Zen 8gb Not Responding - First Cha

Here's the deal. I followed all the installation instructions. Plugged my Zen into the USB port and nothing happened. It's been about 7 hours. All that happens is the creative logo appears on the screen and than the screen goes blank. I pushed the reset button with a paper clip but all that did was turn the player off. I proceeded to turn the player on and got the logo again followed by the blank screen. My system is not recognizing the device for some reason. I've ruled out all the obvious things like a faulty USB port or Service Pack 2 not installed and crap like that. I can't even be sure the thing is being charged since nothing happens when I plug it in to the USB port. Any help would be great, thanks!

When I have my new Zen hooked up to the computer, it will show the "Docked" screen and not respond. Is this normal? No black screens though.
Can someone varify that upgrading will help? Which upgrade?

  • Creative Zen 8GB not keeping accurate time on cl

Hello, I am wondering if anyone else is experiencing problems with thier Creative Zen's (mine is an 8GB) not keeping accurate time on the digital clock on the player? My firmware is .2.0 by the way. I have a fully charged battery and noticed yesterday that the time on my clock was way off and needed to be set once more. So I set it correctly yesterday, now 24 hours later, the time is again way off...it thinks it's :6 pm even though it's 0:20 pm as I post this message.
I have noticed this several times previously and have adjusted the clock accordingly each time...this is not just a random incident.
I have used the player for several hours today but the battery still has lots of charge left and the unit functions correctly minus this time issue.
Any feedback or help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Drew

I too hope that if others are having this problem that they would add their comments to this thread. I know this is a rather small issue, but it is annoying none the less. I mean otherwise my player is rock solid. Yes I could turn off the display of the clock and not rely on it at all (now I don't because it's always wrong) but that means I am settling for a product that does not work as advertised with ALL it's features working correctly. I am being kind of picky but I just want the product to function correctly... I don't think that's being too out of the ordinary with my expectations.
Anyhow, to make a long story short, I have been issued an RMA number and plan on sending the player off to Creative here in Canada.
I promised to post a follow-up with a copy of what Creative has sent me for correspondence in case others are interested. Oh and just to be complete, here are my answers to the suggested self-troubleshooting methods in the following email - yes I am running the latest firmware release and I am a clock setting professional now because I have done it so many times.
I have also searched this forum for other users who may be having this issue and I did not find too many (I found this interesting). So that is why I created this thread. I am starting to notice, at least at this time, a few others who are having similar experiences as I-yup I agree I am not the first to have problems with my MP3 player nor the last. Just was curious to see if this was a common problem or if I was the lucky one of the bunch or one that people just didn't bother to report...
Regardless everyone's feedback is appreciated and respected.
    Anyhow here is their email:

  • Connecting Zen 8GB for the first t

    Hello All,
I've just gotten my brand new Zen 8GB. However, it doesn't seem to want to connect to the computer! I've installed the software just like in the Quick Start manual, then connected the player, but nothing happens. I suspect there are 2 causes for this:
    1) The player isn't charged, and the computer won't read it. However, the player won't charge if I plug it into a wall outlet, and the computer recognizes that something is installed because....
    2) The computer adds the Zen as a Human Interface Device, not an External Storage or Media Device or even Other. This has happened on 2 different computers, both with and without the software installed. Both computers are running WinXP SP2.
I've emailed back and forth with support, and they suggested I get a replacement from Amazon. However, I want this thing working now! :-P
Any help will be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!

If you cannot turn on the Zen without any connection to the PC then most likely the battery is flat. For the computer to recognize the Zen, it needs to have some charge. So what you can do is to plug the Zen to the PC and let it charge for at least 4 hours. Ensure that the PC does not have any energy saving features turned on during that time. Alternati'vely, if you have an external charger, you can do likewise.
With the older firmware, I find that the Zen do hang after being charged externally and the unit does not respond. If that is the case, use a safety pin and poke that little hold at the (narrow) base of the player until you hear a click. Do not poke the Mic. Then try turning on the unit again.

  • Zen Installer Not Respond

I was in the process of installing the software for the Zen MP3 player, when the installer stopped responding.
It installed the first three items, but now it is stuck and says "Installation is in progress. Please wait a while." It has been like that for the last half an hour.

  • Zen player not responding/not turning on

My zen just stopped working. it was fully charged and I loaded it with music but when I turned it on later in the day to use while running, it didn't turn on. it won't respond to reset, charging and no computer recognizes it when I plug it in. seems I have a dead zen. I've tried everything I've read on several forums. Any more ideas would be appreciated.
I'm about to give up on my Zen. we've already had to send it in to the factory to be fixed once. these things are not made well.

I have the same problem with my zen stone, they told me in the Technical Support to connect it to PC,then push reset for 0 seconds and charge battery during two hours. It didn't help so in their opinion I should go to the shop I bought it and have it changed for another one. I don't think there is any other solution in your case too
I had MuVo before I bought Zen, the previous one was working perfectly whole three years, I don't know why Zen players are so much worse

  • Zen micro not respond

Hey, Can anyone help me here? My micro has power, but when I turn it on it just shows the creative logo, if i go to the recovery mode, nad select any option, nothing happens, any ideas?

Creative will probably run through some checking again that the player is faulty, and if it is confirmed then you return it to them for a replacement.

  • I've got a Zen 8gb, but probably going for an iPod because.

My Zen 8GB is my first mp3 player. This player is really something when it comes to watching videos and movies. I have no major complaints.... But searching the net and discovering more about ipod i finally quit the idea of buying the new Zen 32GB and going for an ipod classic 80GB. Probalby i'll give the Zen to my wife. The reasons that push me to that are: . In my opinion an ipod is more stylish than Zen. Zen is plastic while an ipod (6th generation) is metallic. 2. No card integration to the players library so far (and i don't know if it ever that happens). At least the moderators here in this forum should post something like "ok boys and girls, we are working on this, stay cool". No news about that. 3. When it comes to fast forwarding in a movie you can not see at wich point is the movie. No preview while fast forwarding while an ipod can do that. 4. The wheel button on the ipod is really something and much more handy than the cross-square button on Zen. 5. 80GB versus 32GB...big difference. I need more space...! 6. The price of an ipod classic 80GB is much lower than the 32GB Zen. I know (as a friend in here replied to me) that the flash memory Zen uses is of a better quality than the hard dri've of the ipod and i respect that...i really do...but i think i am sticking at the older technology. The only thing that for the moment i see as a minor concerning the ipod, is that you have to use itunes to do everything. For the moment, and not seeing that in act, that worries me a bit. Zen is purely drag and drop into the player...no worries! But i think i can manage that when i get the hung of it. I don't know if my thoughts are right or i've been brain washed by all that apple-propaganda. The thing is that apple's products are everywhere. Here in Greece you can find anything on apple's product but concerning Zen...we stuck on the 8GB version. No 6 or 32GB versions yet...! Why I think that this shows people's petition here in Greece and it's not satisfying. I heard that especially when it comes to player like Zen V Plus and Zen V (and that comes from a people that works in a store selling electronics and computers)... "people are bringing them like crazies back to as for refund or to give them a new one cause 50% of those players are faulty" Anyway...if someone has a different view on that matter i would be glad to hear it. I am not against Creative, i really do like the product but i just don't think it can reach the ipod classic.

When Creative had their harddisk players they are cheaper than the flash memory versions but there are several limitations to harddisk based players.
Firstly, a harddisk has moving parts and a small size harddisk used by the MP3 players would inevitably be more sensiti've and face a higher probably of damage. It all depends on how you plan to use the player. If you are going to place the player on a table while you listen to it then the harddisk based players would work fine. However, if you plan to be on the move while listening to your music then this type of activity would increase the possibly of harddisk damage. Just jogging or cycling with your harddisk based MP3 players may be enough to damage the harddisk and render the player unusable. Dropping it would indeed be a big no-no. However if the player is flash memory based, you can shake it, drop it (within a reasonable distance) and so on would not damage the player. You may scratch the exterior but that pretty much all the damage you would cause.
Secondly, because a harddisk player has moving parts, it would inevitable draw more power and thus you will need a huge and powerful battery in order to provide sufficient power and thus the harddisk based players are bigger and bulkier. The flash memory does not use as much power and thus the battery used can be smaller. Besides flash memory are thin and thus you can get smaller and lighter players which can fit nicely in the pocket.
Thirdly, the harddisk typically would have a lower Meantime Before Failure compared to Flash memory and thus it would mean the flash memory based players would typically last a lot longer.
The harddisk manufacturers from what I read are scaling down on harddisk for mp3 players as the prices of flash memory comes down and rendering the cost benefits of the harddisk redundant.
?However, in the end, the choice is pretty much yours.

  • IMovie is not responding, the cursor just keeps circling

I upgraded with the snow leopard, ilife, iwork. It was installed on 2/14/2010. I made one movie project and now I can't get into it. It comes up on screen but the cursor just keeps spinning and it will not respond.

First quit or force quit iMovie.
Now drag that preference file out to the desktop.  You are correct, the prefernece file is basically just a special kind of text file.
    Now try relaunching iMovie.
If that doesn't work, the next thing I'd try is to see if iMovie works with a different user account.

  • Zen 8GB, no power, won't turn on, won't cha

I am new to this forum and will appreciate any help that I receive. I just purchased a Zen 8GB (2/5/07). Yesterday it was fully charged and functioning properly. Today it will not turn on at all. No power light, nothing. Just a blank screen. It will not dock with my computer (no power). Anything I can try? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Had the same problem for the first time yesterday. Started working after resetting. Note that the files are NOT erased when doing this, so don?t worry about loosing them.

  • PCI DIO 32HS (6533) Suddenly giving "The device is not responding to the first IRQ level" error, and no longer functioning.

    Greetings NI folks,
I'm an oceanographer, and have an sidescan sonar data aquasition computer running Windows XP SP2, and NiDAQ 7.0 (Legacy). For several years, this machine has worked flawlessly, but today, I booted it up to test the system for an upcoming job, and I got some strange errors in our sonar program. I tranced the problem to our NI-6533 PCI-DIO-32HS card. I launched NI Automation Explorer to test that the card was responsive, and when I click the "test panel", I get an error: "The device is not responding to the first IRQ level." Continue (yes/no). If I click yes, I can test the digital i/o's, but nothing happens, and all the tests fail (nonresponsive). I tried moving the card to another PCI slot, tried forcing it to have a specific IRQ that was unused by anything else, and finally tried moving it to another computer that had never been used with the DIO card. I'm still getting the error, and the card is nonresponsive. I'm at the limit of my abilities, and would like to know if there's anything else I can do, or should we send the card back to NI for repair/diagnosis.
    Thanks.

  • I to use iphoto library manager to save corrupted iphoto and each time it saves some and the first time it brings up iphoto, iphone goes into "not responding" mode.  Using mac book pro, iphoto 9.5.1, and maverick 10.9.2.

I've had issues with my iPhoto "not responding" and as a result I am attempting to save my photos to an external hard drive using iPhoto library Manager but each time I start the program it saves some, and then when it starts iPhoto, iPhoto then goes into not responding mode. Using mac book pro, iphoto 9.5.1, and maverick 10.9.2. I have completed all of the photo library first aid steps several times, but it makes no difference, iphoto eventually goes to "not responding."  Initial issues started with Time Machine back ups stopping because of iphoto. Thanks......

Do you have a back up?
If you're just trying to recover the photos you can do that much more simply:
Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Look there for a Folder called 'Originals' or 'Masters'. (varies according to the version of iPhoto)
Your photos are inside - these are the originals as imported from your camera.
