Zen Micro 2.20.05 and Undocking method

Well I upgraded to 2.20.05 and I am happy to report it is working great and synching great with my Yahoo music subscription! I didn't even lose any songs during the upgrade.
My question is that when I undocked after the upgrade I still got the bad "file rebuilding" screen. I hoped that this v2 upgrade would fix that. I had thought I read that this the file rebuilding too often is not good for the micro?
Is there a special way I should undock (from usb/pc) to prevent that? Was this even an upgrade in the latest v2?

RBBrittain - Do you do something different than just unplug your micro to not get that file rebuilding screen? ie lock, etc? I get it most of the time when I unplug mine, but not always, but I can never figure out exactly what I've done different when I don't get it.
Does anyone know the "correct" way to undock? Mine never shows up in xp to remove hardware safely so I just end up unplugging it (of course not in the middle of any action)
I don't think I do anything "special" while undocking. I think the biggest thing I do is that I usually let it charge via USB, and after charging it eventually goes into "idle shutdown".
MTP players don't show up in Remove Hardware Safely; generally only removable dri'ves (MSC devices, including MuVo/Zen Nano/Neeon players, plus the Micro in "removable disk" mode) do. With the Micro, you know when it's OK to unplug by looking at the arrows on the Docked screen: Gray (filled) arrows mean don't unplug, while white (unfilled) arrows mean it's OK to unplug.

• Zen Micro; Mac OS 9 and Windows

hi,
i was wondering, i have a macintosh computer running Mac OS 9 and i also have a PC running Windows XP, do i have to have the harddri've formatted on my Zen Micro to use it on the mac (kinda like the iPod) or can i just use it like i normally do? also, is it possible to use iTunes (windows XP) for my Zen Micro? if so, how?
sorry for all the questions and thanks

Hi, I have been trying to run my zen on my mac for the past few days now. I am using os9..At first i tryed to just insert the player into my mac and it came up with a untitled folder with the files in the folder. (zen is in detachable disk mode) i can browse the different folders ect but when i try to transfer something to or from the zen my mac freezes. I have tryed the plug-ins ect listed in the FAQ section but i am sure those are all for os X as they are yet to work for me.
If anyone can help out here it would be much apreciated. Many Thanks!!

• Zen Micro Problem -- Just TRY and figure this one out

So, I never dropped my zen micro, never played soccer with it, never sent it to the moon. It's possible someone else has, and isn't fessing up to it, but all I know is I came home one day to find a non-working Zen Micro.
The symptoms: I can charge batteries, I can make it glow blue by plugging it in. If it's running just off battery it gets to the CREATIVE screen and just stays there until the battery dies. If it's plugged in, it does the same thing but glows blue.. and doesn't die.
I CAN go into recovery mode, but none of the options do anything [well, restart does.. it takes me back to the CREATIVE screen]. The other ones keep formatting and whatnot forever, which is a good indication it just froze as soon as I pressed format.
I also tried to plug it in, and format it off my computer as a removable disk, but unfortunately neither my computer nor my friends is picking up the Zen Micro as a removable disk and placing it on the My Computer tray.
If anyone has any advice, if anyone has seen this type of thing before, etc etc, please share.
Desperately seeking help,
Music Anonymous

You'll need to call Creative's support phone line so that they can give you an RMA number for your player. Then, just ship it to the address they tell you.

• Zen MIcro:Auto power off and USB charg

i wanna know whether the zen micro has an auto off feature. also, can it be charged via USB?Thanx

When you say auto off, do you mean that it turns off when it's idle? If so, then yes, it does. Otherwise post up more detail and I'm sure someone can answer your question.
The Zen Micro can charge over USB aswell, but remember this will take longer than with the power adapter.

• Zen Micro tracks are slipping and skipping to next track rando

Tracks are slipping and occasionally move onto another track randomly. Creative suggest system restore and downloading firmware. Has anyone had this problem and should I restore and download? I'm novice to MP3 blurb. Thanks.

OK, just for you (and to satisfy my own curiousity), I ripped?two tracks using?the WMA 9. codec and Easy CD-DA Extractor?(with metadata enabled of course) at 64 kbit/s to the PC. I copied it using MediaSource 3.0.09 to my Zen Micro (.02.05). The track data including track number is still there.

• Who here bought the Zen Micro between last month and now

When did you buy it's (From Begining of last month till now)

Did you have any problems? What were they?

See, I'm about to buy one, but some of those who bought it latetly have had major problems:smileysurprised:...has anyone else who bought it from last month till now had any problems?
Please reply, I really need help

ok if you buy a zen micro now, to you its new. but it may have been sitting in the shop for 6 months, thus isnt new, where as someone who bough theres 2 months ago might have bought it from brand new stock and so its only 2 months old.
creative have made little fixes to the players, slight hardware revisions and sending them with the latest firmware update, so you cant really tell how new you player is just by when you bought it. so to find out if the really new players still have the problems you cant just ask who bought theres recently and how many problems they still have.

• Zen Micro not booting up and recovery mode doesn't do anyth

Hi,
I just got my Zen Micro yesterday and it worked fine until the second battery charging.
I charged it using the AC adapter. When it finished charging I tried to turn it on but it wouldn't go past the Createi've log (the second screen after the one with the copyright notice)
Since then I've tried all the options in the recovery menu but they don't seem to have any effect. (The recovery mode displays "Creative Zen Micro v0.0.58 at the top)
I tried "clean up" and gave it at least 30 minutes but it didn't finish.
I tried "reload firmware" but after some time I took out the battery and it still gets stuck at the second Creative screen. I don't get the firmware error screen.
Also tried the format and reboot options... nothing.
Yesterday I upgraded the firmware to .02.05 firmware and didn't have any problems. All the software also worked fine on my WinXP machine.
Would appreciate your help.
Thanks,
Greg.

I've had the exact same problems as GregL, except that I have the original firmware that came with the Zen Micro (I was planning to upgrade it until this whole mess happened).
I charged it fully a few times, and it'd been working fine for about fi've days, and now, I can't get past the "Creative" logo screen! Recovery menu works, but the options don't seem to get anywhere. They never get past "Erasing Firmware", "Scan Disk", and the like. I've tried rebooting and I've tried removing the battery, but nothing has changed.
Does anyone know what might be wrong with my Zen Micro?

• ZEN micro - music library (artist and alb

Hi,
I just got the Micro for xmas and installed the software. I now have two issues. After converting all my iTunes songs into mp3s, the artist and album won't show up. I've right clicked my Folders tab to include the artist and album and it lists on my Details section for view but not in Creative Library...any suggestions?
I have hundreds of songs and going through each and everyone just to add artist and album will take forever.
Second and more importantly: My micro starts up and I'm able to hear the clicks in the touchpad but it won't do anything. It shows 3 demo songs but they won't even play. I connect the USB to the micro and it shows "NEW HArdware detected" then a few minutes later it says, "device not connected" - i'm gonna see if the store i bought it from has any suggestions but figured I would try here as well. Thanks!

. Chances are the converted songs don't have tag data. Use a tagging program to check, and add the required data. There's no real shortcut I'm afraid but a mass tagging program (which most are) should make easier work of it.
2. Sounds odd and like the player is faulty. Can you access the Rescue Mode to see if you can run a disk cleanup? To access the Rescue Mode on the Zen Micro, remove the battery, hold the power switch to the "on" position, reinsert the battery. Choose Disk Cleanup from the menu.

• Zen micro file transfer error and playing mista

My Zen Micro 5GB had some problems wih the sound:sometimes, listening to a song, I heard (more orless) a second of another song but after that isreturned to the selected one. This is not the only problem: sometimes, whentransferring data between a PC and the player'sstorage dri've (2GB) it stops after a while. When transferring music from the player to the PCusing Music Organizer the PC receives some musicbut after a while it stops and displays amessage 'Cannot transfer file: file not found';after this, the player remains 'busy' also if youclose all the programs opened. I tried to fix this in many ways I installed the version 2.x firmware, so Icould re-install the latest .x version.2) I learned how to access the recovery functionsand I tried all of themBut after all this, it continues to display theerror message and I think sometimes it could stopplaying the song I'm listenig to and play asecond of another one.

all the songs are mp3 format
the transfer window pops up, the status will say writing for about 5sec. then the error comes up and says unable to create file - restart player and try again.
but then the player has the acti've docked logo on, which you aren't supposed to unplug from the computer when that's on, but it will not go off. I've left it for hours and ended up unplugging it anyway. So I've restarted it, pulled the batter and retried that a few times too.
Any ideas?
thanks for your help

• Various problems with Zen Micro, but getting smaller and small

Last night I turned on my Zen Micro and heard Led Zeppelin's All of my Love for about 4 seconds before the micro froze and started buzzing, reminding me of my Nintendo when the cartridge was dirty. So I tried restarting it several times and it continued with the same. I left it for the night, since I was at someone else's house and had not installed the new firmware; I needed to be at my laptop to mess around with it. In the morning, I looked up some stuff and found out how to access the recovery mode, which I did. I did all of the options, the last one being to format the hard dri've. I had already erased the firmware, but I formatted the hard dri've after I plugged it into my USB port and saw that it had been corrupted anyways and it was completely empty. Then, seeing as everything was gone anyways, I took the opportunity to download the firmware updates and install them, or at least attempt to. I got a message saying the battery level was too low, and to charge it before installing the firmware. I took out the battery and it ran on main power while I installed the first firmware. Then, I put the battery back in and installed the second firmware (newest) and it gave me the same error message about the level being too low. I took out the battery again, but this time it just turned off. I didn't quite understand so I just went to sleep and left it charging. I woke up and was able to install the firmware. Then I went to Windows Media and synced my library to the Micro. Bad idea. I don't know if it's the same with any of you, but I don't exactly love all the songs in my music library. It took every audio file I have on my computer and put it on the Micro. So I figured I'd just open MediaSource and do the whole editing thing I did before it got busted. That doesn't work because of course the music under Creative Zen Micro is different from the music under PC Music Library which, until today, were identical. Now. All I want to know is how I can look at the music inside my Micro in the same way I would if it were in my PC Music Library, where I have a scroll bar on the side with all the artists and albums and a list of tracks next to it. I need this because instead of everything being free and looking the same way it would in my downloads folder, everything is now in folders by artist name and it will take me forever to figure out which songs I do and do not want. Still, at least I've got it working now.

It shouldn't be, assuming you synced via WMP the contents of the PC Music Library. Ultimately the contents of the PC Music Library is irrelevant though as don't you want to edit the contents of the player? I'm guessing you're using the v2 firmware which makes this a little harder...

You can't. That's the problem with the v2 firmware. You might want to go back to the . firmware. For the differences in the firmware versions look at the FAQ post.

I got my creative zen micro a few weeks ago and I have some questions.
I'm using Plays For Sure from MSN. Now that I've downloaded that do I always have to use it's Can I subscribe to other services like Rhapsody?
Is there any help for organizing my music? I try to make a new playlist and it shows up on the computer and says it's syncd but I can't find it on my micro.
I have some workout selections with voiceovers like cardio coach and some motivational speeches. Is there a way to isolate those so I can still use the shuffle feature and dj type features without those getting into the mix?
There's a small square of some kind in the upper right corner of my screen with a "" in it. What is this?
This is so confusing for me.

In theory yes. I don't know how well the Micro works with tunes from different stores on it, but I've yet to hear that people have had problems.
Is there any help for organizing my music? I try to make a new playlist and it shows up on the computer and says it's syncd but I can't find it on my micro.
This is the only thread I know about playlists with WMP0 and the v2 firmware. Have a look and see if it hel
ps.
You can of course create playlists with MediaSource and ZMME, but you must get the updated versions for the v2 firmware from Nomadworld.com downloads.
I have some workout selections with voiceovers like cardio coach and some motivational speeches. Is there a way to isolate those so I can still use the shuffle feature and dj type features without those getting into the mix?
No. It's been a longstanding wishlist item.
There's a small square of some kind in the upper right corner of my screen with a "" in it. What is this?
It's a play mode. There are various play modes that you can use, so that the queue does different things e.g. play randomly. The one you have selected is Repeat Track. To change the play mode from the queue press the menu button (bottom right-hand corner) then scroll down to play mode, select it and change.

• Zen Micro Freezes during play and sometimes won't turn on at

I have been having some issues with my micro and wondered if anyone could help. I didn't drop it or do anything I can recall to cause these issues, it just seemed to start out of the blue. 2 things are happening. Sometimes it will freeze during play and "buzz" (it's really just transmitting a countinuous sound of a millisecond of what it was playing like if the guy was saying apple, and it freezes when he starts to say it it will sound like "aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa" but in a completely illegible buzz way). Second, it will sometimes not turn on at all, no creative logo, no lights, no nothing. Once I take out the battery and replace it, it will always then start no problem. The battery does not seem to be loose at all as the above mentioned buzzin will not stop until I remove the battery, and as I have repeatedly removed the back of the micro during these buzz session?the battery remains firmly seated and the buzzing continues until I remove it. So far I have updated the firmware to 2.2.02 (which I believe reformatted) which didn't stop it from freezing up during play, and just now did a disk clean up (which I can't imagine will have any change?if a complete format didn't). I haven't had the start up problem since the firmware update, but I haven't turned it on and off that many times yet. Any ideas? Sorry to be so verbose but I wanted to explain as best as I could what's wrong, and what I've done so far.

Remove SIM and miniSD card first. Try to boot.
The try hooking it up to the PC again. And see if you might be able to redo the update process.
You can also try a hard reset. As described in a different tread. (Or read below).
Othervise, I afraid you will have to take it to a Service Center.
-- Quote from djassa1 (Re: N80 won't start up!)--
Just reset to factory default.
You will need your 2 hands to do that: While the phone is off press and hold the [Green call Button] + [3 digit button] + [* button] and power on and hold the powwer button. Do that until the phone asks you for the local city reference.

• Zen Micro dodgy headphone socket and impersonal supp

Hi
I heard lots of horror stories about a bad headhone socket- slightest jiggle of th eunit and you lose a channel, or get echoey sound. Now I have the problem.
I reported it to support and got an auto reply telling me a zillion things I don't need to know or check, and completely ignoring my spoecific reported problem
So far, this support sucks and I'm most unhappy. Just thought everyone should be aware of the impersonal support I have recieved and I now have a unit that is virtually unuseable and is not yet 3 months old
BW

I did mail back to support but I am not sure, nor is it obvious whether an auto reply will accept a response- a fact that is strengthened by the non-response since
What basis things are there to check anyway- I reported a specific fault, which was not even touched on in the "auto-reply"

• Need help with Zen Micro and Win

Hi,
I bought a Zen Micro 2 days ago and I can't get it to work with my Win XP machine.
I did what was told in the manual: install the software first then plug the player.
When I plug the player in I get the following message:
Found New Hardware:
Zen Micro
According to the manual, it should be detected and the drivers installed automatically.
But it dosen't. Instead I get the Wizard that try to find the drivers and it dosen't find them.
I let the battery get a full charge and I tried again. Same results.
I tried to update the firmware but since the player is not detected that didn't work.
I also tried to get the new MediaSource/Zen driver (ZENM_PCAPP_LB_4_00_8_PDE.exe) but that didn't fix my problem either.
I also tried to install the Creative Zen Micro Driver version .27.02 but it tell me that I can't install it because the user I tried to install it with is not an administrator. But this is not true since there is only one user on this machine and it's the administrator. First software that tell me this.
I'm using XP Home with SP2.
Thanks for the help.

SSR wrote:
The reason it won't install is because the drivers aren't installed.
I've seen a very few others with this strange error about administrati've pri'veleges, so I'm wondering if it's a Windows issue here. You could try downloading the drivers from to see if this is any different.
Try creating another administrator account and see if it will install from that, and try searching back (perhaps someone had found a solution). I think there's also a way of running a program with forced pri'veleges, perhaps Google can turn something up on that.
I remember one user needs to change some rights of the registry in order to install the software. It looks like under some cases, the login account does not have sufficient rights to write registry.
