 0 - 7000.  However on the right your markers are displayed as temp/fan % .  My guess is you set the 4 fan markers from the percentages on the right and the 0-7000rpm Y axis scale is purely for the readout of the current fan speed and not related to the markers.  Is this correct?

  • How to use 3tb hhd on Z97 gaming 3 motherboard

    Hi All,
I am using Win7 64 bit, and z97 gaming 3 mb, but the Windows can only use 2.2 GB size with MBR mode.
Google found MSI has 3tb+ infinity function, how to apply to my PC?
    Many Thanks.
    Philip

    Hi Philip,
It’s also a win7 limitation, UEFI GPT supports much higher than 2T
As the MBR only locates a HD for a maximum range of 2T, the maximum partition and the starting position of last partition should be less than 2T.
For example, a 4T HD (3.7 available usually), you can divide it as
    1.9 + 1.8T or 1T+0.8T+1.9T.
It is NG to do 1.3 + 1.2 + 1.2 , because the position of last part begins from
    2.5 T.

  • Z97 Gaming 7 Motherboard with FiiO E10K AMP

I recently purchased the Sennheiser G4ME One headset and found out today that I could have gotten the Sennheiser G4ME Zero headset, with closed headphones for better noise cancelling, and it has better audio with an amp. I want to know if the motherboard in the subject will be fine with the amp I want to buy with it. I'm not very knowledgeable about this sort of stuff, so i'm looking for some help. Also, I know this isn't the best place to ask because it's not an MSI product, but could someone who replies maybe direct me somewhere to find out what I would need to buy along with the E10K amp? Does it come with everything I would need to set it up in accordance with my Sennheiser G4ME Zero headset?

  • Z97 gaming 5 motherboard-2nd PCI x16 slot wired at x8?

    Hi,
I connected my gtx980 on my 2nd PCI x16 slot and GPU-Z reads as x8.However,when I connected it back to the 1st slot,it reads as x16.Would like to confirm if that's the supposed outcome or is there any BIOS configuration that I can change?
    Thanks

Yes the second x16 sized slot is only wired for x8 operation. the only way a board like that could have 2 full x16 slots is if it has PLX chips but they are very costly and only get used on stuff like a X-Power model board!
so its behaving normally on yours as that is how its setup!

  • Msi z97 gaming motherboard displays debug led D0 (00) .

    Hello all.
    I urgently need some advice.
I recently bought a msi z97 gaming 5 motherboard and I had it installed into my rig.  Everything was working fine. I decided to do some cable management in my case today and afterwards wanted to switch my pc on to find it dead. I switched off the power and made sure that I discharged all electrostatic power.
The psu delivers power to the board as all the case fans spin, the light trail lights up an my fan controller works.
My peripherals (key board,  mouse) don't   light, as well as my monitor. There is ia also no boot beeps.
The debug led displays a code 00 which is  not in the manual. I already tried removing the cmos batery  and also cleared the cmos with the cmos jumper en still nothing.
I even removed both my ram modules and still no boot beeps.
If there is someone out there please help...

i got the same issue by chance few days ago 00 error but with dual bios chip board.
    and able to fix it,
i narrow it down that somehow the bios chip selection wasn't switched ..
even after power off, and flip the switch i meet 00 error and no LED on bios chip has light
switching to the secondary bios chip worked fine,
then when i flip the bios chip while the system was booted, switching was successfully,
and at next power off and power up was booting with the other bios chip fine and no longer 00 error
however for your board, i see board has 1 bios chip only
im not sure if would have bios chip led indicator or not..
checking high res image of your board at: https://media.msi.com/main.php?g2_itemId=110010&g2_imageViewsIndex=1
think i can see the led indicator side by side to JBAT1
so your board probably also should have bios chip led indicator
and based on your second photo that you provided: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=253991.0;attach=22345;image
i don't see this LED to light... it should be near to 00 debug code
so probably bios chip doesn't kick in for some reason...
and i don't know how this can be fixed since your board don't have dual bios chips..
looks like something become damaged when you tried to re-arrange your cables..
else don't have idea what else you can try, except to rma the board

  • Msi z97 gaming 5 bios update help

Hello I recently purchased the msi z97 gaming 5 motherboard. It was working fine it came with bios version 1.0 and I wanted to update it. I downloaded the latest 1.5 bios from msi website copied to usb flash drive and flashed it using mflash. Computer powers on but black screen wont do nothing. I cleared cmos and battery and still nothing so I am pretty sure its bricked. I am going to store to exchange it for another one but I want to be able to safely update the bios without bricking again. I usually dont update bios unless needed but i need at least 1.2 bios to fully support the devils canyon cpu. Can someone please point me in the right direction? I read about the usb flashing tool in forum but also read that bios+me need to be flashed and I don't know if that program is up to date and will flash both files? I really appreciate it if someone helped thanks in advance.

Also does anyone know if it is dangerous to update the bios with a 4690k devils canyon cpu since it is not officially supported until 1.2? Is that why my first bios flash was bricked? I would hate to go and borrow another cpu just to update the bios but if I have to I will. Sorry for all the questions but I need to get my bios updated and I will not update it until I am sure of all these things. Thanks to anyone who answers these questions.

  • Z97 GAMING 7: Windows won't install

I've just built a new machine and am having no luck installing Windows. My basic components:
    Z97 GAMING 7 motherboard
    i7-4790k processor
    32GB Crucial Ballistix RAM
EVGA GeForce GTX 970 graphics card
    LG WH16NS40 optical drive
    Samsung 840 PRO SSD
When I boot using my new retail Windows 8.1 disc, all I get is the small blue Windows startup window on the screen; after 20-30 seconds of listening to the disc spin, some little white lights dance in a circle at the bottom of the screen, then the computer restarts and does the whole thing again. That's it -- no welcome screen, no installation instructions, nothing.
    Here's what I've already tried:
    - I've updated the BIOS to the latest version
    - I've switched the drives to different SATA ports
    - I've configured the SATA modes to AHCI
    - I've played with various other settings in the BIOS
    - I've tried both the 64-bit and the 32-bit versions of Windows 8.1
    - I've tried a prior version of Windows (same result but without the blue window and dancing lights)
    - I've confirmed my optical drive and hard drive work fine; I get the same results even when I use other drives
The BIOS appears to be working perfectly and recognizes all of my components as far as I can tell. The optical drive is obviously reading information from the Windows disc, since I'm at least getting a Windows icon. This is my second build, and I had zero issues with my first one, so I'm reasonably confident I've connected everything properly (though I'm certainly capable of mistakes). I'm now at a loss.
Any suggestions would be most appreciated; I'm happy to answer any other questions about the machine or what I've done so far. Thanks!

    Hi,
I can see you have a BluRay optical drive. Are you able to use standard DVD drive (which doesn't support BluRay) ?
    What is your PSU?
Try without graphics card and use only integrated GPU.
Also see if it would try to install with single RAM stick.
Also you could try this (again):
Disconnect all drives but have your SSD and optical drive connected (if you have more than these 2)
    >>Clear CMOS Guide<<
Go into BIOS, set optical drive as #1, SSD as #2.
Reboot with the installation disc inside the drive
It most likely will ask you if you want to boot from optical drive blah blah then spam couple of different buttons.
    See if boots/tries to install

PC won't boot. MSI Gaming 7 motherboard had a **debug code of 67**.
I ran Malwarebytes this morning, it found some stuff, I had it remove them and rebooted. Haven't been able to get my PC to boot since :(
When I begin booting, nothing happens at all on the monitors, the PC itself has power and it looks like it's on but I only get this error code 67 on the motherboard and that's it.
Really don't want to unseat the CPU for any reason to troubleshoot that. CPU is always a pain in the ass for me to remove and place back into a PC. lol.

    Tried that, didn't work.
Unseated each RAM stick, didn't work.
Removed the CPU, cleaned off the thermal grease, reseated it, replaced grease and heatsink. Didn't work.
Literally unplugged and replugged everything in one by one and none of it fixed the problem. Still receive error code 67.
Have no damn idea what the heck is going on.

  • Z97 Gaming 3 and m.2 storage - which ssd?!

    hi guys,
I'm using the Z97 Gaming 3 motherboard and very happy with it so far.
I'm planning to to update to a m.2 slot storage for my OS (Windows 8.1) soon so I need an advice.
which m.2 products are support by this motherboard?
which m.2 ssd models can you suggest, to work with no issues on the Gaming 3?
thanks in advance and keep the good work going.

that's great, thank you very much for the help. I'll try to stick with this list just to be sure.
I've red some posts that some motherboards have issues booting the OS from the m.2.
I hope it will not be the case.

  • Tips / hints /advice.. Upgrade Z97 Gaming 7, 4790K

    Hi all,
I'm awaiting delivery of my new setup, z97 gaming 7 motherboard, Intel 4790k processor, corsair 16gb XMS3 1600MHz DDR3. Will be using existing ssd, bluray burner, graphics card, chieftec 750w psu, antec case.
Been reading about BIOS issues and CPU compatibility issues, does anyone have any tips, thoughts or advice on what to look out for during the build?
Thanks in advance for any help / advice.
    RM

The only issue you might encounter is if the BIOS installed on the motherboard is v10 instead of v13. The i7 4790k requires v13 in order to work.
I would prepare to have another CPU from a friend or another computer available in order to update the BIOS, if required.

have built a new gaming PC from scratch based around the MSI Z97 gaming 9 motherboard and the MSI NVIDIA GTX 770 graphics card i have installed all the drivers for the mother board and everything seems to be ok i have then used live update to update all the drivers and bios.
i then installed the graphics card and it powers up and the fans start but my pc isn't recognising the fact that is exists helps please

Recheck your WiFi Bluetooth expansion module connection on the board.
Recheck your MB mounting in the case, i.e. errant standoffs. Perhaps test the board outside the case on a non conductive surface to ensure no potential short exists. Then retest with the WiFi plugged in.

  • Z97 Gaming 7 and the Noctua NH-D14

I own a Noctua NH-D14 and just got 2 sticks of Corsair Dominator Platinum memory.
I wanted to get the Z97 Gaming 7 motherboard for an i7 4790 CPU but I'm not sure if the spacing is great enough for the Noctua to clear the memory.  Has anyone tried or know if it'll work?  What if I put the Corsairs in the 2/4 slots, will that allow enough space?
I really don't want to give up the memory but have a feeling its just not going to work out with that cooler - which I definitely want to keep.
    Any insight/suggestions are welcome!

    I had the MSI Z97 Gaming 7.
On the board, it is written that you have to put your two RAM sticks in the 1st and 3rd slots, which can cause issues.
On the manual, it is written that you have to put your two RAM sticks in the 2nd and the 4th slots, which is more compatible.
I tried 2nd and 4th and it worked perfectly with my Dark Rock 3 (1mm free). But I don't know if it was the more efficient
Such a shame the board and manual say different thnings.
