Zen died on Rebuilding???

I last used my Zen yesterday morning and it was working perfectly as usual.
Last night I turn it on and out of the blue it starts "Rebuilding", it does that when I reset it or it momentarily freezes so I'm not surprised.
But this time it freezes after 2 seconds of Rebuilding, the "yellow bar" moved for one second and that's it.
So I reset a few times to see if something changes but it does the same thing.
I went through the Recovery mode, even deleted everything because it's no problem if I have to put everything up again.
STILL it's not working.
What can I do??
Pleaaaaaaaaase Help.
THANK YOU.

Thanks. That's the first thing I did and it actually did not cost me a dime. You do have to pay for Customer Support over the phone, though. I'm very bummed out, actually. My Zen MicroPhoto was my only source of entertainment at work, and I really cannot afford another MP3 player.

  • Zen Vision M "Rebuilding&qu

Recently when i turned my Creative Zen Vision M, the screen showed the display message rebuilding with a time bar beneath it!? This time bar gets stuck everytime at around the 30% mark and nothing further happens. It is not possible to access any functions neither is it posible to turn the player off.Has anyone experienced this fault or have any information as to how to rectify it.Cheers all.Danny

Try using a paperclip and hit the reset button on the bottom of the player. it may rebuild again after that but shouldn't get stuck. i had this problem before and it was the result of a dead usb port. Hope this hel
    ps.

Please try formatting your player using the Creative Media Explorer software.
. Connect your player to your computer's USB port using the supplied USB cable.
    2. Double-click the My Computer icon on your desktop.
    3. Click the ZEN Media Explorer icon.
    4. Click the Settings and Information button and click the Tools tab.
    5. Click the Format button.
If it's still not working, you probably need to contact Customer Support for further assistance.

  • Zen Xtra Library Rebuild Prob

When ever my Zen Xtra is connected to a power source, regardless of whether or not I've turned it on, it goes into the Rebuilding Library screen. I've attempted to put the player into the Rescue mode and it doesn't do so, I hold down Reset and Play for quite some time and nothing happens except that the screen goes blank as soon as I hit Reset. This is greatly irritating. Also, it seems that whenever I upload a significant portion of music onto the player a day or two later it will have serious difficulty of some kind. If anyone has dealt with the same problem or has a solution please help.

You enter rescue mode by keeping play held down then pressing reset just once, continue to keep play held down. If it won't enter rescue mode then the player is faulty and you need to contact Creative Support, links for which are in the FAQ post.

  • Zen Xtra always rebuilding libr

I have a funny feeling it may be the first sign of a hard dri've failure. My Zen Xtra 60 gig is more often these days when turned on rebuilding its library. Upon the rebuild, I find that the unit doesn't have the couple of gig worth of tracks I put on it just recently. Each time it has done a rebuild, the tracks disappear, I put them back on, then they go again. The unit also shows albums and tracks that I deleted off the unit quite some time ago. Would a firmware update assist at all? Or can the unit be formatted?Trev.

My 60gb keeps doing it - I belei've it started happening around the time I bought a laptop and instaleld the latest creative drivers donwloads on it - could this be the case? I have heard rumours on other forums about firmware faults similar to this. Creative, can YOU please respond.....

  • My Micro Zen stuck in rebuilding libr

And I can't even try to save my files on my computer before I format all of the zen
Its stuck in the rebuilding library

Your English is fine, no need to apologize.
It sounds like you've taken the right steps to fix the problem (Accessing Rescue Mode and running Clean Up) I might try updating the firmware to the newest v.XX.XX and see if the freezing persists. If it does, I'd contact Creative Support for an RMA. Repeated freezing after troubleshooting is a sure sign of hardware failure. Good luck!

  • Zen stuck while rebuilding

    i have a creative zen (only )
    S/N is MAPF262 807M 0085 7H The model no is R33022 DVP-FL000
.the player is stuck while rebuilding,
    i went to recovery mode,
performed cleanup where the disk was scanned to 00% and the player froze
then i formatted it ,it got formatted
but when i select reboot it goes back to the rebuilding screen
,even reload firmware works but the computer displays a message stating that the firmware upgrade has failed
    please help!!!!

it came out of rebuilding yesterday morning after i formatted it once and booted up but all my data was gone....
When you format the player, all the contents will be deleted. There's really a hardware problem with the player and the only way to fix it is to send the unit for repair. Try contacting support on the link I provided above.

  • Why is Zen Xtra always Rebuilding Music Library??

Help! It seems every other time I turn my Zen Xtra on, it goes through a "Rebuilding Music Library" sequency. Anyone else have this problem or know what might be the cause? Thanks.

  • Hard Drive Died - After Rebuilding Wiki & Blog Not Working

My Snow Leopard Server hard drive died.
I did a clean install of Snow Leopard on a new drive.
I then created fresh accounts and settings similar to my old server manually.
I then copied over content from a backup.
I copied over the following folders:
    /Library/Web Server/Documents
    /Library/Collaboration
I made sure the settings looked correct (although I noticed that the collaboration GUI has changed from when I originally created the site back on 10.5, so maybe I missed something) and restarted the server.
Static pages of website works fine, mail works fine, etc.
But when I attempt to go to a blog or wiki page I get an animated gif showing the startup spinning gears with a message that says "Server starting up..."
Even the root web page "/groups" page just displays the Server starting up... message
Logs don't seem to be helpful.
I am thinking there is probably a folder or domain reference in one of the wiki plists that uses an index value instead of a folder path or something like that, so the server can't find the wiki content.
    Ideas?

    Figured it out.
Luckily I had the foresight to make a backup copy of the clean install colloboration folders before I copied my collaboration folders from my older server over.
    I noticed one key difference:
My files were owned by root (as that is how I copied them from backup)
And the clean install collaboration folders we all owned by _teamsserver
I changed the owner on my folders to _teamsserver, verified the appropriate r/w settings for the different sub-folders and propagated permissions down.
restarted the server, and all was well.

Did you try a disk cleanup from rescue mode?
also i remove my battery for a long time that will also erase all my songs anyone have this problem or know how to fix it i had this thing for about year and a half
No, removing the battery won't remove the songs. Be careful if you don't use your player for some time though. If you leave the battery like this in a discharged state it can be ruined.

  • Creative ZEN died....after ONE day of use

Okay, so I got this thing as a present for my birthday yesterday, I was really happy, it being my first mp3 and all. Well, I took EXTREMELY good care of this. But then, before I go to bed, I decided to add one more picture onto it. So, I plugged it into my USB port, as usual, but then the unthinkable happens. It shows the battery charge at the top right corner of the screen for a split second, then there's a small flash, then it died. I can no longer turn it on. AFTER ONE DAY OF USE!!! Thing is, I didn't even use it that much. PLEASE HELP!!! There's no way for me to get another one,. please, how can I make it turn on again!

Don't panic Get out the instruction booklet & a paperclip. If you can't find it download the Quick Start Guide? http://support.creative.com/manuals/? here & open it. Look at the diagram & find where the RESET hole is & push the paperclip in there tp reset the player. It should turn on. BTW Happy Birthday

  • Zen Microphoto Problems - Rebuilding Libr

I've so far had 3 ZMPs from Creative. My st one i dropped, my 2nd one froze up after the rebuilding library problem, and now my 3rd one is malfunctioning as well.
The 3rd ZMP has never been dropped, sccratched, or even touched because I have the Belkin case for it. When I put the music files into the player and select them to play, the music plays. But unfortunately, it dosent show the name of the song, album, or artist. Because I thought it was file corruption, I did a firmware erase and loaded the firmware. Then I couldnt get the computer to recognize it, so I used another computer to put the firmware in.
After that, my ZMP started the rebuilding library routine again. I redownloaded the firmware again, thinking that something else was wrong.
And alas, after that last firmware upgrade, my ZMP wont go past the creative logo.
Im sure that it isnt just a coincidence that I was given 2 bad players in a row.
    Any help would be appreciated

Have you tried using recovery mode?
Slide the battery into the player while holding the power switch towards the 'ON' direction.
If that doesn't work, contact costumer support:

  • DB Rebuild instructions

    Greetings
    SLES10.2
    ZCM10.3.4
I'm in the process of upgrading and I want to keep my DB as clean as possible going into the upgrade.
I've been trying to rebuild the DB. Following Novell Documentation
I once had to call Novell and open an SR for them to do this for me because the instructions have not been correct, to say the least.
I've gotten to the step where you do dbeng10 .....zen.db -n rebuild
    it's hung at a "press Q... " prompt.
I know there's something you have to do while this is going on but i'm not sure what.. can someone please assist me with this issue? I don't have the ability to call Novell again.
    Thank you!

I'm not a DB expert by any means, but I have been through this process a few times. You're 75% of the way there... What you have now, if I understand your situation correctly, is the ZCM DB open and what you do is keep that session OPEN until you run the unload command which is something like:
mkdir /tmp/dbreload/unload (create a temporary directory for the rebuilt DB to go into)
    /opt/novell/zenworks/share/sybase/bin32s/dbunload -c "UID=zenadmin;PWD=<PASSWORD>;ENG=rebuild" -an /tmp/dbreload/unload/zenworks_<ZONE NAME>.db (where <ZONE NAME> is the name of your ZCM zone, typically)
Open a new Putty (SSH) or Terminal session to run those two commands above while you keep that other one open.
You now have a "clean" copy of the DB in that tmp directory. Once that command is done, then you can press Q at that prompt and finish up the process:
Stop the dbeng10 screen by using 'Q' (without quotes)
cp /tmp/dbreload/unload/zenworks_<ZONE NAME>.db /opt/novell/zenworks/database/ (assuming you have a backup of the previous ZCM DB)
cp /tmp/dbreload/unload/zenworks_<ZONE NAME>.log /opt/novell/zenworks/database/ (assuming you have a backup of the previous ZCM DB log)
where /opt/novell/zenworks/database is the typical location on a SLES box with an EXTERNAL Sybase DB. If you're using the EMBEDDED Sybase DB, it usually goes into /var/opt/novell/zenworks/database.
/etc/init.d/sybase-asa start (start up the DB service)
I hope that helps! Nothing more terrifying the messing with a ZCM DB. :)

  • How do you ruin a ZEN, You turn it into a ZEN MX

Dear Sir, Are you a complete set of idiots. If I wanted to buy an Apple Itouch I would have done when I was visiting Hong Kong, I did in fact buy one for my wife as she likes Apple. Then My Creative ZEN Died on the flight back from Hong Kong. So I went out and replaced with a ZEN MX thinking it would be just like my old much loved ZEN. But boy have you screwed it up big time. But I had a simple Creative ZEN I have loved and carried around the world with me. It was simple and it never tried to control me like an Apple Ipod. My people I know love Creative MP3 players because they do not act like Apple and take control out of your hands. My old Zen had a wonderful function that I could drag and drop folders of music onto the SD card and could listen to them AS I WANTED TO LISTEN TO THEM. Now my new ZEN MX wants to TAKE CONTROL OF MY LIFE AND SORT EVERY THING INTO A LIBRAY. If I wanted to do this I would buy and apple and let it take over my life. PLEASE PLEASE tell me there is a simple fit to playing music from a folder like the old simple ZEN. If not I will have to post this ZEN MX back to you and go buy an APPLE ITOUCH instead. I like to make folders of my own music and with my old Zen could just copy to my SD card and listen to the music I like and play it the way I like. I am 45 years of old and have an extensi've music collection of around 4500CDS, the classical collection is around 000. Then I have my Audio Book Collection and my downloads from the BBC Iplayer. All I want is to play folders, I don't use Playlist and I don't do music styles. If this problem can't be fixed and I can't listen to a folder without making a Library, then I am soon to be an EX CREATIVE USER and be an Apple user. Regards John I long time creative user, but maybe not for long.

I completely agree. I've been a Creative customer but when my Zen failed I bough a Zen MX thinking it would be as simply as the original to operate regarding the transfer of music. They really screwed up by changing my preferences during the transfer. I don;t understand why they don'y have an update option that lets the MX user continue to use Media Explorer. The Creative Central software was a big mistake and will cost them loyal customers. I'm waiting for an email response from their tech support and if they can't help me I'm sending my MX back to Amazon. Unfortunately I hate the thought of buying an Ipod but it is USER FRIENDLY. Also hate the idea of no telephone or even chat support. SHAME ON THEM.
I went from a ZEN Micro to the ZEN MX. It was fine when I only had less that GB of music and only one playlist. At that point it was easy just to tolerate the clumsiness of Creative Centrale. My only problem is, I have now had the player for almost two years, and I finally started loading large quantities of music onto it. Now I'm finding that many of the features I loved about my Micro (namely, nati've sync compatibility with Windows Media Player) are non-existent, and that Centrale is nothing more than a cobbled-together piece of software for converting playlists into antiquated file types (DOS 8.3 ShortFileName). If I hadn't gotten this player as a gift 9and had the extra cash) I would seriously consider replacing it with the new ZEN Style, which has finally done away with the Centrale software and has gone back to the tried and true drag-and-drop sync method.

  • ZEN MICRO FRO

    Hey Forum
I've had my cute little white zen micro for almost a year now. We were the perfect couple, we went everywhere together. It went with all my clothes, it seemed to never run out of space, it fit snugly in all my jeans, we were so happy, but then, about a month ago, shock! horror! my little zen died on me I was walking down the street and as I changed a song it froze and then went blank. Since then I haven't been able to get it to work, all it does is display the 'creative' logo and then just illuminates a bit and thats it. I don't know whether its a common problem or not? If anyone else has experienced this kind of thing, please reply, the player is going to run out of its warranty in less than a month! PLEASE HELP !Thanksanna
