Zen Micro freezes on creative lo

My creative zen micro freezes on start up at the creative logo. I see this is a popular problem, and yes I hear clicking of the hard dri've. I've only had it two weeks and this isn't cool. I would recommend a Rio. In the creative warranty it says does not cover any "Damage from external causes such as floods, storms, fires, sand, dirt, earthquakes, an Act of God, exposure to sunlight.." Geez, I sure hope they don't consider this an act of god. Now, I must wait the 2+ weeks for my replacement. Not a happy customer.
Btw, has anyone fixed this problem? It doesnt seem so.

Yea, I've read the FAQ and troubleshooting. I can get into rescue mode but when I select any option it then freezes along with more clicking. I've spent the last two hours reading about this, I'm quite certain it's hard dri've failure/sticking. My last mp3 player got stolen and I had to wait a week to receive my zen micro in the mail. Now I have to wait another few weeks to have it fixed. I need it at work, so my life sucks without my mp3 player. This is very not cool. Thanks for your reply, btw. Unfortanetly, I don't think there is anything I can do.

  • Help! Zen Micro freezed on "Creative" scr

    Hi all,
my Zen Micro has gone crazy... all of a sudden it switched itself on, and it just stays on the "CREATIVE" screen and doesnt do anything.
I cant even update the firmware because it wont connect through the USB.
Also i tried Disk Cleanup and Formatting and everything. but nothing works
It just freezes at those screens.
    Some one please help

if your micro ever freezes, I would just get an RMA to return it to Creative to get a replacement. I did that, and within a week, they mailed me a brand new zen micro which works perfectly fine (ie. no freezing, no errors, no battery loss issues, etc...)...

I am having the same problem, we have tried absolutely everthing and nothing has worked. We have given up now and are going to buy a new one. My Microphoto lasted 4 months -I tried to say under the sale of goods act that there you would expect an MP3 player to last longer than that but these big companies don't give a stuff. Sorry not to have been more positi've. If anyone out there dose have any ideas please help us!

  • Zen Micro freezes at "Creative" Scr

Just what the subject says. I tried to start it up and it goes past the Copyright screen but stays at "CREATIVE". What do I do to fix it (If I can)?

My Zen Micro is also suffering from the same problem. It turns on and freezes on the creative logo. I tried using the Rescue mode but nothing happens. Reboot will just end up on the same frozen screen. Scan disk, format disk and reload firmware just display a popup saying that the task has started but it stays frozen there. Using the USB cable the computer does not recognize the ZEN. It does recognize that a media player was connected to the usb port but freezes any program that tries to communicate with it.
There is no harddri've noise at all coming from the player.

  • Zen Micro freezes on Creative L

<SPAN class=postbody>just tried to turn on my micro, creative logo comes up and freezes, nothing happened. followed instructions on how to perform clean up, the clean up screen also freezes once i clicked yes to cleanup. any way to fix this. im frustrated, dont wanna format and lose all my 600 mp3s and tags <IMG alt=Sad src="http://www.nomadness.net/modules/Forums/images/smiles/icon_sad.gif" border=0> please help
    <SPAN class=postbody>
    <SPAN class=postbody>
<SPAN class=postbody>the player doesnt make any click sounds, as soon it starts cleanup, it freezes or at least seems like it. i been waiting for 20 min and it stays the same.

What it comes down to is, there is not much us consumers can do. My dri've has the same problem as the two of yours. We cannot detect the dri've via USB, so that cancels out any firmware update or any recovery software that might be availavle to us. Atleast I think so.
As for what can be done with the unit itself, nothing much. When loaded normally, it freezes at the second screen with the creative logo.
In recovery mode, the unit is not frozen unless you make one of the four selection, all of which lead to a frozen state.
This is how my player crashed. I just finished charging it fully, and decided to change the songs on the zen micro. I connected it to my usb port while it was on. The plug and play screen appeared as I ran the Media Source Organizer program. The PnP screen with the partitioned blocks would not go away. So I was forced to remove the battery, and from that point I've had the stalling problems.
One thing to note is that when i connect the player to the AC adapter, the hard dri've makes clicking noises. This lead me to believe that any function relating to the hard dri've will fail. example: connecting to the PC, formatting, clean up.
Only the basic recovery BIOS which doesn't use the hard dri've is attainable.
I hope Creative will "REVEAL" to us a solution for this. I already paid shipping once for the unit. I hope I don't have to pay to return and then ship it again.

  • Zen Micro Freezes when I plug in USB cable+USB not recognized at ti

Ok, I know you, the reader, has heard this complaint posted over and over on the Creative forums, and you would probably tell me to SEARCH THE FORUMS. Well, I did, and I found no answer or solution to my problems. So..here goes nothing.
I recently purchased a Black 5gb Creative Zen Micro, I was really content and happy with it...that is until I plugged it into my USB 2.0 Card. The moment I do that (I've tried plugging it in into every USB 2.0 slot, and NO, this isn't a hub, but a PCI card), The Zen Micro freezes! I have to resolve this by removing the cover and taking out the battery, then reinserting the battery. At the same time my Zen Micro freezes, a little bubble pops up on my computer screen saying "USB Device Not Recognized". I'm going absolutely out of my mind here, and am on the verge of returning the Zen Micro, and might get a replacement, and if that doesn't work, just returning the Zen altogether for a refund and getting a Rio Carbon. I really like the Zen, so PLEASE PLEASE help me out here!
Things I've Tried That Did Not Work:
-Uninstall/Reinstalling Zen Explorer, Mediasource (basically everything on CD)
-Updating the drivers for Zen Micro found on Nomadness.net
    -Updating Firmware for Zen Micro
-Going into rescue mode and cleaning up, Formatting, reloading firmware, and rebooting.
-Trying the USB 2.0 Card in different PCI Slots
-Rotating the order in which I connect the USB cable to Zen Micro and PC
-Uninstalling/Reinstalling the drivers, even when the Zen Micro pops up as "Unknown Device"
    -Reading tips/hints on Nomadness.net
I have scoured the forums, and have not found anything useful or new. I know its not the USB 2.0 Card's problem, since I plugged in my USB mouse into all the ports on the USB Card, and it worked fine.
Note: When I plug the USB cable that came with the Zen Micro into the integrated USB slots on the motherboard (USB .), it at times, does work, but even then, not a high chance of it happening. Even if I do successfully connect the Zen to a USB . slot without it freezing up, the Zen ends up not being detected by any program, like Window Media Player, Mediasource, or Creative Zen Micro Explorer.
I am going out this weekend and am gonna try to buy a new USB Cable, and if that doesn't work, returning the cable, and returning the Zen Micro to be replaced. AND IF THAT DOES NOT WORK...GOODBYE CREATIVE! HELLO RIO! But please, any help you guys could give would be greatly appreciated. I will also try to contact Creative Customer Support, but I doubt they'll tell me anything new, if I could even connect to them without being put on hold.
    System Specs:
    Windows XP Professional SP2
    Creative Zen Micro Firmware .02.05
    USB 2.0

Yep, that's exactly my issues to.....no matter what I've done, including replacing the USB 2.0 card which WAS and Adaptec DuoConnect 2.0 card which works fine with every other USB device ever connected to it, the Zen Micro 6g is NOT recognized by Creative Media Source or WMP. It is only recognized by the PC in Device Manager, and it has a yellow marker on it, which tells me the drivers are not installed. I know I don't need the drivers installed, but even after installing them, it tells me the drivers are not installed.
However, the answer is: it's definitely not the Micro, since it works flawlessly on my other PC and on my Toshiba notebook. So, it's some compatibility issue on that one PC. Since I refuse to let things be, I am reformatting that PC, reinstalling from scratch with WinXP and sp2. This PC has WinXP Pro but it has other issues so a reformat is in order anyway. Hopefully, this will resolve the issues. If not, then I say it's incompatibility with the Intel 865Perl m.b. But I'm at a loss as to why it won't work when plugged into the Adaptec card too.

  • Zen Micro freezes when boot or in recovery m

In brief, my Zen Micro freezes at booting up or in recovery mode.
It stops at the "Creative" logo. I've tried to do everything in the "Recovery Mode" but none ofthem seems to run. Tried "Disk Cleanup" but it stucks at "Scanning Disk..." and stays on and does nothing. I know it is supposed to show you the status in percentage, but it doesn't get to that point. Tried "Formatting" but it displays "Formatting..." and stucks and does nothing. It is able to"Reboot" but upon rebooting, it freezes at the "Creative" logo screen again.
During the time it's turned on, the computer would not recognize the player as "connected", I couldn't do firmware flash/upgrade. The computer also won't recognize as a removable storage. The Zen Microis in perfect condition, I haven't dropped it once, bought it for less than 2 weeks. Current version of firmware is .0.03 (as i recall). model # DAP-MD0004
Any comment is greatly appreciated!! Thanks =)
    ps.
and yes, my battery drains when the player is off (and not in standby mode), with or without headphone plugged in.

    <SPAN>Hi kaic,
<SPAN><SPAN>My Zen Microphoto has exactly the same problem you described. What I like to know is if you got it replaced or if somehow you could fix it yourself. And if Creative replaced it, which they said the problem was?

  • Creative Zen Micro - Freezes/Clicks - Hard Drive Malfuncti

I know that many of you are having similar problems with your Zen Micros...here's the deal with mine (it is a 6gb, probably doesn't matter).
I bought it a year ago, used it for two months, then it sat in its box in a drawer for probably four months. When I went to use it again, battery was completely de-charged (or so I assumed, because it was not turning on). So I plugged it in, it began to charge, but would not turn on to play and was not recognized by the computer, even after several hours of charging. Additionally, when I held it up to my ear, I could hear a repeated clicking noise, like something was stuck inside. I took it back to Circuit City... obviously, it was too late to return it. They had a technician look at it for an hour, but he said it looked like it was fried.
I continued charging the Zen for probably 2 days straight after that, and finally, it turned on and played like normal. I thought the problem had been that the battery was just far too de-charged and it just needed that extra 24-hours of being plugged in. So it continued working for a few months.
Then I put it away for a month. Again, it sat in its box. I took it out a few days ago...same old problem.
    - when I plug it into the computer, sometimes it turns on and charges with the battery symbol in the upper corner, and sometimes it just goes to the Creative main screen (as if it's going to turn on and play) but just freezes.
    - when it is not correctly charging (just frozen on the main screen), it always continues with the clicking noise.
I read responses on this forum that said to try banging it against the table. I did this and the clicking noise did stop, but it still stays frozen on the main screen.
I am a struggling, broke college student who foolishly spent $200 on this mp3 player...and in the past year, I have only been able to use it for about 5 months. So many people have the same problem with the Zen Micro that it makes me curious as to why Creative seems to not be doing anything to help. They say to send it in and get a new hard dri've - but that will cost $200...and at this point, I would only have to spend about half of that to buy a new Zen Micro altogether! Most of my family and friends use IPods and I have never witnessed such problems.
    Anyone have any suggestions?

Yea, I've read the FAQ and troubleshooting. I can get into rescue mode but when I select any option it then freezes along with more clicking. I've spent the last two hours reading about this, I'm quite certain it's hard dri've failure/sticking. My last mp3 player got stolen and I had to wait a week to receive my zen micro in the mail. • Creative Zen Micro - Freezes when 'Rebuilding Library', does this spontaneous

I'll make this post short and sweet.
Yes, I have read the FAQ.
I'm just wondering, its happened to me twice now that when i turn on my zen micro, it goes straight to the rebuilding library screen, and when the bar gets to the end it just freezes. Replacing the battery does not help. Only until i attach it to my computer at home does the library finish rebuilding. And no, on both occasions the battery was not dead. I just found out now about recovery mode and disk cleanup.
Now, considering this disk cleanup fixes the problem next time it arrises, why is this problem happening in the first place? How can I avoid it from happening?
I'll probably be returning this product if I'm forced to replace the battery etc each time i want to use it.
    Sorry for my broken english

I have had a very similar problem with my 5GB Zen Micro. I have not added music to the player in weeks but during a cold boot a couple of times a week the player will not start clean, many times hanging at the end of a library rebuild.
The player is always shutdown orderly, though most of the time it's via the 4 hour firmware shutdown included in the ..0 firmware. Each time it hangs I boot to rescue mode, run a clean-up, then reboot. During the reboot it always runs a successful rebuild, so I wonder, why didn't it do that last time and why does it keep acting up when nothing has been added or deleted to the player?
One additional note, sometimes during the boot it will hang with the ZEN screen only partially displayed.
I just deleted the firmware and reloaded ..0. Hopefully this fixes it, but stay tuned for updates...
    Thanks,Doug

  • Creative Zen Micro freezes at startup with Creative logo on screen

Sorry for the long topic name, but it anoys me when people just say help, or pls help me! for topic names (Because I have no idea what they want). I tried the firmware update, and cleanup, but even though I only have about 527MB on it, (Just got it yesterday) it takes until the battery runs out to do any of the tasks in that mode, except reboot. Also, when I try plugging it into my comp, the comp acts as if nothing is plugged in. I check my computer, and it isnt even there! Please help, cause I just got it, and because I really dont want to return this thing. (The only thing stopping me from going ipod)

Did you try a disk cleanup? To access the Rescue Mode on the Zen Micro, remove the battery, hold the power switch to the "on" position, reinsert the battery. Choose Disk Cleanup from the menu. Note: Disk cleanup should not remove your tracks. It searches through the disk for files and rebuilds the index, and can be useful for correcting any strange behaviour.

  • Zen micro freezes: share your experie

Please share your experience with Zen Micro's hard disk problems with me.
Unfortunately the beatiful zen micro i bought almost two years ago, is in a state of coma. It froze up and no option on the recovery mode could change that state.
I know that a lot of you guys had/have the same problem, given the amount of help-threads.
I sent the player to the shop since we have a two-years-warranty in Germany. The shop kept the player and refuses to exchange/repair my player.
So I am about to contact a lawyer to sue the shop.
Any evidence to support my case ? your experience with the freezing micro ? will back up my case.
    Thanks in advance!

Issue appears to be resolved. The following is the instruction set sent by Creative Labs that I followed:
. Ensure that the player is turned off.
    2. Remove the battery.
    3. Move and hold the Power button to the Power On position and re-insert
the battery to the Zen Micro. Hold the Power button until the rescue
    mode appears.
    4. After 2-3 seconds the rescue menu will be displayed.
At this point the battery can safely be replaced and maintenance options
    performed.
    5. Four options will be displayed on the LCD screen:
? Clean Up - (To rearrange your stored data)
? Format All - (To format and remove all data)
? Reload Firmware - (Reloads your player's operating system - Do not
choose this option unless you have downloaded a firmware update from the
    Creative website)
? Reboot - (Restarts your Player)
    6. Select the Clean Up and then the Reboot option.
Now, please try turning off the player.

  • Zen Micro freezed when syncing, now freezes when trying to reload or upgrade firmw

Got a Zen Micro, firmware 2..02
I started having problems syncing with my home PC, which uses XP SP2 with Windows Media Player . Trying to sync resulted in a freezed WMP an, after a while returned an error saying it couldn't communicate with Zen Micro or just showed that all the files to be transfer had been stopped.
Tried to sync in my office, XP SP2 with with Windows Media Player 0. It worked a bit better: could transfer files, but the speed of the transfers was unusually slow for USB 2.0. It ended with the WMP freezed and, after a while, all the files I use for testing where in the player.
In both computers, when the WMP freezed, the signal in the player remained with the lines in black, as if it was still communicating. I had to disconnected the player, disregarding the signal, which remained even with the player disconnected from the PC. When powered up the startup process ended in the "Creative" screen staying on forever, I had to remove the battery, go to recovery mode, Reboot the player and, after a library rebuilding it worked.
Read some threads and thoght that reloading the firmware would help. But the sign "erasing firmware" doesn't dissapear in my player's screen. I gave up after 2 hours. At that point, my player starting showing a "firmware error" at startup and going to the recovery screen every time it is powered up.
Tried to upgrade firmware. It gave a "player not connected" error using my home PC (WMP ) but not in my office (WMP 0). I try to "re-upgrade" to 2..02 but it returned a "failed to upgrade firmware" error (after a few minutes with the window freezed) and the player remained in "communicating" status (black lines in the screen's icon). Try then to "downgrade" to last .xx firmware version available, but the operation hangs after the "format completed successfully" message, with only two bars in the progress indicator, and it stays like this for a very long time (tried for 30 minutes), still with the communication black-lines-in-icon status.
If I try to re-run the firmware upgrade inmediately, it says "your player is not connected, please reconnect your player", as it is still in "communicating" status. I have to take battery out and reinsert it to be able to restart the firmware proess.
Any suggestions? I'm really restricted to not to send the player to Creative Customer Service, as it has just finished it warranty period and I'm nowadays in Argentina, from where the post cost would be huge.

  • Zen micro-stuck at creative sym

when i turn on my zen micro it doesnt work it just freezes at the creative sign (the after creative copy right) what can i do to fix it

    Jamez3,
First off I would try going into rescue mode and attempting a clean up. If that doesn't work then try a format. The instructions for this can be found in the FAQ at the top of this forum. If that doesn't work, contact support and they will help you out (as this may be a problem that will require a repair of the player).

  • Zen micro-stuck at creative s

this is my second zen micro i have just got this new one today as i sent my old one off with the same problem which they could not fix so they gave me a new one as i was within warrenty i turn on my new zen micro and it just freezes at the creative sign wtf can i do i've tried formatting i've tried clean up i've tried rebot and nothing works please help

    Yeah, get a new one.
Just FYI, if it was making kind of a boing, boing or whir/click noise when you turned it on, this is a sign the dri've read/write head has gotten hung over the edge of the dri've platter. It seems to happen occasionally with the rather delicate little dri'ves in these players. Under warranty, Creative will replace the unit. Out of warranty, there is a trick that will often fix this that involves turning the player off (remove the battery) and wacking the player face down in the palm of youe hand lightly but sharply> this will often unstick the head. It has worked for me and probably many others. Not an offical way to fix this, but OK if you have no replacement option and have nothing to lose.

  • Zen micro - freezes up complete

alright well. a while ago, i was syching my music to my zen micro but it was freezing up the media player and it would stop when it was halfway done, so i just unplugged it from my computer and turned it off. now, when i try to turn my zen on, it goes to the "rebuilding library" screen, then to a song, where it freezes. sto
    ps.
nooothingggg happens. i try to press a button, it doesn't do anything. it plays no music. i try to turn it off, it doesn't. i have to actually take the battery right out of the back just for it to turn off. when i plug it back into my computer, it turns itself on like it should, but then it rebuilds the library, goes to a song, and freeezes, and the computer says it's not connected.
    dear god, please help me.

Mine just did the same this weekend .. But there is Good news !!! ..
If you go into recovery mode and select Clean up all is good
I first cleaned up then re-started , the zen does another library re-build .. then all seems to work after that ..
    See below :
How do I enter Recovery Mode on my Zen Micro?
    To go into Recovery Mode
Take out the battery, press and hold the ON/LOCK button in the ON position and put back the battery back.
Wait until Recovery Mode appears on the display
    You have the following options
Clean Up - (To rearrange your stored data)
Format All - (To format and remove all data)
Reload Firmware - (Reloads your player's operating system - Do not choose this option unless you have downloaded a firmware update from the Creative website)
    Reboot - (Restarts your Player)
