Zen Micro Doing Some Weird THINGS PLEASE H

well i've had my zen for a long time and enjoyed it for along time till one day the screen goes blank but i could still listen to my music. its way out of warranty and i tryed to upgrade the firmware but my device wasnt recognized bye the update. Napster says its corrupt and needs to be reformatted and i dont know what to do. i took it apart and somone told me i could fiddle with a black little chip to get the screen to come back.my computer recognizes it and i can brows the files on it is there any way i could manually do the firmware update? any suggestions!!!!!! PLEASE HELP I BEG OF YOU IM DIEING WITHOUT IT

I (and many other people who own Creative products) had the same display issue that you are experiencing. I own a Creative Zen Micro. When I turned it on, the back blue light came on, but the screen was completely blank!? I could play my music, but could not see the menu, etc.
I first tried to do the reboot process, then I also upgraded the firmware. Nothing worked. After writing to Creative Labs tech support, they informed me that my MP3 player was one month beyond the warranty period. It would cost $85-$35 for tech support to fix the display problem. Ridiculous!? My techie friend told me that since it was already out of warranty, it would not hurt for me to pop open the back and see if maybe the connector from the main board to the display was loose. Well, I got even luckier than that. I openned the back, removed the battery, then I moved the back plate around trying to figure out how to pop it off. Since it was not as easy as my friend had said, I put everything back together to take it to him for help. I?turned the MP3 player on to make sure it still worked and the display was fixed!? I am thinking there must have been something loose or I just got really lucky. Anyway, it has been over 6 months and the display still works. Who knows, try what I did and maybe the same thing will happen to you. I feel for you. It is so frustrating when you spend money on something that breaks and find out it is a known issue. Good luck.

    Backup and restore your software via iTunes. If the problem continues, restore as a NEW device. If this solves it, that means there is some corruption in your backup file, or maybe it's one of your apps causing the trouble. If the problem is still there, you should take it to the Genius Bar at an Apple Store for evaluation.

    Hello, as an addition:
    In your case I would download a really new trial version of your program(s) in question and change it/them into a "real" version later, BUT because you said, that you "re-installed" already, so it will become a little bit more complicated. It would be necessary that you have to use "Adobe Creative Suite Cleaner Tool" as Keith wrote.
    Here an advice for that (The order varies depending on your individual needs. Please read all my proposals first, so you can better choose the first step:)
    1. Maybe you have to activate/deactivate, so please have a look there:

    2. Sometimes, we know in the meantime, the "opm.db file" is the culprit. In this case you should delete it.
    3. Be careful with (de)installing aso. by (de)installing by your own resources. As much as I regret it and as strange as it may seem I fear it's a challenge for Adobe's Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool. Sometimes - for whatever reasons - CC doesn't "want" to work. In this case you should CC completely delete and reinstall by help of Adobe Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool. (A try to uninstall by own resources is not enough!)

    Thanks for taking time to read this. My iPad is doing some odd things and I think it's been sicne iOS 4.2 update. The problems I'm having are:
    1) I installed The Sun newspaper app a few months back and it's been workng fine but recently it's having problems loading saying it cannot contact the server and to try later. My ISP says nothing is blocked their side. The Sun say everything is fine their side. I've updated my router but still no good. Now and again and with no pattern it will all of a sudden work. Interestingly thought, it works fine with my 3 MiFi dongle. The News Of The World App does the same thign, yet The Times and Financial Times apps work fine.
    2) When surfing on Safari it will now and again say there was a problem displaying the page. I refresh a few times and it will load. When it's saying it can't display the page I have jumped on my Windows 7 laptop and accessed the page fine.
    I have done a restore from back up and also a restore and setup as a new device. I've uninstalled/reinstalled the problem apps but to no avail.
    Anyone got any suggestions?

    1. Try resetting network settings. Tap Settings / General / Reset / Reset Network Settings.
    2. For Safari. Tap Settings / Safari. Clear the history, cookies, and cache.
    Restart your iPad. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider to turn off iPad. To turn iPad back on, press and hold the Sleep/Wake until the Apple logo appears.
    See if you notice an improvement. If not, try syncing but omit the Sun app.
    And try contacting the Sun app developer support.

  • Zen Micro Installation help...please

    I just got a 5 gig Zen Micro. All was well until I attempted to install the program in the computer, which led to "Error code -600", which told me to clear my temp folder and check my internet connections. I have a cable connection, windows XP, and Norton antivirus. Does this have anything to do with my problem? If not, what am I doing wrong?
    please, someone, help. I'm about to ritually disassemble my micro.

    ok i found the problem.
    after a few hours of googling i found that the error is caused by an outdated version of windows installer.
    to fix this problem on your computer find the folder
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield
    and rename it to
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield-old
    and then run your install again that should fix your problem

  • Zen Micro does not accurately show length of

    For most of my mp3's, the Zen Micro doesn't show the correct length of the mp3. For example, I have one mp3 that is like 20 minutes long, but for some reason it only shows a little over 4 minutes (4:06 for example).
    Once it goes past the 4 minutes, it keeps playing, but the length won't increase...so if I were to fast fwd or rewind, it does it as of the 4:06 mark.
    Other mp3's will be six minutes long and it only shows it as 20 seconds.
    Has anyone else experienced this?

    That sounds like an MP3 format problem. Try re-ripping the MP3 with a better encoder. It's probably something wrong with the way the MP3 got tagged.

  • ZEN MICRO FIRMWARE DOWNLOAD PROBLEM! PLEASE SOMEONE HELP!!!

    I've had my 6gb micro for a little over 2 wks..and i wanted to download the free 30 day Napster to go offer that came with my package..and one of the steps before downloading Napster was updating Zen Micro's firmware..well i tried and it downloaded and after it asked me to select my language, i got a message saying: "your player's not connected, please connect your player" and my mp3 was hooked up through the USB..so i tried reconnecting and it still said the same...so at this time i skipped over updating this firmware and downloaded my subscription to Napster anyway...everything was working fine..i was downloading songs in Napster and syncing them with windows media player 0 which i already had on my comp...but about 5 days ago, my syncs began to start failing often...and I'm sure that i need these firmware updates for my mp3 to transfer files successfully but the problem is that my mp3 is not being recognized every time i try to install these firmware updates.... I'm quite stumped at this point.....DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY HELP THEY CAN OFFER ME.. ID GREATLY APPRECIATE IT by the way the firmware version that came with my player and is currently on it is 2.20.05

    The firmware version you have is fine for Napster tracks, so you don't need to update. If your transfers are failing, there's something else going on.

    Sorry if this has been covered before but i'm about to start crying, i'll copy and paste another users post as i couldn't find any suitable replies to it in the firmware post.
    "I downloaded the firmware update (2.00.2) because I would prefer to use Windows Media Player to sync my player. When I try to transfer files to the Micro, WMP0 thinks they have been transferred, and memory is taken up on the player, but it does not show any files in my Music Library. Neither wma nor mp3 files work. Windows Explorer shows the player and thinks it has the files in a folder labeled "music." Has anyone had a similar problem and experience fixing it either by
    a) getting the sync to work with Windows Media Player orb) reverting to the previous firmware so I can at least transfer some music onto my player with the Creative software."
    So basically WMP shows the device and transfers to it. The space is used on the zen but no files are listed on it's
    I tried to downgrade the firmware but it says device not connected even though when i click on the firmware upgrade file the zen micro flashes up as docked?
    I'll try the rescue cleanup again but that did nothing before.

  • UPDATE - My Zen Micro DOES HAVE a STOP button - Not just Pa

    Well. I just found this out. I am not sure if this will help resolve some of the battery drain issue / standby time issue.
    On my Micro - on the top row of buttons (rew-play-ff) there are two raised bum
    ps.
    I have tried this about 00 times and it works every time.
    Start playing a song.
    Press Pause - as you would normally do.
    now press the BUMP between Play and FF (right bump).
    The song will now STOP. it is not paused the pause icon disappears and the player stops spinning. the time counter on the song resets to zero.

    GPL: Done like dinner! Returned it yesterday to the store I bought it from! They were cool as hell about it even after two months since I bought my first one original one! Gave me a full refund of $455.05 and then I decided to try out a Sony for 30 days (359.99 for the Sony/paid 333.99 for the Micro!). For 26 bucks more, I got a whole lotta more player. If I don't like it, I'll return it too and wait for Creative to fix the troubles, but so far I love it (it has a battery OFF switch too). Maybe come back and get a Zen Micro Photo!

  • Projects doing very weird things

    This has really been driving me nuts.
    I'm on Mac 10.8.5. Just recently updated to CC 2014 v8.
    I've been working on several projects lately, and very weird things are happening every time I open a project. Usually when you save and exit a project, when you reopen it, it will open to the same sequence you were last working on, but for some reason every time I open it will load a random sequence I hadn't worked on in a long time. Sometimes when I open, the project will load slowly indexing and conforming and generating peak files. After it thinking for 5 minutes, I go to play my sequence that was fine yesterday and now some audio tracks that are still in the timeline no longer contain any audio. When I match frame, the audio clip appears in source, but has no waveform and will not play any audio. Some audio tracks do not have waveforms but DO play audio, and when I match frame on those, the clip comes up and plays audio but shows no waveform.
    Restarted computer and now all the audio loads fine, but thumbnails for all video aren't showing.
    The other day I had a similar situation with VIDEO. Clips were randomly "pending" or "offline" and I would 'link' them, but it would remain offline or pending. Eventually it fixed itself somehow.
    I'm having a hell of a time here. This is really holding me back from my work. I'm not really sure how to troubleshoot this as it is different everytime.
    I'm working from an external harddrive that is brand new, and shouldn't be having any permissions issues...
    Any insight would be appreciated!

    Some trouble shooting:
    Open Premiere while holding down shift+alt until welcome screen then
    Clear out Media Cache database and remove remaining files in that folder manually.
    See if that will help.

  • Mail is suddenly doing really weird things

    Hi, I am starting to have my MAIL program acting very strange.  For one thing, it keeps shutting down for no reason. Either in the process of reading or responding to an email, just sitting idle, or in the process of downloading new mail.  I have read on forums about deleting all 3rd party plug ins (I didn't have any), deleting "things to do" in iCal (again, I lead a boring life so nothing there), relaunching (about a dozen times a day now) and just about everything else suggested short of a complete reset which I am afraid to do as I can't lose any of the emails I have in the storage. I currenty have about 20GB of free space still (and have for years). I have run Onyx and ran permission fixes gallore.  It still shuts down for no apparent reason.
    Now here are some other things it is doing since this started about a month ago.  When I close out the program from the tool bar (Quit Mail), the window closes out but the MAIL remains in the tool bar with a greyed out "QUIT MAIL".  I can not open a new window as long as this is in this way.  I have to force quit mail to get it to relaunch.
    I am also getting a lot, and I mean a lot (about 20+ per day) of my old emails from the past three years popping up in various folders that they don't belong in and indicating that they are "unread" ie: bold lettering. When I say various, I mean they are showing up in folders that have nothing to do with the subject or the client. They are suddenly appearing in other client or project's correspondence.
    So what do I do or should I do.  I have kept these emails in their folders as I do refer back to certain client subjects that are sometimes up to three years ago. One folder is just of emails from my son who passed away in 2011. His emails suddenly show up as new mail in various folders as well. I know tomorrow is Halloween, but this is a bit too spooky (or technical) for me to figure out.
    Any one have any suggestions on what could be going on?  and suggestions to fix it?  Would a complete reset of MAIL erase all my folders and emails? I could probably loose some of my old client/project emails, but I do not want to lose my son's last correspondences to me.

    Hi Lew,
    Not certain, but this can fix myriad Mail problems...
    Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup),  it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move this folder & file to the Desktop.
    Move this Folder to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/
    Move this file to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
    Reboot.
    If that doesn't do it and you can afford to redo all your Rules, try these & reboot...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist.backup
    Note, in 10.5 & up /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/ may or may not exist.
    If it continues to happen...
    Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.

  • Zen Micro Does Nothing

    I have had my Zen Micro for a while, however yesterday it just stoped working. All it does now when I start it is show "Creative" on the screen.
    I have tried rebooting it, cleaning it up, formating and reloading the firmware and nothing happens.
    It was recognising it when I pluged it into my PC but now it has stoped doing that to.
    Can anyone help me?

    As per the FAQ post, if rescue mode functions don't work unfortunately the player is faulty. You need to contact support, the details for which are also in the FAQ post.

  • Zen Micro - Does Creative care about making their product work or can someone help

    My patience for Creative has just about run out. I am hoping someone can help me because obviously Creative cannot. I bought this Zen Micro in 2005. From the very first day I had problems. I bought it for use with Napster (which I have never had any problems with).
    Back then, I had free telephone support, which I no longer have. I guess Creative realized how long they'd be on the phone with everyone since their products need constant technical support. Anyway, they told me that their software was only BETA for Napster. I never would have purchased it if I had known this. My original problems were that if I shut off the player, I would lose everything I had transferred to it. I believe that updates since then have fixed it. I also learned how to avoid this - I locked the device and let it go into idle shutdown. This would allow the device to start up normally next time.
    My problems now are as follows. It STILL (two years later) is freezing if I try to transfer more than 5 or 6 tracks. Freezes with no way to fix it unless you unplug it while it's docked. I had to pull out the battery to get it to restart. Now it's lost all my playlists (although the songs are still there) and if I play a song, all the information is gone. You can hear the song but the screen just says something about going to play mode to play a song - while the song is playing. Also, my computer is now not recognizing that the player is connected so I can't get it to connect to Napster to even try to re-start my transfers. I've rebooted the computer and the player. Now I have no idea what to do. I tried to update the driver from Creative but if the computer isn't noticing it's connected, now can I get it to update?
    I will never, ever buy a Creative again. But for now, can anyone help me?

    I posted this to get the attention of, maybe, a Creative tech who might be reading some of the posts.
    I have upgraded most of the computer software, firmware, hardware, and other periferals at some time or another with out this much trouble.
    The main problem is that after part of the firmware has been loaded the micro hangs and the computer wants me to install a driver so it can communicate with the micro via the USB port, that same port it was using just prior to do the firmware download. Now the micro can not connect via the USB port in this computer or any other computer I try.
    How can I get this situation resolved? I have read other posts and tried the suggested actions but none worked with my first micro and I don't want to put this one in the same locked out state.
