ZCM 10.2.2 Bundle.ItemCreationError

We are seeing many of the following errors on one particular XP sp3 PC with ZCM 10.2.2 agent.
Bundle.ItemCreationError{269306fe78d65c9119ecad9cd 1f7a82e;The process cannot access the file 'C:\Program Files\Novell\ZENworks\cache\zmd\269306fe78d65c9119 ecad9cd1f7a82e.APPSTATE' because it is being used by another process.;at System.IO.__Error.WinIOError(Int32 errorCode, String maybeFullPath) at System.IO.FileStream.Init(String path, FileMode mode, FileAccess access, Int32 rights, Boolean useRights, FileShare share, Int32 bufferSize, FileOptions options, SECURITY_ATTRIBUT}

  • More ZPM in ZCM questions--intended behavior?

Perhaps I am doing something wrong or not looking in the correct spot.
If I use ZPM in ZCM, there seems to be some deficiencies:
    a) Refresh of patch status. Meaning I go into Patch Management, click on a patch and select Actions -> Update Cache. I get the icon to change animation but it NEVER changes status unless you manually refresh the web browser. I do not believe that ZPM 6.4.x (Novell branded product) behaves this way. I think the ZPM 6.4.x will refresh the page automatically for you so you know when it's done downloading.
    b) Patch deployment status - you can't really tell what's going on with the devices. In ZPM 6.4.x I can go into devices and I see animations as to what the machine status is (is it on, is it doing a DAU, is it deploying a patch). I don't seem to be able to find any of this information in ZCM (meaning I can't just look at the device icon and see what it's doing, I have to go into the patches tab or something to see if it got deployed, but I don't know what the "live" status of the machine is).
    c) Patch Deploys in general - I am pretty sure I can go into ZPM 6.4.x and find my deployment tab and see what I chose to deploy, when, and to which machines. I don't seem to be able to find this in ZCM. I do see something like "deploy on some heinous formatted date/time" but that's it. I have to scrounge around inside the deploy to the actions section and even then it doesn't reall show me in a nice format which machines it was deployed to, let alone the status of the machines.
Again, I could be looking in the wrong spot, or perhaps it's not there.

In response here we've gone through great efforts to make the integration consistent with ZCM behavior.
    a) Only a couple of pages do auto refresh of status in ZCM. This is to allow for the greatest performance. ZPM is consistent with the rest of the ZCM behavior such as bundle status and policy status. By refreshing the page status updates.
    b) Since all deployments are done using the bundle system in ZCM you can track all status of ZPM deployments by looking at the Bundle status. There is a ZPM Assignment bundle created for each deployment. It should have status of deliveries and errors if you look at it.
    c) You should be able to go to the ZPM Assignment bundle and look at the Install Action Set. It will show you which patches are being deployed.

ZCM 10.3.1. Installing GroupWise per this:
    http://www.novell.com/communities/no...using-zenworks
I created three bundles and then created a bundle group to install
them. The first two bundles installed fine (a single msi file in
each). The third bundle was an msi with the option to include all

    I see:

gwab1.ocx does exist in the folder that was uploaded to the ZCM server

    hi ken
i have this gwab1.ocx also sometimes....i really dont know, what it causes.
i setup the hole thing from a network share and file-size should be okay.
    i also openend a ticket.
i had this also with normal setup, without zenworks....;-)
will report if i find something

    >>> KeN Etter<[email protected]> 25.03.2011 13:44 >>>
I don't know what caused this, but I do know how to work around it
now. I was uploading files to my ZCM server with the Zenworks File
Upload Extension for Firefox. The files were in a folder on my
Netware server. Uploading from that location resulted in all files
having a 0 KB size except for the MSI file. I copied the folder to my
C: drive and uploaded from that location and the files were all the
    correct size.

  • What BUndles ran report

Are there any reports available or a way an admenistrator can login to ZCM and see what Bundles ran in the last 24 hours? We have another group that writes the bundles and they sometimes run them with telling people. So I would like to run a report to see what bundles ran in the last 24 hours or maybe specify a timeframe?

  • Slowly apply updated bundle

Is there a way/best practice/etc to slowly roll out updates to a bundle?
I know I can set some devices as test devices and use the sandbox to perfect my bundle, but is there a way to slowly roll out the updated bundle to all devices?
Since ZCM keeps versions of bundles around, is there any way to specify what version of the bundle a particular group gets? Perhaps this is not possible, and our method of slowly rolling out a change to various locations is not ideal for the way ZCM is designed to work.

Updating a Bundle for only some devices is an interesting idea, it is
    not possible.
Generally most devices will not run the updated new bundle until it is
pushed via some type of "Distribution/Install" action is scheduled. One
can configure only certain locations to get the push. However, some
users at other locations would still be able to manually update.
You could also do a "Copy" bundle and then associate the new bundle to
    some devices.

  • Strange ZEN logout event triggering

    Strange ZEN logout event triggering
    Hi!
ZCM 10.3.2, Windows XP/7, Novell Client installed, have a bundle associated to device and should be triggered at ZENworks logout. This all seems to work ok, in ordinary way. But, when user auth is ok with Novell Client (against eDir), but is not attached with DLU via ZEN and appear Windows Workstation login screen and user cancel this dialog and return to Novell Client login screen, then before mentioned bundle is triggered, in some unknown for me reason. Because there is no ZEN login, not speaking about logout. I have similar bundle set to trigger at user login ... it does not run same way. Also, don't see same behavior when bundle is set to run at user logout.
    Any ideas?
Btw. this kind of cancelling login is seems to related to getting a'lot of Bundle.ItemCreationError's described in http://forums.novell.com/novell-prod...ionerrors.html.
    More thanks, Alar.

  • Strange Pixeling

    Hi All,
I have an interesting problem. I recently acquired a used iMac G4 1 Ghz 17". It had a broken screen so I replaced the entire top portion of the iMac with one from another machine with a bad motherboard and PSU. Everything seemed to be fine until, about halfway through the 10.4 install a bunch of pixels appeared on the screen with the wrong colors. They run in almost straight lines about 0.5" apart. Their color changes based on the background being displayed. They do not appear as the machine is booting or as the machine is shutting down. They, also do not appear when I boot from cd into Disk Warrior v4.??. I ran xBench and when the graphics portion is running, none of the pixels appear incorrect in the test window. I disassembled the machine and made sure all contacts were clean and cable were properly seated. I also took the broken screen and hooked it up and where the image was able to be displayed, the same problem appeared. I used the original cables for both units, so I don't think it is the video cable or monitor. I also tested the hardware with TechTool Pro v5 and all hardware tested fine. It seems to me to be a driver issue, but cannot find any drivers for the GeForce4 MX 32Mb integrated graphics chip. I am assuming, since there was not an updated driver release from apple it is a problem only I am having. Anybody have any ideas?

  • Strange Redness!

Hello, i just updated to the latest bootcamp and im pretty sure as a result i am getting some text red when it should be blue. This can be on webpages on the log on screen and other places.
I also noticed on the title bar of the window (^^ where it says Apple - Support - Discussions) it has a red shadow which is very annoying and looks kinda strange.
This might be coincidence but when i do a google search the words i search for are are red in the results. the same kinda red everything is changing to.
Anyone have any idea? Maybe a virus or something to do with the update.
    Thanks for any help

  • Group policy remains in effect

I have a workstation (windows xp) that I am trying to log into. I have a ZCM 10 group policy bundle that is assigned to the limited user on the workstation. The workstation for some reason has picked up wrong DHCP information and is trying to connect to a 192.168 network (which does not exist). Since it is not connected to my network, it cannot connect to the ZCM server, so no matter what user I log into on the workstation (including administrator), the group policy is in effect and it restricts everything. I cannot get into network connections to correct the DHCP error.
How can I get the ZCM agent on the workstation to stop enforcing the group policy? Remember, this policy prevents me from accessing the control panel, command prompt, anything in the system try (no Zenworks Z), everything.

There is no easy way to manually remove an effective group policy on a workstation... other than logging in on the domain/source that has set the policy. If PC is set to a wrong ip, but has done that via DHCP... Good thing to check if there is not some device, application or server handing out DHCP for the 192.168 network.
This is a physical machine I presume? Might be an option to swap out or place an extra nic in the PC and see if it will get a correct address on that one.. as the one installed is primarily returning to the given 192.168.x.x address.
    Cheers,
    Willem

  • Push out login to student workstations from instructor's?

Hello. Can ZW be used in a classroom situation where the instructor wants to force all of the student workstations (which are booted up and waiting at the Novell login prompt) to login to a particular Novell account (the same one for all)?
We have a classroom that we want to double as an open lab, so open lab users need to be able to login to their own accounts, but the instructor wants to be able to log them all into a single generic account for class sessions, without having to walk around to every one of them and log them in by "hand".
If ZW can't do this, does anyone know of any product that can?
    Thanks!

The rest of the time the students need to login as themselves. And this switch back and forth is happening literally on an hourly basis (class scheduled from 1-2, then open lab from 2-3, then another class from 3-4, etc.) so we can't be switching registry settings back and forth. That's why I'm looking for some kind of remote control solution that can push out the generic login on an as-needed basis, and when logged out at the end of the class, the workstations are back to normal Novell login.
It would be easier to do in ZCM by pushing out bundles that run on system boot prior to login and schedule it hourly or you can force it as required but lets get back to ZDM 7 as I know its not much help atm..
Just thinking outloud here.. if you can schedule NAL refresh on those workstations (either via Zenworks refresh which sometimes works or windows scheduler) and associate a scheduled NAL to the workstations to disable/enable it this should work as long as the users don't log off before the NAL runs.
So if an "open lab" user is using it and autoadminlogin is disabled, on the scheduled time NAL will refresh and the scheduled NAL will run enabling autoadminlogin (maybe throw an autorestart in there if class is meant to finish on the hour). Then it will restart and autologin as generic user for an hour then NAL runs to disable autologin and restart at login screen. The "open lab" user comes along and the process goes on. The only problem I can see is if noone logs in during an open lab session (while it is at login screen and autologin disabled) and then a class session starts, it will require the teacher to login as generic. The other is the security concern of not logging out straight after they leave.
This is only what I've thought up while typing but you might be able to use or modify it to your requirement.

  • Disable Patch Management temporarily on clients?

I've just noticed now that we've got ZPM enabled it seems to get a bit overexcited and start trying to patch machines while they're still being configured during our imaging process. For example our scripts go:
Image > drivers Novell Client > ZCM Agent > pre-load Bundles > AV = finish
Seems like ZPM kicks in as soon as the Agent registers into the zone. In theory it shouldn't do anything as I have the DAU set to 30 minutes after refresh (with ZCM auto refresh disabled) but yet I still see a Novell patch manager popup slide in from the corner (then disappears as quickly as it arrived)
Is there a command that can be used to temporarily disable all ZPM activity on a client? Might also be important for us for any online exams that could fall in the overall patching window.

We recently upgraded from ZCM 11.1 to 11.2.4. Since the upgrade, bundle installations do not show the dialog or error messages we would normally expect to see on our RHEL 6.2 guests. • Problem with User Assigned Bundles on Win7 x64, ZCM 10.3.4

    Greetings,
We are experiencing an issue with user assigned bundles in our environment. Specifically we are seeing the following problem on some, but not all, workstations running Windows 7 Pro x64 with ZCM 10.3.4. Some users do not get new, user assigned bundles until they log out of ZENworks Adaptive Agent, via the system tray "Z" icon, and then log back in to the agent. A simple refresh does not grab the new user assigned bundles. One has to perform this logout/login routine to get all user assigned bundles. The problem seems to be machine specific. The server shows that the missing bundles are, in fact, properly associated with the user. If the affected user logs onto a different machine, their user assigned bundles populate as expected. Any ideas?
In addition to rebooting our ZCM servers, we performed the following on the affected workstations:
    zac unr
    zac unr -f
    zac cc
    zac reg -g
    Uninstalled/reinstalled ZENworks Adaptive Agent 10.3.4
Deleted affected user's local machine profile
    Repaired CASA installation

  • Run Script action not working when verifying bundle

I have a critical "Run Script" action in a bundle. When verifying the bundle, the script doesn't seem to run and the verify action hangs indefinitely.
I see the following lines in the ZCM Log:
    Code:
[DEBUG] [07/21/2011 19:05:48.670] [5880] [runscriptenf] [1] [TeachGH] [Run Script Action] [] [Found script engine cmd.exe. Not using it since cmd.exe does not take parameters.] [] []
    [DEBUG] [07/21/2011 19:05:58.311] [5880] [runscriptenf] [1] [TeachGH] [Run Script Action] [] [Run Script Action - Ended - 7:05:58 PM] [] []
nothing else is logged after those 2 lines. It seems like ZCM decides not to run the script for some reason, but is still waiting for it to complete? Or is it possible that it has moved onto the next action, but it is hanging there and not reporting it to the log?
I have no time to troubleshoot right now, will do so in depth tomorrow. Just wanted to get this posted in case anybody has a clue.

Nevermind, the next action is running, and that is what is hanging, which I doubt is Zenworks fault... Time for some more troubleshooting.

  • Error when creating a bundle or policy

    Hi
We are running ZCM 10.3 on SLES10 and when we try to create a bundle or policy we get an error after pressing the finish button.
The wizard cannot continue for the following reason(s):
Unable to complete your request for the following reason: com.novell.zenworks.datamodel.exceptions.InternalD ataModelException: com.novell.zenworks.datamodel.exceptions.InternalD ataModelException: org.hibernate.exception.ConstraintViolationExcepti on: could not insert collection: [com.novell.zenworks.datamodel.objects.assignableco ntent.AssignableContentObject.ContentServers#9b5f6 6c5a47022d1c5b51b098392d30a]
It has worked before and we have 120 bundles in the system, and we have been running 10.3 for a while now without problems.
I've atteched the log on the error.
Sorry for the big logfile-dump but I wasn't sure on what I could delete so I copied it all.
Any ideas or should I log a SR?
    Best regards
    /Jonas

Did you ever solve this issue? We are experiencing the same errors, but with ZCM 11. Server configurstion is Windows Server 2008R2, database is MS SQL 2005.
Every time we try to create or change a (Windows) bundle or policy there's an error message in ZCC. The error is:
    com.novell.zenworks.datamodel.exceptions.InternalD ataModelException: com.novell.zenworks.datamodel.exceptions.InternalD ataModelException: org.hibernate.exception.ConstraintViolationExcepti on: could not insert collection: [com.novell.zenworks.datamodel.objects.assignableco ntent.AssignableContentObject.ContentServers
...followed by a different GUID(?) every time.
We've placed a SR but haven't had any suggestions from Novell yet - we're soon going from calm to panic as we are planning to move from test to production in two weeks...
    Cheers,
    Peter
