Zen Micro-File Transfers keep failin

Hi,
I just got my Zen Micro 3 days ago and am having problem with the file transfers from my PC to my Zen. I've already downloaded the new firmware.
What happens is that I only manage to transfer a few files (i.e. "Completed" status) each time before the Status changes from Pending to Failed. And after which, my Zen appears to freeze or hang. Even when I cancel the transfer and exit out of the Media Explorer, the icon on my Zen still shows that its still in the process of transferring and touching any of those buttons on the touchpad just won't get me out of that screen. Its only when I remove the USB port will the screen change back to the previous menu. And I have to shut down the Zen and restart it again to begin the whole process each time. And each time, I can download like 5 songs before the Failed Status start showing up again.
But there was just one occassion where I managed to download like 30+ songs at one go before it hangs.
Has anyone experienced a similar problem before and willing to share with me how I can go about resolving it's
Thks,
mel

The exact same problem happened to me. I went to the link specified by SSR. I tried one of the solutions there, which is stop using a hub.... so I connect the USB cable directly to my PC's USB ports.
It's working fine now. Thanks for the tip!

  • Zen micro file transfer error and playing mista

My Zen Micro 5GB had some problems wih the sound:sometimes, listening to a song, I heard (more orless) a second of another song but after that isreturned to the selected one. This is not the only problem: sometimes, whentransferring data between a PC and the player'sstorage dri've (2GB) it stops after a while. When transferring music from the player to the PCusing Music Organizer the PC receives some musicbut after a while it stops and displays amessage 'Cannot transfer file: file not found';after this, the player remains 'busy' also if youclose all the programs opened. I tried to fix this in many ways I installed the version 2.x firmware, so Icould re-install the latest .x version.2) I learned how to access the recovery functionsand I tried all of themBut after all this, it continues to display theerror message and I think sometimes it could stopplaying the song I'm listenig to and play asecond of another one.

all the songs are mp3 format
the transfer window pops up, the status will say writing for about 5sec. then the error comes up and says unable to create file - restart player and try again.
but then the player has the acti've docked logo on, which you aren't supposed to unplug from the computer when that's on, but it will not go off. I've left it for hours and ended up unplugging it anyway. So I've restarted it, pulled the batter and retried that a few times too.
    Any ideas?

  • Creative Zen Micro: Windows process keeps player b

    Hi,
Usually, after synchronizing my player through Windows MP, my Zen Micro goes back to the state where you can select and play songs (so not the state with the two arrows). However, lately, after shutting down WMP it stays in the state with two arrows. Only when I shut down my machine, it returns to the original state, leading me to believe some process must keep the Zen from returing to the operational state.
Has anyone else had this problem? Any solutions?
I'm using FW 2..2 on a WinXP machine.
    Many thanks in advance.

Yep, that's it basically. I think it's an inherent "problem" (feature?) with MTP. Just make sure no applications are using the player, but that should be obvious.
Its actually the programs fault and its normally Microsoft made ones. It doesnt close off the session with the device so thats why it still keeps it busy.
Real Player does close off the session everytime, and so does MusicMatch, as alternati've programs.

Includes an MTP Monitor utility to see exactly what goes on behind the scenes of every data transaction that your computer and your PlaysForSure device does. Its interesting and I found that Windows Explorer/My Computer and Windows Media Player 0 are the only programs which do not end the session when they are closed.

  • Zen micro file prob

Hello, i own a red zen micro 5gb, last mtp firmware loaded. I had a problem with some mp3s i couldn't copy from the zen to the hd, and those files also played wrong (had gaps in it with "bits" of other mp3s..) and took longer times to move one song on or back. Then i had a format from recovery mode but **bleep**, the problem remains the same just with different mp3s (i didn't load exactly the same ones in order to see..). Got any clues about what to try?
    Thanks anyway fo reading

I tried to install new firmware for my Zen Touch. My computer froze during the process of installing the firmware and now it's in recovery mode. It isn't recognized in both Creative Mediasource and the firmware update program. My computer recognizes it as a device, but I can't do anything with it. I figured that maybe Windows Media player was causing the problem, so I rolled back to version 0, still no luck.Message Edited by Raul78 on -5-200605:8 PM

  • Zen Micro File Copy & Playli

    New user:
    I have a Zen Micro firmware .02.05
I am finding the MediaSource very clumsy. It takes too long to update the MP3 tags and changes must be made one field at a time.
Is there an easier way to edit the tags once they have been imported?
Is there a way to create and or edit playlists outside of MediaSource?
Can drag and drop from Windows Explorer to the Micro be enabled?
I tried installing the updated drivers, my PC refused to connect to the device. I had to uninstall/install the entire package. Needless to say I am hesitant to install the firmware update.
    Any advice/help appreciated.
    Ed

You can right click Properties to edit the tag in MediaSource.

  • Zen Micro file transfer issue - h

I just purchase a Zen Micor and installed everything, charged it, downloaded 0 songs and it worked great. So I tried to download some more, and they all ~80, "failed" to transfer. So I installed the new firmware thinking that may be the problem, but still unable to download anymore music. I did a clean disk and reboot, still nothing.
Does anyone have any ideas on what may be wrong, or what to do to correct this. I'd really hate to have to take this back, but not sure what to do at this point. I've never had this problem with my ipod or iri'ver before?
    Thanks,

  • Problems with zen micro

Since getting my zen micro and transferring music via media player, some albums have been sorting tracks into alphabetical order. I made sure before copying that all tracks were in the right order and were being sorted by track.
The Greenday album 'American Idiot' seems to go into alphabetical order very quickly. A few other albums have gone into alphabetical order a few days later. When i check the track details it always says 'Track #0'. Most albums are ok though. Should i try the creative software instead? I have the .02.05 (i think thats what its called) firmware. The battery also seems to be running out kinda quick. Less than 5 hours of whatever its meant to last for...

This doesn't exactly qualify as a problem with the Micro. It's more of bad ID3 tag info in the files from the sounds of things. As for t he MPEG Layer 3 Audio thing. That is just what an MP3 is. What was being referenced is the TAG info for the track. Open the file in Media Source and then use the EDIT TAG option or whatever it is labeled. ( I don't have it in front of me) You should see information for things like Artist, Album, and TRACK. IF the track item is empty or has a 0 in it then that is waht you will end up with for track info. You would need to edit each track for proper info at this point.

  • Media Source - 'file of this name already exists' transfering tracks from Zen Micro to

I've come home for the weekend, and I'm trying to transfer a few albums from my Zen Micro to my Mum's PC for her. Normally this works fine, but for some reason today I keep getting the message 'A file of this name already exists' for about 80% of the tracks I try to transfer. One or two tracks from each album will work and the rest will fail.
These are new tracks and they definitely aren't already in her music library - I've double checked the C dri've too.
I'm given the option to overwrite the exisiting tracks, so I gave that a try with one album, but the tracks still aren't didn't show on there once I'd transfered, despite the track number not going up, so god knows what's been overwritten with those!
    Can anyone help?
    Cheers!

Your firmware is not the PlaysForSure version.
Anyway, I just want to make sure that you have set up the directory and file naming convention correctly for MediaSource. Here is what you should do:
    - Launch Creative MediaSource Oragnizer.
    - Go to Tools->Settings->PC Music Library and click Properties. Set your preferred folder and file naming convention. Close the setting page.
    - In the Sources window, click to view PC Music Library.
    - Go to View->Right Panel View and select to view your MP3 player.
    - Transfer the tracks from your MP3 player to MediaSource's PC Music Library by clicking the arrow pointing from right to left.
    - If you have updated the track information of the tracks in your MP3 player, the updated track information will also be imported into the PC Music Library database. However, the tags of the files are not updated. Here is what you need to do. Right click the PC Music Library node in the Sources window or right click on any tracks in the PC Music Library window and select "Update Tag". This will update the tag of all the tracks or the selected tracks with the track information as seen in the PC Music Library.

  • I can´t organize files on my Zen Micro using MP10 (and can I get rid of the firmwar

Hi, I installed the software that came with the Zen, the first one hung up my computer (forgot what it was called) but media explorer seemed to work ok. I was recommended to install the firmare so that I could transfer files using MP0. I did this (one of the earlier versions). I drag and drop my music folders into MP0 and sincronize but when they are transfered I get new folder created with new names onto my Zen (album names, song names etc.) everything disordered and many folders with only one song in them. I can't seem to figure out how to organize my music. Is there a way of reformatting the player, get rid of the firmware and make it work properly with media explorer again (since media explorer doesn?t recognise the player after the firmware instalation) Please help, the sound quality of this player is great but music transfers and organizing is giving me a big headache.

    Ear-Rock,
You can download the version of Zen Micro Media Explorer that support the MTP firmware you have now on the player. The version is 4.00.8 and is available on the website. You can also change the firmware to the PDE one by downloading and installing the PDE firmware version .02.05.

  • Hidden Hard Drive Files With Zen Micro 5

Just started loading my Zen Micro with music files this week. I ensured that I only copied files to the player itself, but it seems like my hard dri've's available space is getting smaller and smaller. I used the Zen Micro Media Explorer to rip directly from my CD's to the player. Anyone have any suggestions?
Also have the latest firmware and software.

Actually, I have loaded about 2.5 GB of music. I've LOST about GB on my local hard dri've. Again, I made sure I only ripped to the Zen micro player, NOT the hard dri've itself. It sure seems that GB (while opting not to download to the machine) is excessi've. OS: Windows XPCreative Zen Micro, FW release .2.5, DR release .27.2HW: Dell Latitude
If I were you, I would format the player and then retransfer those files again. Of cos make sure that you are really transferring 2.5gb of files.

  • Transferring VBR mp3s to new Zen Micro: H

Hi, I just got a new Zen Micro.
I've read that people often have trouble transferring mp3s encoded at variable bit rate (VBR) to the Micro with Creative's software. Almost ALL the songs on my computer are VBR mp3s.
Can I skip installing Creative's software and just transfer my VBR mp3s to the Micro with Windows Explorer? Or what is the best way?
    Thanks in advance.
(brand-new black Zen Micro. battery now charging for the first time OMG!!!)
    (Windows XP Home)

Update: I did install Creative's software from the included disk -- my computer didn't recognize the Micro without it. Then I just dragged and dropped mp3s to the Micro's Music Library with Windows Explorer -- worked perfectly! No trouble at all with VBR files (except one or two with messed-up tags), and they sound great on the Micro.
P.S. I have Windows Media Player (no idea what version; it came preinstalled on my computer in late 2003) but I never run it -- I use Winamp instead -- and didn't need to for this purpose. I also didn't need to download any firmware updates or anything. Sweet!

  • Question regarding transfering tracks from current Zen Micro to new Zen V Pl

Thank You in advance to anyone who can assist me.
I just ordered a new Zen V Plus and will want to get all my tracks on it when it arri'ves. My current player is a Zen Micro 5GB and I've loved it but as of late have been having problems with one of the touch pad buttons and, of course, it's out of warrenty. I just found the Zen V Plus 4GB on sale for $59.99 which I feel is a great price point so I bought one. So regarding the issue of getting my music from the Micro to the V Plus, is there a way to transfer from one to the other or would I have to somehow transfer onto my PC then to the V Plus?
Second question I just thought of, Can I use a memory stick(USB Flash Dri've) to back-up my tracks?
    Thanks again,
    Mark in San Diego

    Hi,
You could transfer the music content of your Zen Micro to your Zen V Plus without transferring it to the PC first. Do the following steps:
. Connect one player at a time in your PC (XP O/S) and make sure that both of the player is detected.
    2. If Windows have detected it, click on the option Open to View Files.
    3. Open up the Music folder of both players.
    4. From there, copy and paste whatever music tracks you would like to transfer from Zen Micro to Zen V Plus.
It's a good idea to have a back up of all your data and you could use a USB Flash dri've to store it all.
    Hope this hel
    ps.

  • Zen Micro won't transfer files, Creative are not helping

I have had my Zen Micro since early January (bought from Amazon.co.uk) and it has been fine until a couple of weeks ago. One day I plugged it into the computer to put some more music on there and it came up with the dreaded message "Player is not connected". Since then, every time I try to transfer files across, it will come up with this same message. Once I managed to get one song across, then got the message, but now it won't let me transfer at all.
I have contacted Creative Support, and explained what happens. I have tried everything they suggest (different USB cable, uninstall/re-install software, download new 4.00.8 driver, disable anti-virus software, different PC, disk clean-up, etc.) yet it still does not want to work! I keep replying to Support telling them this, but the person at the other end is really not helping the situation at all. So far he has told me to do all of the above THREE times, even after I've told him very clearly that they don't make a difference. I'm now convinced I will never get this player sorted out.
Why won't they issue me with an RMA? Surely we've run out of options by now? I am getting extremely fed up with the whole thing, and right now I don't even feel like replying again because I know I won't get any help
P.S. All this has been tried on both WinME and XP.

Claire does this mean you have tried it on different machines?
Qoute "P.S. All this has been tried on both WinME and XP"
If so than it may be a hardware problem.
Get some ad-aware programs as something maybe restricting you use of the USB ports. AdawareSE is very good.
Right click on my computer on the desk top, goto properties and click the Hardware tab
    <IMG src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/johnnyjudge/Slide.jpg">
    Click on Device Manager,
Scroll down and click on Uni'veral Serial Bus Controllers, of course with your Micro plugged in look for it. Right click the on the device and goto properties, and see does it denote the devcie is wotrking properly and are there any drivers assigned to it. If so what them drivers are.

  • Transfering playlists from WMP10 to Zen Micro w/ ver 2.1X firmw

    Hi Everyone-
I just got my Zen Micro yesterday and have been very happy with it. I have several questions about it, but my first one is:
I upgraded my firmware to the 2.0x beta because I've been thinking about getting Napster to Go. Now I can no longer use the creative MediaSource software (why not BTW?). I can select the files contained in the WMP0 playlist to sync with the Zen Micro, but the list itself (order, etc.) is not transfered.
Does anyone have instructions on how to do this?
    Thanks!
    Tim

Monkeyclaw: MediaSource won't work with any of the v2 firmware.
There's a post here about how to sync playlists, so give this a try.
