ZCM 11.4 Updates

I'm a newbie to the world ZCM. We currently operation version 11.2.4. Could explain how updates work with ZCM or how can I display all the updates that are currently install at my primary servers.
I'm a little confuse if there are any update that have been publish after my installed of 11.2.4. I just been have a few users not been able to login to ZCM.

Also keep in mind that "Login Issues" are very complex and an SR may help.
The problem is that there are so many place things could go wrong.
Could be an LDAP Issue, ZCM Primary Issue, Certificate Issue, Client Issue, etc.. etc...
It is very unlikely applying any patch would resolve an logon issue.
Re-Applying the last patch could resolve an issue if the patch only 1/2 installed originally and left the server in an invalid state.

ZCM 11 SP3 Updates will not complete on client machines

We are trying to upgrade Windows 7 devices to 11.3, however every single device (so far just a test run of 5) get stuck at 92% complete. They don't fail out either they just get stuck.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

check the log files for the update on the devices, at 92% from my experience it's usually installing or trying to install the endpoint security component (the setup.exe one)
there should be a heap of log files within a long named folder in the system-update folder on the devices you are trying to upgrade

Basic backup and maintenance questions - ZCM 10.3.3

Hello all,
I am looking for information and feedback about ZCM maintenance and database backup.
We have ZCM 10.3.3 running on a SLES 11 VM. I do keep a clone of the ZCM server when updates are made for backup.
I have I guess a couple of simple questions:
1. How do I tell which database type was selected when ZCM was setup?
2. What are the basic maintenance procedures to address database issues?
3. What should I be backing up for the database?
I did not build this ZCM server and I need to know more. Mostly I need to do some database maintenance as workstation deletions take an extremely long time and I have read somewhere else in the forums that I should be performing DB maintenance and I just need some sort of procedure.

You can check inside the file zdm.xml to know which database you have
The file is locate at :
On Windows
ZENworks_installation_path\conf\datamodel
On Linux
/etc/opt/novell/zenworks/datamodel
For database maintenance you can check in the doc Novell Doc: System Planning, Deployment, and Best Practices Guide - Scalability, Fault Tolerance, Maintenance, and Sizing of the Database Server
You can also take a look a the disaster recovery guide because it give some info to what you need to take in backup.

Uninstall / reinstall ZCM Linux failed

i have an issue on Linux serveur SLES 10 SP3 / OES 2 SP3 with ZCM agent
i have uninstalled the agent manually ZCM 11.1 update Monthly 1 with novell-zenworks-xplat-uninstall. The process is running correctly. But when i install the new agent 11.2.1
i have this errors
/opt/novell/zenworks/share/zmd/java/bin/java: error while loading shared libraries: libjli.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Exiting with error code 127.
i have found this TID 7000580 which told is resolved in 11.2 but ...
Any idea to help you ?

After reading your message, i anderstand to copy from a other working sles11-server the container /opt/novell/zenworks/share to /opt/novell/zenworks ? is this right?
or must be /opt/novell/zenworks/share to /opt/novell/zenworks/share ?

Computer ID and inventory continuity

I have some questions about computer identification - does anyone can tell me how ZCM recognize computer ID and what is that unique ID for the computer? Is that GUID and only GUID?
My potential customer asked me about it, and i'm concidering about possibility of combine GUID with MAC address, for example - ZCM can do this?
Thats important for him, let's discus about scenario- he wants to have continuity in inventory. For example, he has a computer with Windows XP and that computer is invetoried and managed by ZCM, then he updated that Windows XP to Win Vista, 7, or whatever - the question is - is that possible to "update" informations about this computer in zone, in ZCM, without creating a new workstation object? He wants to have information in device's history about changing OS from Windows "X" to Windows "Y" and have all of this info in one workstation object, that's why im asking about combination of GUID and MAC, for example.

GUID is the Unique Identifier.
Mac, Machine Name, and Serial Number can be used by ZCM to automatically
keep a Physical Device linked to a GUID between Re-Images, HD Failures,
OS Upgrades etc.. etc..
The process of keeping a device linked is "Reconciliation" and there are
settings controlling this in the ZCC.
It is also possible to manually use "zac reg" to register a PC to a
specific device in the ZCC.

Remote management policy

Hi we're having an issue ever since our Windows Server 2008 ZCM server was updated from 11.1 to 11.2.
It looks like the remote management policy that we typically use no longer is effective.
The original policy was setup in a way that you did not have to require users consent to remote the machine. Now it does. When I do a properties on the agent in the remote management policy section, it shows up as recognizing only the default.
Any ideas?

Imaging support for ax88179 (USB3.0-Gigabit Ethernet adapter

Hi
I anyone aware whether support for ax88179 (USB3.0-Gigabit Ethernet adapter) will be added in forthcoming ZCM patches/driver updates?
We are running 11.3.2 but are assessing these adapters for imaging a fleet of tablet/notbook machines we have arriving... The docks are only 10/100 and we need gigabit given the number we will have to deploy...!

Development will need the results to add support.
You may be able to get it working yourself with the NEWID command in the short-term or you may need new drivers added.
Either way, it is best to open an SR but if you have that data in hand, it will speed the process.

Unable to update 10 ZCM 10.3.3

I have the following situation I have a ZCM 10.3.3 server running on SLES 10.
I have installed an other server SLES 11 with ZCM 10.3 to join the existing zone. I want to update the new server to version 10.3.3. I have downloaded
the ZCM 10.3.3 manual update. Placed the file in /opt/novell/zenworks, did a chown zenworks:zenworks on the file and started zman sui updatefilename.zip.
I then did a zac ref but it doesn't show in the update screen. Version 10.3.4 does show up but 10.3.3 not. Is it maybe because i already deployed 10.3.3 ?
How can I manually deploy the 10.3.3 to the new servers?

I did what you suggested and the 10.3.3 update is there, but when I go to deploy to my new Primary that is 10.3.0, the deploy option is greyed out. All my Primaries are baselined to 10.3.3. Any Ideas?

IE8 unsupported error after updating to ZCM 11 Support Pack 1 (11.1)

Does any experience this problem after updating to ZCM11sp1?
I keep getting IE8 unsupported error after updating to ZCM 11 Support
Pack 1 (11.1) although I am running on IE8 already. Now remote
management is not working because of this incompatible browser errors. I
tried this following

Thank you for your responding. I have already checked to view Internet
sites in compatibility mode with no luck. I tried several different
computers with IE8 but they all got the same problem.

ZCM 11.2.3a baseline agent update

Hi there,
I already have 3500 workstations running ZCM Agent 11.2.3a
These workstations were either updated from 11.2 to this version, or were new workstation installations.
There are still a number of machines which need to be updated.
Due to initial testing the update was originally assigned to small batches of machines at a time.
I now want to baseline all the workstations so that any outstanding machines are updated to version 11.2.3.a.
If I now apply the update to all devices in the zone, can I rest assured, that those workstations which have already
beed updated or had the new agent installed on them will be ignored.
ie only machines on the older version will be updated
I am pretty sure this is the case but I just need to confirm to cover myself.
ie the update will not try and re-apply itself to updated machines.

ZCM 11.2.3a to 11.2.4 Update stuck on "Update Assigned"

We are updating from ZCM 11.2.3a to 11.2.4 and then hopefully to 11.2.4MU1 to fix some issues with imaging new machines. I downloaded both updates and imported them using the zman sui commands and then waited for replication to finish to all servers and satellites. Initially scheduled the first update to kick off for our primary server after business hours and the time passed and nothing happened. I refreshed the server and still nothing. Tried the deploy now option and got the same. Checked the zmd-messages.log as well as services-messages.log and there are no errors or mentions of a system update at all.
The update has been sitting at "update assigned" all weekend through multiple refreshes and has yet to start. Any help would be appreciated.

Does your reference to "SP3" mean SLES11 SP3 or ZCM11 SP3?
If SLES11 SP3 then yes, you should avoid upgrading to SLES11 SP3 when
upgrading SLES11 SP1 to SLES11 SP2 as you should fully patch SLES11 SP2
before upgrading to SLES11 SP3 (it's not supported to go directly from
SLES11 SP1 to SLES11 SP3).
With remote access to your server you have two options to upgrade from
SLES11 SP1 to SLES11 SP2 - YaST wagon and zypper. See

Update of ZCM Agent in VMware after reverting to snapshot.

I have update a Windows 7 VMware Workstation to Version 10.3.3. Thereafter I reverted to a snapshot before the update.
Now the Workstation Object in ZCM shows "ZENworks Agent-Version: 10.3.2.41992" which ist correct because of the snapshot.
BUT the status in "Assigned System Updates" shows: "Update for ZCM (10.3.3) Update Completed"
So when I reassign the update to 10.3.3 the that workstation it immediatelly jumps to "successful".
How can I redeploy the udpate? Only with the Agent Cleanup Utility?

it means your update should have reached status "baselined", which is the final position - if you do a deployment by stages, it automatically moves to the "all devices" stage when the other stages have been passed. The other way is to do "deploy to all devices"; obviously you don't want to do that if there are devices you're not ready to upgrade...

it says "Baselined: The update has been assigned to the /Devices folder, meaning that all new devices added to the Management Zone automatically get the update, unless they are already at that update level. When an update is baselined, any packages (MSIs and RPMs) that were updated by the system update have been deleted and replaced with the new packages. A baselined update is considered complete; although, individual devices could have been ignored.
In previous versions of ZENworks Configuration Management, when an update was baselined, the ZENworks Agent packages on all ZENworks Servers were rebuilt with the latest software. In this version, however, the agent packages are rebuilt during the upgrade process of each individual Server."

The update for ZCM (10.2.2) status is "canceling" - is has been like this for a week now.
Is there a way of stopping this and restarting the process as this update hasn't been downloaded or deployed yet?
