Zdm65sp2(ir1) on netware 6.5 sp6 ?

is the zdm65sp2 and ir1 release officially supported on nw65sp6 ?
i couldn't find any updated info on the zen65 documentation page at
http://www.novell.com/documentation/...a/bqxn7w2.html
thanks in advance.
gabriel

AFAIK, there are not any known issues.
There may be some imaging issue revolving around WINSOCK which could cause
abends in DTS.NLM.
Not everyone sees this and it's more of a NetWare than ZEN issue. The
latest beta Winsock patches may help.

  • Obtaining NetWare 6.5 SP6 Overlay (?) CDs

I need to upgrade sever OES/NetWare 6.5 SP5 servers to SP6 in the documented two-part upgrade to SP8. My ultimate goal is to migrate these servers, then, to OES2 SP3 under Linux. The Migration Tool docs indicate NW SP8 as a minimum platform. Problem is: A search for NetWare 6.5 SP6 on Novell's download site finds only a handful of iManager plug-ins -- no product media. Two questions: Are these ISOs available -- and where? And do I need overlays or ZIPped upgrade file?

    From http://wiki.novell.com/index.php/Nw65sp8:
"If you need to install a new server with eDir 8.7, then boot from NW65SP8 Overlay CDs or DVD. When prompted to press any key to interupt the boot process, do so. Press "p" and specify this parameter (including the squared brackets):
    [INST:spedir]
Press ENTER, then "i" to proceed with the installation as usual. This will give you eDir 8.7.3.10, instead of 8.8.4."

  • Volume dismounting Netware 6.5 sp6

When ever we run gwava reload to backup the postoffice on our netware volume, the volume dismounts... This has started to occur lately, we didnt have any issue before..

Not without a decent backup as depending on the disk-volume mappings,
the disk activity from installing SP8 could cause the problem to appear
(but then so could taking a backup!).
Basically underlying cause first needs identifying and then resolving
    depending on what it is.

  • Some jobs fail BackupExec, Ultrium 215 drive, NW6.5 SP6

The OS is Netware 6.5 SP6.
The server is a HP Proliant DL-380 G4.
The drive is a HP StorageWorks Ultrium LTO-1 215 100/200GB drive.
The drive is connected to a HP PCI-X Single Channel U320 SCSI HBA, which I recently installed, in order to solve slow transfer speeds, and to solve CPQRAID errors which stalled the server during bootup (it was complaining to have a non-disk drive on the internal controller).
Backup Exec Administrative Console is version 9.10 revision 1158, I am assuming that this means that BE itself has this version number.
Since our data is now more than the tape capacity I have recently started running two jobs interleaved, to backup (around) half of the data at night. One which runs Monday, Wednesday and Friday and one which runs Tuesday and Thursday.
My problem is that while the Tue/Thu job completes succesfully every time, the Mon/Wed/Thu job fails every time.
The jobs have identical policies (except for the interleaved weekdays), but different file selections.
The job log of the Mon/Wed/Thu job fails with this error:
    ##ERR##Error on HA:1 ID:4 LUN:0 HP ULTRIUM 1-SCSI.
##ERR##A hardware error has been detected during this operation. This
##ERR##media should not be used for any additional backup operations.
##ERR##Data written to this media prior to the error may still be
    ##ERR##restored.
##ERR##SCSI bus timeouts can be caused by a media drive that needs
##ERR##cleaning, a SCSI bus that is too long, incorrect SCSI
##ERR##termination, or a faulty device. If the drive has been working
##ERR##properly, clean the drive or replace the media and retry the
    ##ERR##operation.

I am suspecting the new controller, or perhaps a broken drive?
I have run multiple cleaning jobs on the drive with new cleaning tapes. The cabling is secured in place.
I have looked for firmware updates, but even though theres a mentioning of a new firmware on hp's site (see http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport...odTypeId=12169), I can't find the firmware for netware HP LTT (the drive diagnosis / update tool).
I'm hoping someone can provide me some useful info towards solving this problem.
    Regards,
    Tor

My suggestion to you is to probably just give up on fixing this. I
have the same DL380, but a slightly newer drive(Ultrium 448). After
working with HP, Adaptec, & Symantec for over a year I gave up. I've
tried different cards (HP-LSI, Adaptec) , cables, and even swapped the
drive twice with HP but was never able to get it to work.
In the end I purchased a new server, moved the card and tape drive,
and cables all over to the new server and the hardware has been
working fine in the new box for the last year or so. Until I loaded l
    SP8 the other day.
My guess is that the PCI-X slot used for these cards isn't happy with
    the server hardware.

  • Inventory for Netware Servers

    Hi,
in our Novell Network we have installed ZEN for Desktops and ZEN Asset
Management. The Inventory for tehe Workstations and Windows Servers work
fine. Is there an Option (nlm)to inventory the Netware (6.5 SP6) Servers in
    the Asset Mangement ?

    OK:
So it appears that the only way to add Netware servers is under Network Scan and using SNMP?

  • NFS/SMB mount solution, Netware to Linkstation

We have a remote office with small backups to do on a daily/weekly basis and they are using a Buffalo Linkstation live to do them. They do this from an XP/Pro workstation. Essentially they have the Netware volume they wish to back up mounted as a share on the workstation. The Buffalo Linkstation drive is connected to the local switch with a static IP. They mount (windows, e.g. \\linkstation\backup) the drive and then use xcopy to back up the files of interest.
I would like to be able to do this on the server as a scheduled task. Is there a practical way to initiate an NFS or SMB mount and then use bash scripting to backup?
We are talking Netware 6.5 SP6. (OES Linux soon, but not quite soon enough.)

If Linkstation 'exports' its drive as an NFS volume, then you could use
    NFS Gateway
    (http://www.novell.com/products/netwa...quicklook.html) to mount
it so it appears as a local volume; this is my impression from the way
your question was worded but I don't think this is what you really want?
    I think
    http://www.novell.com/documentation/...s.html#unx-nfs is
what you're looking for instead: exporting a NetWare volume as NFS/SAMBA?

    (NOVELL: Downloads - eDirectory 8.8 SP5 Patch5 for NetWare)
As the likely last eDirectory patch for NetWare (8.8 SP6 will not be available for NetWare) I think this is a mistake - good spot!
I also note that it's not listed in the Patch Finder under NetWare 6.5 SP* - in fact it's a bit random as to whether earlier eDirectory patches are listed under NetWare versions.
If no-one picks this up in the next couple of days I'll flag it via my backline contacts.

  • Confused about Middle Tier Version

Could someone clarify the version of NCPL.NLM that should be running when
using the Middle Tier function of Zenworks 6.5: ZEN6.5 SP2 IR1.. Should
you always have the NetWare SP version regardless or do you want to stick
with the latest ZENworks provided version? Here is why I am confused:
    NCPL.NLM from NetWare 6.5 SP6 - June 19, 2006
    NCPL.NLM from ZFD 6.5SP2 - July 21, 2005
    NCPL.NLM from ZFD6.5SP2IR1 - May 22, 2006
    NCPL.NLM from NetWare 6.5 SP7 - Not sure, still downloading - interested
to see the version included here.
We have a NW6.5 SP6 server, currently getting abends (NcplSysThread shows
up with a spinlock abend)... Server currently has the NCPL.NLM dated May
    22, 2006.

  • Extracting doc number information from dox saved in DMS

    Hello,
I'm wanting to have a macro written that will put a document id into the
footer of saved documents when the appropriate button is pushed.
    I know I can use the standard Word "Insert | Autotext | Header/Footer |
Filename or Filename and path but when I do that, I get something like
    this:
    ::ODMAGRPWISEDOMAIN_AUS_DOM.POSTOFFICE_AUS_PO.Offi ce Administration:9055.1
whereas the powers-that-be want something like this:
    OA:9055.1
and nothing else. (The "OA" bit is the short version of Office
    Administration)
I have a developer who thinks he may be able to pull this together, but he
    has posed this question:
Is there a way to retrieve the profile information from Groupwise for a
document that is currently open on screen?
    Using GW7, SP2 on NetWare 6.5, SP6.
    TIA,
    Catherine

I think if you insert the filename with the option to include the path name,
you will get the ODMA string with the doc number at the end (assuming the
document has been saved and already has been assigned a doc number). Can
you parse that somehow? I did this a long time ago in WP but not Word.
Seems to me you should be able to record a macro to do that.

  • Error message on inventory server

    Hi!
We get a error message on the Sybase Inventory server after a while that
    only says "Bad file number".
The inventory database has stopped and the only way to restart it is to
    restart the server completly first.
    Any help why this happens?
The OS is Netware 5.1 SP6 and Zenworks 4.01 IR5.
    Regards
    Leif

Here is the complete error message, on the Sybase inventory database screen:
    Fatal error: Bad file number
<Press any key to close screen>
It isn't possible to start the db server with mgmtdbs.ncf again.
Other errors are coming after that. Only a reboot of the server helps.

  • Small Business Network Switch Freezes Intermittently

    Background:
I am managing a small Novell NetWare environment that consists of: (2) Netware 6.5 SP6 boxes, (7) Windows XP SP3 workstations, and (2) network printers. These devices are all connected to a basic, unmanaged, 10/100/1000 Mbps switch (Netgear JGS524).
    The Issue:
Unexpectedly, all devices on the Network will randomly lose connectivity at the same time (no pings go thru to/from any device), and the lights on the front of the switch "freeze" in their current state (for example, if I pull a network cable out of a switch port, it will remain illuminated in its last state, as if the cable were still plugged in). The only way to restore connectivity at this point is to reset the switch by cycling the power on/off.
    Troubleshooting History:
We've been experiencing this problem for quite some time, and at first I assumed the switch was bad, so I replaced it with a different model only to find that the issue still occurs (the switch listed above is the current model we're using).
I'm having trouble diagnosing this problem, as I can't seem to correlate what's happening on the network to initiate the switch lock-up. Sometimes it will happen twice in one day, and sometimes it will go 3 or 4 days with no problems. It would be hard to leave a packet scan running for 3 days and then try to determine at what time the lockup occurred if Im not continually observing the switch 24/7.
Anyway, any thoughts on a good approach to narrowing down what's causing this? Or any obvious culprits that might exist in a Netware environment that could be causing a broadcast storm?
    Thanks!
    Joe

When you say you've replaced the switch with a different model...what did you mean by that? A different vendor or same vendor just different model of the same?
I'd probably try a different switch altogether...but what are you running on the Netware boxes? Most services on Netware have pretty good log files. I would start with that. Also, you can get yourself a pretty easy to set up (free) network monitoring system and sue that for diagnosis.

  • SLP randomly not working

We are using DHCP to hand out SLP information at my school district. Here
is our current setup w/regards to SLP:
    2 SLP DAs
SLP Container object is directly underneath the organization and is its
    own partition
Both DAs hold R/W replicas of the SLP partition
SLP.CFG on every server in the district points to these two DAS
SLP.CFG on the two DAs point to eachother, but not themselves
SLPDA eDir objects are inside the SLP container, along with our scope
    'SLP_SCOPE'
DHCP configured with options 78 and 79 to hand out the IPs of the two DAs
and the name of the scope
About 75 Netware 6.5 SP6 servers spread over a school district roughly the
    size of West Virginia
SLP discovery options on the SA servers is set to 12
As for the problem...it only started recently (past few weeks) and as far
as I know we didn't make any major changes. Most people in the district
get their SLP just fine. But every now and then, on random computers we
get error messages that some login script program couldn't run, only to
find out that our script said 'run some program from
\serverNamedataprog.exe' and the client couldn't resolve the server name.
Typing 'slpinfo /d' on the client reveals that they have no DAs listed.
Restarting or release/renew of their IP fixes its most of the time. Some
times we have to restart multiple times. The computers with this problem
are all different models, different versions of the Novell Client, and at
different geographical sites. Also, entering in the slp scope name and DA
addresses in the client fixes the problem immediately.
The other odd thing with SLP that may/may not be related is that we
recently (4 months ago) changed our partitions around (we used to have one
partition for every school (40+), now we have 10 with schools grouped
geographically in them). But when I look at the SLP services listed under
SLP_SCOPE in ConsoleOne, there are ndap_novell services listed for all the
old school partitions. I've tried deleting them, but they reappear.
Timesync is running perfectly, none out in a long time. Replicas are
syncing fine, a few can lag by about 20 minutes (but not the SLP
partition). DSExpert claims everything is fine (although I don't believe
it when it says everything is wrong either...). Is there a way to figure
out how these old partitions are re-registering themselves? Also, every
server has been checked for external reference errors and obits, all clean.
Whew...if you've made it this far, thanks for reading and hopefully
someone knows much much more than me about SLP.
    Thanks,
    -Bill

The DHCP requests to get SLP information are done by the client. Therefore
it is important that the SLP configuration in the client is such that it
    actually uses DHCP

You should check the details of the "rogue" NDAP entries. They should
include the IP address of the machine advertising these services and you
will know why they are still there.

SonicWall. Now I can install Client32 3.30sp3 or 3.40 but neither
of them can find any servers or trees now. Since 3.30sp3 seems to
work well here I have settled on troubleshooting this version.
I have removed all hardware, clients, protocols, & services from
network neighborhood. Have run a registry repair utility, and
reinstalled NIC drivers & Client32 3.30sp3 IPX Only. Still cannot
    find any servers or trees.
    What works:
MS Client for Microsoft w/TCP/IP for peer-to-peer & internet
MS Client for Netware w/IPX for bindery, works but is useless for
    us (need NDS)
I have gotten desperate & downloaded and installed Ethereal.
Never used a protocol analyzer before. Here is the only thing that
looks different between working PC's and this one.
All IPX frames sent by this (brain dead) PC are sent to Network
00000000. Responses returned by servers to this (brain dead) PC
are sent to Networks 00000002 & aa000002 (both are bound on our
Nw5 server). Working clients start sending on Network aa000002
after the first server response on Network aa000002. There is
never any more traffic on Network 00000000 after that first client
    send frame.
Thank you in advance for your help.

    Hello,
    Nice to hear from someone.
I have tried this old trick but makes no difference on this
machine. I am very new to reading network protocols but using
Ethereal, this is what I see with Client32:
    Source Destination Proto
    Info
00000000.00104be2aa57 00000000.ffffffffffff IPX SAP Nearest Query
    [Client32]

    Response [Nw Server]
    00000000.00104be2aa57 00000000.ffffffffffff IPX RIP Request
    [Client32]
aa000002.006008c1c73d aa000002.00104be2aa57 IPX RIP Response [Nw
    Server]
This sequence just repeats a number of times.
This is what I see with MS Client for Netware (which works):
    Source Destination Proto
    Info
00000000.00104be2aa57 00000000.ffffffffffff IPX SAP Nearest Query
    [MS Client]
    aa000002.006008c1c73d aa000002.00104be2aa57 IPX SAP Nearest
    Response [Nw Server]
00000000.00104be2aa57 00000000.ffffffffffff IPX RIP Request [MS
    Client]
aa000002.006008c1c73d aa000002.00104be2aa57 IPX RIP Response [Nw

    00684214.000000000001 aa000002.00104be2aa57 NCP R OK [Nw
    Server]
Then there is a lot of frames getting server, volume info, and
scripts. It seems something is either missing or brain dead in the
Novell Client32. Did I mention this same machine, NIC and version
of Client32 had work fine for years but Client32 was removed for
SonicWall VPN testing. This lack of function is all that is left
    since re-installing the Novell Client.
I am wondering if setting up TCP/IP on the server (v5.0 Sp6a) and
using IP on the client would help. It just seemed that IPX was
more of a no brainer and should never be this hard.
    Thank again Edison.

Try forcing the frame type in the workstation to match the
    server's.
