Zen Micro Calendar/Conta

Hey ya'll
Just wondering if it was possible to sync a Zen Micro with a program besides Outlook to transfer the calendar. If not, I'd be a bit surprised as to how Creative could think that its customers who are going non-mainstream by not getting an iPod would ever use a clunky program like Outlook. Anything for those of us who use Thunderbird, Palm Desktop, or something else? Any way to just import csv files without Outlook, for example?
Thanks,

Have you tried syncing with Palm Desktop? The Acti've Sync in Outlook is compatible (I think) with Palm OS devices, therefore going the other way might work.

  • Zen Micro Calendar feature, how to set up to sync with MS Outlo

    hi,
i finally got my zen micro working, it has fully charged and i have downloaded some songs to it, the sound is great and it's playing the music!!!
i'm now testing the calendar feature. does anyone know or have instructions on how to set up the zen micro to sync with MS Outlook to download the contacts, notes, etc?
    thanks!!!

    thanks Catherine,
i used the cd that came with the zen micro. what i did now is uninstall all creative softeware from my computer. rebooted.
then install the zen software for the micro. rebooted
after that, there was no shortcut to the zen micro explorer, only thing in the shortcut was the product registration.
but i installed the same on a machine that runs Windows 2000 and it installed everything correctly.
whereas the machine that does not work is using windows xp.
would there be a conflict with the zen micro software on a windows xp operating system?
    thanks

  • Zen micro - Calendar without Outl

Has anyone found a fix or workaround to this?
I got the Micro as a present and I'm very happy with it, except for the calendar part; there's no real reason for it to be 00% Outlook-dependant...

I don't know the internal mechanics of the data transfer between Outlook and the Zen but, if what the Zen receives is a vCal/iCal file, then it shouldn't be hard to write a plugin or TPS to sync the Zen with other planners, or with a calendar file directly.
It would be better, though, if such a feature came directly from Creative.
Sorry if this sounds a bit like a rant, but I just hate when features only work if you combine them with a specific program on a specific OS. There are interchange formats for a reason, dammit! Use them!

  • Creative Zen Micro Conte

Whats in the box of a 4gb zen micro? On the site it says it doesent come with the belt clip or ac adapter. On amazon, its 0 bucks more but it has belt clip and ac adapter which are worth seperately like 60 bucks. Help!

Yea, im having the same problem!
i was told in an email from Creative Tech. Support that the headphone jack was fixed in the Second Edition (one that doesn't come with extra accesories).
At the same time, I know the wall charger will be useful...
Here is a better alternati've in my opinion:
buy the second edition, then buy a Motorola RAZR charger off ebay for about 5 bucks. Pretty expensi've, so its up to you...
im still not sure what to do!

Have tried to download drivers and software for Zen Micro. When I try to run it though, it does not install because it says that I do not have device connected. Have erased everything off of Zen Micro, but have not reformatted. When I attach Zen Micro to PC, Zen Micro displays "booted" & PC displays "Zen Micro" for a second or two, then switches to "MTP Device"?. Do I need to erase everything from the Zen Nano Plus first?2. What do you think my next step should be?Thx???

  • ZEN MICRO WON'T SYNC CONTACTS NOW .....

My Zen Micro won't sync contacts from Outlook Li've now (when it did before) .... get an error message:
    "CTSync
    X Unspecified error"
I'm using Outlook Li've (2003) that is linked to my hotmail e-mail; like I said, everything sync'ed fine before!
I've tried all the new downloads, etc.
I've also formatted the player several times.
I can still syn music, tasks, and calendar.
How do I resolve this issue ... no one from Creative Labs has been able to provide any assistance with the issue(s).

FernIe, I have the exact same problem, although now my Zen Micro won't turn on at all via the switch.
My Zen Micro is 5 months old and its only been over the past few weeks I've been having problems. It started with having to hold the switch in the power on position for a least 30 secs and trying it at least 5-0 times before the player would turn on, and having to remove the battery to turn it off. Now, not matter how many times I try the switch or how long i hold it for, the player won't turn on.
The battery is fully charged and I have never had problems with the headphone jack, and I haven't dropped it or done any damage to it that I think could be causing it. I'm having to turn it on by plugging it into my computer through the USB cable and then unlpugging it once its on, it's a pain doing this and means if I want to use it later I have to keep it on, muted, in my bag all day with the lock turned on (that end of the switch works) then once its turned off I can't turn it on again until I get near a computer again.
I've searched the discussions and knowledge base but haven't found an answer. I've just emailed the support team and I'm waiting for their response, would be interested to know what they've told you.
Just letting you know your not alone and I feel your pain!

  • (Zen Micro) Listening to songs whilst connected to PC

not sure if this is normal but i've just (for the first time) tried listening to songs on my Zen Micro whilst it is connected to the PC (Windows XP)... everything was fine until i tried using the Internet... everytime i type a web address URL into the address bar the Micro switches to docking mode and the song sto
    ps.
I disconnected and reconnected... now i just get the "docked" icon and can't access anything else on the player...
... when disconected from the PC it's working fineMessage Edited by jaf089 on 02-25-2005 06:53 PM

don't try to play it while it's hooked up to the usb. it's got a calendar organizer function that syncs to outlook so even if you're not using it, when you hook up your usb, your Micro wants to talk to outlook and not play your music. also, anytime it's connected to the pc, it wants to talk to your pc, expecially if you are using explorer. i recommend using the ac adapter to charge if you want to listen to and avoid the USB if you want to listen, just my $.02
i suppose what would be nice is if there was a way to manually dismount the dri've while it's still hooked up to usb but that's for the techs at creative to figure out.

  • Zen Micro taking calender no

I bought a Zen Micro and with the exception of no AC charger and no good instructions, I like it. However when I access my calender I have no idea how I put notes for a certain day. Please help.

The applications for modifying the Micro's calendar (either by direct entry or by sync with Microsoft Outlook) are installed with Zen Micro Media Explorer. If they aren't available in your ZMME, download the "Zen Micro Media Explorer Web Update" from your local Creative site.

  • Brand New Zen Micro Hangs on "Creative" Logo Scr

Like some of you out there my new Zen Micro worked with the initial charge prior to my charging it although I never got to put any music on the thing.
Then after the charge, it hangs on the "Creative" logo screen. I've tried all of the instructions, including removing the battery, holding on-off switch "on" while replacing the battery, choose one of the options, but the clean-up, format, etc. all seem to start but do not finish (I've left each for half a day and it never finishes).
I downloaded the new firmware and connected my Zen via the USB cable to my PC, but my PC does not see the Zen device and asks me to connect it even thought the device is connected and the "Creative" logo screen is displayed.
Does anyone have a strategy for correcting this issue? I can return the device, but I hate to since I love the idea of using it. It's cool.

    hi,
hope this is not too late... but try calling the creative support hotline .. have someone from creative walk you through the trouble-shooting in case something was missed when you tried it.
that way, you can get creative support to confirm if the device is defecti've or not and they can provide you suggestions on how to rectify it: return/exchange with seller, return/exhange through creative, etc.
i also went through that drama last week, when my micro was charging and never responded afterwards. turns out mines was defecti've even before i even played anything on it
i called amazon and was able to get them to send me another one. this new one was able to finish charging the battery ... i'm charging the 2nd battery to make sure and hopefully when that's done, i can start loading songs and test out the sound as well, recorder, calendar, etc .. as i wanted to make full use of all these features.
hope you get your micro working soon.. good luck!!!

  • Pls post ur suggestions/comments on whether i get the zen micro.

pls post your suggestions, comments, reactions, etc etc regarding the zen micro. am planning to buy myself a hard dri've mp3 player (5gb or 4gb would suffice) and i still can't decide up to now on whether i should get the ipod mini or the creative zen micro. your suggestions would be highly appreciated.

I have a Zen Touch. I do not have an enormous music collection, but have maybe 50 or 60 albums on the player. This is something like 6 or 7 GB. It is WAY too much for me (even this much music). I do not need even that many songs on it at once. With support via WMP0 to synchronize, you could just synch up your favorites every time, switch them around, eventually synch up Napter 2 Go stuff and still have a ton on a 5 GB player. Features on the Micro that sound flashy but I would NEVER use are the calendar, contact thing. I have this on my phone, too, and don't use it. I have a PDA--I DO use that. An MP3 player is a pitiful substitute for a PDA (and a PDA is a lousy MP3 player). I would use the Audible Audio support in the Micro. Touch does not have this. I am a huge Audible fan. I had seriously looked at a Rio Carbon, but now that the Micro is out, that would be the player I would buy if I had it to do over again. They do need to develope a way to charge your extra battery for the Micro. The ability to swap batteries is pretty stupid the way it is now--you can only charge it in the player. They need a charger for the spare. Just my opinion, but I think some people get carried away with hard dri've potential. I can't forsee EVER wanting to carry that much music around with me, especially when it will be so easy to change what is on the player once full support for WMP0 comes out. I am just not away from my home computer library for that length of time that I would want to carry most of it around with me. I vote for the Micro.

  • Zen Micro and Outlook 2003 Sync

I recently purchased the Zen Micro. While I am extremely happy with the Audio quality the Oultoook syncing doesn't work properly. I have tried many times with a huge amount of frustration to sync Outlook 2003 only to find out that any calendar entry that is a "Series of Meetings" that was entered in the past is just ignored by the Zen Micro. I even tried to update the series by typing in a carriage return into each meeting to update the meeting but to no preval. Is this really the way the Zen Micro is designed to work or is the documentation just lacking?

I just wanted to second everyone's comments for Creative's benefit. I just picked up my Orange Zen Micro yesterday - am loving it - but ran into the same Outlook 2003 issue. When I initially synced just the calendar, it transferred nothing. Then I checked BOTH "contacts" and "calendar" (even though I have no contacts), and it transferred my calendar.
I then discovered that roughly 25% of my meetings transferred over. I also pinned it down to any meetings that are marked to "reoccur" in Outlook fail to transfer to my Zen Micro. That's unfortunate as the vast majority of my appointments reoccur.
I called Creative Tech Support today, and they confirmed that their development team is aware of the problem and should *hopefully* have a fix out. We shall see.....

  • Zen Micro and PPC confli

    Hi,
Just recently acquired a Zen Micro 5GB. I've just finished updating the firmware to the latest PlayForSure install, installing all the updated software, and loaded my music on to it. Then I encountered a strange problem. I wanted to download my Calender and Contacts information from Outlook 2000 to my Zen Micro as a backup calender. I carry a Dell Axim X5 Pocket PC most of the time, and use it for scheduling and things like that. So, I dropped my PPC in it's cradle to sync my calender over to the desktop. Then I tried to connect my Zen Micro, with the Pocket PC still in it's cradle. Media Explorer couldn't find the device until I undocked my Pocket PC. Every other application (MediaSource, Napster, Musicmatch, Media Player 0) saw the Micro just fine with my PPC docked.
It's not a huge deal since undocking the PPC fixes it, but is there anyway to dock the Zen and my Pocket PC at the same time? I suspect the problem is in Windows XP itself, since I noticed that both my Pocket PC and the Zen Micro Explorer both fall under the "Other" category in My Computer. Just wondering if anyone else has encountered similar problems.
Hmmm......*wonders if he can sync his Calendar to Zen via Acti'veSync*.....

Try using MSCONFIG to reboot in a diagnostic startup. This should only load the basic software.

  • Zen Micro - How synchronize via Outl

    Hello,
two weeks ago I buyed a new zen micro. I am very sutisfied. Only one point I can solve.
I have the new firmware 2.00.2
My question is: How can I synchronize contacts and calendar via Outlook?
    Tank you.

If you have the updated firmware (2.00) then you need to also download the newest version of the Media Explorer (MTP one). It won't work with the one that came with the CD (I tried, it wont recognize the player). When you install the new Media Explorer you can either use the shortcut, or go to My Computer and you will see a Zen Micro Media Explorer (MTP) icon. If you have the older version still installed, then you will have two Media Explorer icons. Use the one with the (MTP). It is safe to unsinstall the old one without affecting the new installation.
Once you have the Media Explorer installed open it and click on the "Sync Music and Outlook data between PC and Device". From there you can choose whether to transfer from computer to player, player to computer, or both ways, by selecting the right Sync Direction arrows. You can also choose what you want to trasfer: music, contacts, tasks, and calendar by checking the appropriate boxes. When your ready click on Sync Now.

  • Should I buy the Zen Micro or the Zen Touch Playe

I am trying to decide whether to buy the Zen Micro or the Zen Touch. They are roughly the same price. I do not think I need 20GB, but I <EM>hate </EM>to constrain myself.
On the other hand, the Zen Micro appears to offer a few extra features like FM radio, replaceable battery, voice recording and advanced song handling (DJ, for example). The Zen Touch seems to have just the most basic functions.
So what do I do, get a gigantic player with minimal functionality (less than an iPod or Nomad) or a smaller player with more functionality (I am unlikely to use voice and FM recording, and use the FM radio minimally)?
It just seems like the overall Micro firmware is more robust than the Touch firmware, but I'm not sure the tradeoff is worth it.
    What are your thoughts?

  • Zen Micro - transfer lock ups with latest firmwa

I've been trying to transfer mp3 files to my firmware upgraded Zen Micro and find that the transfer slows down and then locks the player after 30-40 files have successfully copied. This happens with ..0 and 2.2.02 firmwares.
The player will then remain in a 'acti've' docked state (black arrows) until the battery is removed. After this lock up tags on the mp3 files are messed up and display Chinese looking characters in the Details View.
This happens on two different computers with USB2.0, one Intel based and the other AMD.
Two questions - anyone know if this is a known issue being worked on for an imminent firmware update? And secondly - is the problem aggravated (or even created) because I am trying to copy files over from a directory tree (mp3's sorted into artist/album/ folders) rather than one flat folder with all mp3s in it (ie. in one single folder).

I'd try transferring fewer files at a time and see if that works.
You might be on to something with copying from a directory tree too. See if transferring the files in smaller groups from one folder helps out.
You can always organize the artists/albums later in Zen Micro Media Explorer or Creative MediaSource.
