ZCM 11.2 cannot remote control across WAN

ZCM 11.2 appliance (sole Primary). There is a satellite located across the WAN at my other office. It is still at 10.3. Just completed upgrading from ZCM 10.3 appliance to 11.2 appliance. I can remote control any PC on my LAN. But if I attempt to remote a device across the WAN, I get an error: "Rights Authentication failed. The managed device was unable to contact the ZENworks server." I tried this too many times with my satellite and now it gives me this error: "The managed device is blocked from accepting Remote Management requests since the number of consecutive unsuccessful attempts exceeded the configured limit." The only cause I have seen listed for this is time not in sync. But I believe I have everything in sync. Any suggestions for how to fix this?
Ken
PS. nntp access to the forums appears to be down. I had to use the web interface to post this.

  • Cannot remote control clients in another domain

    Hi,
I have successfully rolled out SCCM 2012 clients with SCEP to machines in our current domain but I now need to do the same to another domain (in a two way trusted forest/domain). I can install the clients without any issue (by adding the DNSSUFFIX argument
to the client push so it can find it's way home), and they are reporting back in successfully including inventories.
However I cannot remote control any of these clients from the console, I've added a domain admin account (from the trusted domain) as a viewer and I've added the Windows firewall exceptions in the agent details. I can get to these clients without any
issues, tracert is fine so I know the routing is good.
If I try and connect I get the generic "Cannot connect to computer" (after "initiating security handshake"), if I do it direct from the Remote Control client I can remote control the client after dismissing the warning "Remote computer
identity cannot be identified". But I understand that this uses NTLM rather than Kerberos.
What have I missed ? I had all this working in SCCM 2007 without any issues so pretty sure the underlying infrastructure is sound.
Any help gratefully received and thanks for taking the time to read this.
    Brian.

Thanks everyone for taking the time to reply - I'll put this is the one reply it's easier !
    @Jason
Interesting about the DNSSUFFIX thing, there are DNS forwarders back to the domain and it seems to find its way home. When I had SCCM 2007 I used the SMSSLP parameter for the client install, I can't do that in SCCM 2012 hence the DNSSUFFIX parameter.

The issue is from the console - I can connect via FQDN or IP but get the warning "The Remote computer identity cannot be verified".
    @Joyce
See the extract above, thanks for pointing me towards this log. I can confirm that the correct Firewall exceptions are in place and the membership of the ConfigMgr Remote Control Users reflects the permitted viewers in the client settings.
Just seeing if I can resolve the lookup issue, DNS seems to fine ! Unless I've missed something in SCCM.

So, I have a few Terminal servers (now called Remote Desktop Servers) setup and running, various Operating systems, but all 2008r2 and above.
All of them are having an issue that has cropped up over the last few months. Either in Task manger, or in the Remote Desktop Manger, I cannot right click and select "Remote Control" to see what a user sees.
As you can see the, connect and Remote control are Grayed out. Although on some of the servers, I can connect, that disconnects the user from the system.
I cannot find a setting that allows me to unlock this ability.
I am an admin, and I can provide any information that you need.
    Thanks!

    Thanks a bunch, Chris.

Hey Chris, I know that we have certain ports blocked on our router that
prevent WOL across the WAN. I have to use a tool by SolarWinds called
"WakeOnLan". Here is a link to their free download.
http://www.solarwinds.com/downloads/ The only drawback is you have to know
the mac and ip of the target machine. Plus you have to register on their
site to download. Hope this helps,

  • 11.2.4 Remote Control vs VNC

I have a problem using the remote control with Zenworks (ZCM 11.2.4.0).
Before Zenworks, we used VNC (3.3.9) for the remote control, but since the agent deployment many workstations are not accessible via ZCC.
I noticed this on the workstations in question :
If we install VNC (official version) in addition to Zenworks, where the Zenworks agent has been installed it will destroy almost every files in C:\Program Files\Novell\ZENworks\bin! As a result, the nzrWinVNC.exe no longer exists and the service 'Novell ZENworks Remote Management powered by VNC' disappeared aswell from the list of running services and therefore I cannot remote control the workstations anymore.
I do not understand this behavior.
Is there any effective way to partially restore the corrupted agent (i.e reinstall the RM missing part)? Or otherwise any method that I can follow.
    Thank you.

If the ZCM Agent works EXCEPT for Remote Control try the following.
In the ZCC, go into details of the object in the ZCC and configure that
device to "Not install" Remote Management Components.
Force a Remote Refresh (or have someone do it manually on the device.)
Once the refresh is done, Enable Remote Control Components and refresh
    again.
This process will tell the agent to remove and then tell it to install
    those components. That may help.
And definitely configure a Remote Control Password via your Remote
Control Policy and give it out to your techs. That way if they prefer
VNC to manage devices, they can still do that w/o installing VNC on the PC.

  • Apple Remote Desktop CANNOT observe/control/curtain 30" Cinema Display

Apple Remote Desktop CANNOT observe/control/curtain 30" Cinema Display. All my other pc's (G4, G3, titanium, 17" Powerbooks and Macbooks) can be observed, using identical settings. i figured out that it may be the graphics card while trying to Microsoft Remote Desktop Connect to the Macbook running XP, the system crashed due to the (well known as really bad) ATI mobility XP drivers provided by bootcamp. So i quess the problem is the dual link in my G5 running on the 30". All the other remote desktop commands run fully ok. i just cannot get visual feed.
    Any thoughts??
    Thank you all in advance
    Dual G5, Dual G4, G3, 15" titanium, 17" Powerbook, 17" Macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

I've had this problem, too, recently. I have two G5s running 30" displays, I'll describe my situation - it may come down to your video card.
When I try to connect to one of the G5/30" on my network (a PowerMac 7,2, 512MB, running a GeForce6800 Ultra), it sporadically gives me the same non-visual problem you're having. But every now and then, I can connect, and can't figure out why. A lot of times in the ARD multi-observe window, it reports that this machine is maxing out the memory (98.7%, putting it in the red)
However, when I try to connect to another G5/30" on the network (a PowerMac 7,3, 512MB running an ATI Radeon 800 XT), I DO get a visual.
Maybe others know of known deficiencies in ARD/NVidia connections? Or maybe it has to do with the paltry RAM in the machine?

  • Remote control using DCOM: Error: "ActiveX component cannot be created."

    Hello,
I want to address a OMICRON CPC100 device via remote control. I have a dll ("TESTCONTROL.dll"), which provides methods to control the CPC100. In order to encapsulate this functionality, I've written a VB.NET-dll ("CLC_CL_for_Net.dll") (it's a class-dll) which calls methods of TESTCONTROL.dll. Now I want to use CLC_CL_for_Net.dll in LabVIEW.
    Here's the code of CLC_CL_for_Net.dll:
    Imports TESTCONTROLLib
    Namespace MyCPCNamespace
        Public Class CPCClass
            Public Sub New()
            End Sub
Public Sub testfunction(ByVal ipaddress As String)
                Dim tc As TestProcedure
                Dim atm As IATMTest
tc = CreateObject("TestControl.TestProcedure", ipaddress)   '<-- here the error occurs!
                atm = CreateObject("TestControl.ATMTest", ipaddress)
                atm.Activate(300, 10, 1)
                atm.Deactivate()
            End Sub
        End Class
    End Namespace
In order to enable DCOM on my computer, I did the following:
    - I switched the firewall off.
    - I started "dcomcnfg.exe", chose "Component Services/Computers/My Computer -> Properties" and checked the checkbox "Enable Distributed COM on this computer".
    - I also chose the tab "My Computer Properties/COM Security" and allowed everyone full access and launch
    permissions.
    - I created an exe-file from my LabVIEW VI, which uses the dll, with the help of the LabVIEW Application Builder.
For this exe-file and also for the TESTCONTROL, I set the authentication level to "None".
For test purposes, I used my dll in a C++ project. There everything works fine. However, when I try to use the dll
in LabVIEW (using LabVIEW's .NET constructor node and method node, which you can find under Connectivity -> .NET), the program fails at the line "tc = CreateObject("TestControl.TestProcedure", ipAddress)".
Here the error message displayed by LabVIEW (I translated it from German into English):
"Error 1172 has occurred at Error calling method CLC_CL_for_Net.MyCPCNamespace.CPCClass.testfunction of ObjectId
handle: 0x2BB117C for obj 0x3F19E1D[CLC_CL_for_Net.MyCPCNamespace.CPCClass] in domain [LabVIEW Domain for Run] and
thread 3792, (System.Reflection.TargetInvocationException: Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation.
Inner Exception: System.Exception: The ActiveX component cannot be created.
    ) in CPC100_RemoteControlVI.vi"
As the dll works when I use it in the C++ project, I don't understand why this error occurs when I use the dll in
LabVIEW. Do I have to give LabVIEW any special permissions?
Can anyone help me to solve this problem? Thanks a lot for your efforts!
    Regards,
    Matthias

    Hi Matthias,
I am not really familiar with .NET assemblies but I found couple informations on your error :
First of all, about the Error 1172 in LabVIEW, there is two things to proof:
Ensure that the .NET assemblies that you are using are saved in the root directory of the top-level VI.
Add the .NET assembly as a reference in LabVIEW by selecting Tools»Advanced»NET Assembly References. Click the Add button and navigate to the location of all the assemblies that you want to call.
Those two steps sometimes solve Error 1172 related problems. I also found some information about the "ActiveX component cannot be created" error. A .Net Class library needs to be in a COM wrapper in order for it to be called through COM methods, such as ActiveX. The way to do so is:
    1. Create a new .NET Class Library project.
    2. Remove the Class1.vb that is created.
    3. Click Add Class on your project.
    4. Choose "COM Class", and add it.
    5. Add at least 1 function or sub in it.
    6. Compile it, and Visual Studio should registrer it automaticly.
If you whish to manuall reg it, or create a registry entry file, use "RegAsm.exe" in the .NET Framework folder.
I hope this could be any helpful to you

  • ZCM remote control on Windows 7 slow

    Hi!
Well, ZCM 11.2.1, Windows 7. Noticed that Remote Control via ZCC is ... strangely slow when user is logged in. On CAD screen it's ok. Well, this is first W7 device in zone, haven't noticed such a thing on WXP.
Btw. Using Intel KVM (also VNC) ... it is much more quicker, well, sure, hardware based etc., but anyway.
Also, I use on my WXP device remote control soft from ZCM 10.x, maybe this the cause, not sure ZCM 11.x remote control soft does work with ZCM 10, I need them both running on my desktop as most of computers in ZCM 10 zone.
    Any ideas?
    More thanks, Alar.

I'm not aware that you can use both versions of the Remote Management Plugin against two diff. Zones.
    Perhaps that's the issue?
Do you have a pc that you can install JUST the ZCM 11.x remote management viewer and then try to remote control a ZCM 11.x agent?

I'm having remote control issues as well. It stops working, and the option to disable or enable the IR receiver disappears from the security pane of system preferences. If I start and restart my Mac several times, I can usually bring it back. I use the remote frequently for watching movies. The resetting procedure doesn't work. Anyone know how to deal with this?

    1) Change the Windows Firewall/ICS service to manual
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\SharedAccess
    String Value Start = 3
    2) Force Windows Firewall/ICS service to start before Remote Management
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Novell User Agent
Multi String Value DependOnService = SharedAccess
NOTE: DependOnService must also contain WM
    3)Set Firewall Exceptions for wuser.exe
netsh firewall add portopening UDP 1761 ZENRC Enable
netsh firewall add portopening UDP 1762 ZENRC Enable
netsh firewall add allowedprogram c:\novell\zenrc\wuser32.exe ZenRC enable
NOTE We placed the netsh commands in the autoexec.bat of every WinXpSp2
    machine.
This fixed the problems for us, and allows us to remote control even if
    the user is not connected.

  • Unplugging all network devices from Fios router prevents DVR freezing and remote control lock ups.

    All,
I recently had a Verizon tech visit my house due to constant DVR and remote control freezing. TV content was freezing whether it was locally recorded, pulled from another DVR in the house, or On Demand. On a hunch after the tech tested everything and was about to leave, he unplugged my gigabit switch from the Fios router. Lo and behold everything started running perfectly. Since to the tech, the problem was solved, he closed the case and was on his way. The probem is of course I have more devices than the built in router switch provides ports for. My network is compised of an 8 port Netgear gigabit switch downstream from the Fios router with two wireless access points (with their own built in gigbait switches) connecting to the Netgear gigabit switch. There are no loops in the switch topology. I've tried changing out the router, the gigabit switch, removing the wireless acces points individually as well as plugging the access points directly into the Fios router switch (one at a time with no Netgear switch in the middle) and all scenarious cause the DVR/remote control freeezing to come back. The only devices I can plug into the Fios router without causing freezes are PC's....anything with it's own switch essentially brings the network to it's knees. If anyone has an idea how to get my network back in one piece AND make the DVR's/remotes behave, I'd greatly appreciate the help!

I am inclined to echo several of the "tns" comments, particularly with respect to your splitter.  My layout is based on a standard 8-port splitter of the type usually supplied in a VZ install.  In addition I do have a ChannelPlus device that functions as a powered splitter, but its use is limited to distribution of secondary TV signals to older analog TVs.  My first point then is that this may be an offender as "tns" has suggested.
In addition, I'd describe your wiring as "non-standard" (red-colored items in the above diagram)  As you're no doubt aware, with 75/35 you don't really need Cat5e from the ONT (your original diagram).  It seems the highest tiers do require it, but in "standard" installations this run is coax directly to an 8-port non-powered splitter (below diagram), then from that splitter via coax to all STBs and CableCards, other TVs, et.), and also to the Actiontec.   Subsequent feeds from the Actiontec to wired devices (including WAPs) are via Ethernet (typically Cat 5e).
In fact I don't immediately see how your STBs get additional services such as On Demand and IMG with the wiring shown in your diagram (perhaps someone can help me out here).  In "standard" installs the Actiontec must be connected via coax to the ONT to provide such services to other network clients.  I don't see that requirement being met here.
For starters I'd recommend that you change your service from WAN Ethernet to WAN coax.  This can easily be accomplished over the telephone.  Then I'd run coax directly from the ONT to the Actiontec as in my revised diagram below (blue-colored items).  If your setup can manage with this arrangement, I think it will help greatly with the "freezing" issue.

Subsequent Note:  You provided additional info while I was composing a response, and I'd  like to offer another comment.  Structured wiring "panels" of the type usually available are pre-configured to provide data, phone and video.  This usually means that one is in certain respects limited by the ideas of the panel designer.  I have what can be called a structured wiring layout, but it really is composed of individual small custom networks for  each service (automation, security, video, data, telco, etc.), configured so that all wiring terminates in "home run" fashion at a central panel (a few details here: http://forums.verizon.com/t5/Home-Networking/Cmon-Show-Us-Your-Network/m-p/481733#M765 ).  This layout makes it easier to make adjustments (and there have been quite a few over the intervening years).  I'm thinking that in your case you may have to abandon the powered splitter (presumably) built into the panel in order to avoid your present fix.
Subsequent Subsequent Note:   From your description it seems that you are using more than a single "whole house" DVR to supply programming to other devices.  This is a bit puzzling to me because somewhere along the line I recall reading that only a single whole house DVR was allowed on the network.  Can you elaborate a bit?

  • How can I fix the remote control order of the chapters?

I am using the new 6.0 theme of Reflection Black--submenu Chapters. THis gives you two rows of chapters (which shows the looping movies and title of the chapter). I am importing the .mov slideshows in the order I want them accessed with the remote control of the TV (or DVD Player remote), but this is not the case. Instead, when clicking the right arrow on the remote control, the next chapter is not the one laid down in order, but another chapter. (From the first chapter, it skips to the second row, then back to first row, then back to second row.) Basically, the remote does not forward to the next chapter in the order they were imported.
Can anyone help? I have been told by Applecare that the map icons cannot be reordered. But starting a new iDVD project and importing in order does not work. I tried other themes and the ones with lists work and can even reorganize the order for you if you drag and change the position of the chapter!
    Thanks

There seems to be some order in some themes, but this particular one has no order. Hoping also to hear of a solution. Applecare said to reinstall iDVD if I can't fix the problem with creating a new project, but I don't think this is the issue, since other themes work.
