ZEN 8 GB annoying connection prob

I've just received my brand new ZEN 8 GB.
Firstly I should mention that everything works just fine on my laptop, this problem occurs only on my regular PC.
I've installed the software from the CD-rom and I've plugged the mp3 player to a usb port (both directly and using extended cables). Windows notices that I've plugged it in and asks me what to do. If I click on the one that says something with "Creative Media Explorer" nothing happens. If I go to My Computer and enter ZEN Media Explorer, then the window crashes (I mean, explorer.exe crashes), and I can only get back to the usual state by terminating explorer.exe and opening it again. If I'm lucky I can actually enter ZEN Media Explorer, and if I'm terribly lucky I can see the contents on the ZEN. But I cannot add anything, if I click on "Add Media" I get a message says that "device is not connected or busy". Uhm no, it's connected and definitely not busy. When I pull the plug out of the ZEN (the usb cable) the ZEN doesn't always notice this, and the ZEN's "usb screen" continues to be there, even if the usb cable is not plugged in. I plug it in again and out again and if I'm lucky, it goes away. If not, I'll have to try more than once.
I've experienced that my ZEN crashed once because of this.
So, ZEN Media Explorer crashes and I cannot add anything to the ZEN and the ZEN doesn't always notice that I've removed the usb cable.
Please help me, I've tried everything that I could find in the pinned threads in here without luck. Even the registry thing and installed Windows hot fixes etc. Nothing hel
ps.

I also have problems with my ZEn 8GB. I believe the software is not up to par and the stuff from Creative is not very well done.
Within a few minutes with my IPOD Nano, I was off and rochin' with firmware AND software updates - no flippin' issues like I have had with this ZEN 8GB.
To bad it is a present for my son
!!! Might be buying him an Apple product as well so I don't spend precious time figuring out how to get around the Creative software and firmware issues!!
Good luck to you!

  • Zen Vision M 30gb Connection Prob

Hello,?After using my Zen for months without any problems, yesterday, I couldn't make my player recognized by either Windows Media Player or Zen Vision:M Media Explorer. I made a big search on the internet, found too many posts, followed the instructions and nothing happened. - My operating system is SP2 installed Windows XP.- My Zen is fully charged.- I tried all 6 USB inputs.- I also tried three different USB cables.- In Device Manager, I can see my Zen with the name "Creative Zen Vision:M" under the Portable Devices category. No problems, no question marks, no conflicts...- I made the "Permissions for Everyone" change from Registry. People recommended me to install the latest firmware but it also says "your device is not connected". Then in another forum, I noticed that some people are experiencing problems with Media Player . I tried to uninstall it but couldn't do that, too! I tried to rollback the drivers, nothing happened. I tried to delete the files and registry keys, nothing happened. I tried to install Media Player 0 on , of course nothing happened. I want my Zen back! Your suggestions will be very much appreciated. )?Thanks,Ozan.

  • Zen Extra to pc connection prob

I've been using my zen extra for a while until suddenly when I connected it to my pc it wasn't recognized. My pc made this sound that means that the connection didn't work or something like that. The Nomad explorer in "my computer" also said that it was not connected. I tried downloading a new driver (non of them worked) and re-installing the stuff that was on the disc it came with. That obviously didn't work either. I was then told by a friend to do the clean disk thing, which didn't do anything. I don't know what is going on so some help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Zen Vision M not connecting

?I've searched through everything I could find here and tried them all, to no avail. Here's what's happened. My Zen Vision M (30 Gb) wouldn't start when connected to 3 different PCs I use it with. I figured it needed firmware update or something, so I tried that, but all update tools say I need to connect the Zen. I tried clean up and formatting all to no avail. Same not connected issue. Then I searched through the forum and saw the exclamation point in device manager issue, so I uninstalled and then plugged it back in. No more exclamation point and it shows up in device manager, but none of the firmware update options recognize the Zen is connected (or Media Player 0 or ). Device manager says it's operating fine, but Zen Media Explorer, MP3 recovery tool, and Media player do not recognize it as connected. Since it's older, all Creative said was EOSL... Are there things I haven't tried?

Re: Zen Vision M not connecting,Thanks, I had thought I'd tried everything, but as it turns out, one laptop I was using that I thought had Media Player 0 had . I don't think my player was ever exposed to 0, but I rolled back one on a laptop to 0 and then tried the firmware updater I had saved on that laptop and it worked! I'm back in business!? Now am reloading about 25 Gb of music, but that's a pain I can deal with. I tried the different cords and as for OS, one is Vista, one XP Media Center, and one XP. All are up-to-date with service packs etc. I had just updated Norton 360 and I read somewhere that it can mess up USB ports, so that may have started all the fun. In the end, thanks to all in these forums as I never would have thought of rolling back Media Player and the other things I did. Kudos to all....

  • Very annoying connection failed message

    Hello.
This question was actually asked by another member and it was never answered. I keep receiving a connection failed message after startup. This message is the one where it states; "Connection failed. Server may not exist or is not operational at this time. Check server name or IP address & try again." Just like the previous member who asked, I too am not trying to connect to anything so why do I keep getting this message? I read somewhere on here about deleting aliases but that was a suggestion for OS9 users.
Could someone please share with me on how to get rid of message? I tried the suggestion that was offered prior about going to GO in the finder and selecting connect to server but when I do this, there is nothing there to connect to nor delete so this suggestion does not work.
All of this started when I connected my two Intel Macbook Pros via ethernet a few days ago. I have decided not to network the two machines so I have disconnected them. The main machine which was machine 1 is the one giving me the annoying connection failed message while machine 2 does not. Does it have something to do with the server alias? If I am the only user of these computers, why are my server privileges insufficient? Why can't I just delete the server alias? Why is removing this annoying connection failed message so difficult?
    Please help. Thank you

Macbook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Not sure on this, but perhaps the user of the other book left the Alias there?
You can easily change Permissions on that Alias to get rid of it, perhaps by doing a Get info, or surer yet using batchmod...

  • Zen V Plus USB connect

    Hi fellows
I have problems with my Creative Zen V Plus 2 GB
After installing all the software included in the CD, i plug my Zen in the USB port but my PC doesn?t recognize it, a message appears: A device is connected in a 6 ports USB root hub not compatible with high speed" (well, it'ss a translation, because English isn?t my nati've language) but i don?t have any usb hub, so my Zen appears like not connected, so i can't transfer music, or configure it.
I even tried to modify the system?s registry but it stills not working.
I run W XP Home Edition, and WMP 0.
Thank you very much for your help

Hey Guys,Here is a link to instructions on how How to obtain and to install USB 2.0 drivers in Windows XP Service Pack . http://support.microsoft.com/default...;EN-US;Q329632?Win2000 and later have the capability to support USB 2.0, but USB 2.0 was released after XP was release, so there weren't any drivers installed before Windows XP service pack 2. Make sure you've installed all your windows updates including service pack 2. You can check if you have SP2 by right-clicking on my computer and choosing "properties", it will say on the general tab. Also the way to tell if you have USB 2.0 drivers installed is to right-click on my choose "Manage", then choose "device manager" look down to "uni'versal serial Bus controllers" and click on the + . This will expand the USB devices. Look for the word "enchanced" (USB enhanced host controller). If you see it, then you have USB 2.0 support. If not, use the link above and get the drivers. Hope this helps!?JT

  • Zen Vision M wont connect to my PC after i've formatted my PC & reloaded Window

    Hi.
My Zen Vision:M wont connect to my PC after I formatted my PC & reloaded WindowsXP.
Before this it was Ok. Now, when I plug in the usb it detects the player, but the drivers WILL NOT load. It shows up in system--->device manager--->? driver not installed.
    I've tried,
-removing creative installation software (which came with the player)& re-installing..
-updating my systems BIOS & USB drivers.
-running regedit & ticking 'allow read' in USB's (as explained in creative troubleshooting)
    -turning off my firewall.
I connected it to my sisters computer running Xp & it connected without problems.
Why wont it connect to mine
    Jason

OK now, I am not the smartest computer dude and this is not the magic cure but it did fix my problem with WMP0 and Creative software not noticing the player and the driver having issues. I was also having issues with a new external hard dri've.
I tried everyhting to fix this thru creative support which did respond to all my inquiries thru email, but nothing worked. I mean nothing. Reinstalling software, WMP0, manually searching for drivers, deleting USB ports so Windows could reconfigure, pulling out all USB peripheals except mouse, BIOS settings and updating drivers on motherboard.
Now here is how I fixed the problem:
I bought a new USB 2.0 PCI card to stick in my motherboard from NEWEGG for 8.99 plus 5 bux shipping. It was a wing and a prayer, it was plug and play and so easy to set up. It auto noticed without having to install drivers, even though a NEC chipset driver set was availbale on the disc provided. It noticed it and said I was good to go. I was still apprehensi've upon plugging my ZEN in , but saw stuff I hadn't seen b4 then went to WMP0 and There she was saying lets play. Creative noticed it tooo and starting DLing tunes.
My external hardri've works great now tooooooooooo.
It was a SYBA USB PCI 2.0 card on NewEgg.com and it got here in 4 days. 4 external and internal port and is 5 star rated by over 60 revieewer that bought the product. If this does not work u are only the 5 percent restock charge and so all u would lose is about a dollar.
Please let me know if this is of any help for anyone out there. <IMG height=6 src="http://forums.creative.com/i/smilies/6x6_smiley-very-happy.gif" width=6 border=0>
And no I do not work for SYBA, but just so happy that I finally got all my stuff to work. Seems a lot of people out there have the same exact problem as I did.

  • Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra connection prob

I already tried searcing the forums, And I didn't come across anything like this, And anything I came across that was similar I did as was suggested and it didn't help. anyways, onto the problem...:
I'm using Windows XP by the way.
I just got a new Zen Xtra a few days ago because I had to return my first one because the harddri've crashed, so I took this one home, loaded my music onto it and it was fine. Today I went to load more music onto it and my computer started lagging really badly, I use Realplayer to put my music onto the player and when I clicked into it, It would freeze as it was starting and I'd have to kill the program.
Then I tried going into My Computer to go into the Nomad explorer, Except my computer took about 5 minutes to find itself, And then it only found 'Desktop' and 'My Computer' which, 'My Computer' had nothing in it. So I went into desktop and that fixed the problem with the harddri'ves showing up, Except once I get into Nomad Explorer it says my player isn't connected.
I (physically) disconnected and reconnected my player while in Nomad Exploer but it's still a no-go.
I cleaned up the disk on my player and rebooted it, I used a different cable and tried all my USB ports. What do you suggest I do?
I really need some help and if it doesn't get fixed I'm not getting another replacement, I'll have to get a different brand.Message Edited by spring90 on 08-07-2006 04:43 PM

Ok... I think I figured it out. I finally got into the recovery mode. I let the battery sit out of the mp3 player for a while, hoping that there is a capacitor that would run out of power. I put the battery back in and got into recovery mode. I ran disk clean up. Nothing changed. I had the same problem I first started off with. So I took the battery out again for an hour. Came back, and got back into recovery mode. I reinstalled the OS. Everything seems to be working fine.
I hope that anyone having a similar problem with this mp3 player can keep this in the back of their mind if they cannot get into recovery mode due to a boot up and shut down problem.

    adikai,
You might want to try uninstalling the MTP device entry in Device Manager and let your system redetect the player again. If this does not help, please get in touch with support for further assistance.

  • Zen touch connecting prob

I bought the zen touch yesterday and since then I have not succesfully been able to dock it to my computer. I followed all the instructions and have uninstalled/reinstalled several times. In device manager it says that the zen touch is working properly, but whenever I open nomad explorer the device blinks "docked" a couple times then goes back to the menu screen. I was wondering if anyone could help me?
    Thanks

I wouldn't recommend installing software *after* the Zen is attached, this can cause other problems with the driver not being found by the player.
I would recommend to the original poster that you make sure you get the latest drivers, firmware, and MediaSource from Nomadworld.com downloads. Install this with the Zen *not* connected, then when all is done and the PC is rebooted connect the Zen.
If you're still having problems there's lots of advice here in the Zen FAQ at Nomadness.net.

  • Nomad Zen Xtra Connection prob

I recently upgraded from 2000 Pro to XP Pro and have struggled with connectivity since. I cannot view the Zen xtra as a hard disc in the 'my computer' function. It connects fine with Media Organizer, but I can't view it as an external dri've. This worked fine in 2000. Any thoughts or recommendations would be appreciated.

I was unaware that the Zen Xtra could be viewed as a hard dri've on any OS. It certainly cannot be viewed that way on Windows XP.

  • Zen V connection prob

I just got it from the UPS like 2 hours ago, been charging since, then, and for the past 30 minutes or hour i have been trying to put music in it but, it keeps saying that the zen isnt connected to the computer. I have it connected, and its charging, but why wont it show that its connected, im sure its not the computer because i can connect my PSP and put movies in it and all. I really want this thing to work, i payed so much money for it, and im a broke person, i shoulnt be spending money like this, and now look what happens to me....
I tried the usb cord from my psp, and its the same thing, its charging, but it syas its not connected, i tried it on my moms computer in her room, and its the same thing....

I had the same problem. My guess is that you are running window media player . Follow these instructions. If you are using WMP, this may be the reason why yourplayers are not
detected. You need to uninstall Windows Media Player , update your
player's firmware, and then reinstall WMP .
To uninstall your WMP, you may refer to this Knowledge Base article:

    Media Player Beta 2 (SID6737)

After uninstalling WMP, update your player?s firmware.
. Download the latest firmware from <a target="_blank"]http://us.creative.com/support/downloads/[/url].
    2. To find out more on how to install a firmware, click on the Show
Details button at the download page, or refer to the README. TXT file if
    included with download.
    3. Connect your player to your PC and check that it is installed
    correctly.
    4. Double click on the downloaded firmware file. A window will appear
with instructions on how to complete the firmware update.
To view the full instructions on how to update your player's firmware,

  • ZEN 8 GB connectivity prob

Hey, I'm new to the forums here. I just got a new Creative mp3 player not too long ago ands its been great to use. Although one problem I did have with the previous ZEN V Plus I had and this one is that each time I goto plug my mp3 player into my PC and try to sync using WMP or Creai've Sync Manager it ends up disconnecting itself or ejecting, and then a few seconds later it reconnects. I've made sure that the cable I'm using has no broken wires or anything. I even tried using another cable too and it still happens.
Help would be apreciated so I can fix this and continue to sync my music without interuption while it disconnects again!

Well, instead of trying another PC, I pluged my mp3 player into one of the USB ports on my USB PCI card in the back. I can't goto school without my music so I thought I would try again and sync it, just not in the front USB ports. It hasn't cut out on me yet since I used the rear ports! As weird as that is it could be just that my PCI card is all that makes it work for some reason. The computers ports dont work but just the cards :S
I was also looking at another topic about a simular problem... well not too the same, but it had said something about power levels affecting the connection. Maybe it is that the power output on my PC's USB ports are lower that normal and.. well, thats as far as I figure.
So far I have sync'd more than 400 songs out of my 000 that I have without interuption!

  • Creative Zen Touch connection prob

Hi, I've had my zen for a few months and it's great. But I reformatted my computer last week, and I've been trying to load music on to my zen. I can install the software just fine, restart, ready to go, but I connect my zen to the computer via the usb cable, and my computer becomes very choppy, I can't access Task Messenger, and I have to reboot every time.
Has anyon else had this problem? Or am I doing something stupid and not realizing it's
    Any help is appreciated

Alright, I went through and installed every update for my Zen Touch from that website. Drivers and software all updated fine, went to update my firmware, after restarting, plugged in the Zen, Same thing happened. Computer started chugging along as if something was eating the cpu. Well, I managed to get the Task Manager open before the slowdown began, and a process called winlogon, which I'm assuming is part of windows, as it's always been in task manager, was using 99% cpu. Now, I've NEVER seen this program do anything, let alone eat every ounce of my processors power.
Does anyone knoww hat is going on here? I'm going to call tech support tomorrow and see if they can help me, but I"m not sure how much good that will do.
