Zen Micro ear p

My Zen Micro plays great and the sound quality is great but the socket in the case for the ear phones is loose and the sound cuts in and out and stays out most of the time. I have tried several different headsets and all do the same thing. Based on this I believe the socket needs to be replaced. Where can I find a repair shop as th eunit is out of waranty?

Hi Pezza,
You didn't mention which firmware you have on the player, check that first.
If it's version .x - get these files from our Downloads page, and install them in the same order as listed:
Creative Zen and Jukebox Driver Upgrade version .30.03 - JB3MV2_PCWDRV_US__30_03.EXE
Creative MediaSource Player/Organizer 3.30.2 - CMS_PCAPP_LB_3_30_2.exe
Creative Zen and NOMAD Jukebox plugin 2.00.20 for Creative MediaSource - CMS_PJB3_PCApp_LB_2_00_20.exe
If the firmware is version 2.x, then you can get the second file from that list (MediaSource), and get this plugin:
Creative MediaSource Plugin for PlaysForSure devices (version .00.8) - CMS_PCMTP_LB__00_8.exe
And Windows Media Player 0 from Microsoft's site.
You can get all the blue updates from our Downloads page, just select the Zen Micro in the list and it will show you all the files that are available.

so yeah. i somehow ripped my left ear phone cord fromt he part where both of them connect. and honestly, i truely LOVE the Zen Micro earphones. Im wondering if there is anyway if i can somehow get the zen micro earphones again or something... or if there are any good earphones u guys reccommend. id like suggestions.

    Hi bustamebus,
I have both the EX5's and the EX7's but they are not a patch on the Sharp MD33's I got about a month ago, they are MUCH better in the sound quality area than the Sony's, nice clear mid/treble and strong bass, not overpowering like the Sonys.
Also the EX7's sound muddled compared with the MD33's. All these phones are used on my Zen Micro, another advantage of the MD33's is that they are louder than the Sonys, I no this does not appeal to all of you out there but sometimes you can't beat a bit of volume.
    The choice is your's.

  • Zen Micro not recognized in Dev. Mgr. or Media Sou

OK, I got this Zen Micro off of Ebay. It has some songs already loaded on it, they work fine, sound is great. It came with the CD, and I installed it onto my computer (XP SP2). I'm under the impression the USB cable it came with works because I plugged it into the wall charger and got a full charge, and when I plug the USB cable into the computer the charge icon shows up. But the device didn't show up in Media Source or in the Device Manager. There is no Windows Portable Device listing, nothing Creative listed under the USB listing, and no Other/Unknown listing.
The player has firmware 2.2.02. I updated the Media Source to 3.30.2. After I read that the version 2.x is for the PlaysforSure thing I downloaded an update for MS that said it was for PFS and the Zen Micro. Then I tried to install an update for the Zen Micro Media Explorer [the one that says: Zen Micro Media Explorer (version 4.00.27) and Zen Micro Media Explorer (PlaysForSure?) (version .00.2)] but it got to the point in the install for me to plug in and turn on the player, which I did, but I had to exit out of the install because it still didn't see it and wouldn't continue any farther.
I've read the links given in the sticky topic up top about Playsforsure/Zen. I have WMP .0.572.5230. I saw a bunch of older threads about WMP causing problems but it appears by now that has been fixed?
The computer is a Dell Dimension E52 bought in January. I can't do the steps for unplugging all the other USB devices because my keyboard, mouse, and external HDD (which I use for almost everything) are plugged into them. I've tried the player on the 4th USB port in the back of the computer and both the ones in the front.
I haven't tried anything with the cleanup thing or firmware because a) I'm terrified because I've seen so many threads about firmware issues destroying the player and b) I can't update the firmware without the computer seeing the player, right?
I think that's about all the information I have to supply so far. The mp3 player is supposed to be a birthday present for my husband (his party is this weekend) so I'm really hoping I'm missing something obvious and quick to fix!! If anyone has anything to share I'm all ears!

    C'mon.... please?

  • Newbie here...some Zen Micro questions/suggestio

Hi im new Okay i have some questions for y'all:
Will having only usb .0 work for a zen micro? I have a n200 and it works fine, just wondering if the micro will work on my computer too.
Yes, I recently ordered a Zen Micro. Unfortunately that was before i came to this forum, and after witnessing that massi've 08 page headphone jack thread, I'm getting very worried. Are there any people out there who are satisfied with the micro? If you have problems, don't reply with a MICRO SUX0RZ **bleep** THE MICRO. I need some feel-good stories!
And one quick final clarification about the headphone jack problems: Is the problem actually fixed in the later shipments of the zen micro? I'm pretty sure mine will be a later model since it's not going to come with a wall charger, but I haven't been able to find a definiti've answer for it. Is there anyone out there who've never had this problem? again, that stupid 08page thread
    Thanks!

got my zen micro5gb as a gift, loaded this thing with everything indie... started to notice if i moved a little bit the music would cut out and it would be music distorted, without the vocal, another movement and its all back. so i figured it was bad headphones, the zen ones hurt youre ears. so i bought jvc buds $22 nyc bargain, they work great, then suddenly same thing..in and out so i got a rma and sent it , next thing i know now i have a 6 gig nice right, i charge it up and here i am sitting here the darn thing isnt being connected by my computer, i cant load music on or anything, so im figuring buy another usb. - 2.0 cord. i've already written a letter in, i dont see why there isnt 24hr help, alot of products to offer and not enough help. 2 days for an email reply, ha.. i can buy a new one in that time. -mc

  • I can´t organize files on my Zen Micro using MP10 (and can I get rid of the firmwar

Hi, I installed the software that came with the Zen, the first one hung up my computer (forgot what it was called) but media explorer seemed to work ok. I was recommended to install the firmare so that I could transfer files using MP0. I did this (one of the earlier versions). I drag and drop my music folders into MP0 and sincronize but when they are transfered I get new folder created with new names onto my Zen (album names, song names etc.) everything disordered and many folders with only one song in them. I can't seem to figure out how to organize my music. Is there a way of reformatting the player, get rid of the firmware and make it work properly with media explorer again (since media explorer doesn?t recognise the player after the firmware instalation) Please help, the sound quality of this player is great but music transfers and organizing is giving me a big headache.

    Ear-Rock,
You can download the version of Zen Micro Media Explorer that support the MTP firmware you have now on the player. The version is 4.00.8 and is available on the website. You can also change the firmware to the PDE one by downloading and installing the PDE firmware version .02.05.

  • I dropped my Zen Micro 6gb like a week

i was at the gym and i turned my head suddenly (with the earphones in my ears) and it fell on the floor i have to say it might have been foot fall. When i picked it up the music would play but the screen was blank.....so i figured i'll jsut let it rest so i did and it had been working fine until today..i turned it on went througth comin on process fine but then it would just freeze at the point where the screen has teh Zen Micro on it...it's passed it's warranty sooo i can't send it in and i don't have the money o get a new one is there anything that i can do?

Unfortunately there's no guide for replacing the Micro hard dri've yet.
You can of course contact Creative and get it repaired out of warranty, but it will be expensi've.

  • Trouble with Zen Micro.. wondering if there is any way to

Hi, I've had my Zen Micro for about 8 months now and over time and use it seems that the ear phone jack has come loose, I was wondering if there is any way to fix this or tighten it up?

Contact Creative Customer Support thru Support > Contact Customer Support on this site (the exact URL varies by country). This is considered a warranty repair, so it doesn't matter where you bought it as long as it's a legitimate seller (and yes, Wal-Mart qualifies).
Since it has been more than 3 months but less than a year, you may owe a labor charge for warranty repairs (currently $25 in the US). That doesn't apply in some countries, including most of Europe.

  • Headphone Problem and Zen Micro

    hi,
Before I start, I already know that the problem I am having is not related directly to the headphones themselves.
My problem is that i have gone through two different headphones, and both of them (different brands) the sound has completely died in the left ear, while the right channel works perfectly. They both have broken after the same time period of having them, which is around 3-4 months. I dont think i am abusing my headphones, but i do take my headphones out of the socket about once a day to connect the zen to my stereo system hookup (which sounds beautifully and comes out of both channels). I think that kind of use shouldnt break the headphones, and also if i were actually be abusing them that both channels would go dead. I have found no other problems like this skimming in the fourums, but if this has happened to you, i would like to know if it is the zen or the headphones.
Any help would be really greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,

I am basically having the same problem. Any help I could get on where to get it repaired, approximate cost, etc. would be greatly appreciated.

  • Lower sound Zen Vision Plus than Zen Micro Pho

Hello! I have had Zen Micro/Zen Micro Photo in -2 years, before I this year switched to some Asono player, but the sound was low on that, and I wanted to go back to Creative for it's quality and sound. So I bought the new small Zen Vision Plus, very satisfied with video & other cool new functions! And to secure me a good sound, I bought big Creative headphones for 400 NOK, and they are very good with good sound and base(bass). But whenever I used the MP3 player, the sound dissapointed me, I also tried with the default earphones which followed, and the sound is still not as high as on Creative Zen Micro/Photo.My friend has Creative Zen Micro the old one, and we started the same song at the same time on both our players, and tried with the default headphones and the new headphones which I bought. And belei've you me the sound on his MP3 (Zen Micro) was much louder then on mine. So it is dissapointing to see that I am stuck with this MP3 with lower sound. I love the design & functions on Zen V Plus, and love the sound on Zen Micro. So I don't want to go back to Zen Micro. Is there some way to fix this? Some sort of upgrade? Or has it something to do that the MP3 in USA has lower sound and MP3 in Europe has higher, or the other way around? How do I check where my MP3 is from?I hope someone here has tips & tricks or solution to this problem, very annoying that my MP3 is "almost perfect"! I got to go play tennis now, waiting for a positi've reply, thanks a lot guys! Every single post is helpfull, thanks again!

well man all i can say is...bigger isnt always better. I have a Zen Micro Photo, its about a year old, i just have regular good ol target special headphones and its loud enough to blow an ear drum. Sometimes if i dont feel like?wearing headphones, i just turn it all the way up and set the headphones on my desk or something. sooooooooooooooooo i would just stick to the stuff you know is good...plus the micro photo is BAMF

  • Creative Zen Micro problem! PLEASE HELP

    can anyone help me please?
I am on my 3rd replacement for my Zen Micro. I have had problems with switching my Zen on and for it to even attempt to function properly. I turn on my Zen and once the screen turns back to the song that i was playing when i previously turned it off, it plays about 2 seconds of the song and then releases an unpleasant high pitched drone in my ears. This happens 9 times out of 0 whenever i switch on my Zen.
I am doing nothing different whatsoever, other than listening to it throughout the day. It still has 4GB left! I really am very upset about it all.
This is now getting ridiculous. I have rebooted it, uploaded firmware, formatted my Zen and wiped it then put all of the music back on, "cleaned it up" and still i have problems. I am VERY angry, frustrated and completely disappointed in this product. I have never found so many problems with a product!
Please let me know what can be done.
I have emailed Creative Support 4 times in the past week and i have had nothing in return. I need a new player as i use it every day. I cant get a refund (i dont think) because it was a gift and my dad bought it online. I just want a working Creative mp3 player.
    Thanks!

It sounds like you've tried everything as far as troubleshooting goes (updating firmware, the options in Recovery Mode). Unfortunately it does look like there is a problem with your player then.
You didn't mention when you originally got the player (the first one, or your last replacement), but in any case it would be best to speak to Customer Support and outline the problems you've been having, and let them know you're not happy, to see what they can do for you.
Regarding e-mail, did you get an auto response back? If not, check your spam filter (if you have one), as you will always get an auto response back when you e-mail us or use the webform. If you did get the auto response, check over it, as usually you are meant to reply to it if the included basic tips don't help, so that someone will deal with your mail directly.

  • Zen Micro: FM is always m

I'm curious if other people are having the same problems with the FM radio. The problem is that FM radio is always mono even though the indicator is showing stereo. The icons on the FM recording screen are only moving for one channel which would imply that the signal is actually monophonic. I don't have any problem with MP3s and I have tried different headphones. I'm also using the latest firmware.
Also, it would be a nice feature to be able to imitate stereo by replicating the mono signal to both the left and right channels. It's really annoying to listen to the radio in just one ear.

It is not only with Zen Micro. It is same for my Zen Touch I guess it is just a teeny radio sound not even stereo. I wonder if there is any setting for this.

  • Zen Micro FM Recept

I bought the Zen Micro for the sole purpose of recording my favorite morning show while i was getting ready, but it turns out, the FM recpetion stinks. Even my Emmerson 996 tape player gets better reception than this thing. So i was wondering if there was ANYTHING i could do to get some better sound out of the FM tuner, maybe put some aluminum foil around it, or will a firmware update do the trick, please help me out. Creative, you got a good product, but come on, fix that FM Tuner!

I had a lot of problems with FM Reception with my first Micro too. Turns out I also had a problem with the headphone jack. When I would insert the headphones, if they weren't in a certain way or moved around, sound only came out of the right ear. My brother's didn't do this. I returned the unit to Wal-Mart, purchased another one, and the headphone jack works great. My FM Reception is also ALOT better. Places in my house I couldn't get any reception, I now get full stereo. Check your headphone jack.

  • Some zen micro observati

Hi all. I have had my zen Micro for a couple of days already and hier are some observations that concern issues with the player: so, after a day of usage I noticed that the BACK, the PLAY/PAUSE and the OPTIONS buttons do not respond any longer. I can try for about a minute and they just do not respond. The Vertical Scroll and the FF and the REW butons are ok. When I recharge the battery however, the buttons begin to respond , but they are not as sensiti've as the Last three mentioned. They are still ok, but when the battery goes empty , they are dead.
Then another observation: When I turn the player off, I hear a very quiet high frequency noice (my ear very close to the player), which indicates that there is some battery flow. I do not hear this noice when the player is on and when music plays. While the player is off and the noise is there I remove the battery and the noise goes off. What can this be. Why do not my buttons respond as normal, and whay there is a hardly audible high frequency noise while the player is off? Did I get a faulty player?
    Thanx for any help!

Beacause the player is faulty..... I hate to sy it but you're going to have to get a replacement most likely. I would reload the firmware and do a disk clean up but you will most likely have to go back to the shop you bought it from or contact Creative for an RMA.
As for some quick troubleshooting I'd suggest going into Rescue Mode but removing the battery. Then while replacing the battery pressing and holding the power switch in the on position. It should power up into Rescue Mode and you will see a list of options. Select Clean Up and a % complete will be shown as scan disk is run. It should only take a few moments. Reboot and power off to see if you can still hear the low buzz you described. If that doesn't work then try the Reload OS via USB option. Download firmware version .0.03 from the site and go from there. Best of luck! The player is amazing and well worth *some* hassle

  • Zen micro: mine displays incorrect track duration t

    Hello all,
I've had my zen mirco since january 2005, and i've noticed that a bunch of the tracks display the incorrect duration time...usually by around 40 seconds. for example, windows (and windows media player) will say a track is 6:02 duration and zen explorer and the device itself will say the duration is 5:35.
in fact, a bunch of my songs on my zen micro say that the duration time is 0:00 when they clearly are not. when these tracks are played on the device, the track time bar is completely full and plays normally.
has anyone else noticed problems with duration times?
although all the songs play normally (ie. they dont get cut off) its just annoying that i payed so much money for a device that shows incorrect information. and when i try to skim through a track that shows 0:00 duration, it just skips to next song when i press the >> button. weird huh?

onemanarmy wrote:i always rip using constant bit rates, and i choose either 92 or 320; using windows media player. while we on this subject of cd ripping, what do suggest is best format/settings for ripping, and which program, if there is a difference?
As per the FAQ, it's down to the ears of the individual. You might prefer a particular codec or bit-rate, whereas someone else might not like it. It's best to experiment for yourself.
In terms of MP3 though, LAME is widely acknowledged as being the better codec for high bit-rate music encoding. Most rippers can be configured to use this.
