Zen M Computer Recognition Probl

I've done searches and have tried to do things that people have suggested to fix the problem but I'm having no luck. The problem i'm having is that everytime i connect to my MP3 player to the computer USB port, it does absolutely nothing. All it does it turns on my MP3 player. About a week ago i've never had this problem. I'm using the same computer and everything else. I've used the Mp3 player on several computers, would this cause a problem? I can't seem to figure out why this is happening. My computer doesn't even see it in "Device Manager". Are these things under any kind of Creative warranty? I bought it about 7 months ago.

This solution worked for me but you have vista so hopefully it does it...

  • Zen Vision :M Recognition Probl

First of all please dont refer me to charge my Zen to full or look at the knowledge base because these arent the soloutions to my problem.
After i reset my Zen once when it wasnt responding, it failed to recognise that it was plugged into the computer. It charges and says its docked, but doesnt appear in my computer and media explorer simply stays greyed out. Windows Media Player doesnt recognise its existence either. After looking at the knowledge base the only thing of any interest to my problem was to look in device manager and unistall what it clearly stated as creative zen from the device manager list. After doing so i searched for hardware changes like prompted and ever since when plugged in, my computer tells me thats its found new hardware, listing it as a MTP Device and nothing more. In my Device Manager its listed as a MTP device and has a constant error mark over it showing that it has no drivers or software with it.
A reinstall of all the software included with the Zen hasnt helped and as i know no way of formatting the Zen without it being connected to the computer im stuck in a tight space.
Another fact is while it is connected it doesnt stay connected fluidly it constantly prompts the computer that its new, the on screen arrows are always moving round and the found new hardware bubble is constantly renewed.
Its a hard problem to solve and im a bit stumped. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.Message Edited by jonpoynton on 08-08-20070: AM

I've discovered a way around this mess!
It may be back to basics but its like starting again. Dont worry about reinstalling your software leave it all on format your zen by holding the power switch left and keeping it held there, place a paper clip or the like in the reset hole and you should aget a menu select format all.
WARNING, this will get rid of all your data.
When rebooting your Zen it will still have custom backgrounds EQing etc, you need to get rid of this by going to system / reset settings.
Now when you plug in your device it will come up with the formiddable found new hardware MTP Device. Gi've it a few seconds however and it will show, Your new hardware has been successfully installed and is ready to use. You can then open Media explorer/ sync manager etc and be on your way!
So im afraid the only soloution is to reset everything to the max and start again.
Hope this helps, i know alot of people have had similar problems.Message Edited by jonpoynton on 08-08-20070:46 AM

  • Zen Sleek recognition probl

Hey guys,?I recently got a Zen Sleek off eBay (probably a mistake but anyway...). The player itself is fine and holds some of the previous owners music. However, I've installed the CD onto my laptop (Windows XP, SP2), yet when I try to connect the player to use Media Explorer, the player cannot be found. I've had a look through the Device Manager and I assume that the player is stated as 'MTP Device'. I've tried to install drivers from the CD and even had a look at some on this site but with no joy. Anyone have any ideas before I send it back? Thanks?TraceyMessage Edited by macca83 on 09-9-20070:6 PM

What firmware is your Zen Sleek running? [Menu-> System-> Information: Version______ ]
    I don't have a Zen Sleek [I've got the Zen Sleek Photo], but I believe that you'd need [url="http://us.creative.com/support/downloads/download.asp?MainCategory=23&nRegionFK=&nCountryFK =&nLanguageFK=&sOSName=Windows+XP&region=&Product_ Name=ZEN+Sleek&Product_ID=3599&modelnumber=&driver lang=033&OS=0&drivertype=0&x=4&y=">Creative Zen Sleek PlaysForSure Firmware 2.0.03 (2.34 MB)[/url]

  • Zen Touch recognition probl

well a while ago i tried to install the firmware version 2..0 and it crashed my comp mid way through. i finally installed it with another comp. after that mediacentre and nomad explorer doesnt recognise the player has been connected, only windows media has. is there anything i can do to fix this?

Nomad Explorer doesnt support this new firmware and for MediaSource (if this is what you mean) you need a plugin which can be found on Support site.

  • How many times can you format a zen xtra without causing proble

I had many transfer problems due to id3 tagging done through ripping cds using windows media 9 before i got mediasource software.i found most of my problem were solved by formatting the zen which i did many times over past month until i got it right. I have over 0gs or music on computer thus no problem transferring it to zen after formats. I have had to reburn some cds to mediasource and may have to in future.could this formatting, retransferring of the zen hard dri've cause mechanical problems down the road if its done too many times?

Nope, the hard dri've is designed to be used. Don't worry

  • MAJOR Zen Vision: M 30GB PROBLE

First, when trying to recover my computer after some problems, the software no longer worked with my ZEN. I didn't want to install another Service Pack and potentially lose everything else I had, so I just started using Windows Media Player to add music. No problem. Here's where the fun began.
The other night, while playing music, my player froze while shuffling to another song. I mean, it froze in the middle of shifting from one song to another. I had never seen that before. I was concerned when I saw it, but I figured I would just restart and everything would come back up. After it "rebuilt" the library, I was surprised (to say the least) to see that my player had reverted back to the original factory settings. Playlists, videos, pictures and music were all gone according to the player. Yet, when I went to MUSIC LIBRARY, all the albums were there but the artwork was gone. When you would play a song, the screen just read "Select Music to PLAY from the Music Library" as if no music was on the player. Very odd, but it can't get any worse than that, right? Read on.
After a couple of days of this, I finally decided to see what I could do to fix it. I connected the Zen to my computer, only to not have it recognized at all, and, freeze after 2 minutes each & everytime after I reboot/restore. I've found the XNJB program for my iMac instead of changing the whole system around on my PC, and it looks like this would work beautifully with the ZEN. Therefore, what I'm looking for is a way to completely reformat the Zen without the aid of a computer. I would use the new Rescue tool, but since my PC doesn't recognize it, that doesn't help me.
I fought it for so long, but Steve Jobs & Apple have finally won me over. I installed music on a friend's 80GB iPod and pretty much fell in love. I will miss the FM radio and voice recorder on the ZEN, but its a small price to pay for FREE SUPPORT (are you listening, Creative?) and tons of official & aftermarket accessories. Once all of my options are gone, and I have no choice but to turn to Creative for help, pay for their "support", send back my Zen, etc., I will purchase an 80GB iPod for what I paid for a 30GB ZEN Vision: M. Creative, I gave you a try, and I always support the underdog, but Apple's on top for a reason.
I've already paid for Creative's help which was anything but helpful, so I'm leaving it up to everyone out there. If anyone has any ideas on what I can do to try and recover this $300 paperweight on my desk, please let me know at: [email protected]
    Thanks!

PS - Should I get the 80GB iPod Classic or the iPod Touch? I know there's 0X the storage space on the classic, but the iPod touch has Wi-Fi web browsing. Let me know!

Warranty? You can sell it to someone too. Ebay might work!
I would get the 80GB classic. The touch doesn't have as much storage and I think the price is just ridiculous.
    Good luck with your search!!
(did you contact costumer support to see if they could fix your Zen?)

  • Zen Vision:M Recognition Prob

I am using WMP, XP SP2, and every time i try to connect the Zen to the Computer it Recognizes it, Says found a new MTP Device, and trys to install the drivers for it. Every time Windows trys to install the drivers I get an error that says the system can not find the file that is needed to install the driver. If anyone could show me what file i need to download or send the file to me vai email I would greatly appreciate it. Unless there is an easier way of fixing it, I would like to know that way as well. Thanks

    From the thread here: http://forums.creative.com/creativelabs/board/message?board.id=dap&message.id=75634
When the manager asks for driver installation:
-- Choose "No, not this time" when it asks if you want to connect to Windows Update
-- Choose "Install from a list or specific location"
-- Choose "Don't search. I will choose the driver to install"
-- At the list of hardware types, choose Uni'versal Serial Bus
-- If no drivers could be found, choose "Have Disk"
-- Browse to the following location and choose "c:\Windows\inf\wpd0.inf"
NB: If you can't see the inf directory in your Windows folder, you need to show hidden files and directories. You can change this by going to Tools>Folder Options>View>Show Hidden Files and Folders
-- Select the bolded driver (it should be a MTP driver)

  • Creative Zen products and "Frozen" probl

    Hi,
I'm one of many owners of the zen micro who faces this very problem. I don't really want to caveman it but it seems like creative is intent on not really helping as I don't see a FAQ or an answer to this oh-so-common problem anywhere on the website or doesn't give tech support on products older than 6 months (which is a very short amount of time for an electronic device that costs almost as much as month of my rent). Would you please be so kind as to indicate me the proper technique to fix this?
Because you see I bought an iPod following the departure of my zen micro and it's been working really well so far but I'd really like to make use of the money I spent previously as a backup player and I don't think it's fair that a problem so common seems to get ignored.
A brief example, early playstation 2's optic dri've were a major problem, most of them broke in x years/months/days. This was a known problem which anyone using a playstation 2 of that generation would experience at some point. I bought a PS2 second hand which managed to work for 3 years and bam the optic dri've stops working. I call Sony and I get told "mail us the unit, this is known problem and we will fix it for you". Granted it did cost me 5$ to mail the unit, I was very satisfied with Sony's service and now own a PlayStation 3.
My Creative Zen Micro breaks in a common way and I get told to either smash it hard and have it work for a few more weeks, or I mail it, pay for pieces, repair and mail-cost to have it work for... less than 6 months apparently? I am lost for words, I truly am! Please provide us with a solution because I believe most people using a Creative facing this problem do NOT intend to buy another Creative product.
Thanks for reading this long text, but I believe it's a fair review of the situation,
    Khanate

    Hey,
If you tried it on a friend's computer and you're still having problems then it may be a problem with the Zen. Before you call or e-mail tech support, here is what they will tell you do to first before they really get in depth with helping you. Go into Rescue Mode (there is an explanation on how to do this at the top of the forum) and do a disk clean up. After that, try it. If that doesn't work then click the reload OS option which will take the firmware (like windows to your PC) off the Zen. Don't worry you can easily put it back on. Go to Support>Downloads>select Zen Touch, etc, etc. and download the latest firmware and run it. Hopefully that will fix it....
I had some connection problems myself with my ZT as soon as I got it as well. and simply reflashing the firmware fixed and now I love my Zen. I hope everything works out for you.

  • Zen Xtra computer Softw

    Hello,
please help me,i need the software for my new PC of the Zen Xtra that i can't find and put to work.
I have my player full of music and i want it to go to the PC but i have no Software and i dont now where to get it.What id the name of the file,is it a Driver,aplication,etc...........
    Thanks to you all

You need the application, probably the nomad explorer the file can be downloaded from the creative support section on creative.com the file you are after is probably NMEX_PCApp_3_0_0.exe i dont hvae any experiance with the zen xtra so i cant say for sure. if you have lost the software it is probably a good idea to download the drivers as well to make sure your computer will recognise it properly.
    the driver file name is
    JB3_PCWDRV_US__26_02.exe
but have a look under the download section of support and see what looks right.

  • Zen microphoto-computer does not detect it, help ple

I got my zen microphoto for christmas, so i have had it less than a month. a few days ago the screen froze on me while i was looking for music to listen to. i had been listening to it for about an hour or so, the album once done and i went to get somehting else to listen to and it froze. I tried plugging it into the computer and that didn't make a diffrence. i couldn't shut it down, turn the lock on nothing. but it did make noise when touching the arrows and stuff. just didn't do anything. i let the battery go dead. then i plugged it into the computer and charged the battery. when i turned it on i got the page where you can reboot. so i rebooted and that was it. the last option of the four. it rebooted and i could listen to music, battery charges.
I notice when i plug it into the computer the little charge icon is over the battery and flashing and the battery charges but i don' tget the picture of the usb connection to the comptuer that would show up before when i plugged it in. also the computer doesn't make the little noise that it used to either when i plugged it in. zen creative says i need to plug in my device, windows media player doesn't see it either.
i tried reinstalling the creative stuff, turn off the player and take out the battery and all that, and i cleaned it (first option) and then rebooted (last option). i didn't do the two in the middle, reformating and the firmware thing.
if anyone can help me that would be great and much appreciated.
    thanks-alex

snoweagle-you are the best. thank you so much. still wasn't really sure what you are talking about with the SP (service pack) stuff. but i went to downloads for zen micro and there were three options. took the first application download. downloaded it, installed it, restarted my computer...and it works. i have the docked word with the usb icon on my screen and i can open up and edit my music. (haven't tried to import something yet but i'm sure i'll be able to) i didn't know that i had to keep up with the new downloads and such. thank you so much. i was on the verge of tears...thank you and i hope you are around for awhile in case i have other questions. thank you thank you thank you-alex

  • Zen Vision:M Import Probl

I just got my new zen vision:M a few days ago and when I connected it to my computer it wouldn't pop up at all, even after I downloaded all the software from the CD's so I ended up updating the drivers which made it so the computer would actually detect it... But now.. I have a different problem, when I go to the ZEN Vision:M Series Media Explore and click " Add Media" and then add all the media I want on it then click next and then the import screen pops up and it just sits there.. Sooo I couldn't add any of my tracks or anything, however I did go to my computer and then went to " My Zen" and just copied and pasted some stuff but I still really want to know why can't I add music and files from the Zen Media Explore?? With my other zens it seemed a bit more convenient to import them through the Media Explore, I also tried going to windows media player, I believe I have version 0 or and my player can't be detected there either for syncing.
    Thanks

i am not real smart about these things, but i just bought vision m and am running vista, i had many probs some like yours, when i called in they said you can't use the cd that came in the package, you have to install from the web site. first for the zen, then for the components ie: library? rec play for sure media explorer. etc. i suggust u contact zen, cause i am not sure at all if this applies.

  • Zen micro overheating/noise probl

After a year and a half of my zen micro working almost perfectly, I turned it on the other day and it started making all kinds of wierd noises as if I were tuning through the radio. I can still work my way through all the on-screen menus on my zen and the music still plays, yet the odd noise is way to overpowering to make the player usefull. It isn't the headphones b/c they work fine anywhere else. At the same time, the player also?overheats quickly?whenever I charge it, and i have no clue how to fix it. I have tried selecting Clean-up, Reboot, and Reload OS/ Firmware in recovery mode and yet nothing seems to fix it. Any suggestions?

I am having the same problem with my Zen Sleek Photo!?Though it's not the first time and earlier it has been solved by pushing the Reset-button, but now this doesn't help!?When I use the paper-clip to press it, I feel that the button is pressed, but the only thing happening is that the blue light on the on/off-button disappears for a few seconds, then it reappears. I have also tried holding Play/pause while pushing the Reset, also tried holding it in for like 30 seconds or so, but still no luck!?I have approximately 4 (5?) gigs of music loaded into it, and it would be one heck of a job to get it all in again.
I can also not gain contact with the player by connecting it to a computer - nothing happens ... No icon in my computer or anything!

  • Zen Micro voice recording probl

I borrowed my roommate's Zen Micro to record some li've voice tracks. I recorded fine, and I am able to listen to them on headphones with the Micro.
The problem I am having is getting these tracks to a place on the computer where I can can make the tracks into a disc. I downloaded the software for the player from the disc that my roommate has twice now, with the same results. The Zen Micro media explorer does not recognize the player when it is plugged in, and neither does the Creative Media Source software. Windows Media Player (verion ) does recognize it, and I can download the tracks, but when I try to play them back, it just scrolls through each one and will not actually play them.
So, I have tried dowloading the software, removing it and downloading it again. I tried the old version of Media Player, with the result being that I could not view the player at all, so reinstalled version . I am running XP with SP2.
Any and all suggestions would be appreciated, as these recordings are for a gift!

Yes, you can put the recordings onto your computer in WMA format. The sound quality is great for what I use it for.

  • New Computer Soundblaster Probl

I've just received my new compter with soundblaster audigy 4. My speakers are working perfectly fine but my mic isn't. Bear in mine that I know almost nothing about sound and soundcards. On my old computer to use my mic all I did was plug the green wire to the green socket and the pink wire to the pink socket. On my new comp I am getting sound through the headphones but when I use the mic it makes no noise or recognition that any sound is being picked up. Which socket should it be and also any other things that may be causing the problem. It is not the mic as I have just tested it in my other comp andd it works fine.
Any help would be greatly appreciated =)

All the ports on the front of the soundblaster box are much too large to accept the wires from my headhphones. They can plug directly into the soundcard at the back and I receive noise but I cannot use my mic at all, no idea if it is the correct port or if I need to configure options on the soundblaster.

  • Zen Touch has connection probl

    Hello,
I have my Zen Touch for about a month now, great thing, but now I have a irritating problem. Everytime I connect my Zen with the USB cable, and I want to open 'this computer' it doesnt do anything, except for showing the little flashlight
    http://img474.imageshack.us/img474/650/flash7qn.jpg
When I open 'creative mediasource organizer', click on 'import tracks', then 'this computer' wont open also. Can anyone help me because on this way I cant do import songs to my Zen anymore.
    best regards,
    bram

    No bother!
Connect your player up to the power source, as if you were going to charge it. Make sure it is turned off! There's a wee hole on the side of the player, near the 'random' button. Push a paper clip down that and hold the 'play button until the screen wakes up. You should now be in recovery mode. Now scroll down to 'clean up' and there you have it! It doesn't take too long. When you connect it up to the computer next, it should update the library information- just click on my computer when it's back to normal and you *should* be ok...
