Zen 16GB lock ups, text display and video conversion probl

Three issues with my new Zen 6GB. Any ideas are welcome.
The first is that it keeps randomly locking up - not whitescreened or blackscreened - just locked displaying whatever it was previously showing. This happens both while trying to transfer files (it's the same using Media Player synch, Creative Media Explorer or Windows Explorer) and while playing back files. The only solution I've found is to get a needle for the reset button and let it go through "rebuilding" when I turn it on again. That then leads to it displaying the wrong album art... but I can li've with that for now...
The second issue is a strange, definately software, one - the numeral "2" is always displayed one line below the rest of the text. This happens in the track listing, track description during playback and while setting the time / date / alarm. It's not the case when displaying the time in the top right corner, but it is in every other situation, and it's only the figure "2" that's affected.
The third issue is that the Zen Video Convertor refuses to convert any video files. Whatever format of file I have, from whatever source, I always get an error to say that the required codec is not installed.
As I said, any ideas are welcome. I'm travelling almost constantly for the next month, so don't really want to send off for replacement or repair (unless of course for a full refund, and I'll buy a replacement at the airport!).

Before installing the Radeon x900xtx I did a format of the dri've and a clean install of windows xp with SP2. I have tried catalyst 6.4 and the lock ups were very frequent in catalyst 6.3 they are less frequent and more random. I have upgraded to the latest drivers for every other component on my pc. I posted this here and also I have sent in a ticket to ATI because if I remove the XF-I and go with the real tek 8 channel onboard sound all of the lock ups disapear. When the XF-I is in the pc and it locks up it goes into a sound stutter at random times in any D3D or OpenGL game

I don't think so, Lion with the latest updates is running fine for most of us.
Post the log for your next lockup or the previous one if you can isolate the timeframe.

Report Painter Long Text Display and fiscal year

Could you pls let me know, how do I get Long text in the report. Usually we get medium text.
And in the selection screen if i have like:

Fiscal year
Period
How do I get the text along with the Fiscal year.

Hi,
For displaying long text in rows or column,
go to menu bar>Formatting>Rows/column texts. Under this tab, you can select shot, medium, long as required for both rows and columns.
Further, to display fiscal year along with text in column, you must have asisgned variable for fiscal year in column. Go to text of the column and mention &variable of fiscal year assigned for the column after the text.

Getting back text messages and videos

My iphone was freezing up, so I restored it. I was able to sync and get everything back except my old text messages and a few videos is there anyway I can get them back?

Moving from a BlackBerry to an Android, there is no "direct" backup file type that will accomplish this. I've used Verizon's Backup Assistant to transfer contacts from a BB Bold to an Android OS phone without any issues.
Text messages are something else. If you are using Verizon's Integrated messaging app, you can back up your texts and then restore them on the new device. There may be other third party texting apps that allow backups as well.

When attenption to run a Java (lasted version) app, warning security box appears (no text displayed) and then Firefox is totally locked

Using Vista, Foxfire 18.0.1 runs fine until attempting to access a site that need Java to display information. Now with the recent security warning, I first get a screen that that indicated "This plug in has security vulnerabilities -- Click here to activate Java Platform SE & U Platform."
When I click to activate, another box appears the indicates security warning. Only the box appears and at that point Foxfire is totally locked up. At that point I need to go the Task Master to kill Foxfire as well as the security popup window.
The Java Control Panel indicates that I have the latest version of Java.
Suggestions?

You can bypass the first Firefox "Click to Play" prompt for trusted sites by setting Firefox to always activate plugins for specific sites - see [[How to use Java if it's been blocked]]
The second prompt is from Java itself, since the default security level has been increased to "High" in Java 7 Update 11. Ref:

Creating an interactive CV: mouse over / roll over pop ups, embedded documents and videos

Hi everyone,
I am pretty new to Adobe Acrobat Pro and new to this forum (1st post here!). Greetings from Spain... and apologies for grammar mistakes and misleading explanations (in advance). I have been checking this forum and googling quite a bit, but I do not get to many conclusions (maybe I sleep few due to our baby!).
I want to create an interactive CV with the following characteristics:
1) CV in 1 page in a PDF document (no problem here!)
2) Hyperlinks in the text which open embedded files (pdf of others) hidden to the viewer but which are in the pdf document. Possible? (I want the recruiter to receive just one file). Even better if they could be open in another window (doubt it).
How could it be done? I try add documents and they are attached at the end, so the original pdf gets to have more pages, all viewable.
3) Furthermore, mouse over / roll over pop ups which show you a preview of the file you may open clicking the hyperlink, for a quick view of the content.
I think that this may be done, but using other programs, like InDesign. I just try to add a document, but it's sort of a link to a document in my computer. I may add pdf, pps files.
4) Even more, would it be possible to embed a video which would open in a new window? If not, I tried to add a link to youtube and there was a warning as "this program tries to open a window, if you trust the owner... " (similar safety message) and the very last thing I want the recruiter to have to decide whether to decide to watch it or not.
I know its a questions in its very first stages, but the big point is to know if/what it is possible to do, so that I search in the right direction.
If you have any idea or advice (even if not related to PDF pro, of course), just please let me know.

(3) Right, I could not find either a way using just Acrobat Pro (I'm using XI). Sad thing that you confirm it... But it looks like you may do it using other programs on the PDF, but I don't know to use them. You may take a look at this:

IPod Touch locking up on Music and Video screen

I have an 8GB iPod Touch (version 1.1.4) that recently will not display songs or video items stored on the iTouch. iTunes (7.6.1.9) shows that the iTouch has music libraries installed and currently using 1.4GB for Audio files but everytime I press the "Music" button on the iPod the music list window displays as a White background and effectively locks up the iPod until I restart the Power.
I have Reset the iTouch, I have Re-Synced the music lists and neither helped.
Any ideas?

I had the same trouble with the ipod freezing up, then restarting on its own, then all my music was gone and none of the apps would run. I am currently syncing the ipod touch back with the pc to restore the music. I removed the app I was using when this happened (FlyTunes).
I have the 2.0.1 firmware installed and will let you know what happens.

Automated Text Replacement and Video Generation

Hello,
I want to find out if the AE command line has the following capability. Here is what I am doing: I have created an Introduction video using AE. This will be a "stock" trailer used for all the videos I will be making. The only thing that will change on the Introduction video is the titles, dates etc - "text". I do not want to to go into the AE GUI, change the text and regenerate the video. Too time consuming. What would be ideal would be (1) the video or AE Video project be modified using the cmd line AE program changing the text; (2) generating the video.
Does the AE Scripting have this capability? If so could someone give me a simple sample or point me to a simple sample I can to some testing work with. I use a mac so it would be ideal, but Windows is ok too.
In reviewing some documentation, it seems I would use aerender from the command line and use a template. Can this be used to change text in the project and render it to a video?

Hi Jason,
I developed a script for a sudio does the exactly same thing.
But I don't think it's a very good idea to change the text layers through script. There is a way to do this, but not very stable.
What I'm suggestting is change the text, and save them as separate projects or comps, and render them use command line.

Text display and scaling issue

I don't know if this is done by design, but after I released our internal newspaper build on Flex, the number one complaint I received was that when zooming in, the space between the letter was not consistent and in some of the words, the letter are either too far spaced or glued to each other.
I build a little test app to demonstrate what I mean.
I will first post the results and then the code.
First here is a snapshot of text at scale 1: Everything looks great
Now, here is the same text at scale 1.5: (I only scale x and y, it never occur to me at first that I should use z as well)
Notice how crisp the text is but the downside are the distorded words: I highlighted a few in yellow.
So then I figured I give a shot to the z axis and scale that one as well: to my satisfaction the words keep their spacing but the crispiness of the text, not so good!

I can use mobile skins for RichText and RichEditableText components for desktop and web projects, but there is a little problem. They have no mobile skins and they are paradoxically not recomended by adobe to use within mobile projects, because they are heavy. But they work great even if they are scaled. Do you still think that this is not a bug?

Titles- quick text display and long black spot

I am adding titles with text over black. I can't lengthen the time the title text stays in view without lengthening the total title time so that there's a long black space at the end. I don't see anything in the help section to address this. I'm working in "converge to center" effects.
Suggestions? I've done a dozen or so iMovies and love the tool---but for slower readers, this is a problem.

Hi David - I assume you have the problem that your chosen title style allows only 2 lines before repeating the convergence with the next two lines, and the pauses are not long enough for your purpose.
The solution is to extend the length of the pause - but this has to be done with a work-around. You can do it by creating a still-frame of the paused part of the title, but the quality is not quite as good as the original.
There is a better way. This is what I did with your particular title style to extend the pause.
1. Drag the title clip to the desktop. this creates a .dv QuickTime file.
2. Open this file in Quicktime, move the playhead to the paused text, and go Edit>Trim to Selection.
3. Go Command>C (Copy) and then Command V (Paste) and continue to hold down those two keys until a suitable duration has been created - maybe 5 seconds.
4. Save As a self-contained movie, and drag that file back into the iMovie project, and place it in the appropriate position. [You will need to split the original clip at the pause in order to position it].
This has created a 5 second-long clip of the paused text which should be almost indistinguishable in quality from the original. Repeat the process for other pauses where needed.
It is much faster to do than to explain!!

C5 - Text display and Outlook

After the 5130 I'm really disappointed with the basic display on the C5. Not only is black on white awful, but the characters are not as clear and crisp as the little gem 5130. How is this possible with 16M colours?
Also there are no themes to download and it's not possible to have the wallpaper as a theme. So again stuck with the so-called business theme white on black which really hurts my eyes.
I bought this for reading my e-mail - several complaints:
1) MS Outlook via webmail appears in French instead of English. I'm told this can be sorted out by sending a DOS command but how do I do this on the phone?
2) The login screen is bigger than the 5130 bit when I click on the login window, instead of opening up to a full screen for me to enter my login, I have to enter it directly in around 4pt font size! So bigger screen than the 5130 but cannot see anything
3) When in my emails, the words run off the side of the screen. With the 5130 they wrap.
4) I cannot see how to enter the 'return' key when replying to an e-mail.
So all in all the 5130 is much better for the price & options. The C5 is good as a navigator but useless for anything else.

My new Mac Pro (2.66 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xenon-8GB RAM) has a NVIDIA GeForce GT 120. I am thinking to upgrade it to either the ATI Radeon HD 4870, or the just coming out NVIDIA GeForce GTX 285 (manufactured by EVGA).
Any information for the two products, comparison charts, charachteristics etc will be very helpful and wellcomed.

My question is about converting an WMV to a MOV file. WMV does not load into iMovie. Instead of me purchasing 2 different programs, does Final Cut Pro also convert files? Can I load a WMV file into Final Cut Pro

Zen Vision 30 Gb Audiobook Bookmarking and Resume Questions/Probl

Hi and thanks to everyone in advance for your responses.
I have spent some time searching the message board concerning my situation, which I will explain in a minute, but first I wanted to let everyone know that I have tried to do some research, but I am interested in the way in which these problems apply to my situation, and if anyone has suggestions or fixes. (Whew! quite a runon)
I spent a significant amount of time (~ 2 years) saving for a MP3 player, and after much debate decided that the most important feature was the ability to bookmark audio books. I have a 30 minute dri've to work, and have access to large amount of audio books and lectures in my profession. I therefore like to listen, depending on my mood to ) my music, 2) one of my audio books, or 3) one of the many audio lectures I have in my collection. Some times I may go for a week and stay with one thing, or I may switch things around and listen to one thing in the morning and a different thing in the evening. Since most of my time I am in my car when I listen, I had considered buying a MP3 capable CD player only, but Creative assured me that their product would meet all of my needs, and be portable.
The first part of my experience was just a promised. It was summer and I was also in the yard a lot, so I used the player constantly as a book and loved it. As my schedule has increased and as fall has approached I am now doing what I had initially intended and listen mainly in my car. So as you can imagine here is what happens:
)? I get in the car in the morning and turn on the player.........player loads...........and starts at the last track I was currently listening to. Except that I listen to audio books, and depending on the books some have 6 minute tracks and others have 45-50 minute tracks. As some of you know the track has reset. I now have to start fast forwarding through the track to find my previous spot. I know what some of you are thinking. You bought this player for the bookmarking feature that you spent considerable time talking with creative reps on the phone about and if you use that then you won?t have this problem. (Hold your horses; I will get to that in a sec.)? So you can really imagine my frustration when I get to work....come back after working 9-2 hours and turn on my player to discover....you guessed it. Player remembers the track but not the spot. So repeat the process above OR....
2)? Well as we all know, the main reason I was told that other players such as an Ipod and many other brands would not meet my need was because what I needed was a bookmarking feature. So let's run thru this scenario. Now in the morning I get in my car and find that the track has reset. I have "hot keyed" my short cut button for bookmark feature so that in a short click I can now reach my books that I have saved. I can now choose:? last listened to ) music? 2) chapter in book 3) lecture. This is great
!!! So let's start with the 45 minute chapter in a book. I restart in the chapter I was in (approximately 20 minutes into the chapter) and begin driving. Now in the middle of rush hour traffic 5-0 minutes from work I reach the end of the chapter and BOOM. Track dies and I am enjoying the sweet sound of silence. I can now just enjoy the relaxing silence until I get to work, or I can pick up my player and go back through my "now playing" tab to find the playlist, then locate the next track. This works GREAT!?
After explaining what happens above you can imagine that my original intention of listening to a lecture in the morning, and then relaxing by listening to a book in the evening has completely gone out the window. I now listen to my audio book only, and spend a great deal of time fast forwarding to find my last spot. Some of you might say "What's the big deal?"? Well, first I asked creative about the bookmarking feature, and I promise you that if you call a rep they will not tell you about it working this way even under considerable questioning, and secondly I think if I pay the amount of money I have for this product a software update should be available.
I'm wondering how many people have this problem, and if there are any fixes (including third party).

External displays and projectors

I've been having problems getting my MacbookAir (Mid 2012) running OSX 10.8.2 to use external displays and video projectors via VGA and DVI adapters.
The problem is that if I am connected to my external monitor and disconnect the magsafe power adapter, the displays (both the external monitor and the macbook builtin display) instantly go black/shut off. If I close the macbook lid and open it, the displays come back momentarily but then switch off again.
If I connect a video projector via VGA while running on battery power only the displays come on momentarily and then switch off / go black/blank. Opening and closing the lid causes the displays to come on momentarily but they quickly go black/shut off again.
I found a work around for this as follows:
- I had my displays set such that the external display was to be the "main" display (the display with the menu bar at the top and dock at the bottom)
- I changed the settings so that the bultin display of the macbook was always the "main" display (using the system preferences option for displays and dragging the menu bar over onto the icon for the macbook builtin display)
- With it set so the macbook's builtin display is always the "main" display it will now connect to external displays with and without the magsafe power adapter being connected- problem solved.
I think there is a bug here and it should be fixed.

Lukewarm13 I think you should start your own post with that question! personally I think you have a faulty unit.
Did some more testing. My wifes laptop will connect to the projector when using a different (short) vga lead and works fine. Then I can switch to the long cable and it still works fine! BUT if I restart the computer it again fails to work with the long cable until I have used the short lead first. weird!!!!
My laptop works fine first time with either cable!
