Zen Extra harddisk prob

My Zen Extra will only go into rescue mode when turned on. If I then proceed to try a "Format All" or a "Reload OS" it says I have a harddisk problem. I have tried to "Clean Up" but it doesnt do anything, it just sits there in recovery mode. I have tried to reload my firmware, but with no result, as it takes longer than the life of the battery to load (it sits there with one bar filled, and doesnt change for hours) and It refuses to let me try it while plugged into the charger.
What should I do?

alright i just tried the newest version of the firmware for the umpteenth time and SURPRISE! it works. i dont have to reinstall it everytime the silly thing fails a transfer, but it still fails transfers after a few files. any ideas?

• Jukebox zen extra reboot prob

My 40 gB Jukebox Zen Extra reboots fairly frequently, no matter how gently I handle it. The simple act of putting it into my pocket can cause it to reboot. I see no reference to this problem in the FAQ. Has anyone else had this problem? I've only had the player since February of this year.

I contacted Creative's support people via e-mail. They suggested that it was a firmware problem. I uninstalled the original firmware and downloaded and installed the updated version from their website, per their recommendation.
Took the player out with me this morning, and it still seems to have the same problem. Recommendations would be welcomed.

• 40GB Zen Xtra Harddisk Prob

I've had my Zen since January and its been brilliant, took a while to get here due to middle-man company but great nontheless. Well, till today however; I was out with the Zen yesterday when suddenly the battery died, first time its happened but it didn't bother me. Charged it today and then went to turn it on to access my music, much to my dismay it stalled on loading up the mp3 player, pausing on the EAX screen. After about 2 minutes it loaded up the Rescue Mode screen, I tried rebooting it. Same problem, I tried cleaning it - nothing happened. I tried reloading the OS - 'Harddisk Problem'. I eventually after trying to update the firmware which didn't change a thing did the unholy task of formatting the disk ... again 'Harddisk Problem'.
Now I've contacted the company I bought it from AND Creative over this problem and I'm fearing its going to have to be sent back at the very least. Which isn't exactly the best scenario seeing as I'm heading to London next week, but anyway, if anyone knows of any way this can be fixed or if the the reason is quite obvious, please leave a post =)
Cheers.

I've actually just read up on a site about this problem and scarily enough it was suggested a bit of brute force or shaking of the player may be advisable. I tried my hand at holding it at arms left and twisting my wrist from side to side, the other more drastic technique was to place the Zen on a surface, hold it, and give it a sharp tap on the side. The latter proved more effecti've and the annoying catching noise ceased to continue.

• Zen Xtra Harddisk Prob

Whenever I boot up my MP3 player it goes straight to rescue mode. From here no matter what option I pick it comes up with 'Harddisk Problem' and goes back to the rescue mode menu. I have had it for 3 years now and I take very good care of it.
It is out of warranty so a replacement cannot be sent out or it fixed for free.
Any suggestions?

well maybe you have a harddisk promblem, Sorry to sound repetiti've, I think you should go to customer service and see if its a problem that can be fixed, at worst they may ask you to buy another HD....

• Zen Sleek Harddisk prob

Does anyone know how much it costs to have the hard disk replaced on the Zen Sleek? I bought the 20 gig player last Christmas and it froze up on me a couple of weeks ago. Cannot get it out of recovery mode. I am a little ticked off that a 250.00 player would just stop working and of course my warranty has expired. The only solutions that I can find are:? smack the thing around till it works again and send it in for repair. I am hesitant to beat up my mp3 player and I really don't want to mail the thing off to who knows where for repair. Any ideas? Thanks?un-happy camper:angry:

Yes I have. I have hit that reset button soooo many times. I tried thumping on it too, but, I am afraid I might do it too hard. At this point thought I am not sure what I have to lose.Shannon

• Zen Extra to pc connection prob

I've been using my zen extra for a while until suddenly when I connected it to my pc it wasn't recognized. My pc made this sound that means that the connection didn't work or something like that. The Nomad explorer in "my computer" also said that it was not connected. I tried downloading a new driver (non of them worked) and re-installing the stuff that was on the disc it came with. That obviously didn't work either. I was then told by a friend to do the clean disk thing, which didn't do anything. I don't know what is going on so some help would be greatly appreciated.

I also have problems with my ZEn 8GB. I believe the software is not up to par and the stuff from Creative is not very well done.
Within a few minutes with my IPOD Nano, I was off and rochin' with firmware AND software updates - no flippin' issues like I have had with this ZEN 8GB.
To bad it is a present for my son
!!! Might be buying him an Apple product as well so I don't spend precious time figuring out how to get around the Creative software and firmware issues!!
Good luck to you!

• Its saying i have a harddisk prob

everytime i start up my mp3 player (nomad jukebox zen extra) it goes into rescue mode... and when i select one of the options such as (reload os) it says harddisk error what do i do? do i just send it in for support?

Ummm I tried this technique with my Zen Micro and surprisingly it worked. If you listen carefully you might hear some fuzzy noises coming from within the hard disk. Just bang your Zen against a hard surface. This does work. As soon as you turn it on, start banging and it will go through the screen and play your files normally.
You are incredible. I have a Sleek and I love it but , Yes it said hard dri've problem. I tried everything but then I found your message. I turned the unit off and then as I turned it back on by reset as it was going on I gently banged the bottom until it came back on. One time and it worked. THANK YOU. AMAZING. Marvin

• Creative zen touch Major prob

I tried allof this ----->Creative Zen Firewire / USB 2.0 / Zen NX / Zen Xtra / Zen Touch
Ensure that the Jukebox Zen is turned off. Hold down the Play/Pause button and insert a paper clip into the Reset hole on the Jukebox Zen. Remove the paper clip from the Reset hole. The Jukebox Zen will enter the Recovery (Rescue) Mode (release the play/pause button) and the following options will be displayed:
).Clean Up (Performs a disk scan on the players harddisk)
2).Format All (Formats the players harddisk - Note: all contents will be lost)
3).Reload OS (Reloads the Operating System on the Jukebox. Note: Reloading your OS, will not effect the contents of the files stored on your Jukebox Zen)
4).Reboot (Reboots the device).
and it did not work,
the problem happened when i was playing music, i then paused it and turned it off, and it froze on the ( shutting down ... ) screen
and cant get it from that, this happened with my zen extra lots of times, and my mates zen touch..........
i've spent 300 euro on this and this has happened before, so it be really good if you can help me?

• Creative Zen Extra stuck in Res

I accidentally took my Creative Zen Extra through customs, and so now its stuck in Rescue Mode. Whenever I try the 'clean up' option, nothing happens. The other 3 options 'format all' 'reload OS' and Reboot do nothing. On the format all and reload OS it says harddisk problem. What can I do to save my player?

out of nowhere, i tried to turn it on. I took out the battery, and the cover was off. I replaced both, plugged it into the wall...and it turned on like normal, and has continued to function as it should...i have no idea how it happened. All my music was still there as well. It sync'd with my cpu fine also

• Zen Extra "USB Device Not Recognized" ??? HEL

Hi all,
I had a MPIO 20 gb MP3 player wich was stolen. No biggy, I took advantage of it and upgraded to a Nomad Jukebox Zen Extra 30gb. It look and feel nice and the navigation seems really easy. Where it gets more difficult is the "simple" pluging in!!! No matter wich USB port I use on my PC, I always get the "USB Device Not Recognized" message. Front port, motherboard port nor soundcard port (Audigy2) dont work.
Any advice, I really need help here!
Thx for your time,
Jacq

I just bought a Zen Micro and had the same problem, the issue is with the USB cable. I had an extra cable from my digital camera and using it, the Zen Micro was recognized immediately. I've seen the issue posted here by other people too. You could try to return the player and chance getting another one with the same problem. If I didn't have a spare one, I would have just picked up a new one up at Radio Shack or Best Buy...

• Zen Extra 30

Hello I have just updated my Zen Extra 30GB unit to the latest firmware 2.0.03.
I have also updated to Media Source 5.0.38 twice and still notice the following.
)?? When I attach my player to my pc via usb, it is very slow to recognise the player, it takes approximately 2 minutes before the files are listed to screen.
2)?? When I search my music library the results are almost instant, not so when I search my mp3 player it can take 5 minuets or more and this is only using about 6GB of the 30GB available.
3)?? Also I have noticed that when selecting my mp3 player in the sources pane Genre, Artist & Album panes are no longer available, but are when viewing my music library.
I also have a second Creative unit, a Zen NX 30GB and I don?t have any of the above problems with this unit. Strange?
Using Windows XP Pro with all updates installed. Windows Media Player installed and rolled back to version 0 to enable creative firmware update.
Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Pat D.

What you are expierencing are the results of the PlayforSure firmware in your Zen Xtra. Its just sucks, I wish had not upgraded. The only way to make your computer sync faster with the Zen Xtra is to place your music in folders. For example group your music by Album, Genere, or Artist. This will lesson the amout of items it must load at startup and in windows.Also...make sure?you are using USB 2.0 controllers?in your computer, it sounds like you may be?using .. Or is 5 min loading 6 GB an exageration? At any rate. The PlayforSure firmware is alot?slower than the plain firmware, and you will loose some functionality with Media Source.Message Edited by TimT on 0-6-200708:54 AM

• Zen Extra: How can I copy albums back to my hdd in the right ord

I have a Zen Extra 60 G. Trying to copy albums back to the hd of my computer the songs are always in alphabetical order. Is there a way to copy them in the right order as they are on the original CD?Thank you very much.Rainer

Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Select the pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and set the Kind to Original.
Iphoto does not convert the files to JPEG. Your RAW is protected. What happens is that iPhoto makes a JPEG preview of the file. IF you drag from the iPhoto Window or export with the Kind: Current you get that Preview. Exporting as Original will get the RAW.

• Zen Extra Not Detected after upgr

Hi All,
I have a 30GB Zen Extra with firmware .03.02 and an XP ServPak 2 laptop with all current critical updates. This morning I upgraded from MediaSource Organizer 2.0.07 to Creative MediaSource Player/Organizer 5.0.38.
When I run MediaSource Player/Organizer 5.0.38 it does not detect my Zen Extra (it says "player not connected"). When I run the old version of MediaSource Organizer (version 2.0.07) it detects the player just fine.
I tried to look thru the Knowledge Base but all of my search terms did not provide any useful answers.
Any way to get MediaSource Player/Organizer 5.0.38 to connect to my Zen Extra?
And why is the old version of MediaSource Organizer still on my system? Shouldn't the upgrade delete it's
Thanks!
Advait

must be a common issue. Same thing happens to me with my Zen Sleek.
What I'm going to try is deleting ALL Creative stuff and starting over. It is probably a software bug. I don't expect it to work, but I will give it a shot.
