Zapf dingbat to check box

I've exported from InDesign CS4 to Acrobat Pro 9 a file that's more or less a catalog, where you would check beside the item you want.
In ID CS4, I used the "q" in zapf dingbats to get the empty-box-with-shadow character, hoping the form field recognition function in Acrobat would pick it up as a checkbox. But nooooooo.
As there's probably 300 of those characters, I'm not interested in drawing a checkbox in Acrobat.
What can I do?

can't you while Forms menu select Check box the click on it or them  a choose properties and have it show the outlines?
If you hold down the Command key you can select individual items but they will stay selected (as long as as you hold command key down -- Mac only)
Once you have all saved then double click menu should pop up (or right click) choose Properties. should be able to show outlines of the boxes.

  • How do I create a check-box matrix question using Acrobat XI Pro?

I would like to insert a question that is a 10 x 10 matrix that allows respondents to select multiple boxes in each row.  For example, the "add item > rating scale" feature formats a matrix the way I would like, although it only seems to allow for radio buttons.  With this feature, respondents can only select one item per row.  Is there any way to use this feature with check-boxes rather than radio buttons?  Or a different feature to create a matrix that allows for multiple selections per row?
    Thanks so much,
    Andy

I created a 30 page Form in Microsoft Word with 20 to 30 check boxes on each page using the Zapf Dingbats Font.
When I used Acrobat XI Pro to automatically convert the form it fails to create usable check boxes.
It worked properly about 3 times on test pages but it will not do it again.
Manually inserting check boxes one by one on 30 pages is mind numbing to say the least.
Why doesn't the software work properly anymore?

  • Acrobat 9-forms-Radio buttons print different than check boxes

I am using Acrobat Pro 9 to create forms.
I've used both radio buttons and check boxes (that are circles).
Forms were designed in InDesign with Zapf Dingbats as the open circles to be filled in.
I used radio buttons when the user had to pick one over the other.
I used check boxes when there were multiple choices or I wanted the user to be able to uncheck a box. (I used the circle style so they would look like radio buttons).
The radio buttons are printing differently than the check boxes. It looks almost like there is an overlay on top of the actual open circle created by Zapf Dingbats.
I checked the "appearance" window and there is no border or fill color on the radio buttons (same for the check boxes).
Under the <general> tab, <common properties> is visible. I'm assuming it should be in order for the radio button to appear on the form.
I would appreciate any input as to how to fix this.
    Thansk!
    Maureen

That's just the way radio buttons are, and one reason I rarely use them in preference to check boxes. If Adobe wanted to, they could allow you to use any appearance you want for both the selected an unselected state of a check box or radio button, but they've actually further restricted your options over the years.

  • Inserting a Check Box

I have CS2. This should be an easy thing, but I can't figure out how to do it. I have made a table, and I want to type text and put a check box next to it, and I don't see how to do that. Please help. Thanks.

There are many ways to create a check box (filled or empty).
Fonts to look for include Zapf Dingbats and Wingdings. There are others, but these two are common enough.
Use the Glyphs Pallete to add the dingbats/wingdings. Use the Bullets and Numbering to automate adding them. You can create a new column in the table to hold the check boxes, or you can edit your paragraph style to make the text have a hanging indent for the check box glyph.
Using the paragraph style with a defined bullet is, IMO, the best option for "automating" placement of a check box. Go to the Bullet and Numbering section and change the list type to bullet, click the Add. button, define the font and select the desired glyph. Don't forget to set the indents.

  • Zapf Dingbats fonts

  • Creating a fillable PDF form, check box entries do not print

    Hello.
I am creating a PDF in Acrobat Pro for Adobe Reader users to enter information, with an option to print after the form is completed. I've added check box fields for users to indicate various options. However, when checked, these fields do not print.
In the properties dialog, the field is visible - so theoretically it should print. All other form fields added to the document print, except for check boxes.
Could this be a font issue? I notice that Adobe Pi font is used for check boxes, however, Zapf Dingbats is being substituted (I can see this in the Document Properties/Fonts dialog).
    Thanks for your help.

Thank you so much for the quick response. This will be a huge help! I hate to be a bother, but can you tell me the steps to create the script or give me a reference/resouce to use? I have used adobe products quite a bit, but this is my first time creating a PDF Fillable Form that will be distributed for use by several people so I am a little lost.
Also, I seem to be running into one more problem that I am hoping you can help me figure out. On the form there is a question for the recipient  to answer by checking one of two boxes, yes or no. Depending on the answer an action is initiated. This feature works perfectly, however the issue is that when the recipient choses "yes" he/she is directed to fill out four additional fields that I currently have set as "required", but when the recipient choses "No" the four additional fields are hidden yet still required. This becomes an issue when the recipient has completed the form and tries to submit the form. An error message pops up notifying the user there are required fields that are empty and must be completed before submission.
My thought is (in a perfect world) one of these two options would be ideal:
    1. When the "No" option is chosen the four additional fields are changed from required to not required, or
    2. When the "No" option is chose the four additional required fields are autopopulated with NA.
Either remedy would work just fine, however I am open to suggestions... Again thank you so much for your help with my previous question and thank you in advance for any information/help/advice you can provide in regards to my second question.

  • How to automate the adding of check-box along with each numbered item in Framemaker file ?

I tried using the wingdings font as check-box. But I don't want to use it manually every time. I want to have it as a style part of my procedure style (numbering style).   I need the check-box along with each numbered item. Whenever I apply my numbering style in FM, I should get something like:
    " <checkbox> 1. <text> "

Use "N:\u2751\ <n+>.\ " for the autonumber format.
    "N" Use counter N
"\u2751" One of many checkboxes available in Unicode
    "<n+>" increment the counter
    "." ordinary period
    "\ " non-breaking space
This assumes that you are on FM8 or later, and your Unicode font has that glyph code point populated (Arial Unicode MS does if your font doesn't).
Don't use WingDings (or Zaph Dingbats) anymore. Using codepage overlays has any number of issues, and these two sets of legacy codepage dingbats don't even match each other.

  • Indesign not recognising zapf dingbat in character styles

Hello, I wonder if you can help me. I'm formatting a document and i want to put in some bullet points(there are a lot of them!). I've been trying to create a style for the bullet points in character styles. I've formatted them as a zapf dingbat and created the style. When I go to apply the style it just highlights them in pink so it appears that the font doesn't exist. Would be great if someone knew how i could get round this. Thanks.

I suspect you are using the OpenType version: Zapf Dingbats Std
When the font transitioned to the OpenType format, the glyphs that once were assigned to standard characters, "r" for instance, were moved to a different location within the font. As I recall, there were 256 possible characters using the older PostScript format, whereas the OpenType (or the Windows TrueType flavor of OpenType) has a character limit around 65,000. So, the glyphs for Zapf Dingbats were moved so that they do not conflict with the standard alpha numeric glyphs.  That is my understanding, at least.
What this means for you is that you cannot simply type in a letter on the keyboard in order to get your glyph. Instead, you see the highlighted box which indicates a missing glyph.
One way to get around this is to use the Glyphs panel in order to add your glyphs.
Another is to find an older Postscript version of the font (if you are on a Mac).
screenshot: The right column has the two character styles applied. To use the glyph panel, set your cursor in the text where you want the glyph added, then double click on the desired glyph in the Glyphs panel.

  • CS6 problems with using Zapf Dingbats font

The same font file works perfectly in QXpress (9.5.3) but not in Illustrator (16.0.0) and even less signs show in InDesign (8.0).
I work in Mac OS 10.6.8.
My old ITC Zapf Dingbats was a PS Type 1 font from the last century, version 001.001. (I have not used Dingbats in InDesign yet. I dug up QuarkXPress again today to check and all dingbats work fine there while) InDesign only displays half of them. Then I bought an OTF (Version 2.066;PS 005.000;hotconv 1.0.67;makeotf.lib2.5.33168) of this font today and installed it – with worse results: next to none display in ID.
(I test with a font size of 18 pt.)
I can reach all dingbats via the Glyphs command though, but that's not the idea, is it? They should be under the keys for quick access!
Might have something to do with InDesign's font substitution settings but I don't know where to access them.
(There was a similar question – https://forums.adobe.com/message/1280829#1280829 – but that was over six years ago. I hope there is a smarter solution by now…)
    Fred

I never even knew there was a Dingbat fix, as I never had a problem with the font and Frame before.
In Frame 8 all the characters disappeared. When I print to a pdf, I get an error message thusly:
    %%[ ProductName: Distiller ]%%
%%[ Error: ZapfDingbats not found. Font cannot be embedded. ]%%
%%[ Error: invalidfont; OffendingCommand: findfont ]%%
    Stack:
    /Font
    (ZapfDingbats)
    false
    /2
    0
    /F0
    false
    /ZapfDingbats
I get no such error message with Frame 7.
Now, I took my elderly Zapf Dingbats font and ran it through Fontographer--I didn't change a thing, I just generated a new Type 1 font. Frame 8 was happy with that one, but Frame 7 displayed some other font instead. I have no idea what the font is, it kinda looks like Arial.
    Scratching head...

  • ITC Zapf Dingbat font install issues?

We have CS6 running on Windows 7 Pro 64-bit.  We purchased  ITC Zapf Dingbats Std from Adobe and installed them on the PC.  It shows them in listed as installed and if you try to reinstall them, then it prompts and says they are already there.  Our issue revolves around using them, when you use them in a current or new document it only shows a box with an X in it and not the font.  What is the fix for this issue?  As a side note, we also had purchased several Helvetica fonts and installed them without issue and they work without any issue.

Are you typing in text from your keyboard? Try inserting a character through the Glyphs panel.
The old way of adding dingbats and other symbols to a font was to substitute regular characters with them, so to get a fleuron, you'd type something like a "D" and rely on the font encoding to get the "right" character. With modern fonts (and modern versions of classic fonts), that practice has been deemed obsolete and not interchangeable. To insert a dingbat, you'd need to type the actual character on your keyboard (and you are unlikely to have a "five point white star" key), or insert the appropriate code otherwise, such as through the Glyphs panel.
The Adobe Font store does report the character encoding for Zapf Dingbats as "Symbol/Pi": http://store1.adobe.com/type/browser/info/charsets.html#symbolpi

  • How to select One Check Box at a time

    Dear All
I have 10 records in details blok and also I have 10 check boxes .
I want user can only check one check box at a time .
For example If first record I have checked and i am trying to check the last record then the first record UNCHECKED and the last record will checked .
Like how redio buttons work ..
How can i do that ..?
I have done like this :-
    1st I have declare a global variable in PRE_FORM :GLOBAL.CNT := 'N';
    Then
    WHEN-CHECKBOX-CHANGED trigger
    IF CHECKBOX_CHECKED(EMP.CHK') THEN
        IF :GLOBAL.CNT != N THEN

    LuKKa,
An easier method would be to use a Calculated Field to summarize the value of your CHECKBOX Item. For example, add a non-table item (call it SUM_CHECKED) to your detail block and do not assign it to canvas - so it will not be displayed. Then set the following properties of the SIM_CHECKED item:
    Database Item = No
    Calculation Mode = Summary
    Summary Function = Sum
    Summarized Block = <YOUR DETAIL BLOCK>
    Summarized Item = <YOUR CHECKBOX ITEM>
Next, you will need to change your Detail Block property Query All Records to YES (this is required for the Calulated Item).
Now, make sure your checkbox is data type NUMBER and has the following minimum properties set:
    Data Type = Number
    Maximum Length = 1
    Initial Value = 0
    Value when Checked = 1
    Value when Unchecked = 0
Check Box Mapping of Other Values = Not Allowed or Unchecked
Now, in your Checkbox Item's When-Checkbox-Changed trigger add code similar to this:
    IF ( CHECKBOX_CHECKED('YOUR_DETAIL_BLOCK.YOUR_CHECKBOX_ITEM') ) THEN
       IF ( :YOUR_DETAIL_BLOCK.SUM_CHECKED > 1 ) THEN
       --Reset the checkbox
       :YOUR_DETAIL_BLOCK.YOUR_CHECKBOX_ITEM := NULL;
       MESSAGE('You can only check one item.');
       Message(' ');
       RAISE Form_Trigger_Failure;
       END IF;
END IF;I have confirmed this method works and it is more efficient than looping through your records to see if other checkboxes are checked.
    Hope this helps,
    Craig B-)

  • Preventing disabling of check box - item okay in MIGO

    Dear all,
In the MIGO transaction - during goods receipt for subcontractor material, when the item (incoming) is checked as item okay - automatically the child material (Material sent to subcontractor) is also activated thereby to enable 543 movement.
Unfortunately some of the users are disabling the check box (for the material sent to the subcontractor). This prevents depletion of stock from the subcontractor but inflates the stock of the incoming material.
Is there any way - either by authorisation check to prevent users disabling the check box or other methods?
Experts suggestion is required in this regard.
    Thanks in advance.
