Zen 20gb poorly after fall, ide

Dropped it!Very unhappy at first. PC wouldn't find it on connection. Couldn't load library etc.Re-formatted etc. and tried everything possible. It is now found by PC but won't let me transfer anything ('failed' message). I suspect this means the end, but before it goes to the MP3 graveyard I'd like to check that I have exhausted every option. Any suggestions Otherwise, is it worth getting repaired I don't know where to go for this as the Creative site only seems to mention warranty repairs. I li've in Nottingham UK. I love it and the 20gb storage is great (I only use it for music). The newer Zen players either don't have as much storage or do a lot more than I need (for more money). Also, it was a special birthday pressie. Thanks Nick

The problem with harddisk player is the harddisk itself which is very fragile especially if the unit is on. When the player is dropped, it would be enough to damage the disk platter. When you shake the player, do you hear any sound which should not be there ?
As for replacement harddisk, you are pretty much on your own when it comes to replacing it. Before rushing out to getting a replacement harddisk, you might want to see if you can open the unit. Firstly, I am not sure what type of harddisk they use and it could be the IDE or the ZIF interface. And I am not sure if a replacement dri've of that capacity is available for sale in the open market.
I guess you can try asking Creative support but I doubt they would provide you with any information as to dissassembly the unit. It would probably be enough to void the warranty but I would think that the warranty period is probably long gone by now.
I know the harddisk mp3 playe are great value for money but they are fragile and any slightest force against it may damage it. That is probably why Creative is moving away from harddisk players.
In the end, you might be better off with a new flash-memory player. I have the Zen 20gb myself and I understand how you feel about it. It looks ugly but it just plays music great. I really do not want to lose mine.

  • Cost of replacing a Zen 20GB scr

    Hey guys,
I've recently crushed my mp3 player, an old Creative Zen 20GB, and had the screen smashed, it's all black now ! Anyway, I was wondering if anyone had any experiences with sending their mp3 players to repair their screens before, any idea how much something like this would cost in singapore dollars? I don't want to spend a hundred bucks to repair a 2 year old mp3 player. Any ideas?
    Thanks!

I would presume that the cost of replacement is just the normal cost of the phone - but there is no information to confirm this - that is why I'm a little unclear.
The reason for wanting to know is so I can decide on whether it's worth considering insurance, cases etc. If it's simply a case of buying another iPhone then fair enough - if it turns out that you cannot buy another iPhone without signing up to an additional contract (and so paying two lots of £35 per month) or paying vastly more than the initial purchase price for a replacement, then I would be far more concerned about protecting my iPhone.
Really it's a balance between cost of insurance vs risking it, and the bulkiness and inconvenience of using a case vs increased risk of damage.

Batt poor after last update.  4s  7.0.4. Anyone got an idea or answer.  Phil

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.

  • Zen 20gb where is my mus

I have a creative zen 20gb and all was fine until today when after ripping some tracks from a cd to it now when i go in there it says there are no tracks on the player. I have approximately 5gb worth of music on there - but they are not showing up when I go into the player (either normally or through the computer). Can anybody tell me where they have gone and why I can't play them please The memory is still showing up as being used and I am really confused.
    thanks, Helen

I guess it is only in Asia. Other electronics makers also tend to release models first in Asia then perhaps later they release them in the US, or perhaps some are never released in the US. I guess Asians tend to be more willing to pay high prices for the latest and the greatest than people in North America or Europe, so if there is a very limited supply of something, it might only be available in Asia.

  • Petition - Zen 20Gb (DAP-HD00

I have recently upgraded my music player from a zen micro to a Zen 20Gb and I am surprised to find that it is a step backward in terms of firmware.
The zen micro went to deep sleep mode after 4 hours. However this player is still using the old setting of 24 hours before going into deep sleep mode.
    This adversely affects battery life.
So I have decided to ask creative to change this setting in the future.
    Sign please if you agree.
    thanks

  • Zen 20gb - firmwa

    Hiya
I have hunted high and low for a solution to this, so i'm going to have a final stab by registering here and asking....
I have a Zen 20gb, it's not a touch, a micro or anything like that, just a Zen 20gb, I think they might have been limited to Europe and Asia, not sure.
The Firmware on board is .00.02
I need to get this working with Vista. I cannot find a firmware, I did try the Zen firmware but it couldnt find the player, then I found further down in the archi'ved section the page for the Zen 20gb, it said my player was not supported anymore, which I was amazed about as it is not that old.
So is there a work around for this, or am stuck with fireing up XP everytime I want to add music to it's By workaround I mean firmwares for other models that might work. Am pretty p***ed off with Creative for giving up so early on this player by the way, it was a few hundred pounds when I got it a few years ago!!
Thanks for reading and for any ideas you can offer : )

I believe they were using Asia mainly Singapore as the test bed for that harddisk based mp3 player but it did not sit well with the customers here. I bought it because I needed the disk space at a close-out sale. I believe that particular model was a total flop and those of my friends and family who saw it thinks it was the ugliest thing around. They have not sold the unit for quite many years now. It was based on a different format and providing a driver for it make be too time consuming and expensi've and probably just support a handful of users who still uses it.
You pretty much cannot use that one failed model to guage what Creative is doing to support the other popular mp3 players.

The Zen 20GB firmware is available on the Singapore version of the website. Use the Region / Country selector at the top of the page - don't worry, it's in English!
It also works if you type the model number into the Search box on the Download page (Support, Downloads) - use HD005 not DAP-HD005 though.

  • Creative Zen 20gb Battery L

I know this has probably been posted before but its difficult to search for "Zen" 20gb because you get zen micros and touch everywhere. I bought my Zen 20gb player last week and today I thought I'd test the battery life because it seems very low. I only used the touch pad once at the start to put albums on the now playing, then I let it play......it lasted only 4hours, without touching the pad once, or skipping a track or anything. After paying 50 pounds for this with a suggested battery life of hours I'm pretty disappointed. Is this a fault or is there any software update for this?Anyone got any pointers?

Did you fully charge the battery after you transferred music to the player?
4 hours seems very low, but check out this page first to see if the advice helps improve the battery life, otherwise I would recommend contacting Customer Support.

  • Zen 20gb Not Connected mess

Hello! Zen 20gb (old type) - had a few problems with it freezing, rebooting didn't cut the mustard so I decided to reinstall the firmware.
Removed the old firmware as per instructions and subsequently the Zen doesn't get recognised as being plugged into my pc to reinstall the firmware. I don't have a separate PC I can use - I've a Mac, but there's no software for the firmware I can download.
Any ideas? I just get 'device not connected' messages everytime I try to open the firmware installer.
    Thanks - JimmyRepo

    What software are you using?

  • Creative Zen 20gb and Vi

    Hey all,
Im searched all over, and cant seem to find a driver that will make my Creative Zen 20gb install on vista ultimate. Does anyone know? The driver CD that came with it wont even run properly, and Vista wont find the driver on it after a pointed to search.
    Help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks.
    Matt

Well, Creative have been less than helpful on this issue.. theyre sure that nati've drivers will support this device, but that simply isnt the case.
Then when I mentioned that, they directed me to a useless website which told me the same thing that theyd said before.. and now theyve given up altogether.
Im incredibly disappointed with Creatives customer service, or lack of it. If theyve just not updated the drivers yet, then just say so.. Im not unreasonable.
Times like this I wish Id bought the Ipod.

  • Creative Zen (20GB) - Availabil

    <SPAN>Hi,
<SPAN>I li've in the UK, and am currently deciding on an mp3 player to use both at home (to use with some speakers) and to take around with me. After looking at the Creative products I couldn't decide between the Touch (huge memory) and the Micro (great features and looks amazing!).
<SPAN>However, after seeing the Creative Zen (20GB) on <SPAN>http://www.creative.com/products/product.asp?category=23&subcategory=24&product=59 this appears to be exactly what I am looking for.
<SPAN>After searching where to buy it, it seems that it is only available to buy from Asia, and after emailing Creative, they said that this player 'won't be available on the European market for a long time' and that 'It may take 6 months or more before it will be released'.
<SPAN>I would preferably like to buy a player in the next few weeks, and was wondering if there was ANY WAY in which I could buy this player from Creative (in Asia?)?
<SPAN><SPAN>If I was to buy it from Asia, would it work EXACTLY the same as it would when it comes out to buy in Europe (i.e. is it made differently for Asia?)?
<SPAN>I would like to buy a player which will store all my CD collection on so it would be preferable to have at least 20GB.
<SPAN>I would definitely like to buy the Zen (20GB) player at some point because it has both players? features, and so if it was not going to be available to me from anywhere would it be advisable to buy the Micro now and then buy the Zen (20GB) when it comes out, so that I can use them together?
<SPAN>Or would it just be best to get the Touch now (although I have heard some bad things about it, and I am attracted to the Micro apart from its memory!)?
    <SPAN>Thanks in advance,
    <SPAN>Sam

I've not heard that the sensitivity is worse on the touch than the micro, just that some people find them both a little tricky to get used too. I've also heard that some people find that if the turn the sensitivity to max (rather than the usual advice of turning it down) that strangely this works better.
I've never heard complaints about the screen display being worse
And my impression is that there seem to be more reliability issues with the micro. (headphone jack for starters)
DISCLAIMER: Having said all that, that is not to say that I am right this is just my impression, others may well think differently (and they may well be right as well )
Re: the Zen 20gbs if you really want you can get it now but I wouldn't be wanting to deal with the legalities and expense of shipping it to singapore to get it fixed under warrenty if there is a problem. Here is a linkhttp://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...5775262832&rd=

  • ZEN 20GB Roc

Oh yeah! I got my Zen 20GB a week ago...and it rocks! The sound, features (FM tuner, FM and voice recorder,Simple organiser...and an ALARM CLOCK which uses your mp3 as tones too!) and the memory as well! Seriously, I never understand and see how CREATIVE audio players are less superior to Apple's audio players (you know what i'm referring to).Better still! it came with a charger and other accessories! In fact, I just LOVE my new player!
Nevertheless, there are definitely some tiny weenie problems too:
.) the battery life is pretty short (claims to be hrs, but mine lasted only 9.5hrs on the first charge;but this is fair enough, since i transferred much songs to it). Well, guess i'm jus a bit too demanding, cuz my previous flash-based mp3 player could last more than 2hrs.
2.)It's kinda wierd that I didnt see the blue glow when i finished charging it for 7-8hrs with the player off. (my friend's Zen Micro had a glow there after charging, with the player off). Did i mention that the blue glow, is indeed "mesmerising", as mentioned?
I guess if these problems are eliminated,it would without doubt,be the perfect audio player!

GlenZEN: Just to add to Cat's advice, the battery can take 2 or 3 charges to reach full capacity. As Cat has mentioned battery life is dependent on various factors. There's also advice in the FAQ post about how to preserve it. It's kinda pointless to compare it with a previous MP3 player as it would no doubt be completely different.

  • After falling red led for 3 seconds then dead

    Hi,
after falling on the floor my blackberry 8800 will not start anymore..
When I insert battery or charger cable the red led lights up for 3 seconds then turns back off but the device is dead...it the anything I can do?
Iv found other topic's talking about red flashing light and firmware reload, is this the same thing?
    Thanks for any help!

    Hey mau_mau,
You can try to reload your operating system but most likely all your data will be lost.
You can try to see if the device will connect to the BlackBerry Desktop Manager to back up data, but there is no guarantee it will be able to do so.
You can consult article KB11320 for instructions on how to do the load.
If you need further technical assistance, you can contact your wireless service provider.
Thanks and have a great day!

  • Zen 20GB (like the micro) Firmw

    Hi,
I have a 20gb ZEN (the one like the micro) with version .00.02firmware and was looking for the upgrade but the product isn't listed - the upgrade specifically says the for your , 4, 5 or 6GB Creative Zen Micro player.
HELP - WHERE IS THE UPGRADE :-(((((
    TIA
    Paul

It's only available in certain regions, so you'll only find the available downloads depending on what country you choose (ie, a quick check showed it's not listed in the US, but it is in Singapore). If there was a problem with your current player and you needed to reload the firmware, I think you'll have to contact Support if you can't find it on the downloads page. As far as I know, there aren't any firmware upgrades for this player.
    2027746,
FYI - the Zen 20gb is like a Micro on steroids. It's got the same design features and layout, but bigger.

  • Zen 20GB and why you should just buy an ipod inste

I bought 2 creative zen 20gb players in Singapore about 2 years ago. Now this device is no longer supported by creative and they do not provide links to drivers etc. How hard is it to provide a link to old drivers
Don't get me started on the s**t software that Creative provided with it in the first place. I had to buy a third party application called Notmad explorer because the creative provided software was useless and basically incapable of uploading files to the device.
How about a docking station for your creative MP3 player Forget about it, Creative only provides those for Apple products and not for it's own Creative Zen 20gb.
I will no longer buy creative products or recommend them to anyone.
    EPIC FAIL CREATIVE!
Remember when Creative used to make great sound cards
Remember when Ensoniq made leading edge synthesizers
Remember when Emu used to make great synthesizers
    What happened !

I'm glad you are happy with you creative gear albinoni. If you bothered to read my post you will notice I didn't compare Creative Mp3 to iPods. I merely pointed out that Creative provides more accessories for iPod's than it does for the Creative product I bought.
