  • IS the Zen Media Explorer available as a separate install

Am wondering if the Zen Media Explorer is available as a separate download anywhere. Up till now I have been able to explore all the software for the Creative Zen using the compatability wizard, but now the conflicts in the DemoShield installer software have become too much of an issue even with that. I can install the software from my partner's Micro Photo, which uses a far more up-to-date version of of the DemoShield software, but that still leaves me without the Media Explorer for the Zen - and the features only available via that console, such as personal organizer. If the Zen Media Explorer is available as a separate installer, it would enable one to avoid the errors caused by the outdated and incompatible DemoShield installer.
All this does make me wonder why the installer software was not updated when it was re-marketed out here in Australia. The Creative Zen hit our shores a few months after the Micro Photo, and yet DemoShield software is about two and half years older (created in 200!) - why was it never updated so that such problems could have been completely avoided?

Zakhana, you raise a good point about not having to use InDesign on the Mac to submit your app. It makes sense that DPS App Builder works only on a Mac since a Mac is required to create the Apple certificates and submit the app. Apple doesn't allow users to do either of those tasks on a Windows machine. But if you build your folios using a Windows computer, you should be able to use the Mac to sign in to the DPS App Builder directly rather than having to go through InDesign. As you mentioned, you can authorize your Mac, submit your app, and then deauthorize the Mac, but that's extra work.
This Create App workflow for Creative Cloud members also makes updating an app difficult. I'll see if there's a way to improve the Creative Cloud workflow on Windows and let you know what I find out.

  • Sleek and Zen Media Explorer Track Listing Order.

    Hey all,
Been lovin' my Sleek for the last 2 months with just one, minor, issue; today I got a little frustrated so I'm here to ask you about it.
Normally I rip CDs using the Creative Media Organizer and then use the Zen Media Explorer to "import" and add the new songs to my playlist. Unfortunately in the ZM "Edit Playlists" window, the upper left window (titled "Creative Zen Sleek") has a list of folders by artist, where I would much prefer to list folders by album name.
For example I might see Beatles in the "B" section, but then a different album might have been listed as "The Beatles" so it's in the "T" section. A lot of my albums are compilations with many different artists playing songs I'm not totally familiar with (jazz for example) and when I see a name I have no idea what song it refers to.
Is there a way to change that Manage Playlists window so it displays the album name instead of the artist name? I've tried looking in settings, etc., but nothing obvious leaps out at me.
    <IMG src="http://www.us-picks.com/zenplaylists.jpg">
Please don't tell me to use Windows Media Player to do the transfers; it's counterintuiti've to me and takes longer.
    Thank you,
    D.

I think the folder structure you're seeing in ZME (\"Music"\artist name\album name\tracks) is part of how Microsoft organizes MTP-type players (including all US Sleeks); I have the same structure in my 2.x-firmware Micro. There's no way to change that.
I think micromouse's solution (use MediaSource for transfers as well as rips) is the best; MediaSource has its own library database and may not be constrained by Microsoft's folder structure. (The internal library in Creative's MTP-type players isn't constrained by the folder structure either.)

  • Help! My Zen Micro is detected but not connected to zen media explorer & mediasou

    Hi
recently i just bought a creative zen micro at 5 GB. after installing all the drivers and programs using the installation CD that came with my player, I connected my player through the USB cable to my pc USB root hub.
an auto-detect of my zen micro window pops up at the righthand corner, prompting me to click 'organize' in the creative media source. clicking the organize option, mediasource program starts but while it is loading the music library, an error message: CTCMS, The program has performed a illegal operation......etc.
i tried disconnecting my player followed by opening the media source prog and connecting my player after that. another error message: file operation failed. please ensure that your player is properly connected.
I'm using windows 98 SE on an AMD processor. i was able to use the removable disk mode of my player to store data from pc. However when comes to the media mode of my player, it is shown as not connected status in the zen micro media explorer and in the creative media source program, it's either shown as not properly connected or illegal operation when loading music library from my player. in addition, under the device manager, the creative zen micro driver is shown as working properly. i was also able to upgrade my firm ware to version .02.05. using my pc to connect to my player. However, even before upgrading the firmware, this problem is already present. i have contacted the creative technical support helpdesk for advise on this issue and they have suggested to me various solutions such as checking my drivers if they are updated, reinstalling the drivers and software applications for the media library, installing jet engine service pack for my windows and the MDAC component but still nothing works.
anyone have any suggestions? pls help
    thanks

    Hi,
Sorry I can't help you. I just wanted to let you know I have the same exact problem. It started three days ago and I've been going back and forth with creative support and nothing has worked. I am beginning to grow really distressed. I feel a little better now because after seeing that it's happening with someone else, it is most likely not the player. I am running windows 98 SE as well. I also have an AMD Duron processor. I have a new computer on the way with windows XP I really hope it works. But now I have a new problem. I listed it on the front page of this forum a few minutes ago. My player froze and now only boots up in rescue mode. I am getting so frustrated with my player. If you figure anything out will you be as kind as to send me a message on how you got your player working again? I would really appreciate it. Thanks.
    Nick

  • Zen Media Explorer just isn't on Creative's support si

I have searched high and low. I have told the creative support site that I have a Creative Zen 20gb. I have told it I use XP and I want all related software, in english. I have pressed submit. I know for a fact that it works and ought to be there, as it was on the original CD, and on my desktop machine I use it for this very same player. That desktop machine, however, is 5500 miles away, as is the CD. I only have an EeePC, so resource- and space-hungry MediaSauce is not an option (tried it, took ages, ultimately failed to work anyway). I have the latest drivers (found those easily) and I can drag and drop stuff to add it but I can't edit playlists, and so I can't add new music to my existing playlist.
Please, someone, a download link for Creative Media Explorer. And please, before someone reflexi'vely points me at the support page, try what I am describing ; you will see that it's not there.

Thanks for your effort. That's my MP3 player. All my stuff is in storage, so the CD is not really accessible, and besides no-one who could get to it would have the first clue how to make an iso and upload it to rapidshare; good idea but no dice. I realise that the thing is regarded as obsolete, but it seems unbelievable to say that creative would individually develop a different programme to communicate with each of their many many MP3 players. Surely it must be tucked away in some dusty old corner of Creative's site. What possible benefit is it to them if they don't provide support applications for older models
As for downloadnova, they demand money to DL stuff, and to be honest the whole site smells like a scam to me, so there's no way I'm joining. I highly doubted that seven seperate people uploaded the several-year-old creative zen 20gb disc in the space of the last nine days. So, I tried searching for a random thing (name of my favourite Japanese burger chain) and got some very similar results. I shall assume you didn't realise that the place was (or has every appearance of being) bogus.

  • Zen Media Explorer and Outl

When I use the synchronize media and Outlook data portion of ME it does not give me the option to selec the items to synchronize. It is possible that during the setup process I may have only selected (Audio) in the select items for synchronization and now I can't sync. outlook with Zen because it is not an option. Can you help me to make this an option.

As you have the MTP firmware now installed on your Zen player you will need to update your Media explorer software and Creative MediaSource (CMS).
To download the Zen Micro Media Explorer, download the file ZENM_PCAPP_LB__00__MTP.exe from http://www.nomadworld.com/downloads/...s/download.asp
At the moment there are no plugin updates available for CMS, so until creative release this you will be unable to use Creative MediaSource Player. You will need to continue to use WMP0.
    regards,
    Angel.

  • Zen Media Explorer -- crashes/can't uninst

Just got a new Zen 8MB -- installed the software, charged the player, but after automatic updates were installed, "Windows Explorer has stopped working" if I connect the player to USB -- just trying to start ZME causes the same error. I've tried deleting the software to reinstall -- however deleting it does not delete it -- Vista thinks it's gone, but all the icons are still there on the desktop, and in the Start->All Programs. Reinstalling didn't help.
So how do I get music on my player with out ZME? Tried to import from an SD card, but the player won't recognize those files as music files.
Great -- I've got a new player, it looks like it works perfectly -- but no software (((((
How do I get out of this mess? Is there a way to remove the Zen software from my computer?
Running Windows Vista on an HP tx000... and frustrated.

Some applications are better than others with uninstall -- some even get it right. I consider Creative software "badly behaved" for uninstall -- I sent an email to creative support and they couldn't even give me an accurate description for removing the software. Bottom line is...
Users *b*e*w*a*r*e* -- always set a restore point in Vista before you install something -- it makes uninstalling *so*so*so* so much easier. However, as far as I can tell -- Vista sets restore by itself on an install -- if only more users knew about this, much pain and suffering would be avoided.
FYI -- I did the restore, reinstalled ZME -- I refused to allow ZME to update itself -- my ZEN is ali've and well -- and I'm very happy with my new toy now. ))

  • Creative Media Explorer for ZEN 16GB on Win7 Acting Weird

E-mailed Creative support earlier this evening only to have them get back to me that you only get a year of e-mail support This is what I originally wrote to them:
"Hello, Creative Media Explorer now acts strangely whenever I try to add music purchased from iTunes. If I drag-and- drop the iTunes music using Windows Explorer, a window will pop up saying "Preparing" and then a conversion will proceed where the iTunes music is converted from the .m4a format to a .wma file. When I try to use the "Add iTunes Media" wizard from the main Creative Media Explorer window, it says "The following files are not transferred" and says "Unknown error" under the "Reason" tab. This has never happened before. I have looked up the specs for the Creative ZEN player, and it says it can play purchased iTunes music, so I should not be seeing a conversion box or an error. I have previously added iTunes music with no problems and they playback fine. The only way I can add purchased iTunes music is to directly add to the player without using the Creative Media Explorer through "Portable Devices". When I add purchased iTunes music this way, it asks me "Do you want to convert (filename) before it s copied to your device?" and I see the options "Yes, convert and copy" and "No, just copy" with a warning on the bottom that says "Your file will be copied, but might not play on your device." I add the music, and it works fine.
I have tried the "Repair" utility under "Add/Remove Programs" in Windows; I have un-installed and re-installed the program from the original CD-ROM; and I have un-installed the program from CD-ROM and re-installed the program by downloading the .exe file for 64-bit systems from the ZEN webpage.
The only thing I can think of is that an update for Windows may have messed something up with Creative Media Explorer."

  • Zen Micro Media Explorer (P4S) Problems, anyo

I may have missed a thread on this, but frankly, I'm surprised that no one else is complaining about this problem.
Since upgrading my firmware to make the Micro Audible-compatible, I find the new version of "Zen Micro Media Explorer" suddenly very deficient!
Selecting "organize music in device" now offers a VERY limited function. The old interface is gone, replaced with just another (windows) Explorer window with a folder called "Music" in it. You can't sort your player's contents by genre or album, just artist (folders).
If you open an artist folder, then album folder to get to the tracks, you can't "edit track properties" on more than one track at a time (for instance, if you need to correct the genre on all files for an album or audiobook).
All these options USED to be available in the old version of "Zen Media Explorer". Now I'm regretting upgrading to the "plays for sure" firmware -- this is probably what's causing the limitations.
I'd sure be curious to see if anyone else finds this as frustrating as I do... I can't imagine Creative making a software upgrade LESS useful, but it appears they have!
    Thanks,
    Dave

I completely agree...this new software is a major step back! ... I get the feeling that Creative struck some sort of deal with Microsoft and dumbed down their software in favor of Media Player 0!
For a while there, I was able to turn all my audio over to Creative's software - I was using it to listen to the music on my PC, organize, burn, transfer to my Zen, and life was great!
Now that I've "upgraded" to this new firmware, Microsoft's Media Player keeps butting its way onto my screen and draining all the life out of my computer!
For example, I used to be able to right-click on a song and select send to --> Zen...now all I can do is add the song to my Media Player sync list! Media Play is such a resource hog that i don't even bother... I'd rather just go into Creative's software and use the import wizard.

  • Micro media explorer not recognizing zen micro, organizer and Windows does.

I recently purchased a Micro 6, did all program installs. etc. and could never get it to work properly, exchanged it for another, had all the problems to get it recognized by Windows etc. and through this site, managed to get compatable with zen organizer and windows media player0, but the micro media explorer refuses to see it! I checked the registry and noticed that the two units are registered there (usb), could that be the problem, and if so ,how do I correct it's
It seems to me that I uninstalled the first unit, that this not clear the registry of it also?
    Thanks in advance.

I have KINDA the same problem. The Zen Media Explorer doesn't reconize my device and I don't know HOW to make lists etc in the MediaSource Organizer (is there any tutorial f?r it or something? i need lots of help there.. how to make lists and how to get em into the Zen).
I've had to copy / paste music to my zen manually.. which takes longer than necessary and I can't make fancy lists etc.. Help would be very appreciated :/
Oh, and I have version 2..02 if that makes any diffrence.
    Thanks.

  • Zen V Plus - Media Explorer not detecti

Hi, I'm not sure if this has been posted somewhere along the lines. If it has sorry.
Anyway, my problem is I have my V plus attached to my PC I have it turned on and it says it's docked.
But my Media Explorer and other various Media Sync programs won't detect it.
It shows up in My Computer as a Portable Device but that doesn't really help me that much.
I can transfer files onto it the old fashioned way of dragging and dropping but i'd really like the convenience of the Media Explorer.
If anyone could provide me with a solution to this I would be quite greatful.Message Edited by Konis on 04-6-200702:24 PM

  • Using new Creative Zen without Zen Media Explo

    Hi
I have just received my Creative Zen. I wanted to use it like an external hard disk as well as an MP3 player but on my computer Windows XP only detects the Zen after I have installed Zen Media Explorer. This means I can't use it on other computers without installing the software.
However it looks like some people have been able to plug and play:
    http://forums.creative.com/creativelabs/board/message?board.id=pmc&message.id=45483
    What's the story?

I don't think you get that New Hardware Wizard if you have Windows Media Player v. on your system.
The drivers are in the WMP software. If you don't have WMP v. you should upgrade. Do you get the new hardware wizard as soon as you connect with your USB connection? If so, that tells you that your USB connection is good.
Have you installed the Creative Media Source and the Zen V Media Explorer software on your PC yet? If you are like me - the last thing you look at is the User manual. I just about tore my hair out when I first got this thing because I didn't have even a basic understanding of how it worked. Then I discovered the "User Guide" in the software package on the PC, and it really gives a lot more information than the little user manual that comes in the package. Ithink you will find a lot of answers there. Don't know why people don't want to use the ZenV Media Explorer.
As I have come to understand this setup, the Creative Media Source is the software that resides on your PC and acts as your Player/Organizer but the Zen V Media Explorer is software that actually resides on your player and acts as your player's file manager. It is to your player - what Windows Explorer- is to your PC, PLUS other functions. I could be wrong about this, but I think that if you want to just be able to drag and drop files and use your Zen V like a flash dri've, you have to do some configuration for mass storage.
