Zagg invisible shield fix antenna issue?

Does the Zagg invisible shield actually fix the iPhone 4 antenna issue?

My issue is the same with or without any bumper or cover... I believe and have had it somewhat confirmed with at&t that they are having issues with the towers in my area.. and have since March.. If they are upgrading everything to 4G it makes sense to me that until it is all transitioned over and all the bugs are worked out it would give people a less then perfect signal. I have always had full 5 bars and never any complaints and have been with this company since 1993 and have seen them thru approximately 4 or 5 merges and never had anything bad to say until around March. I still was using my 3GS before the ios4 upgrade back then. So I am not convinced it is the new iphone4 antenna problem that everyone thinks it is... I have the same signal strength on my iphone 4 whether I have a cover on or not and if I hold it all different ways the signal does not change to any better or worse.. I am constantly at 1 or 2 bars.. 3 or 4 maybe once a week for a minute or two and get excited to see them. That is sad isn't it??? lol

How do I fix antenna/ reception issue on iPhone 4

To be honest i don't normally have a problem with my signal, and i'm on O2. If i do gain a problem, a useful tip is to hold the phone with two fingers along the side, place the phone on an item e.g. table, carpet etc.. hope this helps, bumper cases personally make the phone look unattractive and ruin the look of the iPhone.

I lose signal, when placing the phone in my pocket. I have a silicone case on it now. I'm waiting for my bumper, if that doesn't keep it from dropping signal while in my poocket, it's going back.

I predict the bumper will have no effect on the phone in your pocket, especially since you already have a case on it. The only thing the bumper will fix is when you have the palm of your hand directly on the left side of the phone bridging the gap between the antennas. It improves things in that scenario quite effectively. Height above ground, in the clear, with no large absorbent masses in the way, makes the most improvement. If the signal is weak, the best thing you can do is get the phone higher, in the clear, and move near a window if inside. Standard cell phone protocol.
But I have to say (with all the OPs), the iPhone 4 is phenomenal in its ability to stay on the air in weak signal conditions. Vastly better than earlier models. The specific antenna issue is a bit embarrassing for Apple, but certainly not a deal killer. No phone from any manufacturer is going to perform optimally in a pocket.
I am surprised no one is complaining about how slippery the phone is. It became obvious to me, in the first few minutes of use, something had to be added to "get a grip" on the phone, or it was not going to survive long around me. It slid off everything that was not perfectly flat. My knee, my lap in the car, you name it. It is the most difficult phone to hang on to that I have ever had.
The bumper also cures that problem. Not 100% in all conditions (you still can drop it) but it improves the odds enormously. Is it also Apple's fault the phone is slippery? Of course. But the fix is the same.

  • The Zagg Invisible Shield~Recommended or Not?

Just curious how many people use the invisible shield and if you would recommend it or not for the Iphone 4? I have never used one on my 3G. Only used silicone cases for protection. Just wondering if others liked it an if it's hard to install having to use the spray etc? I fear getting this liquid solution in the speaker etc. Thanks in advance!

I also recommend it for the back only, the texture of the material takes away from the whole touch screen experience. ZAGG makes some awesome skins for the back of the iPhone and you can even load your own pic up to their website and create your own custom skin. I just got my skin last week and the picture quality is awesome! If you sign up for Zagg's iPad giveaway you'll also get a 50% off coupon you can use to get the skin for around $10 instead of over $20.

  • For all the folks who pre-order the ZAGG invisible shield for the iPhone 3G

My shield did not fit properly, so I emailed ZAGG. Here is what I got back:
"When we created the design for the Apple iPhone 3G we had very limited access to the actual device. We were able to complete a design for it and get this shipped for our customers so they would have protection for their Apple iPhone 3G as soon as possible. After having more time with the Apple iPhone 3G we have improved our design by making a slight change. This change makes the installation process easier and provides more protection, including covering both bevels fully.
If you would like a replacement invisibleSHIELD for your Apple iPhone 3G for the new design, we would be happy to send you a free warranty replacement.
Per the Lifetime Replacement Guarantee, your replacement invisibleSHIELD is free! The minimal reshipping and handling charge is $3.95 for an estimated 1 - 2 week delivery service for domestic and European orders (three weeks internationally) and includes free application solution and squeegee. If you would like to purchase a faster shipping method, one of our associates would be happy to provide further details.
For the quickest possible service, please call us at 801-263-0699 or toll free at 888-940-9663 and we can take your credit card information over the phone. Also, if you do not have a PayPal account and are not easily reached via phone, we can email you a money request where you would be able to enter in your credit card information to send us a payment.
After receiving your replacement, we will request that you send your original invisibleSHIELD back to us with your order # or registration number. This will ensure that your lifetime replacement guarantee remains valid"
This is really bad customer service. Because they had to guess on the iPhone 3G measurements, I need to pay out of pocket to get a replacement (shipping cost)??

EVERYONE... I pre-ordered also and got the original one on but it didn't look great so I called and got the new redesigned one sent to me.
IT IS TERRIBLE. The redesigned one is worse than the first one. The front screen wraps around the edges of the phone. If you haven't looked there is a seam that runs around the front glass piece. This causes major air bubbles and making it impossible to put the redesigned on on.
Also the back has its problems too.
    Best solutions.
    1. return it all and get your money back.
    2. get another one reshipped but make sure it is the original.
I got the original one shipped to me again and got it on correctly but after a few days it keeps fraying up. Whats next......

Is anyone using this, or plan on using this, for their new iphone?  How hard is this to put on?

I have used this for my Droid X, Droid, and Fascinate. However, I would not go with it. It has an orange peel effect. I would check out ghost armor, that is a good bet. Like it a lot, doesn't scratch or leave many fingerprints, has a lifetime warranty, and makes it look like there is nothing on your phone. No orange peel effect like zagg. And, it's only about $15 bucks or so.
The site is ghostarmor.com I think. I got mine at a mall kiosk.

  • Does Zagg Invisible Shield help against glare?

Wondering if it's a good anti-glare "shield." Thanks!

The Zagg film has a slight "orange peel" finish that does break up the reflections and more importantly, it really helps reduce finger print smudges. I have used their products on my iPhone and MacBook Pro cases but never on the display. I applied it last night to my iPad and really spent a lot of time smoothing out the film to clear out the air bubbles. This morning after drying, it was crystal clear and I'm very pleased with the appearance.
    So bottom line:
    1) Install carefully to get in the correct position and avoid bubbles
    2) Expect some nominal reduction in glare and reflections
    3) Expect a tremendous reduction in finger print smudges!

  • Invisible Shield

Anyone have the Zagg invisible shield for the 3G Iphone

I've been using the full-body InvisibleShield for over a year.
The front has minor, almost unseen, scratches, cause unknown; the back has an obvious scratch from dropping it. It hit a box while falling. I will claim the lifetime warranty later.
No issues whatsoever with peeling. I applied it carefully and allowed it to set properly.
The back cover does provide better gripping. The original iphone was very slippery otherwise.
I am certain that the shield reduces touch sensitivity very slightly. However, there is greater sensitivity reduction since I began using a stylus three weeks ago. Nonetheless, this does not deter me from having screen protection. I can only imagine how many scratches I may have without the shield.
No regrets buying InvisibleShield despite my scratches versus their scratch-proof claim. I rate the product as very good. Note: if anyone ever needs to open the 1st gen phone's back cover, you must slice the shield. This is because there is a top and bottom (battery) cover. Fortunately, I have not done this though, but I know some people want a resale 1st gen phone, not 3G.
BTW, I use InvisibleShield on my digital camera screen and handheld GPS/PDA also. No scratches, no peeling. No sensitivity issues with my GPS and stylus. On the camera, slight brightness challenge. The shield acts like a glare filter.
    Hope this helps your decision.

  • How to avoid water damage when installing invisible shield

Just wondering what you have to do to avoid water damage when installing Zagg invisible shield? What precautions should I take so that I do not damage the iPhone when installing Zagg Invisible shield?
Thanks and I look forward to your replies.
    ...B

    Hi BGmail,
I would stay away from invisible shield by zagg or similar products. I tried it, waste of £15, could have got myself a dock stand for my phone for that ****!! The problem with IS(invisible shield) is that the screen protector has a rubber feel which makes it annoying when swiping your finger on it + it's not scratch proof at all!! Mine scratched 2 days after the installation so badly that I had to remove it. The back it's hard to apply, does not cover everything you'd like to, also a dust trap that could get between tha film and the phone causing it to scratch, some people reporting the film going yellow after a while(on white iPhones).
What I think of IS: A poor american product heavily/aggressive advertised!! Mine is off, using a hard clear plastic shell and a good screen protector, might look bulky but it's safe, only using the shell while at work, the iPhone is pretty tough, don't forget.
    Your choice... Good luck !!

  • Is anyone having touch response issues with Invisible Shield Extreme?

I received the iPhone 5 today and had Best Buy put on the Invisible Shield Extreme and now the touch response stinks.  I guess it certainly is a credit to the shield but I'd like to be able to type and open apps.  Is anyone else having this problem, or is this something that will resolve itself as the glue dries fully.

Yea man got picked up my Invisible Shield Extreme today at best buy and the gentlman there did the install and now the reasponsiveness is crap. I'm hoping its cleared up by tomarrow if not I'm going back to best buy.

  • Firefox opens automatically with two tabs, one of which will never close and can't be used, how can I fix this issue?

I have a Macbook Pro running 10.6.8 and Firefox 5.0.1
I have had this issue for a while and was hoping that the newest release would solve my problem, it didn't. I looked online for solutions, none of which fixed the issue
*Some pointed the finger at the extension Invisible Hand, which I never had.
*Some suggested putting Firefox into safe mode, this solves the problem, but since it stops me from installing any extensions this is not a workable solution.
*It was advised that I create a new profile, which I tried, this did absolutely nothing, the blank page appeared again after a short period of time and still can't be closed or clicked on, and this was before I added any add-ons. Which leads me to believe that the issue lies with Firefox.
Though on a side note when I quit Firefox, with only my current tab and the "tab that can't be closed" still open, Firefox notices that there are two tabs open and warns me that I am going to be closing both. The only work around I have found is to set the "tab that can't be closed" as an app tab for the current session, but when I open Firefox the next time, the app tab which was the "tab that can't be closed" can now be closed and a new "tab that can't be closed" appears as if it were a new blank tab, just like every other time I open Firefox.

I started in safe Mode. I have the default theme. Starting in safe mode still gave me the same problem. I went back to the normal Firefox and still had the same problem. Yesterday I restarted my computer for 11 Windows updates. I am not going to spend all day starting and restarting my computer and removing my History and whatever else. Firefox should have a direct contact to it's users, to assist them instead of having their users work for them as forum responders and trouble shooters. This has already taken up way too much of my time.
I will say in normal Firefox the additional NEW TAB had no URL in it, but it did have the 12 icons on the page. In Safe Mode it had a URL that began with Chrome and it had a blank page, it didn't have the 12 icons as in normal mode. I don't have anything Chrome on my computer.

  • Trying to sum the antenna issue up

Is there an attenuation issue: Yes
    Is it hardware: Yes
Do other phones do it: Yes
Why does it seem worse on the iPhone 4: Because they put the weak spot where you naturally grip the phone.
Does covering up the weak spot fix the issue: Yes
When does the issue manifest itself: When the signal is weak
Does covering up the weak spot solve the problem: Yes
How good is the antenna when the weak spot is covered: As good as or better than almost any other phone on the market
How about the rest of its functionality: Best on the market. Just ask Consumer Reports.
I'm keeping mine for the following reasons:
Absent the antenna problem, it is simply a great device
I always cover my phones. In the case of the iPhone, the bumper improves the grip and makes it less likely to slip out of your hand anyway.
With the bumper, I get service in places that I've never had service before. So for me, the antenna is a net plus.
If you are outraged about having to put a free case on the phone, a position I understand, don't get one. Android based devices are great phones too. Life is too short to vent your rage when there are good solutions to the problem.

  • My take on the iPhone antenna issue

I'll start off by saying I own a 3GS, don't own a 4, have seen one a friend has and know a few friends that have them.
I've had other products (like a knife) that have an optional guard. You can leave it off and "be careful" or you can put it on and have the item be somewhat less attractive. This is my personal take on Apple's reasoning.
You definitely would not want to increase the size of the iPhone by building in a case, because a third part might make a case that, say, was also a checkbook case. So it makes sense for the iPhone to be bare bones, and you have the option of adding a case if you want one.
The mistake, as I see it, was in Apple not including a bumper with the iPhone, +and having the bumper already be on the iPhone when you took it out of the box.+
Had they done this, IMO there would have been no complaints at all.
    Message was edited by: NewYorkYogi

I agree the bumpers should have been free and included.
The antenna issue though is very subjective. Steve is right. I have seen every phone i have owned drop bar level depending on how i hold it. This one is more pronounced because we can touch the antenna, usually a radio no no. The idea of the external antenna integrated with the case is quite cool. I use my iP4 in a very fringe area and haven't had it drop a call due to lost signal. In fact it is better than my 3G i replaced. It is better with the bumper. So what happened? Apple took a risk and designed something new. Then Steve hyped it up into the stratosphere. Raised expectation of perfection. It isn't perfect and all the nay sayers had something quite real to pick on. Now here we are.
This phone is an amazing device. Very fast an powerful and the camera is really good. It has a few color issues but nothing that can't be fixed in any photo editor. The result is great photos capture with a cell phone. The video is great as is the recorded sound. Quite usable.
So it has a few quirks, well worth all the positives in my opinion.

  • Does a shop in the UK fit invisible shields?

I just got the zagg full body shield and dont wanna fit it myself when the iphoen comes is there a shop that does it for a small fee? in the UK

I would not worry about the water damage. Even too much spray won't hurt it. They have included the squeegee so that you get no air-bubbles. Here is some advice, have a cleaning cloth next to you, as you gently use the squeegee to remove the air bubbless and some extra water, run it along the side and as some water comes out quickly use the cleaning cloth do wipe out the water. As you get near the home button as you squeeze out, put the cloth over the home button so that as you squeeze out the water will to to the cloth. Same for the ear speaker.
Just don't spray the solution onto the device itself.
I have used bodyguardz for my device before (same type as invisible shield), and I have never damaged my device at all.
