Zen Micro and XP S

Using 2..02 on my zen micro and windows does not see my player through the usb port. Is it true that I need to upgrade XP to service Pack 2? I'd like to avoid this if possible. Does anybody else use this firmware with SP ?Thanks!

SP2 conflicts with a lot of programs. Norton Ghost, several differenct firewall packages and even different peripherals will cease operation with the update.
Usually a re-install of the program and updating it solves the problem for many if not all programs and devices.

If you wanted an AC adapter with it, you could order one along with the player and it should arri've in the same shipment. They are sold separately under accessories.

  • Zen micro and getting Zen Media Player to recognize

I went back to firmware .0.03 and reinstalled the Zen software after getting no where with firmware that works with MS media player.
    I noticed two things.
the device installs differnently in the hardware profile between the two firmware versions
2 If I start the Zen media player and then connect my Zen Micro things work ok. If I connect my Zen Micro and then activate Zen media player things are hit and miss on detecting the Micro.
This just me or have others seen the same thing?Message Edited by summersr on 03-08-2005 03:38 AMMessage Edited by summersr on 03-08-2005 03:39 AM

    Just a thought
Might try re-installing the software from the Zen disk (select repair option).
I noticed that it takes an extremely long time to install all of the parts and pieces and if you exit before it finishes you do not have all of the things the Zen needs to function.

  • Zen Micro and Li

I was thinking of going all out and only using Linux, since I am pretty Anti-Microsoft. But before I did that I wanted to know if I would still be able to put songs on my Zen Micro and charge it through the PC if I was using Linux. I am not sure which distro I am going to use yet. But I was thinking of switching soon. I just need to check into a few possible problems, and this is one of them.

    There are 2 programs available:

  • Zen micro and fm transmit

hey, I am looking at purchasing a zen micro and was wondering what people thought of it. also, can you get an fm radio transmitter(like on the ipod) for your car/home? Thanks

There are various old threads seeking opinions on the player, so I would take a look back. Generally it's well regarded, but asking this opinion on what is essentially a support board is likely to get you a lot of replies from people having problems. If you get one make sure you update to the latest firmware as there was a battery charging issue in the earlier firmware.
You can get a radio transmitter, but it will have to be a 3rd party one e.g. Belkin.

  • Zen Micro and Napster to

I just bought the Zen Micro and have updated my firmware as Napster to Go wants me too, but it seems like I have to update my firmware almost everytime I log on to Napster and try and download songs. Does nayone know fi this is an issue with Napster or with Creative. It sucks to have to update it everytime because then it wipes out everything on my Zen Micro and I have to download the playlists again. I'm new to all this too, so maybe it's something I'm doing wrong or missing? Help!
Also, is there another music download site that might work better with the Zen Micro?
I'd appreciate any help I can get. Thanks!

I'm not a serious tech head, but I know enough to use the stuff that I buy. Basically, mine doesn't recognize my player 00% of the time either, I usually just disconnect my player and restart... I guess the software and stuff is an inexact science. I figure that as long as you can transfer songs to the player then your cool, and it will usually allow you to do that.

  • Zen micro and media player

  • Zen Micro and Napster to Go probl

I have the Zen Micro and use Napster to Go. I updated the firmware on my player yesterday since synchronizing my player has become very difficult. I have tried using both the Napster to Go and Windows Media Player 0 to do this. With Napster to Go I get a message that the player has stopped responding, usually within 0 minutes, and with WMP it never completes. After 2 hours, the synchronized is only at 8%. Also, I have many songs that show a license error, even though there appears to be no problem playing the songs and downloading on Napster to Go. It is becoming very frustrating. The computer seems to have no problem recognizing the player.
Also, if the battery is nearly dead and I hook the player to the computer, I can't try to sync at all until the battery is charged. Is this normal. I have used other players where if you plug them to the computer they are powered through the computer and charge while they are used.
    Any help would be appreciated.

If you have any music on the player that's not on your hard dri've, move it back to the hard dri've now. (Since you just upgraded, that shouldn't be an issue; but since you're gonna reformat your dri've again, I'm just being 00% sure.) Then install the Windows hotfixes listed in the FAQs. Then go into recovery mode (remove battery, then hold power switch in On position while re-inserting battery until menu comes up); from there, choose Format.
If that doesn't fix your problem, go back to recovery mode, choose Reload Firmware, then re-run the firmware upgrade.

  • ZEn Micro and Vista Help Plea

Ok I have searched but anyways so I have a ZEN Micro and I just bought a new laptop that happens to have Vista on it. I know I need to update the firmware on my player to get Vista to recognize it, the thing is that I recently moved across the country and my XP machine is at one end of the US and me and my Vista are at another end so is there anyway for me to do this without needing an XP machine please say yes because I really dont want to buy a new players just because I can load a driver *frustration* any solution?

No, you can't must be Xp & WMP0 only to update firmware. What firmware version is on the player now? You might be able to use it on a Vista but you will only be able to drag & drop to it. No playlists, no syncing. Ask around somone where you are may have a XP computer. Maybe a computer repair shop?

  • Zen Micro and Vista? - Sol

I am trying to get my Zen Micro (DAP-MD0004) to work with Vista to no avail. It is loaded with the latest firmware (PlaysForSure - I dont think so!!!) and Vista picks it up and installs the driver no problem. However, if I try to view music through My Computer it doesnt show anything. Windows Media Player doesnt work either because its WMP. The sync windows just keeps saying to connect a device. I have installed Creative MediaSource 5 Organizer with plugin and even though it picks up my Zen, when I try to view my music it doesnt respond and I have to kill it.Has anybody got any advice for me I have already searched the forums for Zen Micro and Vista and I have found nothing to help me. Is Creative looking into the problem of people not being able to put music onto their devices

I have finally got it to work. Here is what I did for anyone that is having the same problem:
Boot the Zen to Recovery Mode (Remove battery, hold switch in on position, and insert battery)
    Run a Clean Up
    Run a Format
    Reboot
Install Creative MediaSource 5 Organizer with PlaysForSure Plugin
Connect Zen Micro to computer and run MediaSource
You should now be able to copy music from your computer to your Zen.
I am disappointed that I couldn't copy my music off the device first but hey-ho.
I am also disappointed that the latest version of MediaSource requires you to purchase a pack to convert music to MP3.
It never fails to amaze me what businesses will do to try and get more money from us consumers.

  • Zen Micro and Windows 98 proble

Hello, I just received my Zen Micro and have been trying to transfer files from Windows Media Player. I do have Windows 98, but was told it would not be a problem.
First my Micro has been charging for close to 6 hours and I am still getting the blinking thunderbolt. It doesn't seem to be getting fully charged and I am wondering if it is my computer or the battery.
I have not been able to install the creative software. The logo comes up but when I click on next, nothing happens.
I do have Media Player, but when I connect my Micro to the computer, it does not seem to recognize it and I am unable to transfer my files.
Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated. I have searched the site, but nothing really hel

Also, I have sent a email to Creative Tech support, but have not heard back yet.

I'm pretty sure it won't work under Win 98, although it might work under Win 98 SE.

  • CREATIVE ZEN MICRO and WINDOWS VI

I hope this question has not been repeated.
I have a Creative Zen Micro and have attempted to install it on my current computer that uses Windows Vista 32-bit. However, it was unable to install or find the driver necessary.
I've already looked at the 'driver release plans'?for this product and there is only a page regarding 'Nati've Support', which says 'The MP3 products ZEN Micro, ... require the latest firmware to ensure Nati've Support in Window Vista'.
I've searched for firmware for the Zen Micro on a Windows Vista 32-bit in English, and found nothing.
How can I make this product work with my Windows Vista 32-bit computer ?
    Thank you !!!

    Robby & Lizzy
First of all for a little background information, the problem lies in a problem between Creative's firmware installation program and Windows Media Player . WMP is standard in Windows Vista. As a matter of historical information, Creative has not developed any drivers for Windows Vista, therein the rub; Windows Vista does support the Microsoft PlaysForSure initiati've, and many of the older players like the Micro series does have PlaysForSure firmware available to enable the player to be used in Windows Vista.
Now for an outline of the necessary ste
    ps.
Back up all of the content on your Micro. The firmware that you will install includes a disk format that will erase all of the content and change the way that the disk dri've on the Micro is formatted.
You'll need to find a Windows XP system that does not have Windows Media Player installed. You or the owner of the system should also be knowledgeable in the use of Windows XP System Restore feature so that you can return the system to it's previous state after you are finished with it.
Create a Restore Point on the XP system. Download and install the drivers for your Zen Micro to the XP system. This will enable the player to be recognized by the computer.
Download the PlaysForSure driver for the Micro, V2.2.02, to the desktop of the XP system.
Connect the player to the system with a USB cable and execute the program.
When the firmware installation has completed, the player will reboot. You may disconnect the player. After you have confimed that the firmware revision is correct on the Micro, do a System Restore to put that system back in the condition that you found it.
Connect the Micro to your Vista system and it should recognize the player and install the nati've Windows PlaysForSure driver and pair it with your Micro.

Is this after a firmware upgrade on the micro? I had the same. try the solution on this thread http://forums.creative.com/creativel...d=23698#M23698 or if possible try installing the driver on another computer and see if that recognises it.

  • Zen Micro and USB 1.0 == Errors! (w/ new firmwa

    Hello,
I use my Zen Micro to connect at work and at home. But alas it will not work correctly at work (USB .0), constant lockups and incorrectly reports a full player when it has gigs of space left (after a cleanup).
This is using all 3 transfer options, WMP 0.0, Explorer, and Zen Micro Explorer.
On my home computer (USB 2.0), it works w/o error. No problems whatsoever.
Creative can you please fix this?

. I shutdown my Zen Micro and leave it long enough to shutdown completely (friday -> monday) (until the "quick restart" function times out, and it takes ~5s to start it, whatever that function is called, please make it settable).
This has been a request since the days of the Nomad Jukebox 3, but for whatever reason Creative have never added it to the settings. There's of course a petition at the moment specifically for the Micro to be able to change this, more for the folks that think the battery drain is related to this "standby" mode.
    2. I start it up, and the micro for some reason starts to rebuild the library. It freezes for a few seconds at the end, then half the screen gets random characters and it sends out some buzz sound. Crash. 3. The only way to get it working again is to remove the battery, go into rescue mode, and run "cleanup", restart and let it rebuild the library again. This time it succeeds and everything works.
Shucks, although I've not seen anyone else mention this yet... It would be worth logging it directly with support.
