  • Zen Micro - - - Setting Recording Lev

    Hi All,
Is there any way on the Zen Micro to adjust recording levels? Everyone knows that all CD original recordings were not created equally - some are loud, some too loud, some recorded at barely a whisper. I want to make sure that the flow of different tracks on my Zen Micro are all at the same level. Any help would be appreciated. Happy Holidays!!
    Dan S.

Thanks SSR. I tried it out and it seems that the "Smart Volume" function lowers the volume of the majority of tracks to the lowest common denominator level - meaning that louder and better cd recordings are lowered to match the less than stellar recrdings. I was hoping to boost the lower recordings to a higher level since the micro zen paired with the Sony fontopia E7 earbuds already struggles with louder volume reproduction.
With my old tape deck recorder, I could boost or lower the recording level at the source instead of manipulating the signal after it is recorded.
    Thanks.

  • Zen micro- slows down speech fi

I have a zen micro, and when I transferred speech type files, such as a comedy routine, the zen micro downloaded it, but when I play it on the player the speech of the file is considerable slowed down. It does this all of my files like that. How can I fix this problem?
    Thanks!

To SSR: please see my reply in 'the other thread' of hobbes4444
    > In all fairness I would guess this file format is not common hence it's difficult to expect Creative to support it.
It's actually quite common for voice tracks, and for that reason alone it is not difficult to expect Creative (or potentially Apple) to support it. Also, the firmware upgrade should not at all be difficult, although I don't expect Creative to supply me with the circuit diagrams and source code to allow me to back up that statement.
    >Of course it would be wonderful for Creative to support all audio formats within all ranges, but they have to find a balance on the amount of programming effort it would take versus the amount of expenditure they can make on the product.
As a business owner, I understand the concept of profit vs customer satisfaction. That is why I am trying to find other customers with the same problem; if there aren't enough, nothing will happen. Obviously you do not have a lot of voice tracks and so should not care, so at the same time you should not discourage others like me from voicing what is to us a very strong concern. It appears that, for the same price at suggested retail, I can buy a 20G external hard dri've and a 2 year old flash-based player device that has the functionality I want --and I will have twice the storage of the Zen Micro.
Worse is the inherent misrepresentation: the outside of the box claims it is an MP3 player; only in the technical specifications inside the box or buried in the web site are the caveats made clear. Now my nai'vete has been dispelled, and I understand that all MP3 players are not created equal, but only upon discovering that the percei'ved value of my product was cut in half.

  • Zen micro connections probl

We just changed our OS from xp home to xp professional because our technican said that our xp home doesnt support usb 2.0 When it was done I got the zen micro cd and installed meciasource, drivers, zen micro explorer and wmp 0. Our PC has 4 usb ports, 2 front 2 back. When I tried connecting my micro to the first front port it wasnt recognized and my micro locked up. I had to remove the battery to get it going again. Then I tried the other front port and it worked.
Then after a few days I connected my micro and the usual box that pops out from the system tray pops out that its connected. However in mediasource it says player not connected. I tried restarting my PC but it didnt work. So I did a disk cleanup on my micro and it was recognized by mediasource. But after transfering the first two songs it timed out on the next couple of songs. Then it transferred some songs. When it was done my player wasnt recognized by mediasource. I tried the two back ports but only one is working. The other one has the same problem as stated above.
Can anyone help me fix this? Its such a hassle to use the back port every time coz I have to move some things around the PC to acces the back ports. All usb ports are working with our digital camera. Im also afraid that waht happened to the front port that was working previously would happen to the back port and then I cant transfer any songs anymore.

    miguel wrote:
The front ports worked with the micro for a while after installing xp pro. And it was usb 2.0. On our xp home that is always updated the front ports were only usb .. So this means that our front ports are usb 2.0 right?
The de facto way to check is (a) to ensure you have XP SP, and that you've double checked in Device Manager that the chipset has automatically upgraded to USB2 (it doesn't always happen) and (b) to connect a high speed device to the port.
Our digicam and cellphone all connect on the front ports in usb 2.0 Only the micro doesnt work the front ports.
I've just written this in another post, that not all USB chipsets are made equal. Cheaper chipsets no doubt aren't fully tested or they don't comply with the full USB standard. Creative have assured that their players and drivers are completely compliant with the USB standard. BUT it could be some other bug comes into play, either with the Creative driver or the chipset and drivers. Hard to say. I've seen similar problems with iPods.
I think our usb came with the motherboard. I dont remember any pci cards. I think our mobo is intel D865GBV but im not really sure. Is there a way to know what our motherboard is?
You can use a product like Belarc Adviser, which will check the hardware contents of the PC.

  • Zen Micro - transfer lock ups with latest firmwa

I've been trying to transfer mp3 files to my firmware upgraded Zen Micro and find that the transfer slows down and then locks the player after 30-40 files have successfully copied. This happens with ..0 and 2.2.02 firmwares.
The player will then remain in a 'acti've' docked state (black arrows) until the battery is removed. After this lock up tags on the mp3 files are messed up and display Chinese looking characters in the Details View.
This happens on two different computers with USB2.0, one Intel based and the other AMD.
Two questions - anyone know if this is a known issue being worked on for an imminent firmware update? And secondly - is the problem aggravated (or even created) because I am trying to copy files over from a directory tree (mp3's sorted into artist/album/ folders) rather than one flat folder with all mp3s in it (ie. in one single folder).

I'd try transferring fewer files at a time and see if that works.
You might be on to something with copying from a directory tree too. See if transferring the files in smaller groups from one folder helps out.
You can always organize the artists/albums later in Zen Micro Media Explorer or Creative MediaSource.

  • New Zen Micro will NOT connect!

    Hello all,
I just bought a Creative Zen Micro player. I installed the software, charged the battery to full and guess what.....the Creative software does not recognize my player as being connected. And yes, I've checked device manager to see if it appears. It does, with the correct name and everything. So what is the problem? I've read other messages on this forum about this problem but it usually seems to be a problem after installing a new version of firmware. But this hasn't been done in my case because I haven't been able to get the stupid thing connected in the first place.
I'm confused as to what to do next. I've tried resetting it by removing the battery and then holding the power button but this hasn't worked either. I first was using a usb hub to connect but after reading that you should avoid this, I tried plugging directly into a usb port on my machine. That also didn't make a difference. I've unistalled the player from the device manager about 5 times and reinstalled it. I've tried reinstalling the creative software/drivers about 5 times and no resolution. I've followed instructions from the Creative website step by step as the proper way to install the software but nothing works. I'm extremely disappointed to bring home a product that does not work out of the box. Oh, and yes I have Windows XP Pro so the OS isn't the issue here. I guess I will just return this useless product unless someone else has another idea that I could try. I'm really at my wits end.
Thanks for listening to this short novel,
    Drawn-a-Blank

The software that will not recognize the player is the Zen Media Explorer and Media Source. I'm not sure what firmware I have and I can't check since I'm not at home. But, I can't install new firmware even if I wanted too since it won't connect. However, I have downloaded the lastest drivers but I don't think I've installed the lasted version of Zen Media Explorer, so I guess that is one other option.

Have tried to download drivers and software for Zen Micro. When I try to run it though, it does not install because it says that I do not have device connected. Have erased everything off of Zen Micro, but have not reformatted. When I attach Zen Micro to PC, Zen Micro displays "booted" & PC displays "Zen Micro" for a second or two, then switches to "MTP Device"?. Do I need to erase everything from the Zen Nano Plus first?2. What do you think my next step should be?Thx???

  • Creative MediaSource won't recognize my Zen Micro all of the sudden!! What is going o

When I first began using my Zen Micro, Creative MediaSource worked fine. I could start my player and it recognized it right away. Then I was told I had to update my firmware and download an update to MediaSource. I did both but shortly thereafter I started having problems! Primarily, when i plug in my Micro a window pops up where I have 3 options, none of which are Creative MediaSource. The window has "MTP Media Player" across the top bar, but i havn't a clue what the "MTP" stands for. The 3 options given are "Sync your music using Napster", "Synchronize media files to this device using Windows Media Player", and "Take no action". I initialy tried "Take no action" and then opened MediaSource only to find it didn't recognize my Micro any more. I then e-mailed Creative for help and got a reply telling me to.............
Thank you for contacting Creative Technical Support.
In regards to your issue, you can try uninstall and reinstall
    MEdiaSource with these procedures.
. Click START -> RUN -> type MSCONFIG and click OK.
    2. Click SELECTIVE STARTUP and then uncheck LOAD STARTUP GROUP ITEMS.
    3. Apply the changes and reboot the computer when prompted.
    4. Uninstall MediaSource from the system using ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS.
    5. Manually delete the MediaSource folders from the computer system :
    C:\PROGRAM FILES\CREATIVE\MEDIASOURCE
    C:\PROGRAM FILES\CREATIVE\CTCDDB
    C:\PROGRAM FILES\CREATIVE\MEDIA MANAGER
    C:\MEDIA\MUSIC
    6. Right-click your My Computer icon and click Properties.
    7. Click the Hardware tab and then click Device Manager.
    8. Remove any listings for Creative NOMAD products in the Device
    Manager
(they will most likely be located in the Uni'versal Serial Bus
    Controllers category).
    9. If you have a category call Other Devices, look for listings in
    there
called USB Device. If you have any, remove them.
    0. Install MediaSource only from the original installation CD.
NOTE: DO NOT OPEN MEDIASOURCE WHILE PERFORMING THESE PROCEDURES.
Also, you can try reloading the Zen Micro's firmware through recovery
    mode.
Move and hold the Power button to the Power On position and re-insert
the battery to the Zen Micro. Hold the Power button until the rescue
    mode appears.
Clean Up: Performs a disk scan on the players hard disk
Format: Formats the players hard disk All contents will be lost
Reload OS: Reloads the Operating System on the Jukebox. Do not select
this option unless you have downloaded the firmware. Reloading your OS
will not effect the contents of the files stored on your Jukebox Zen
    Reboot: Reboots the device
Please attempt the options 'Reboot' and 'Clean Up' first. If they do
    not
help, you must try 'Reload OS'. To do this, you must have a downloaded
firmware from our website ready. Please let us know the results after
these steps, as soon as possible.
For faster service please reply with previous correspondence when
    replying to this email.

    "Get Creative"
I followed the directions, but 3 of the folders listed in step 5 didn?t exist (only C:\PROGRAM FILES\CREATIVE\MEDIASOURCE did), there were no Creative NOMAD products listed as in step 8, and there was no ?Other Devices? as stated in step 9. I did everything else for all the steps through step 0.
I then re-installed Creative MediaSource from the CD only to find it still didn?t recognize my player! I?ve now done this twice with the same results!
Zen Micro Media Explorer doesn?t even recognize my Micro when it'ss plugged in! It just keeps saying ?The device is not connected. Please connect your Zen Micro to the computer?.
I?m hardly a tech expert, but it seems to me that something on my PC is detecting my player and decieding for itself that the only 2 programs it will let manage my Zen Micro are Napster and Windows Media Player. If this is the case where do I go from here?!?!

    LakeTahoeGuy,
Just as SSR mention, if you're using v2.xx.xx (MTP) firmware then you will need to get the correct version of Media Explorer that support this firmware and also install the MTP plugin for MediaSource. Both the software and plugin are available from the site SSR mention.

  • I've installed firmware for my zen micro, now i can't use my creative software! Please he

I wanted to download some music from napster and to play it on my player it told me I needed a firmware upgrade. I knew from buying my player that I probably would need to upgrade so I did. Once I installed the upgrade, and plugged my zen micro in and now it will only let me use windows media player? to transfer my music to my player. I hate this software as it doesn't work brilliantly, I was really happy with the creative software, but now when I plug in my micro and open the creative software it won't recognise it. I've tried reinstalling the creative software but its made no difference. Also, a box keeps coming up with something called MTP what is this? Can anyone help me with this problem? I would really appreciate it!

MTP is microsoft's media transfer protocol. Essentially, your micro can now connect to WinXP SP2 computers with WMP0 without loading Creative drivers.
The new firmware you installed allows you to drag and drop files to your micro using windows explorer. In order to use any of Creative's software, you'll need to download and install updated versions from their website.

  • How to transfer all music in my Zen Micro to either my PC or another mp3 player....help ple

i have a creative micro zen with about 000 handpicked and some very hard to find songs on it...i don't really have trouble with the player itself, just the software and the continous problems seems like everyone is having with something... my question is this..........if i wanted to get another mp3 player as a backup in case this one crashes, then what does everyone think about one of the smaller ipods? what about their software and such? and, if i do decide to get an ipod, then how would i transfer all these 000 mp3 songs onto the new ipod? would there be an issue with the fact that they are not bought from itunes?? would it not be safe to do that? and if it is okay to do that,? how would i transfer the songs back onto my PC, as i have tried everything suggested on this board recently in trying to do that using Mediasource and it just won't work even after downloading all new plugins etc. if someone has an idea about this, please let me know step by step if possible about how i can get these songs that are valuable to me from my zen micro, to my computer, and then onto another mp3 and if ipod (nano for instance) is a wise choice or if there is another player in the same category that others have found they have waaaay less problems with and better support/service with it's?any help anyone gives would be greatly appreciated!? i appreciate all the suggestions to my other questions as well!?thanks, barb

for a new mp3 player, i would get this one, its awesome (and the one i would get if i had a choice instead of my microphoto that broke)... here's a link

  • Can I transfer Music from One Zen Micro to another Zen Mic

    Hello,
I've had my Zen Micro (Green) for 3 weeks now and now my girlfriend wants one a Zen Micro too, which she'll get in the next few days. I was wondering if there's any way to transfer mp3s from my Zen Micro to hers?
I was thinking if I plugged 2 Zen Micros into my PC and then load up the Nm=oman Player and just drag the songs from one Zen Micro to another......will that work. Or is it best to just drat the songs onto the PC and then transfer them onto my Girlfriend's Zen?

I would imagine you can do that .... although you may need the latest firmware 2.xxxxx which would mean you have to use WMP 0 ...
I should wait until she gets hers then plug it into your PC and see if it recognises it .... if it does you have no worries .. if not post again and everyone will do there best to help out

I have owned a 5GB Zen Micro for about 3 years. Up until about 4 months ago I had no problem with the unit holding it's charge for several hours. Now I can't get it to last for more than 0-5 minutes when using the FM radio. By that time the battery indicator shows hardly any charge left and then it does dead. Any [email protected]

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I had considered the possibility that the battery may indeed be at the end of it's life. I love this model so much I hope to keep using it for years to come provided I have no further more costly problems. Despite it's greater thickness compared to similiar models it is a very attracti've looking unit.
The reason I chose?the Zen Micro?in the first place, as opposed to an iPod?was because I could replace the battery if need be, and also for it's FM radio capability. I?did have to have the chip that contains the earphone jack connections replaced last year, as many other owners have also had to do. But it was worth the $60 it cost me.

I had originally planned to buy an iPod back in '04, because everyone else had one, but after I saw? this video I decided to do some more research. I ended up with a 5 Gb Zen Micro in February '05 and wondered why anyone buys an iPod, when a far superior product was available from Creative.
The original battery started? to go about a year and a half ago, so I popped a new one in and kept on enjoying it. I thought that I would finally have to say goodbye to my little friend when I accidentally dropped it onto a tile floor. The dreaded click/whirr...click/whirr...click/whirr... of a dead hard dri've.
I read a few posts on the Say Goodbye to My Little Friend (Zen Micro)? thread and replaced the dead hard dri've with a SanDisk 8Gb? Ultra II Compact Flash card, using the instructions on? this page.
I was so happy to see it boot up aain and once the firmware was loaded, I started filling it up with some of my favourite music. It's nice to have an extra 3 Gb of storage space too!?

  • Creative zen micro working with itunes.

for i long time i have been using the musiclibrary organisation tool provided by creative... and i have been satisfied...
but last week i discovered itunes... for all i know itunes was originally for apple products only (such as the ipod)... but i read various articles concerning this topic... and i found out that some people believe that it is possible to work with itunes and the zen mico... and here is the point: "How can i tell itunes to work with my great player zen micro?"
just to make sure that there is no offense... i liked the creative tool very much, but from my point of view itunes has got a tiny lead in inconsiderable details...
so i'm counting on your help... hoping to get an answer soon... jok3r

    Zach,
Have you try the legacy driver in this post before with WMP9? Although the Micro Photo player isn't listed in the list, other forum member has posted success with the driver so if you haven't try it yet might as well give it a try.

  • Creative zen micro line-in recordi

I read a review of the zen micro at CNET.com, and their short video clip tells me that the zen micro has line-in recording. However, nowhere does it state/mention that feature in the zen micro homepage, nor is it mentioned in any other site. I would just like to confirm that the zen micro doesn't have line-in recording...

Yep, the CNET.COM video review did mention about a line-in recording function. But maybe because that video was recorded way before the Zen Micro was actually launched, therefore there was a mix up in information. And so no, Creative Zen Micro does not have a line-in recording function. However, the Zen Neeon and Zen Nano Plus does have line-in recording if you're interested =)

  • Creative zen micro in the c

is there anyway i can hook my zen micro up in the car so it plays through my speakers and radio deck? . i see they have a belkin zen thing, but is that just a holder for it for going in your cup holder? if i cant listen to my zen in the car im tossing it and getting an ipod, i have enough problems with the welding on the head phone jack... .

If you've got a cassette player in your car, you can play your micro thru that (I do it all the time) using a cassette adaptor you can get for around $20 from practically anywhere. If not, seems like you'd have to go the FM transmitter route which will cost you more (see link). If your car has a single jack port (like the one used to connect your headphones to your micro), it should work with more than just an Ipod. My friend uses his for a non-pod product---you'd just need the little cable to go from your micro to your car's jack. http://us.creative.com/products/prod...57&product=427
