ZCM11 SP2 Beta 1 - 32- vs 64-bit Mac agent

So I have an iMac (4,1) running Snow Leopard.
I tried installing the 32-bit Mac agent and it complained
Package intended for 32 bit architecture
Exiting with error code 237.
so I installed the 64-bit agent - it was happy.
I then logged out and back in to activate the agent but it isn't happy -
I get a ZENworks Adaptive Agent dialog popup with the error "Cannot load
64-bit SWT libraries on 32-bit JVM".
$ java -version
java version "1.6.0_26"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_26-b03-384-10M3425)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 20.1-b02-384, mixed mode)

System Software Overview in System Profiler has No recorded against
64-bit Kernel and Extensions.
So yes Java is 32-bit but so is Mac OS X.
Q1) How can I uninstall the (64-bit) Mac agent?
Q2) Should I be installing the 32- or 64-bit Mac agent?
I'm thinking I should be installing the 32-bit Mac agent so
Q3) How can I install the 32-bit Mac agent?
Thanks.

    Hi,
The name the OSX host comes into the zone as is not it's hostname. It's it's DNS resolved name. This isn't consistent behaviour with the windows agents.
    This is completely default configuration with Configuration>Device Management>Registration>Device Naming Template>${HostName}
This is quite a big problem...

  • SCOM 2007 server OS upgrade from 32 bit Win 2003 SP2 to Win 2008 R2 64 bit

    Dear Experts,
We are planning to upgrade where in SCOM 2007 R2 presents on 32 bit Virtual Machine Win 2003 SP2 to Win 2008 R2 32 bit or 64 bit. Though OpsManager Database is already upgraded to SQL 2008 R2 from SQL 2005. So No pblm with DB upgradation.
So my point is If I go ahead to upgrade from Win 2003 (SCOM 2007 R2 resides) to Win 2008 R2 does it create any impacts on SCOM 2007 R2 environment ? Please let me know the procedure for this or any documentation is available to complete this.
    Thanks in advanced!
    Saravana Raja

    Firstly,
Please note that you can only upgrade an OS to the same architecture (i.e. from x86 to x86, and not to x64). See the following Support Article about supported upgrade paths for Windows Server 2003: https://support.microsoft.com/kb/951041?wa=wsignin1.0.
Therefore, if you plan to upgrade to a x64 architecture, you will need to perform a new installation, and not an in-place upgrade. If you are going that route, I'd suggest skipping Windows Server 2008 R2, and try to push to Windows Server 2012 if not Windows
Server 2012 R2; to more future-proof your environment.
Further, If you are going to perform a new OS installation (to move into x64 architecture), why not also utilize the "new installation" requirement in that scenario to also upgrade to System Center 2012 R2 Operations Manager?
The base scenario would be for you to perform an in-place upgrade of Windows Server 2003 x86 to Windows Server 2008 R2 x86. Except, there is no x86 version of Windows Server 2008 R2, only x64! Note: Windows Server 2008 (without the 'R2') has an x86 option.

  • Does Java 7 run on only x64 bit MAC OS X?

I want to deliver self-contained application packages on Windows, Linux and Mac so I have build my JavaFX application on all three platforms. I will allow my users to download these native bundles from my application's download web page but I have a confusion regarding MAC users because For Linux and Windows, JDK/JRE 7 comes in two download options
    1. for x86
    2. for x64.
but for MAC we have only option for x64.
Java Download Page shows Java/Jre is not available for 32 bit MAC OSX to run JavaFX application. Does it mean JavaFX will run on only x64 bit MAC OSX?
If it is so, then my issue has been solved, as I have already bundled my Javafx application as a "Self-Contained Application Packages" after run custom build.xml script on x64 MAC OSX but if it is not so, the user can also run JavaFX application on x86 MAC OSX but in that case my "Self-Contained Application Packages" for mac would not run on x86 MAC OSX.
So I am planning to give an additional zip file that either contains app (without copy of jre) or a plain self executable jar. But I'm bit worried regrading - what exactly I need to bundle into that zip file with self executable JAR so requirements must be met to be able to run my JavaFX application in following conditions?
    conditions are : -
    1. If user has x86 MAC OSX.
    2. If java is already installed on user's system. And he would not like to download the "Self-Contained Application Packages" from our download page.
    3. Big download size.
So what among the following two options suits if user have x86 MAC OSX or if he has already installed java on his system or he would not like to download "Self-Contained Application Packages" from download page due to big download size?
    Option are -
    1. APP ( without inbuilt copy of JRE)
    2. Or only a self executable jar.
I am not sure that Mac OS X 10.7.3 (Lion) or later version can run on x86 system. So in case of #1 option the user may have trouble if he is using x86 system. Then he may need to change info plist file and replace the JavaAplicationStub.
In case of #2 option I think is better as the user need to download the JRE only and the JAR should run using "java -jar" command.
Please suggest which option is better in case if JavaFX application can run on x86 bit MAC OS X?

JavaFX will run on only x64 bit MAC OSX?Yes. There is no 32 bit JavaFX 2.x+ build for OS X.

  • How to run a 32-bit plugin on 64-bit Mac in PS CS5?

    Hi...
I have developed an automation plugin for PS CS 3,4 & 5 using CS4 SDK in 32-bit Mac processor.
Problem with this is that the plugin works for CS5 in 32-bit mode, but the plugin doesn't load when tried with CS5 on 64-bit mode. I made changes in the PiPL, but still no change. I referred the steps mentioned in the documentation for creating a 64-bit plugin, but in the "Step 3: Fix entry point and PiPL", it says that the entry point needs to be changed. But, the entry point mentioned is different from the Automation plugin entry-point. Can you please suggest a way to overcome this problem?

  • How to run 32-bit PS plugin on CS5 in 64-bit Mac processor?

    Hi...
I have developed an automation plugin for PS CS 3,4 & 5 using CS4 SDK in 32-bit Mac processor. I wanted to have a single build for all the three versions. I am unable to run my plugin on CS3, it loads, but no dialog comes up on clicking the menu item. I have used ADM suites for the dialog. I am unable to spot a solution, please guide me...
Also, another problem with this is that the plugin works for CS5 in 32-bit mode, but the plugin doesn't load when tried with CS5 on 64-bit mode. I made changes in the PiPL, but still no change. Update on the plugin compatibility with CS3.. It looked like an ADM compatibility issue.. I changed some suites versions.. Now, I am able to display the dialog, but now I have spotted a bigger problem.. that is, that the plugin aborts when it encounters an "sSPBasic->AcquireSuite" statement. I can't see why.. The error code is 1394689636 which points to "S!FD", i.e., Suite not found.. How can this be? Please guide... Its urgent..
    Thanks..!

the 2 64 bit macs will not print in landscape only from photoshop cs4
i can print from indesign in landscape and illustrator in landscape.
somewhere i read that i could remove the preferences file and that would maybe fix it.
    that did nothing.
i have tried a variety of different files and sizes.
my design artists are specialized in photoshop and it was working up to about 2 weeks ago.
nothing has changed in this time.
so i am wondering what could cause this.

  • 10.2.0.4 version of x86_64 bit linux agent?

I am finding 10.2.0.4 patches for agent bugs but I don't find the 10.2.0.4 version of the 64 bit linux agent. Is it there somewhere and I am missing it? If you know how to get it, please send the url.
    thanks.

This link is for 10.2.0.4 x86 Grid Control/agents, not for the agent on x86_64. I already have 10.2.0.4 Grid Control installed. I am looking for a patch to upgrade a 10.2.0.3 agent on x86_64 to 10.2.0.4, or, a standalone release of a 10.2.0.4 agent to run on x86_64. And besides all of that, I want one that officially supports RH5!

  • Running 32-bit windows via Parallel desktop in 64-bit Mac OSX?

Hi all. I am thinking about running 32-bit version of windows XP in the Parallel Desktop 9, while the macbook itself runs 64-bit Mac OS X Mavericks. Please tell me what you think and what you know about this. Thank you in advance.

You can run any operating system supported by Parallels in Parallels. Go to the Parallels site to see what operating systems are supported. I believe XP is supported. Whether your Mac is 64 bit or 32 bit has no bearing on what you want to do.

  • 64-bit Mac app, would use less memory

Spotify is the last 32-bit app on my Mac.
That means when it's launched (which is all the time), OS X has to load all the system frameworks into memory a second time, but now the 32-bit versions of them, next to the 64-bit versions already there. Just to accommodate Spotify. (source: https://developer.apple.com/library/mac/documentation/Darwin/Conceptual/64bitPorting/indications/indications.html)
As such, Spotify invisibly takes up way more memory than what it actually needs to run.
I can understand the need for Spotify to be backwards compatible with 5+ years old Mac hardware in use as media players and such, but that can be accommodated with a fat binary, including both 32-bit and 64-bit code.
In 2013, it is a bit strange that lots of Mac users of Spotify have to pay this memory burden of the past, while where is an elegant solution available in the form of fat binaries.
    Another thread about this subject:
    http://community.spotify.com/t5/Help-Desktop-Linux-Mac-and/No-64-bit-Mac-version/m-p/85001

    Hi, OP here.
Focusing on the quality of the desktop app after improving the looks is a good idea, but it is a very strange argument for marking this idea as "Not Right Now", because this idea is all about the fundamental quality of the Mac desktop app.
I guess the staff monitoring here aren't really the technical folks responsible for these decisions, or they are more knowledgeable about the Windows or Linux platforms as opposed to OS X, but let me point out the relevant bits from the documentation I linked to earlier:
Similarly, in v10.6 and later, the first non-64-bit-capable application pays a performance and memory footprint penalty because OS X must bring in the entire 32-bit framework stack. Thus, if you are primarily targeting OS X v10.6 and later, you should be 64-bit if at all possible.
A 64-bit app can consume significantly more memory than a 32-bit app. For this reason, it is tempting to continue to ship 32-bit apps. However, this is usually not the right thing to do.
In OS X v10.6 and later, most built-in apps are 64-bit. The first time you run a 32-bit application, all of the 32-bit framework slices must be loaded into memory. This means that loading older, 32-bit-only applications causes significant memory pressure, particularly on computers with limited RAM. This often outweighs the additional memory impact caused by larger data structures.
This has been the case since 10.6 was released well over 5 years ago.
Now, the probable reason Spotify has been delaying this is their use of the Chromium Embedded Framework, which has been 32-bit only for a  long time. In August 2013 however they introduced 64-bit builds for Windows and Mac OS X with version 3.1547.1412.
So it seems there shouldn't be any bariers anymore for Spotify to release a 64-bit capable update for the Mac client. Please do so!
Google says this about the benefits of using 64-bits Chromium, which would also apply to Spotify:
64-bit Chrome has become faster as a result of having access to a superior instruction set, more registers, and a more efficient function calling convention. Improved opportunities for ASLR enhance this version’s security. Another major benefit of this change comes from the fact that most programs on a modern Mac are already 64-bit apps. In cases where Chrome was the last remaining 32-bit app, there were launch-time and memory-footprint penalties as 32-bit copies of all of the system libraries needed to be loaded to support Chrome. Now that Chrome’s a 64-bit app too, we expect you’ll find that it launches more quickly and that overall system memory use decreases.
Now, for everyones enjoyment and inspiration, a pretty picture of a rather large cat:
