ZCM 10,3 Inventory Apple
Hi,
i am trying to get my apple systems to inventory. I installed the inventory.dmg file and rebooted a few times. The mac does not seem to show up in inventoried only devices.
I am wondering if this is because of of invalid certificate error? when i go to the ZCC on my server i get safari cannot identify website "server ip". I opened it and hit always trust from that ip. But still when i close and reopen ZCC it shows certificate invalid.
Maybe that is not the issue. Anyone have any idea where or how i can start troubleshooting this?

Workstation Inventory does not match primary server
The inventory in ZCM is incomplete for many workstations. the errant worksations only have a partial software inventory. If I do a scan-now the workstations xml file gains the proper information, but it never updates the server. I can trace the delta file going through the satelite server, but no new software is reported. If I remove the workstation object and reboot, zcm clears the inventory, but still never recieves any new information. If I remove the agent from the workstation, and remove the Zenworks directory the workstation now works, but that is impractical on 2000 workstations.
Specualtation: The workstations, not knowing there was an error on their side always sends a delta.xml file without any changes. So the server never gets updated.
Is there a way to tell the workstation to send a complete software inventory and not just changes?Well, of course, I found the answer 2 minutes after posting. Just delete the C:\Program Files\Novell\ZENworks\work\inventory\***-full.xml file and the workstation doesn't know it took inventory before and the whole world is happy.

How to export ZCM inventory database?
We're in the middle of implementing a new Service Desk Tool.
I'd like - no, I need - to have workstation inventory data present in that tool.
What's the best way to get to that information?
How can I export data?
Thanks
Kind regards
RolandDo you want it to be an export or actually attached to the ZCM database?
We are in the process of trying to do the same with SupportWorks and linking it to the system. -
ZCM Inventory and Non-Standard Ports
Greetings all:
I have a client who has ZCM installed on a Windows server. During the install they decided to not use port 80 and 443 (due to another app on the box) and instead use 90 and 1443. After we applied ZCM 10.1, 10.1.1 and 10.1.2 the server showed issues with imaging. Research showed the issue to be trying to use port 1443 instead of 443. When we tried to change any config file to reflect 1443 the file would be changed back to 443. They decided to use 443 for SSL communications but still needed to use port 90 for other communications.
Recently they realized that devices were not inventorying. They do not have the full agent installed on their workstations, only the inventory-only agent. It appears that any new workstations with a new install of the agent inventory, but updates do not occur. We enabled logging on a test machine. Please see the relevant part of the log below.
Changing the umia xml file to reflect port 80 on the workstation seems to correct the issue and we can upload new data.
What happened during our upgrade to change the ports we use to communicate with this server and what files can we edit to get back to the original ports we defined?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Donna

ZCM Agent Inventory Scan - Patterns for Software Recognition
Hey Everyone,
Is is possible to find out which patterns the Inventory Scan uses to determine the installed Software products? (are there any local files on the agent-side with information what to look for?)
For some reason the Microsoft Office 2010 Professional Plus Installations wont be found any longer and I so far I cant figure out why this is happening (actually a few Office 2003 Products are shown, even on freshly installed Win7 Devices which have never seen any office Installation besides 2010)
Perhabs this might be related to the Office 2003 Compatibility Pack. This one was installed accidentally and I removed it via an uninstall bundle. Seemed to work fine, but ever since then Office 2010 wont be found within the inventory.
To test this behaviour I installed a clean win7 + Office 2010 + ZCM Agent. In this case Office 2010 is found.

ZCM Inventory Scan of a NetWare 6.5 Server
I was able to install the ZCM Adaptive Agent for NetWare servers on all of my NetWare servers, and I can see these servers in Devices/Servers after performing a discovery.
How can I run an inventory scan for these NetWare servers so I can get more detailed information about these servers?
Thank You,

Hello everbody,
I have a Problem with the Inventory Management in ZCM 10.3. (possible maybe only an understanding Problem...)
I Installed the ZCM in our testing Lab. In this scenario i have 1 ZCM Server, 2 Server and 4 Workstations with several Software Products on the Maschines.
After installing the ZCM Server i deploy the Adaptive Agent on 1 Server and 3 Workstations. After the Discovery Run i have 49 Software Products in my Inventory.
Next Day i installed the AdminStudio 9.5 on a client and an Instance of SQL Express 2008 on the ZCM server to deploy packages via ZCM. After a reboot of the ZCM the Inventorylist of the ZCM ist empty and the 49 Software Products are lost?
When i deploy the Agent to a new Client, the Asset Management count the Softwareinstallations and display it to the Server, but the 49 lost Entries are away.
Where are the Software Entries?
Is it possible that the Installation of the SQL Express 2008 (i installed it only for the Bundle Catalog) kicks the Inventory data?
I See the Software in the Inventory Report, but i have no chance to configure the Software-Use in the Asset Management.

ADF values not showing in inventory
I have a couple administrator defined fields (ADF) that seemed to be populated on the workstation (shown in %ZENWORKS_HOME%\work\inventory\*-cdflast.xml) but they do not appear in the Zenworks inventory report. Why would that be?
(ZCM agent v11.2.4)Must I have "Launch Collection Data Form" checked in Inventory/Scan Now to get ADF into the inventory?

Hello,
Where does the ZCM10 Inventory Asset Tag and Serial Number fields come from
? (The SMBIOS ? Which fields ? )
We purchase generic INTEL PC's from a local pc vendor (not a dell, or ibm).
Currently the only asset/serial information is attached adhesivly to the
PC's.
I'm looking at a process to modify the SMBIOS via Intel's Integrator
Toolkit, I have the option to set the following SMBIOS values:
System Serial Number
System Version
Chassis Asset Tag
Chassis Serial Number
Using a third party SMBIOS browser I've verified the values are being set
and changing. Unfortunatly ZCM 10 does not update the "Asset Tag" or the
"Serial Number" (Even when I click scan now). Where are these values
(Currenly blank) being pulled from on the PC?
Thanks,
-PaulHello,
After a bit of research It looks like ZCM is looking for the asset/serial as
part of the BIOS/DMI.
I have the SMBIOS populated with the information that I would like to
inventory.
Is is possible to redirect the asset/serial scanning on the adaptive agent
to the SMBIOS?
Is is possible to add a new field which is autofilled via WMI (SMBIOS) ?
Thanks,
-Paul

New Inventoried Devices are not shown in ZCC
Hello,
we are using ZCM 10.3.1. In the past i installed the Inventory-only
Agent on serveral devices. After a little while they are visible in ZCC.
But this doesn't seem to work anymore.
A few days ago, i installed the Inventory-only client on several devices
but they are not visible in ZCC. I looked in the file "uiaconfig.xml" on
the client. There are no entries for my ZCM-Servers in this file. I
added the IP-address of one server like <server>ipaddress:80</server>
and restarted the agent, but his did not help. I am not sure if it is a
client or server problem. Where can i start searching?
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi!
Is there a chance to make a survey to all connected users for a
"electronic inventory" - they should get their inventory presented on a
web site and they had to put in their correct location, room nr, name
etc. Is there a way to get such a survey run with ZCM? I have in mind
that this should be possible, or am i wrong?
best regards,

Probable BUG found in Sybase Inventory database
Hi All,
(Sure is quiet around here - must be because ZDM 7 is so stable...)
So I have been having inventory database issues. Random but inevitable
database failures - eg "assertion failed 201425" (and other numbers that I
cannot locate at the moment), "mgmtdbs.db is not a valid database file" on
starting the sybase database. Etc.
Long troubleshooting story short: it appears that the sybase.nlm application
cannot handle nss volumes that are large. In my case it fails if I try to
run it on a 3.6TB or 5TB volume, but succeeds if I run it on small volumes -
20GB to 65GB. Also the database was running fine on a 1.8TB volume - the
problems began when I virtualized the server (on ESX 3.5u4) and moved the
volume from direct-attached scsi storage to network-attached CoRAID (AoE)
storage AND expanded the volume to 3.6TB.
To test my theory I ran the database on two other servers and 3 other
volumes. In all cases success came when the hosting volume was small -
didn't matter if the host volume was direct attached or on a physical server
as opposed to a virtual server.
So if you are having inventory database problems, try moving the database to
volume that is small - I suspect the magic breaking point is 2TB which just
happens to be the maximum size of an NSS partition...and wasn't that also
the max size of an NSS volume sometime in the past? Maybe the sysbase
engineers were working in such an environment when they wrote the
nlm...after all it has been 4 years since it was last modified (I am running
v8.00.03, Nov 30 2005) and even longer since it was originally written.
Anyways, the reason it fails is not so important. There is a workaround and
a long term solution as well - move to ZCM 10.whatever-is-good ;-)
Cheers,

PS If you have any evidence to back me up - or to disprove me - please
share!Isn't it funny how once unfathomable disk sizes are now not that unusual?
My guess is you are correct and if an SR was created on the issue Novell
would likey raise the matter to Sybase for investigation.
(Clearly this sounds as if its a bug and would be refunded.)
But I think it's unlikely that it would be fixed even if verified since the
NLM is already so old.
While you have simple work-arounds, It is possible that the Windows and
Linux versions of Sybase that come with ZDM don't have this issue.

Rights to Inventory Custom Reports
Hi
On our ZCM zone (recently upgraded to ZCM 11.2.1) only the "Administrator" can view Inventory Custom Reports. All other admins (including superadmins) see nothing in the Inventory Custom Reports list. If they create a new report the name is accepted but never shows. If another attempt is made it states "folder already exists".
I have given full access to all custom reports with the following but still they never show in ZCC for superadmins (browsers: ie8, ie9, firefox 10.0.5)
ZCC->Configuration->Click the adminuser -> rights tab -> assign rights through "Inventory Report Rights" in the left pane under "Administrator Tasks"
I have also added the specific "Reporting Rights" for the adminusers to the Reports folder but the result is the same. They should not need the reporting rights anyway as they are superadmins.
Any suggestions on how to make this work?
Thanks

Even if I give them full rights to all custom reports and standard reports, they won't see them.
The only way for them to see the standard reports is to be a super admin.

I vaguely remember running into this. No, you don't need to give them super admin, but you have to do something odd/funky. It was supposed to have been fixed in 11.2 and it wasn't. I vaguely remember it was TID #7007898
We had 2 issues with that.
1) if you didn't get rid of the .xml file it would generate errors/exceptions (at least if you're using Oracle), so it wouldn't actually run/do what it was supposed to do (that's the bug/defect that was supposedly fixed)
2) Try running it manually with the zman rpfs instead
I think that fixed it for us.
We have non-super admin users who can see custom reports that one of our other non-super admins has created. -
Computer ID and inventory continuity
Hi guys,
I have some questions about computer identification - does anyone can tell me how ZCM recognize computer ID and what is that unique ID for the computer? Is that GUID and only GUID?
My potential customer asked me about it, and i'm concidering about possibility of combine GUID with MAC address, for example - ZCM can do this?
Thats important for him, let's discus about scenario- he wants to have continuity in inventory. For example, he has a computer with Windows XP and that computer is invetoried and managed by ZCM, then he updated that Windows XP to Win Vista, 7, or whatever - the question is - is that possible to "update" informations about this computer in zone, in ZCM, without creating a new workstation object? He wants to have information in device's history about changing OS from Windows "X" to Windows "Y" and have all of this info in one workstation object, that's why im asking about combination of GUID and MAC, for example.
Regards,
P.GUID is the Unique Identifier.
Mac, Machine Name, and Serial Number can be used by ZCM to automatically
keep a Physical Device linked to a GUID between Re-Images, HD Failures,
OS Upgrades etc.. etc..
The process of keeping a device linked is "Reconciliation" and there are
settings controlling this in the ZCC.
It is also possible to manually use "zac reg" to register a PC to a
specific device in the ZCC.
