Zen card reader or usb ho

Hey
first id like to say i love my 20gig zen touch, it has some very cool features and has only crashed once!!!!!!!! (unlike my friends ipods)
my problem is that i thinking about using my zen to back up photos from a digital camera
without having to go through the computer.
i've found card readers for ipods and found that the iri'ver has a built in usb host!
but i've found a big fat zero things for the zen. Am i wasting my time looking for something or is there something out there that will allow me to do it ? has creative thought about doing something? i think its a gopod idea with the way digital camera sales have been
look forward to hearing from you all
Cheers
TIm

You can use your Zen Touch to back up photos. However, you "will" need a computer. You have to use Nomad Explorer to transfer the photo files to your Zen. They will only appear on your Zen within Nomad Explorer. That is, you won't be able to tell they're there once your Zen is disconnected from your computer. There are no "card readers" or such that will achieve this.

Zap the PRAM and Reset the SMC, then try again.

  • Connect smart card reader over usb and access digital signature certificate

    Hi,
I got digital signature certificate stored in a smart card.I places smart card into card reader and plugged usb port of server.
I can see card reader in windows environment. My problem is to connect card reader and access digital signature certificate using java code.
I thinh it needs javax.smartcardio but i did not find necessary jar file for jdk 1.5.xx.
1- Where can i download jar fiel for javax.smartcardio for jdk 1.5.xx
2- Is there a blog or forum thread to help me to use smart card over usb?
    Thanks.

One of the beauty of Java is that when the Java VM does not let you do something (here: accessing a Smart Card), there is no way that a purely Java solution will add this functionality.
Hence, what you ask simply can not be done in pure Java (1.)5. Some machine-specific non-java code is required. And you did not specify your target.
Unless a jar file could contain machine-specific code (I don't know if this is the case, and I never made one such jar file), there seems to be no way a jar file could help.

  • Old extreme n, and usb media card reader

hey, i am trying to hook up an iogear usb media card reader, a usb memory stick, and a portable 2.5" hdd to the belkin mac mini usb hub, and the hub to the old airport extreme n base station.
the usb stick and the hard drive are recognized without any problems.
the media card reader shows up in the disks tab of the airport utility, but it doesn't show something is connected to the card reader when a card is added. it just keeps showing 0MB in all four slots.
usb hub is powered, card reader is not.
when i connect the reader to the AEBS directly i get the same result, so i don't think the hub is the problem, since it runs other two devices flawlessly.
usb card reader works fine when connected directly to any computer as well.
any ideas? is it not possible to connect a card reader to the base station?

    Unfortunately not.
The only devices that work are printers, disk drives and hubs.

"What about buying a PCI card like the Sonnet Tango (http://www.sonnettech.com/product/tango_2.html) and then getting a generic PC hub to mount in the bay and plug into the Sonnett card?"
    That's what I did.
It works fine except for one thing.
I can't use Option-boot. My mouse clicks don't get recognized correctly when I try to select a boot drive.
I'm pretty sure it's the hub. It has an NEC chipset according to ASP.

  • Faster card reader -- USB 3 rocks

Just a heads-up for those interested.  I got a USB 3 card reader yesterday (SanDisk ImageMate All-in-one, from B&H).  It seems to be much faster than my old Lexar FireWire card reader.  USB 3 has almost completely superceded FireWire in my practice.
The SanDisk reader is petite -- 1 x 4 x 12 cm.  That's without the USB 3 cable, which is long enough for desk use but gargantuan for portability.  I'll look for a smaller cable.
I selected the ImageMate because I needed a reader that accepts Memory Stick, SDHC, and Compact Flash.  It also accepts Micro cards.

I could take it to an Apple store.  Maybe I will do that.
Good to be sure of simple stuff.  Yes.  I connected this to a windows PC and it works -- at least as a USB 2 device.
Yes, the blue light does come on.
BUT, you gave me a big clue  here .....  This is a USB issue.  I just plugged it NOT into the USB 3 port on the mini but a USB 2 port on my monitor -- that is connected to the mini.  BINGO.  It works.
So, something with USB 3 is not supported here ...

  • Sd card reader & USB port (right side only) not working

I recently purchased a Macbook Pro 15" retina display with OS Moutain Lion. The SD card reader and USB port on the right side of the computer do not work. I've restarted the computer numerous times, tried to reimage the computer with the Control+R during restart (didn't allow for update because Mountain Lion was loaded on the system), and downloaded with the latest updates but they still do not work. I am currently deployed to Afghanistan so Apple Support calling me back isn't going to work. Any help would be appreciated.

    Hello :
    TNX for your reply.
Unfortunately, I do not own a 2 gig mem card to test with. What perplexes me is that when I watch device manager and open properties boxes for the USB dev, SMSC-2228 dev,  and the newly created disks, the Win XP drivers do indeed load, but watching it do so is sloooooooowwwwwww. Slow as in 3 - 5 minutes for the win drivers to load in place. Funny thing is, an xD mem card or Memory stick initialize, set up properly in a matter of at most 5 - 10 seconds or so. The only card type I have a problem with is THE MOST COMMON ONE, the SD card. Maybe a Micro/Mickey soft thing? Some info I found on the SMSC controller claims it supports the larger sd card sizes, so I think this is a Micro / Mickey soft thing. I guess I need to search for some better drivers somewhere.
    TNX for now

  • Motherboard hangs on POST when USB card reader is plugged in

Hi there, I am using the MSI Z77A-GD65 GAMING motherboard. I am using the following USB card reader which I bought from a local store: Amazon.com: Epraizer Universal Flash & SIM Card Reader/Writer, USB 2.0: Computers & Accessories
However, whenever I boot with this device, my BIOS is stuck at error code 'C6'. A check on AMI's website shows that this related is probably related to boot devices. I am able to boot fine with other USB devices plugged in, such as USB thumbdrive and USB hard disk.
At first, I thought it was a problem with my device but I can boot fine with the memory card reader plugged in on all my other computers. This makes me wonder if there is a firmware fault? I have tried disabling legacy USB and removing USB devices from boot order, but nothing helps. I have seen that in the forums some BIOS updates for some motherboards fix this issue, for example: **Official MSI Z77 Mpower Discussion Thread** - Overclockers UK Forums , where in one of the BIOS update the changes reads: Fix the issue that the system will hang 0xB4 or 0x99 when use customer usb cable or usb cardreaders.(USB cardreader: KAMA reader Tr, Akasa card reader).
So I was wondering if it's a common issue with MSI motherboards? Will there be a fix or my motherboard is now too old to be supported? I purchased this motherboard two months ago btw
P.S it works fine when I plug it in in Windows. I have tried both the ports in front and at the back, USB 2 or 3.

It is then obviously a compatibility issue with that particular card reader and that particular board model. As your board is long time EOL ("End-of-life") and has been replaced by two generations already there will be no further updates. What bios versions did you try already?

  • USB card reader problem with T430 laptop (Win 8)

    I have a Thinkpad T430, running Windows 8 with 16G memory.
I have recently encountered problems with a USB card reader. I thought the reader was faulty so I bought a new one, but that one fails as well. It makes no difference which socket it is in.
After being plugged in for a few seconds, the 'drives' the reader sets up start to flash in the 'Computer' window - it seems they are continually being disconnected and reconnected.
Disabling USB 3.0 in the BIOS makes no difference. One card reader is USB 2 and the other is USB 3
Changing the power settings so the USB selective suspend is disabled makes no difference.
I am pretty sure that it was OK a month ago when I last used a card reader (the machine is about 2 months old).
    What is going on?
    Any ideas?
    Thanls,
    Michael

    Ok Mr. Micheal,
One thing you can attempt to do is download the SmartCard Reader Driver for Windows 8 (64-bit) - ThinkPad on the Lenovo website. The path you need to take is listed below.
    1. Go to the Lenovo website (www.lenovo.com)
    2. Select the support link at the top of the page
    3. Your going to see for windows listed select the type of support you need, so select drivers and software
    4. Its going to ask for your machine information so enter in your machine type or your product ID
    5. Scroll down to camera and card reader and open the link
    6. Download SmartCard Reader Driver for Windows 8 (64-bit) - ThinkPad
    7. Follow the set up wizard and one the driver is installed reboot your machine
Please respond once this action is performed and let me know if this happens to resolve your issue. Thank you

  • Why does Lightroom 5.2 & my mac crash on import from a memory card reader?

    I'm running Lightroom 5.2 on my iMac (OS X v 10.7.5).
When I try to upload raw files from my Compact Flash memory card reader (Lexar USB 3.0) the files begin to download. When it gets part way through download the download stops and I get the spinning wheel of death.
No matter what I try I cannot get Lightroom to shutdown or even the computer to shut down.
My only option is to disconnect the computer from the power.
When I re-start the images are downloaded but I do have to start from where I had left off to complete the download.
Does anyone have any idea's what I should do?
This computer has never run Lightroom before so I do not have a previous version of it on the HD.

Go to this page: http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/camcorders/high_definition_camcor ders/vixia_hf_r20_black#DriversAndSoftware
    1. Download the drivers and/or other software required for the OS version you're running.
    2. Install the downloaded software/drivers.
    3. Restart your computer.
    4. Insert the memory card into your card reader.
    5. Copy the entire contents of the card to your media drive - do NOT  alter the folder structure.
    6. Launch FCP and use Log & Transfer on the files on your media drive.

  • Unable for format SD card with HFS using internal Card Reader

I'm suspecting that this must be a software/driver issue, but I'm stumped... MacBook Air Mid2012 with 10.8 and latest updates.
The symptom is the following: SanDisk 64GB UHS card in the SD Card slot. Formats fine both FAT and ExFAT. Attempting for format HFS (any combination of encrypted, case sensitive, etc), the card formats but can't mount. Repair fails too.
Now here's the kicker, put the same card in and external SD Card Reader (via USB), it formats HFS and mounts fine. Still can't mount via the internal reader though. Tried other SD cards, down to 4GB, same deal...
Hope someone has seen this before!
    Thanks

Just a followup, in case others read this thread.
The problem was a hardware issue, requiring the LogicBoard to be replaced.
A quick test to verify the problem is to insert a SD Card, run Disk Utility and Erase the SD Card. Any format (FAT, HFS, etc) will be fine.
Once the Erase is complete, run a Verify Disk. If you have LOTS of errors during the verify, then there is a problem.
    Thanks

  • When I plug in card reader it shows the device in finder.

Yes, when I plug the card reader into USB the device shows up in Finder and iPhoto. But nothing happens.

Which version of iPhoto are you using?
In iPhoto '11: Look for your camera’s icon in the Source list in the sidebar.  If the icon is there, click it. iPhoto should open in import view, and you can select the photos to import.

  • HT5172 My new Macbook Pro doesn't recognize my card reader (with a CF card inserted).

My new Macbook Pro doesn't recognize my USB card reader with a CF card inserted.  It works fine on my old Macbook Pro.
Do I need a new card reader?  USB 3 perhaps?
I would appreciate any input that you may have.  Thank you.

Hi, closereaching. Instead of spending 12 hours reinstalling your operating system and getting everything back up to date again, which probably won't accomplish anything, why not buy a $10 USB card reader for your Casio's SD card? Or (more expensive, but a much more elegant solution), an ExpressCard SD card reader that can stay in your computer all the time?

  • SanDisk USB 3.0 Card Reader does not work with OSX Mavericks.

Since updating to OSX Mavericks (10.9) My  USB 3.0 SanDisk "ImageMate All-in-One" Card Reader has begun to fail.
It all seems to work proper at first. The memory card shows up in finder and I'm able to browse the files. But when I try to transfer any files it un-mounts from finder and only transfers the first file.
This does not happen under previous OSX versions. I have tried on other computers since, so the card reader is fine.
My USB 2.0 card reader saved my life this time. It works totally fine.
Is this a known problem? Are you guys working on it?

  • USB memory card reader not working since latest security update

Hi, I have an iApp CR-e500 multi-format memory card reader; worked great prior to the latest security update. Now every time I plug it in I get the following errors in the console:
Oct 19 03:37:00 dachshund kernel[0]: USBF: 1496.818 AppleUSBEHCI[0x1b4d800]::Found a transaction past the completion deadline on bus 91, timing out!

The reader works fine on my office Windows laptop and my USB pendrive still works on my Mac, so the USB ports appear to be functional; they just don't like this thing anymore.
Was there a USB driver change? If so is there anything I can do to sort this? I suppose I could just buy a new card reader if someone can confirm one that works with the latest security update of 10.4.11, that would be great.
Alternatively if Apple could please loosen up whatever they tightened in their USB drivers that would be nice as well...

Disregard. Looks like it's the memory card I'm trying to mount; not working on the Windows machine either.
    Sorry!
