Zen 4GB inoperable after MP3 Recovery Tool

*Zen 4GB inoperable after MP3 Recovery Tool' I was getting the intermittent white screen problem with my Zen 4GB. Tech support instructed me to use the MP3 Recovery Tool. After running the tool, the player is inoperable. It turns on, but the screen is always white or gray and no interface is displayed. The blue light near the power switch turns on. Reset does not help. After running the recovery tool a 3rd time, Creative Zen Media Explorer recognizes the player when connected, and I can browse the media that is installed. I couldn?t even do that on the first two tries. Currently I am unable to play any files because I don?t have a user interface to navigate.
The support email instructed me to create an online RMA if the recovery tool did not work. I have attempted this numerous times and always receive a message that there is an error. No specifics. I tried replying to the original support email, but got no response. I tried sending a new email through the support website several times, but don?t even receive the automated response. It is not showing up in my email service?s spam folder. I have received no reply for the past several weeks, but I wonder if they are actually receiving my messages.
Any suggestions? My warrantee runs out in about a month and I want to get this resolved while it is still possible.
Technicals: Windows XP Media Edition, SP3; Creative Media Explorer v5.70.5; Windows Media Player .

Hello Buckaroobonzai,
Welcome to Creative forums!
This doesn't look good. White screen is a symptom of a hardware problem. I suggest you contact tech support by phone as soon as possible before your warranty expires. Check your PM.

The screen remains dark and it is not recognized in Windows Explorer or in the ZEN V Series Media Explorer. Using the reset button and recovery tool has no effect. Holding play while powering up has no effect. Trying to power up or connecting to the computer illuninates the play/pause and options buttons solid blue. Battery status is 80-90% charged. In Device Manager it is displayed as Player Recovery Device Class. Player is approx. six weeks old. Does anyone have any suggestions that would help revi've this player ?

On the Xp computer rollback the WMP to WMP0 instructions for rolling back here. http://forums.creative.com/creativel...hread.id=66060? If it rolls back to WMP9 install WMP. If you still have your install disc WMP0 is on there. Or go here.http://www.filehippo.com/download_wi...edia_player/9/ Additionally do you have a MediaSource on the computer? • Zen Nano Plus bricked by Recovery Tool?

Re: Books on Cd I went ahead and attempt to install the latest firmware upgrade. At this time the upgrade seems to be progressing.
Okay. The player has successfully booted up
Success. After removing Windows Media Player , I was able to install the latest firmware upgrade. I have several follow-up questions. Most important question is #
. I wonder why the Zen Micro Media Explorer is not available to me. It is all grayed out. Any suggestions on how to get it to work
    2. Is the Zen Micro Media Explorer a logical substitute to employing the Windows Media Player 0 It seems to have everything I need .
    3. How am I able to create a new playlist in the device if I cannot access this application
    4. When I select Playlist on the device, I see a message that says: To create a playlist select from the Now Playing context menuWhat is that all about and where do I roam to do this
Thanks very much for your help
Richard One of my new Zen Nano Plus appears to have been bricked by my use of the Recovery Tool, when it was misbehaving. This happended before with another Zen Nano Plus we had, but we fixed that over a year ago and it works fine now.
Actuallly, it's one of 6 my family has - plus we have lots of other Creative products (a Micro, Zen, Vado, X Mod etc). While its almost brand new, its was purchased on eBay in 2008.
Usually the first thing is to update the firmware, and tried the Recovery Tool hoping it had been updated - but now my Zen Nano Plus dows not turn on or get connected, and I tried to PCs and several USB cords and various USB connections.
I undertand a Zen Nano Plus does not have a Recovery Mode but did try usual method.
. Remove the battery, and press & hold the Play button will connectiong to the PC.
    2. Keep pressing play for about 0 second until the New Hardware Wizard starts - that will only happen the first time.
    3. Completete the New Hardware Wizard
I believe it may need to be reformatted, but is not totally bricked and can be repaired.

  • Zen 4GB Freezes after playing Audible F

If you are playing an Audible file (located in Zen memory in the music folder) and then attempt to play an MP3 file on an SD card the unit will freeze and you will need to reset. Playing movie files?or other MP3's files from the same location do not cause this problem. I have tried many Audible files and all cause the same problem. I have installed the latest firmware and this does not correct the problem. My only work-a-round, so far, is to switch to playing a non-Audible file and the turn off the unit. Now when I turn the unit back on I can again play files on the SD card. Anyone else have this problem???

Are you "fully charging" your Zen?
The battery charge indicator is fully green, not flashing and has a key/symbol within the battery indicator.
    Also,
Regarding lithium-ion shelf life, one of our engineers recently met with a battery-house representati've. It has come to their attention that repeated charging and re-charging of a less than fully discharged Li-ion cell affects the battery "gas gauge" included with many devices. Over a number of cycles there is a resultant loss in accuracy. Frequently, the indicated remaining charge has little relationship to the actual amount of life left in the cell! Fortunately, according to the battery expert, the gauge will reset itself if the battery is allowed to completely discharge from time-to-time.

  • Recovery Tool for Zen Style 300

    |I expect to receive a Zen Style 300 today and have been reading up on support and potential issues. I have enjoyed using?two Zen V Plus but often had to relaod firmware. The web page for the Zen Style 300 shows the recovery tool but it is not listed as a device supported by the recovery tool. Can someone claridy whether or not I can use the recovery tool? if needed?

    #Hi,
I don't think it's supported since the ZEN Style is not in the list yet. You can find the firmware here.

  • Zen Vision:M Problem (Firmware + Recovery Mode) (please un-sti

(apologies on the sticky, i misclicked!)
I've had my Zen Vision:M 30GB for over a year now, and I absolutely love it! Unfortunately, while on my New Years vacation this past week I accidentally dropped it after it tangled in my headphones. Immediately afterwards, I started getting the "recovery mode" problem that seems to crop up. Unable to get past this(it booted only once every million-or-so tries), I decided to use the "MP3 recovery tool" from Creative's site
Unfortunately, it froze up halfway through, and now is giving me a "Hard Disk error". I tried to reformat, and it seemed to wipe it clean...but now it wont even recognize it when I plug it into my USB port to put in new firmware! (The PC recognizes it, but not the Firmware installation)
    I don't know what else I can do....any ideas/help, please?
(I looked at Creative's support pages, but they only deal with Warranty repairs, which I don't have as it was a gift.) Can they repair/replace a broken non-warranty player, and if so, for how much?
Or is there another solution I haven't tried yet?
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

  • Zen 4GB freezes when locked and screen shuts d

Not sure if it is meant to do this ...but my brand new Zen 4GB freezes after the lock is applied, and?as soon as the screen powers down. Music stops playing and everything goes black and nothing responds (player blue?light still on). Even if I switch it out of lock, or try to turn on or off - nothing. Just have to reset.Surely you can carry on playing musing and apply the lock (for keys and screen power saving). Can't find any reference to this in knowledgebase. Thanks

:_ Hi gewillia-welcome to the forum.
This may not be helpful but here goes. I have the same Zen 6gb player and use it with computer running
Windows XP Home SP3,in fact the same set up as yours.
Firstly I find downloading via Windows Media player version best as I have experienced freezing using
    creative's software.What is your media player's version?
I was going to suggest the clean up mode as this cured problems for me but you could try the format option.
Please note this will remove all files from your player so you need to make sure they are all available on your
computer because you will have to download them all again.
A simpler suggestion-have you tried a different usb lead or a rear connection on your computer as some
members have found these changes make a difference.
Would not think the firmware is a problem-seems the latest version to me.
Failing the above working maybe you have a bad player and need to contact creative support.
Let us know how it goes.

  • Error: You have more than one Creative players connected. - Recovery Tool for ZEN

My Zen 4GB cannot be turned on anymore after a failed firmware upgrade (The installation hung up). I tried to run the firmware upgrade executable file again but the player must be on. So I tried to hardware reset by switching the power slide on while pressing the play button, but it still doesn't start. I downloaded and ran the Recovery Tool while the player was connected, but an error message appeared: "ERROR: You have more than one Creative players connected. Please remove all but one, click "OK" to exit and then run this program again." - There was no other players connected but the ZEN. Please help... What can I do

I have this very exact same problem with the same model. Did you ever find a solution to this?

I find MP3 Library really straightforward and easy to get to grips with. It's a pretty no nonsense program, but makes light work of v > v2 transfer, as well as other various automated functions.
I've never had an issue with tags while using this.

  • Zen 4Gb White screen after hold m

    Hi,
I have this problem on my zen 4gb: when I put it in hold mode, everything works fine, but when I put it back to "normal mode", then the screen becomes white. The player works but I can't see anything because it's white, I have to switch it off and then on to have a normal situation. I tried to reinstall the firmware (ver. .20.02) but nothing changed.
Someone has the same problem? Have you a solution?
    Thank you,
    Enrico

Ahh. The white screen. Have you reformated the player? Under creative media explorer tools, there is an option to format. Try this. If not, send it back. Here is a good forum too.
