ZAC update freezes

Hi,
I have one user whose ZAC update just stops at the same point every time.
There are no errors being shown on either the client or the server. From
what I could figure out ZAC bootstrap updates files in batches. It may be
that it is opening (and not closing) more files than allowed by operating
system (I think I've seen that one before). But basically the symptom is
that the update just stops at the same point every time from any machine at
the that user's location (they have a pretty good pipe so the bandwidth
should not be a problem). It works fine for all other users.
Cheers,
Ivan

Ivan,
I've spoken with our technical support folks and I asked that you give us
another try. Someone should be able to answer your ZAC questions when you
reconnect with them.
Thanks,
Michael

Some time ago I posted a couple of questions/wishes about ZAC andbasically
the response was that it is not going to get that much support. Well now I
think ZAC is no longer a existing functionality of WebLogic and my opinion
should be put into 'as-is' or 'use at your own risk' category. Since my
recent post about a problem I'm having with ZAC (see ZAC update freezes)was
unanswered (I totally understand that, a newsgroup is not the main support
venue) I went to the Customer Support and gave them a call. First it tookme
about five minutes to convince the rep that ZAC is a feature of WebLogicand
not a third party product since they have NEVER heard of it. Second, ittook
another three minutes to confirm that it is a WebLogic fetaure and when I
asked about when I should expect a callback I was told if I didn't receive
the call within a couple of days to call them again. Now, I filed the case
as a production level problem on top of it.
Conclusions:
1) DO NOT use ZAC as a PRODUCTION level deployment tool. IT IS NOT
SUPPORTED.
2) Lack of well trained, qualified, and timely support will be the causeof
shrinking WLS market share.
Meanwhile I'm going to dig in the archives...
Cheers,
Ivan

  • Updater freezes. Shuffle corrupted. Please help.

Before I get started I'll try to be clear on a few things.
UPDATER VERSION IS IRRELEVANT. I've tried with three different versions.
ITUNES VERSION IS IRRELEVANT. This is unrelated to itunes.
Short story: Program problem disallowed safe shuffle removal. It was corrupted as a result. I can't restore the ipod because the updater freezes up.
Longer story: Because of program I tried to run off my shuffle and my schools computer setup, things got messed up and when I tried to eject it it wouldn't let me. So I removed it manually. The shuffle got corrupted and was unreadable.
Seemed like a minor problem since I could easily restore the Ipod. I knew I had lost my files but that wasn't too bad. However the updaters all freeze when the ipod is plugged in or if they start while it's plugged in.
Now instead of just getting an error message when I try to do anything with my ipod the computer seems to be treating it as though it were an empty cd drive or something.
I doubt I can fix things. If I can't can anyone direct me to a replacement form and tell me if I've somehow voided the warranty?

I fixed it myself. The restorer was freezing up but apprently there is a third party one.

It works great. it may help those of you who can't get the updater to recognize your ipod.

  • HELP ME UPDATER FREEZES OR GIVES ERROR WHEN TRYING TO RESTORE CORRUPT IPOD!

I have a 5th gen 60g ipod. I haven't used it in awhile and decided to get some vids on it. I hook the ipod up and it does not appear in itunes or anywhere. I use a 2005 updater and it tells me it's not mounted. I decide to restore it. I click restore and the updater freezes during the time bar. Because of being disconnected in the middle of the restore, my ipod is corrupted and just have the folder with the question mark. I decide to try to restore again, 5 more times. Freezes 5 more times. I download the new 2006 updater and while using that restore, it gives me the error "Error: An error occured updating or restoring iPod." Then I try it in Disk Mode for both updaters and the same thing happens. And when I try to update the ipod, the updater just force quits and doesn't even give me an error (with the 2006). The 2005 doesn't even allow me to update it as the option is transparent. Now I have no clue with what to do. Please, I layed out everything and I just want a simple quick answer. Thanks.

Try using Disk Utility to format the iPod just as you would a hard drive. Once that is complete, try the latest iPod updater again.

  • Updating Web CS6, Flash update freezes

Updating Web CS6, Flash update freezes, what is the problem?

In FB 4.5,  if you go to the Data Services view, and then right click on the data service (WSDL) you connected to, there is an option there to refresh the WSDL.  It works very well for me.

  • Ipod update freeze, firewire problem, possible fix for many.

    Hello all,
I've been having a problem with my ipod 3rd gen updating in much the same way as many in this forum have throughout a number of topic threads.
    PROBLEM:
During song/playlist/content (not software update or restore) updating function one of two things would happen:
    - update would freeze at some point of the transfer (5, 74, 687 songs in to the update) and I would have to force quite itunes and, not being able to dismount the ipod through recommended procedure, I would physically dismount the ipod and receive a scolding for improper dismounting of device.
    - system would crash at some point of the transfer yielding the shaded screen and a prompt to restart the computer by depressing the front panel button for two seconds.
In each of the above cases, no matter how many songs that itunes thought it had transferred, I would only have about a dozen songs on the ipod itself, perhaps indicating a bottleneck on the G4 end of the transfer.
DEADENDS FOR ME THAT MAY STILL SOLVE PROBLEM FOR SOME:
    - swaping out cables
    - ipod software restore or restore to earlier version
    SOLUTION:
After contacting Apple support, I was led to the opinion that the problem was with the firewire port itself. This was confirmed by attaching my ipod with my cable to a roomates G5 resulting in a faultless transfer of his song library. I was ready to go out and purchase a new firewire PCI card but decided to research firewire problems in the G4 folder of Discussions. This is where I found the fix to my problem (see links at bottom of document). It would seem that Mac ports, both firewire and USB, have a tendency to bog down after awhile and need to be reset. This can be a addressed by one of three possible solutions. The first and easiest was the solution that worked for me (for other solutions please follow links at bottom of page):
    - powered down and disconnected all firewire and USB cables from the G4
    - disconnected power cable from G4 (for laptops I would guess that the battery would need to be removed, not sure if that causes any other problems though, please research)and let sit for about 30 minutes.
    - reconnected all cables and restarted computer. Ports should be reset at that point
    - I took the added measure to restart my computer once with nothing attached to USB and firewire ports and then powering down with front panel button before connecting cables and proceding with final restart.
    RESULT:
Faultless transfer of 37.6 gigs of content in less that 45 minutes.

    Good Luck
    GKE

    This worked perfectly for me!!!
    SOMEBODY PLEASE TAG THIS POST!!!
i have had the problem that everyone has posted about (i.e. - updated iTunes/iPod software and had the update/freeze problem, tried all solutions, to no avail, and was pretty much screwed.)
JUST DO EXACTLY WHAT HE SAYS TO DO (powermac g5, by the way):
    1) power down the computer
    2) unplug EVERYTHING (usb, firewire, power, monitor, etc.)
    3) leave unplugged for 30 minutes
    4) plug power back in
    5) power up from main power button
    6) wait for computer to start back up, then shut down from power button
    7) plug everything back in and power up
    8) restart once more for good measure
    9) update your ipod
    10) take a sigh of relief!
you are seriously a godsend...only one thing...I BOUGHT A NEW ONE ALREADY!!! i literally bought it the day that you posted this solution. After a month and a half of trying to fix this problem, i finally gave up and bought a 20GB iPod Photo with applecare...cost me about $380.
no matter, i think i'm gonna sell my "older" ipod to my mom or dad. they'll use it doing whatever they do. plus, that way, if there's any problem, i can fix it for them without feeling bad about screwing over some stranger.
thanks again, this solution worked perfectly.

  • PC: i-tunes won't launch, update and restore greyed out - updater freezes

Hi - Please excuse the system info below - that refers to my laptop but our sons shuffle ismarried to our PC.
I found my son's shuffle sitting on the hall dresser today and he informed me that it has not been working for some time. He's 8 years old but he's only had the shuffle since Christmas - I'm inclined to think he really hasn't been able to use it much.
First signs of a problem were flashing green and orange lights - no songs I guess. Battery shows steady green.
Downloaded and installed latest i-tunes update and i-pod updater. When the i-pod is connected to our PC (running XP) the front status light and the back battery lights both blink orange. Unfortunately, we do not have any 2.0 usb connections on the Dell but we've been able to successfully connect our other son's shuffle to the back port.
When the shuffle is connected i-tunes will not launch. If I launch i-tunes and then connect the shuffle, i-tunes does not recognize the i-pod.
With the updater lauched and then connecting the i-pod the updater freezes at 'initializing' and both update and restore buttons are greyed out.
I have reset the i-pod many times and browsed the support discussions and articles - it seems I may need to remove the updater but I have not found instructions for the process appropriate to a PC.
Any help would be greatly appreciated - even if its just to say that we should bring it in for service. UGH - but where is the darned receipt?

Hey mmlise - glad to hear I'm not alone on this...
By the way - I uninstalled and reinstalled both i-tunes and i-pod updater as per Apple instructions for PC. At least this time the updater informed me as to what it updates but it is not even initializing now - it just keeps telling me to "plug in an i-pod to update it".
i-tunes still will not launch until I remove the shuffle from the usb.
I know that the usb is working (tried several other ports anyway) since windows pops up with a balloon to say that the device could perform faster on a 2.0 usb...
I've been out of the loop for awhile now on the boards - is this some sort of update bug?
    Please help...

  • Update freezes when installing safari 4.02

    The update freezes ...
    What should I do????
I have already done permission repair before I
update. Don't tell me to reinstall. My install disc
    doesn't mount anymore. Thanks Apple.
    Unstable Safari 4.0
Now there's an update but it crashes
    have useless install disc
Now I am using my PC to post in here.
    < Edited by Host >

As you seem to have mangled your system, try this (I presume you did the required restart?):
    1. Go to Home/Library/Safari/ folder and remove the following two files:
    • history.plist
    • lastsession.plist
(Safari may not load properly If these two files are corrupted.)
    2. Go to Home/Library/Caches/Metadata/Safari/ and remove the contents of that folder.
(These are just webhistory files and are not required for Safari to run. However, similar to preference files, problems can arise if they have become corrupt.)
    3. Locate the cookies.plist file that's located in the Home/Library/Cookies/ folder and remove it.
(Again, faults in stored cookies may interfere with Safari's launch.)
    4. Check whether any of your third-party internet plug-ins may be interfering with the launch of Safari by carefully moving them to the desktop (do NOT delete them at this stage). You can find these in two places:
Home/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ folder, and Global plug-ins are located in the Macintosh HD/Library/Internet Plug-ins/ folder.
Restart Safari and place them back in the correct folders, one at a time, closing and re-opening Safari each time. If you discover that one of them was causing the problem with launching Safari, trash it and download and install a fresh copy.

  • Application Update Freezing & Multiple Data Mails

Hi, I'm new to forums so please excuse any beginner's errors.
I have a Blackberry 8310 and the other day when synchronising using the Desktop Manager the following message came up
"Checking for device application updates.  Please wait...."
But the desktop just froze.  After repeated re-tries I uninstalled Desktop Manager, downloaded version 4.6 and installed that.  Unfortunately when going through the set-up I checked the wrong server box (I should have checked the one at the bottom re Internet server) and ever since then I have been flooded by hundreds of Data mails, plus the Application Update is still freezing.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled a couple of times more (making sure to check the right server box) but still no luck.  So, I have two problems
    1)  Why does the Application Update freeze the Desktop Manager and
    2)  How do I stop the myriad mails?  I've seen an answer to this about uninstalling and using the BIS option but I didn't understand what that means.
    Thanks!

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    hello,
    about 2) :
when you own a Blackberry, it has two ways of connection to Blackberry technologies : BES and BIS. BES is for corporate Blackberry : your company has Blackberry servers in the company. BIS is for regular users.
When you install of configure the Desktop Manager, at some point it asks you whether you are under Enterprise Solutions or Internet Service. You should select Internet Service (aka BIS).
To do so, you don't have to uninstall the Desktop manager. In windows, go to paramers >> configuration panel >> add/remove application.
Select the Blackberry Desktop Manager and modify it. There should be the option to choose beween BES and BIS again.

  • Post mavericks update freezing problem

I am apparently another who has had their awesome Macbook pro 5.5 mid 2009 corrupted by an update to Mavericks, or something. It is beyond my skill set to figure it out. Can anyone help? Please!
Specifics found below in the Etrecheck output.
    History:
    Running OSX 10.5 happily.
Decided to upgrade to be more secure so upgraded memory (which passed memtest 5 times through) from 2 - 8 gigs.
Purchased the 10.6 upgrade Disc and then did online update to Mavericks.
Problem after upgrade...Especially but not entirely when under battery power (Battery at less than 500 cycles and working well) I get complete freezing aside from blue vertical lines on part of the screen. Must do a hard shutdown after this.
    Attempted solutions:
Using Carbon Copy Cloner (CCC)- reinstalled older backup of drive after an erase. I was shocked that the problem was still there as this sent me back to OSX 10.6.
Tested memory with memtest and all was good for more than 5 cycles.
Set uo an external drive with 10.6 and then mavericks and ran this for about a week with no problems. I then transfered this back to the onboard drive after erasing it with CCC and the problems returned.
I thought it was only with battery power but this proved not to be the case, although it does freeze much less often when plugged in.
I have tried the PRAM resets etc to no avail.
Any help would be much aporeciated as would some assurance that perhaps a newer version of OSX might work in the future.
Please note. This is my partnes's computer and she is less than impressed with my "upgrade".
Cheers and have a great day.

Your report looks clean to me, sorry it doesn't indicate any obvious signs of old software that could be breaking the OS.
The only thing that would concern me is the lack of free space on the boot disk 23GB is close to the minimum. Ideally I'd like a little more maybe 30-40GB. Spinning disks perform slower as they become more full so that may not help performance, however it doesn't explain the freezing/ lines on screen.
Your tests seem to indicate something wrong with the internal disk (it worked OK for a week on external, but the same OS dies on the internal?). Was the restored OS 10.6 or 10.9?
Are any of these systems 'clean installs'? If not I'd consider using the Mavericks installer to 'reinstall' 10.9.3 over the top of the current OS. By default it only overwrites the OS files so the use data & apps should remain in place (a backup is still needed before you do this). Another option is to reinstall just a clean OS to see if the internal disk can work at all.
You can also start combing the logs for info (or hope Linc Davis appears here with some commands to parse the logs).
Start testing the disk (check the SMART status in Disk Utility).
Apple Hardware Test https://support.apple.com/kb/HT1509 (it may not tell you much)
Repair the disk via Recovery mode.
Since you suspect it is related to the battery…

  • Snowleopard 10.6.8 update freeze at start up

I downloaded 10.6.8 on my imac and it will not boot. It freezes and it will not start up from cd. I've unplug all devices and it is completely locked out. Help!

@jamesofcheney: Do you have Hands Off! installed on your machine? This was the problem on my side. I had Hands Off! 1.2.4 and I fixed my problem by upgrading to 1.3.1. I had the chance to have an old copy of my hard drive though and I could boot my machine from that drive. Here is a trace of what happened on my side:
After upgrading to OS X 10.6.8 through Software Update, my Macbook Pro froze while rebooting. The little spinning wheel under the Apple logo at boot time stopped spinning and nothing was happening anymore.
    I then booted from an external drive and I downloaded the update again from here: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1400 and re-installed it;
At this point, things got worse. I got a kernal panic when my machine rebooted. There was something about com.metakine.handsoff.driver in the dump on the screen. So this gave me a hint on what the culprit could be.
    I was fortunate enough to be able to boot in Safe Mode (by holding down the Shift key while booting);
After booting in Safe Mode, I started Hands Off! which warned me that there was a new version, and I installed it.
    I was then able to reboot normally (not in sae mode) without kernel panic;
I started Hands Off! and completed the installation (There is an extra installation step that occurs when starting a new version for the first time).
    Now, things seem to be working fine, and I am crossing my fingers that I won't discover any other problem due to the 10.6.8 upgrade;
@A Brody: My point in my previous post was to let jamesofcheney know that he was not the only one with this problem, and that it was therefore most probably not a hardware problem.

  • Magic Trackpad Update Freezes my Macbook Pro

I have a 2007 MacBook Pro and purchased a Magic Trackpad for it yesterday. It worked (minus scrolling, etc) without doing the 1.0 update. I ran the Update Programs function and it suggested the update - which I ran. Now my MacBook freezes with a spinning wheel at the Apple icon. I've tried all the standard way to fix it - boot with shift, command-v, command-s and nothing helps. Any ideas of how to manually (via Unix console) delete the last update so I can have my MacBook back? Thanks

Then again even with fully recharged batteries it is sometimes not as precise as the built in trackpad on the MacBook.

Same on iPad2. If you skip it you can use the device, BUT you cannot go into the iCloud setting.   It ends up freezing the settings panel.

If you don't want to wade through all the responses, I'm copying here an extract of the answer I gave in that thread:
For those people like me who don't have firmware 1.0, I've modified the procedure a bit to suit our purpose. Here's what needs to be done for downgrading to firmware 1.0 without losing any data for new iPods that only come with firmware 1.1 Installation CD:
-Connect your iPod to your computer, ensures its updated via iTunes, then disconnect it from PC and exit iTunes
    - Download iPodSetup 2005-11-17 here:
    http://appldnld.m7z.net/content.info.apple.com/iPod/ww/win/061-2225.20051128.PDW nw/iPodSetup.exe
    - Download iPodWizard here:
    http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=153441
(download the release, top link of the two)
