Zen Micro and windows explore

My computer DOES recognize my player because i can sync it with WMP or Winamp or even Mediasource. But what I cannot do (which i previously was able to do) is browse my player VIA Windows Explorer ie. My Computer. Any ideas?

If you're not using firmware version 2.xx(PlayForSure firmware), the player won't show up in Windows Explorer as a device. If you're using firmware version .xx, install the Zen Micro Media Explorer software. The software will integrate with Windows Explorer so you can manage it from there.

Zen Micro and Windows 98 proble

Hello, I just received my Zen Micro and have been trying to transfer files from Windows Media Player. I do have Windows 98, but was told it would not be a problem.
First my Micro has been charging for close to 6 hours and I am still getting the blinking thunderbolt. It doesn't seem to be getting fully charged and I am wondering if it is my computer or the battery.
I have not been able to install the creative software. The logo comes up but when I click on next, nothing happens.
I do have Media Player, but when I connect my Micro to the computer, it does not seem to recognize it and I am unable to transfer my files.
Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated. I have searched the site, but nothing really hel
ps.
Also, I have sent a email to Creative Tech support, but have not heard back yet.

I'm pretty sure it won't work under Win 98, although it might work under Win 98 SE.

CREATIVE ZEN MICRO and WINDOWS VI

I hope this question has not been repeated.
I have a Creative Zen Micro and have attempted to install it on my current computer that uses Windows Vista 32-bit. However, it was unable to install or find the driver necessary.
I've already looked at the 'driver release plans'?for this product and there is only a page regarding 'Nati've Support', which says 'The MP3 products ZEN Micro, ... require the latest firmware to ensure Nati've Support in Window Vista'.
I've searched for firmware for the Zen Micro on a Windows Vista 32-bit in English, and found nothing.
How can I make this product work with my Windows Vista 32-bit computer ?

First of all for a little background information, the problem lies in a problem between Creative's firmware installation program and Windows Media Player . WMP is standard in Windows Vista. As a matter of historical information, Creative has not developed any drivers for Windows Vista, therein the rub; Windows Vista does support the Microsoft PlaysForSure initiati've, and many of the older players like the Micro series does have PlaysForSure firmware available to enable the player to be used in Windows Vista.
Now for an outline of the necessary ste

Back up all of the content on your Micro. The firmware that you will install includes a disk format that will erase all of the content and change the way that the disk dri've on the Micro is formatted.
You'll need to find a Windows XP system that does not have Windows Media Player installed. You or the owner of the system should also be knowledgeable in the use of Windows XP System Restore feature so that you can return the system to it's previous state after you are finished with it.
Create a Restore Point on the XP system. Download and install the drivers for your Zen Micro to the XP system. This will enable the player to be recognized by the computer.
Download the PlaysForSure driver for the Micro, V2.2.02, to the desktop of the XP system.
Connect the player to the system with a USB cable and execute the program.
When the firmware installation has completed, the player will reboot. You may disconnect the player. After you have confimed that the firmware revision is correct on the Micro, do a System Restore to put that system back in the condition that you found it.
Connect the Micro to your Vista system and it should recognize the player and install the nati've Windows PlaysForSure driver and pair it with your Micro.

I have just ordered a Zen Micro. It's supposed to get deli'vered today. I'm now not sure if I did the right thing in buying one since I'm getting some info that's telling me that I'm going to be very limited because I don't have Windows XP. When I try to look at the firmware downloads, nothing comes up for Windows ME (the version I have). Creative's website says it is compatible with ME but how come no available downloads for firmware? Could it be that the unit is only compatible with ME if I'm outside the US (which is what I'm being told about the Micro Photo)?
Assuming I have the newest version of the firmware already installed on there, does that mean that I'll have to li've with this version forever? Anyone with advice?

As far as subscription music, Audible files, or drag-and-drop support without Creative software, you're out of luck; the 2.20.05 firmware requires WinXP SP or 2 and WMP 0. However, the "other" current firmware, ..0, does work with WinMe; its exclusion from the WinMe download page is apparently an oversight on Creative's part.
If you don't need subscription music, Audible support, or drag-and-drop from PCs other than your own, ..0 is probably a better choice; it's been out longer than 2.20.05, and Creative's proprietary interface is more stable for now than Microsoft's MTP/PlaysForSure interface. Besides, the non-MTP version of Zen Micro Media Explorer gives you drag-and-drop support on your own PC.

Zen Micro and Windows XP SP2 Is

When I originally bought my player, I had numerous issues trying to get the PC to recognize the Micro after installing the hardware from the CD. Finally, I updated the firmware to version .02, and it work and it seem stable for a short period of time. Now, I cannot get the player to recognized at all on my XP SP2 machine. I?ve tried all the recommended solutions based on the knowledge base and in the discussion forums. I?ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software, using different USB ports, rebooting the Micro, disk clean-up, re-uploading the latest firmware, ., and end with the same situation of the following:
. The Zen micro will freeze where I have to unplug it and remove the battery to reset the player.
2. The micro will be recognized by device manager, but Zen Media Explorer won?t recognize it or Windows Media Player and the docked screen won?t appear.
3. The screen will say docked, but will say docked with the arrows constantly shading in, as it is doing something, but nothing is being done, and it will then freeze, requiring the battery to be removed to reset the player.
4. The screen will flash in between being docked and then back to the screen where you can select music for about 5 seconds, as if trying to become docked, where the docked screen has the arrows not shaded in, and then finally ends up back to the screen where you select music, even when your trying to have Zen Media Explorer recognized the player, the player doesn?t show its docked.
The only luck I?ve had with this product is when it connects to a Windows 2000 machine and has showed a CONSISENT and STABLE connection. However, I don?t use a 2000 machine primarily. I?ve read the forums on this issue being very consistent in terms of faulty players, faulty software and true lack of support for Creative MP3 players.
Whats a like new Zen Micro go for on the market these days?

For the XP problems it could well be a USB chipset issue.

Zen Micro and Windows XP trou

I have had my Micro for about 2 months, and used Windows 98. I bought a new computer (with windows XP pro) and installed my micro. I have been running into some issues: the computer won't recognize my micro in Creative Mediasource, but does under My Computer. I have installed the Plays for Sure firmware (2. or something).
My main question: if I want to play songs through my Micro and computer, how can I do that? The computer doesn't seem to recognize the Micro as another hard dri've, I can only get it through the Zen Micro Explorer, and that is confusing enough.
Windows Media Player 0 seems to need internet access to verify the song licenses, but my computer is a laptop, and I don't currently have internet access.Message Edited by porsche997 on 07-23-2005 2:3 AM

We're all sort of screwed on this issue. I've had the same problem from the beginning with my Creative Zen Micro. I've upgraded to the latest firmware, run disk clean up, done everything suggested in the forum yet my computer NEVER recognizes the Zen Micro. I just have to keep plugging & unplugging & plugging & plugging the Micro and eventually I've be able to transfer music.
But, I repeat, my computer (Windows XP) never recognizes the Micro. My computer has no problem recognzing my jump dri've.

Zen Micro and Windows 2

I bought a Zen Micro 6gb on Friday and have spent all day today trying to figure it out.
-I use Win 2k
-the Micro came out of the box with firmware 2.20.05 installed
-all the functions seem to work but of course the device isn't recognized by MediaSource or by Zen Micro Media Explorer or by the computer. I just get the big yellow "?" in Device Manager and the "New Hardware Found" wizard asking for drivers.
-Removable Disk Mode works as it should.
Questions:
-Is there any way to get this firmware to work in Win 2k?
-Would it be possible to do "reload OS" and change the firmware to ..0? I cannot connect now, will I be able to if I do "reload OS"?
-is my only option to RMA or exchange? The box clearly said my OS was compatible.

This thread is a few weeks old, but wonder if anyone might be checking it and possibly help me.
How does one find out what firmware is on the Zen Micro if you can't dock?
Is it listed on the box or in some documentation? I just looked on the CD and found this in Firmware folder (ZenMicro___0.exe) Don't know if that is what is on the Zen.
My original Zen (purchased early November) worked just fine. It froze up a few times, so I decided to take it back before the 30 days and got another (I also got the 2 year plan at BestBuy). I have spent the past few weeks trying to get it load drivers and it won't.
I had a long description of my issues and what I have done ready to post, but saw this thread and thought I would try and get some info here.
I'm guessing I will probably have to try and get someone at BestBuy to check/flash the firmware. I doubt that would happen. They don't want to help much.
If I can't get any help with this thread, then I might post and go with a new thread.
I have replaced with Zen #'s 2 and 3 and still no results.
My USB shows a Zen in Other Devices, but no amount of trying will get the drivers to work.
I would appreciate any help I can get.

my firmware started to have problems so I downloaded the new plays for sure whatever it was on the sight and well now nothing plays because I have no idea how to transfer my music from windows media player to my zen micro!?I used to do it with the creative media organizer and now that doesn't work even though I downloaded the new plugin so that it would. The main problem is i can't transfer my playlist and I would really like to go jogging but can't because I don't have my running music. Can someone help before I post something like I HATE CREATIVE ZEN

See, one day i get a message on my MP3 player saying I have "firmware" problems. So I go to the creative sight for help and come upon something or other that says if I get this message I should get the new downloadable firmware from the site. So that's what i do. But after i do so, the creative media organizer that I had been using since I purchased my product (it came with the startup disk and all), well it wouldn't recognize that I had my player connected to the computer. I go back to creative's site where i read that i need a new download to make my organizer work with the firmware that I had just downloaded moments earlier (it was this new firmware that brought WMP into the picture. I have nothing against WMP, I just found it easier to use the programs that came with the player. i guess the new firmware works with WMP with something called "Plays for Sure" - I dunno). It was after all of this that when i would go into the creative media organizer that songs weren't transfering properly and all these new music folders began showing up whereas before I could just see the songs on my player by song title, or whichever way I wanted (genre, artist, etc). But now it only shows folders. At any rate. I finally figured out out to get the songs from WMP to my player. I guess I'll just have to learn a whole new way of doing things. Thanks for the reply.

I am not a techy person, have had a Zen Micro player for many years, only use it on holidays! A couple of years ago had to get a new desk top PC - it has Windows Vista. I'm I right in saying that this is not compatable with the Zen Micro? Last time I uploaded music I did it on someone else's PC but don't have that option now.
Is there anything I can do?

Zen Micro and Windows 2000 why wont it read play

I have a laptop with XP on it and a workstation with Win 2000 on it. I installed the drivers and software on both from the CD provided with my 6 GIG Zen Micro. My laptop reads it fine but my workstation does not read it at all I have installed evevrything from the knowledge base that I can find such as the P4S_PCDRV_US__0_00.exe on my win 2000 maching and it stills does nothing. I am running the firmware 2.20.05 on my player and I have the ZenMicroPDE_PCFW_LB___0.exe and used it to install the downgraded dri've to my player but it tells me that all data is going to be lost if I continue does this mean that my media files also or just the firm ware files. If it means both what articles will tell me how to back the player files up?

I have managed to get Windows Vista to detect my Zen when I connect it so can anybody please advise me what I need to do next? Do I now need to install the software from my disc that I got with it and then download the Firmware? If that is right, please can you let me know which Firmware I need to select as I'm not sure which ones I need. Many thanks.

Just install the programs that came in the CD with your Zen. Everything should work after that =]

Zen Micro and XP S

Using 2..02 on my zen micro and windows does not see my player through the usb port. Is it true that I need to upgrade XP to service Pack 2? I'd like to avoid this if possible. Does anybody else use this firmware with SP ?Thanks!

Running a Zen Micro on Windows 9

I am thinking of getting a Zen Micro and i am running Windows 98SE, although Windows 98SE is listed in the minimum system requirements it says this below:
"NOTE The software applications on the Zen Micro CD may have higher requirements for basic functionality. Refer to each application's documentation for details."
Does anybody know if there are higher requirements and what they are?
Is anyone running their Zen Micro on Windows 98SE?

I'm using 98SE and my Zen Micro works fine - no problems since I bought it in mid December (touch wood!!). I'm also using the supplied software without any problems.
