ZCM Agent 11SP3 Cleanup tool

Hi,
I am having some issues with ZCM 11SP3 Agent uninstall as this leaves folders behind. So I try the Agent Clean up tool 11.2.5 but it fails and seem not supported any more.
Does anyone know if there is a new version of clean-up tool for ZCM11SP3 and later.
Thanks in advance
Regards,
Kuru

Make sure you remove CASA as well.
I'm not sure if the tool removes CASA by default.
This can cause logon issues.

  • Agent Cleanup Tool fails

    Hi.
A customer wanted a way to force off agents if any upgrade to 11.3.1 fails, and they need to send out a techician.
Used to have an old version with the cleanup tool to send with yhem, with a batch-file with all prepped.
Download the latest version, but I cant get it going...
Tried on different machines, but it falies every time.
Starting tool manually to set all settings.
Ticks "Uninstall ZENworks Agent". Unticks Vanish (want to have it on an USB).
Creates a key and password in ZCC via KeyGenerator and puts that in the feilds for "Support Key Information".
Thats it. Creates batchfile, and runs it "as administrator".
Firs twi steps works fine, ZFDE and LocationAwareness/ZESM. Both completed.
So for ZAA. Running very long time (10-15 minutes) and the reports FAILED.
In the log, the last line says:
08-27-2014 16:37:24.721: Command Timed out without returning an ExitCode
08-27-2014 16:37:25.205: In 'ZENworksCleanupTool' Returning '1460' from Executing Command F:\ZENworksCleanupToolPkg\AgentCleanup.exe -skipZU -silent -casa -restoregina -logpath="F:\ZENworksCleanupToolPkg\Logs\zcmRemoval .log"
The result is, efter reboot that there still is a line in Add/Remove Program that says "ZenWorks". It seems to be half uninstalled. There is now no way to uninstall that way.
A new version of the agent cant be installed either, because it thinks its already installed... The only way to get around is to re-image the machine. And that is what I did NOT want...
    Am I doing something wrong?
    /Stefan

I would recommend an SR if the tool if failing so that can be fixed.
Alternately, I have often been able to generate a list of installed MSIs
and just run "msiexec /x {guid}" of all the MSIs that are ZCM related.
The msiexec trick will not work if "Agent Self Defense" is enabled and
may or may not work otherwise.
Even after using msiexec, there may still need to be some file and reg
cleanup in obvious locations such as %zenworks_home% and the HKLM\Novell
    folders.

  • ZCM Agent uninstall ask for password

    Hello,
It appears that since we upgraded ZCM 11 to SP1 it is not possible to uninstall ZCM Agent anymore without an error (with the cleanup tool or the standard way to uninstall).
ZESM always ask for a password. The fact is that there is no password policy in the Zone..
    What's wrong?
    Thanks in advance.

This was a bug in the core uninstall fixed in 11.1a following the reboot. In the forthcoming SP2, there will be a zone wide agent setting that controls the uninstall password (and agent self defense) regardless of the ZESM license or enable/disable state.

  • User cannot log into ZCM Agent 11.3.1

We just went through a domain migration. All PCs were unregistered from the old ZCM 11.2 server in the old domain before they were migrated. When we went to re-register them to the 11.3.1 ZCM server, we ran into 2 issues. Some of the systems successfully upgraded to 11.3.1 BUT users cannot log onto the ZCM 11.3.1 Agent. It's giving an error of "unable to log into the network because the login credentials or the server certificate is incorrect". The PCs that didn't not upgraded to ZCM 11.3.1 and are running 11.2.0 do not have this problem. They get authenticated appropriately. The User configuration is set to eDirectory (just like on the ZCM 11.2 server in the old domain).
I ran "zac ci" and noticed there are old certificates from ZENworks servers that are no longer around. How do you get rid of these old references? It's picking up the new server's certificates. I ran this on my PC ZCM Agent 11.2 (won't upgrade and can authenticate into the ZCM 11.2 agent just fine) and I do not see the old certificates. I'm only seeing certificates for the new ZCM 11.3.1 server in the new domain and the eDirectory master server that the ZCM server is referencing.

The old Trusts can be cleared using IE to managed the Trusted Root
Stores. There are some other ways too.
However, Having old ones should not be an issue unless the old and new
Servers have the same name. Not 100% sure matching will cause an issue,
but I think I have seen that before.
It may be possible to automate the removal of the old trusts, but I
would not worry about that until you verify it is an issue by manually
fixing a couple and see if resolves your issue.
Your issue may be something else.
Reinstalling CASA is something else to try.

  • Opinions... desktop image with or without ZCM agent?

I'm working on deploying ZCM 10 to my company and was wondering what your opinions are on deployment method for newly ghosted computers (I'm going to use a deploy task for all existing computers). What are the pros/cons of installing the Zen Agent with the ghost image prior to sysprep (we still use ghost for imaging by the way...) versus scripting the install of the agent after the desktop is imaged and entered into the domain?
I've seen some posts in the forums with people having problems with duplicate GUIDS. I imagine that you have to take some precautions if you install the agent prior to sysprepping the image to avoid this kind of problem.
The benefit to manully installing or scripting the install after the computer is entered in the domain is you can easily update the agent with the latest version without needing to modify your image.
Right now our image has the ZFD7 agent pre-installed, but of course that agent is old and has not changed in quite a while. I'm inclined to script the install of the agent instead of including it in the image, but I'd love to hear other opinions or methods.
    Thanks!

The bit to install the ZCM agent is quite straight forward utilizing the REG ADD command, this keeps the screen nice and tidy and only presents a small dialog screen without logging into the desktop.
Just put something similar in your batch +other things you wish to do and run that as (one of the) post sysprep actions.
    Code:
    REM ZCM 10 agent
    REG ADD %KEY%\02-160 /VE /D "Installing ZCM agent..." /f
    REG ADD %KEY%\02-160 /V 01 /D "C:\Install\ZCM10\PreAgentPkg_Agent.exe -q" /f
REM ADDING A TIMED PAUSE USING DELAY.EXE TO LET THE ZCM AGENT INSTALL AND REBOOT
REG ADD %KEY%\02-161 /VE /D "Wating for ZCM agent install to complete.." /f
    REG ADD %KEY%\02-161 /V 01 /D "C:\Install\delayit test.exe 20000" /f
Where did you get the the delay.exe that you are using from? btw, the script says "delayit text.exe" is that a typo? just wondering, thanks.

  • Windows 7 Imaging with ZCM Agent installed

Has anyone successfully made a Windows 7 image with the ZCM agent already installed on the base image?
I am trying to get the unattended setup to login once to but the workstation prompts for the ZCM login information?
    Any suggestions?

    Yes
You have to disable the zcm logon prompt, then run a reghack to enable zcm logon as your last step after the first auto logon.

  • Login intermittently slow with ZCM agent AND Novell client

We continue to struggle with intermittently slow logins in our environment. In testing, we noticed that logins are very fast (10-20 seconds) when only the Novell Client is installed, and very fast (~10 seconds) when only the ZCM agent is installed. However, when they are both installed, logins slow down, sometimes to 1.5 minutes or longer.
We have checked DNS and rDNS, and they are both configured properly. SLP is working properly as demonstrated by the fast logins when only the client is installed. We use LDAP for user lookup, and it also works very fast to resolve user names (~ 1 second).
We are using ZCM 10.3.1, and the client is fully patched as well (both Novell Client 2 and 4.91)
Are there any specific settings (for the ZCM agent or the client itself) that might address this issue?

My apologies, I told you to remove the wrong thing.
I should have said NMAS instead of CASA.
I am just so used to saying CASA when talking about ZCM.
In regards to NMAS, you could simply rename "NWSSO.DLL" as a test.
If NMAS is installed which is tested by the existence of this DLL, then
a certain NMAS call is always made, which in some cases can take a long
    time.

Kappy's Personal Suggestions About Mac Maintenance
For disk repairs use Disk Utility.  For situations DU cannot handle the best third-party utility is: Disk Warrior;  DW only fixes problems with the disk directory, but most disk problems are caused by directory corruption. Drive Genius provides additional tools not found in Disk Warrior for defragmentation of older drives, disk repair, disk scans, formatting, partitioning, disk copy, and benchmarking.
Four outstanding sources of information on Mac maintenance are:
    1. OS X Maintenance - MacAttorney.
    2. Mac maintenance Quick Assist
    3. Maintaining Mac OS X
    4. Mac Maintenance Guide
    Periodic Maintenance
OS X performs certain maintenance functions that are scheduled to occur on a daily, weekly, or monthly period. The maintenance scripts run in the early AM only if the computer is turned on 24/7 (no sleep.) See Mac OS X- About background maintenance tasks. If you are running Leopard or later these tasks are run automatically, so there is no need to use any third-party software to force running these tasks.
If you are using a pre-Leopard version of OS X, then an excellent solution is to download and install a shareware utility such as Macaroni, JAW PseudoAnacron, or Anacron that will automate the maintenance activity regardless of whether the computer is turned off or asleep.  Dependence upon third-party utilities to run the periodic maintenance scripts was significantly reduced after Tiger.  (These utilities have limited or no functionality with Snow Leopard, Lion, or Mountain Lion and should not be installed.)
    Defragmentation
OS X automatically defragments files less than 20 MBs in size, so unless you have a disk full of very large files there's little need for defragmenting the hard drive except when trying to install Boot Camp on a fragmented drive. Malware Protection
As for malware protection there are few if any such animals affecting OS X. Starting with Lion, Apple has included built-in malware protection that is automatically updated as necessary. To assure proper protection, update your system software when Apple releases new OS X updates for your computer.
    Helpful Links Regarding Malware Protection:
    1. Mac Malware Guide.
    2. Detecting and avoiding malware and spyware
    3. Macintosh Virus Guide
For general anti-virus protection I recommend only using ClamXav, but it is not necessary if you are keeping your computer's operating system software up to date. You should avoid any other third-party software advertised as providing anti-malware/virus protection. They are not required and could cause the performance of your computer to drop.
    Cache Clearing
I recommend downloading a utility such as TinkerTool System, OnyX 2.4.3, Mountain Lion Cache Cleaner 7.0.9, Maintenance 1.6.8, or Cocktail 5.1.1 that you can use for periodic maintenance such as removing old log files and archives, clearing caches, etc. Corrupted cache files can cause slowness, kernel panics, and other issues. Although this is not a frequent nor a recurring problem, when it does happen there are tools such as those above to fix the problem.
If you are using Snow Leopard or earlier, then for emergency cleaning install the freeware utility Applejack.  If you cannot start up in OS X, you may be able to start in single-user mode from which you can run Applejack to do a whole set of repair and maintenance routines from the command line.  Note that AppleJack 1.5 is required for Leopard. AppleJack 1.6 is compatible with Snow Leopard. (AppleJack works with Snow Leopard or earlier.)
    Installing System Updates or Upgrades
Repair the hard drive and permissions beforehand.
Update your backups in case an update goes bad.
    Backup and Restore
Having a backup and restore strategy is one of the most important things you can do to maintain your computer. Get an external Firewire drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. You can never have too many backups. Don't rely on just one. Make several using different backup utilities. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
         1. Carbon Copy Cloner
         2. Get Backup
         3. Deja Vu
         4. SuperDuper!
         5. Synk Pro
         6. Tri-Backup
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQs on maintenance and backup and restore.
Always have a current backup before performing any system updates or upgrades.
    Final Suggestions
Be sure you have an adequate amount of RAM installed for the number of applications you run concurrently. Be sure you leave a minimum of 10% of the hard drive's capacity or 20 GBs, whichever is greater, as free space. Avoid installing utilities that rely on Haxies, SIMBL, or that alter the OS appearance, add features you will rarely if ever need, etc. The more extras you install the greater the probability of having problems. If you install software be sure you know how to uninstall it. Avoid installing multiple new software at the same time. Install one at a time and use it for a while to be sure it's compatible.

  • Changing the lokal Grouppolicy after installing ZCM Agent

Befor installing the ZCM Agent, we configure the lokal grouppolicy with some settings.
These settings will be applied even if the ZCM Agent will be installed to the machine.
But how can I change settings in these grouppolicys afterwards (without overwriting the settings in a ZCM managed grouppolicy)?
Where are they stored and how can I deliver new settings to this set?

    Frank,
i deploy LGPOs via Bundle 'Text File' action and apply_lgpo_delta.exe. You could also use importregpol.exe with the .pol Files.

    Hi Shaun
    Thanks For your great reply.
I find a troubleshooting section in ZCM installation Guide , about "Unable to install NetIdentity from Novell Client 32 on a device that has ZENworks installed", the section was be record from 10.1 to 11.1. The Netidentity has a Install-Check action for checking Whether Local_Machine\Software\zenworks exist or not....but ZCM 10.3 or later use Local_Machine\Software\ZCM, not useing "zenworks", so Netidentity could install evenif ZCM agent installed.
I know ZDM agent has some issue with Netidenty...but I do know why ZCM installation still record it....even ZCM11.1 installation Guide. Could you help me clear whether Netidentity agent will effect ZCM Agent or not ?? Because I could not find any document that could provide any message it will effect "ZCM" function

  • ZCM Agent Inventory Scan - Patterns for Software Recognition

    Hey Everyone,
Is is possible to find out which patterns the Inventory Scan uses to determine the installed Software products? (are there any local files on the agent-side with information what to look for?)
For some reason the Microsoft Office 2010 Professional Plus Installations wont be found any longer and I so far I cant figure out why this is happening (actually a few Office 2003 Products are shown, even on freshly installed Win7 Devices which have never seen any office Installation besides 2010)
Perhabs this might be related to the Office 2003 Compatibility Pack. This one was installed accidentally and I removed it via an uninstall bundle. Seemed to work fine, but ever since then Office 2010 wont be found within the inventory.
To test this behaviour I installed a clean win7 + Office 2010 + ZCM Agent. In this case Office 2010 is found.

  • UPGRADING TO ZCM AGENT 10.3.3 CAUSING BLUE SCREENS....

We are having alot of issues upgrading to ZCM agent 10.3 from older agents 10.22 and 10.3.0 . Users are getting multiple issues mostly Blue screens when they try logging in, and some are getting prompted for the zenworks login, which I'm asumming is a CASA related issue. The Blue screens are killing me and the users are angry..
Has anyone seen this? Any pattern's fixes? .NET related?
    Thanks,

I'd recommend an SR for the Blue Screens.
