Have you try running Cleanup in Rescue mode and see if it helps in anyway.

  • ZEN Micro hard drive crashes my i

I have a 5GB ZEN Micro. Works perfectly on my PC.
When I try to hookup the ZEN as a removable hard dri've to my (iMac OS 9.x), I can see or play files. But if I attempt to copy the files to my Mac - or to copy files from Mac to ZEN - it crashes my Mac OS.
Has anyone discovered a way to make the Mac more compatible with the ZEN hard dri've?

There is software which you can get for a Mac, but it only runs on OS X 0.3
Its called XNJB and the link: <a href='http://www.wentnet.com/projects/xnjb/index.html' target=_blank>http://www.wentnet.com/projects/xnjb/index.html[/url]
Check them out and give support and hopefully they might release a Mac version for OS X 9 and moreMessage Edited by DM on 05-9-2005 :2 AM

  • Zen Micro Hard Drive Fail

It seems to me that there is a rash of hard dri've failures in the Zen Micro Series. The one main symptom of this is freezing at the CREATIVE startup screen, and disk check and format do nothing. Most of these players seem to have been gifts for Christmas or (insert your holiday here). I just wanted to make this thread so that maybe people could post their details of what happened (i.e. place of purchase, color, etc) so maybe we could figure out a pattern to all this.
    Thanks!

    color: white
got it on christmas could not use it till today
Have been trying to use it for 3 hours still have not gotten it to work.
Reloaded the firmware four times (the updated firmware)
Finally got it to load some songs, then I couldn't get my PC to recognize it anymore. I have three PC's all P4's, quality motherboards, and my work PC none of which are registering the device. It picks it up for a second then freezes and the PC drops the connection the zen micro freezes up and crashes forcing me to take battery out. I researched this for months and although I rarely buy things when they first come out I did it anyway. Now I'm kicking myself, 244 bucks down the tube. I was on hold for hour 0 mins for customer service today when I had to go back to work and of course they aren't open on the weekends or at night. I'm not happy.

  • Creative Zen Micro Hard Drive Er

Hi, my Creative Zen Micro has an hard dri've error. I tried Recovery Mode on it but once it turns on, it doesn't display Recovery Mode but Hardri've error. I was wondering if anyone could help. I was playing a song in wma format and I have the latest firmwire, v..0. As it was playing, it froze on me, I took the battery off to shut it, and when I inserted the battery back in, it came up with the hard dri've error message. Can anyone help me?

Hard disk error is a serious one unfortunately, and as I'm sure you guessed it means the hard disk has failed in some way.
You can try the advice here in the Zen FAQ at Nomadness.net at your OWN RISK.
If you aren't under warranty you can contact Creative Support to see if they will repair it. If you want to try repairing it yourself, taking the risk the hard disk is at fault, then you can follow Rudi Cheow's excellent guide. There's also a thread here at the Zen Nomadness.net forum on compatible dri'ves, and the last page of Rudi's guide also has information on this.

  • Successful Zen Xtra Hard Drive Upgra

    Hello Zen Community--
I just wanted to report a success with upgrading the hard drive on my Zen Xtra from 40GB to 00GB.
I was running out of space and originally gave some thought to purchasing a used Zen Xtra 60GB unit as a replacement, but in doing research found out that many people had upgraded their own Xtras with larger-capacity hard dri'ves.
The original dri've that came with my unit was a Fujitsu MHT2040AT and I replaced it with a brand new Fujitsu MHU200AT 00GB hard dri've I got on eBay pretty cheap ($55 including shipping). I might even be able to sell the old 40GB hard dri've on Craigslist to recoup ten or fifteen bucks.
The instructions I used were at the following sites:
    http://www.aoaforums.com/forum/gener...tras-hard.html
    http://home.mchsi.com/~sallad/zen/tutorial.html
Of course, you do this at your own risk, I make no warranties, you void the warranty on your Zen, etc., etc., etc. You might want to google it yourself.
But I wanted to pass along that I was able to do it successfully--with no problems whatsoever--and I'm very happy with the results. It was quite easy. I encourage anyone who needs more room on their Zen Xtra to give it some thought. (If you don't want to do it yourself, there are people on eBay who will sell you already-upgraded units or will do the upgrade for you.)
As I currently have no need for video, this extends the life of my Xtra quite a bit.
Best of luck to anyone who decides to gives it a shot.Message Edited by Lawrence on 03-29-2008 0:29 PM

Actually, I see your problem is resolved in the other thread, so I'll close this one.

  • Creative Zen micro (no driver installation?) and cost of 5gb mod

Just wondering is it ppossible to copy music without having to install drivers? cause i want to use it at uni after i record lectures i want to access the lectures on my uni pc.
but currently it goes to install a driver and my uni pc's dont allow that
also is it true that with a recen firmware you can increase the size of the removable hard disk partition?
Finally if anyone is from australia would you know where the cheapest place to buy the zen micro is?
i see somepeople posting that they can get it for EUR$39 = AUD$25 which is a lot cheaper than AUD$329-$369 for the 5gb model that i have seen at dicksmith.

infinityx wrote:Just wondering is it ppossible to copy music without having to install drivers? cause i want to use it at uni after i record lectures i want to access the lectures on my uni pc.
The Zen Micro v2 firmware supports MTP. If the PCs have Win XP and WMP0 then they use a generic driver built-in to Windows.
Alternati'vely if you just want to transfer data use the USB mass storage mode.

  • I think my hard drive might be getting ready to crash again.

I'm starting to see some awfully weird stuff right now... after hard reboots due to X lockups (Sauerbraten fucking up), I seem to be losing data from config files that weren't being written to or used at the time of the reboot - .viminfo, for example, and the XML config stuff for Galeon. I also lost everything in my .xinitrc file after a normal, clean reboot. No SMART errors but I am getting rather suspicious. And no rootkits or trojans, AFAICT.
(Had this drive for only 2 years though, it shouldn't be failing now. Then again, it might have crashed before.)

    - Electrostatic discharges: drive was pulled from a lightning-fried machine, apparently undamaged (I figured that it would be either okay or dead, given the surge's magnitude), but I'm starting to wonder if something got a little scrambled. If so, though. it took a while to show uo.
ESD damage is cumulative. in silicon terms you can weaken the transistors (silicon junctions) over a period of time just with low voltage discharges. It isnt necessarily so that these will fail totally and immediately. this is like a weld being ok but the metal around it rotting away over time.
re the CPU etc. a year or so back miqorz had similar probs with random crashes, especially with any medium to high CPU process. turned out he changed something on the CPU, cooler , fan or whatever, and the silicon heat transfer paste wasnt applied uniformly. this led to hotspots obviously and a breakdown of process wrt temperature.
back to basics, if you run a HD test (manufacturers testdisk ) itl remove that from the equation. then u can focus on other probables.
recently had trouble accessing a Maxtor 200G. worked ok when i made an image of it, (i work in data recovery/forensics) , but when trying to wipe it as the owner requested, it failed with I/O problems.
Maxtor hard drive test showed drive was failing.
so ... it worked ok to get an image, but screwed up when trying to write to it. Warranty job.
if you want to scrap the drive should it prove faulty, i can point you to some oss utils and procedures should you need to recover data. these have worked on drives that the M/F test confirmed drive failure. if you need to take it out of forum, dont be afraid to priv msg. im happy to make time to help.
    good luck

  • Zen Micro Hard Dr

    5GB Zen Micro
    Hello
My player freezes on the creative screen. Ive tried formatting and everything else, after it reboots still the same, so I believe my hard dri've has failed. My warranty is out so I was needing to know if anybody knows how much it is to send off and get the hard dri've replaced, or can I can order one from creative or seagate? The HD is a Seagate ST Micro Dri've. Just wanted to know if its best just to buy a new player?
    Thanks
    Jason

ok you're probably right the hard dri've has failed
so you're left with 2 options to bring back the zen to life
: buy the hard dri've and install it your self this way it will cost less cause you dont need any service on it
2: buy a compact flash memory card it will be less then the usual 5gb (you could get or 2 gb)
but here's the trick with the memory card the micro will handle more abuse and heavy usage cause
there's no hard dri've (no moving parts) and you'll notice that the micro is a bit faster
so if u want the space and baby sit the micro and take care of it get the hard dri've
and if u want to running gym whatever get the memory card compact flash
about installing your self check this out
    http://www.hardwarezone.com/articles...id=9&id=33&pg=
either way its better to bring the micro back then throw it away

  • Zen Micro Vista Driv

Hi,?Sorry if I have missed this information elsewhere... I have had my Zen Micro for about two years, with no problems. Now that I have a new PC with Vista on it, it won't detect my Zen and won't allow me to install MediaSource. I have looked round this sight for new Zen Micro drivers but can't find any. Can anybody point me in the right direction?

Thanks for the tip! It helped me with my old Zen Micro on Windows Vista. The device was?recognized?but Windows still couldn't find the driver?despite being?installed from Creative support site. Also the battery seemed not to?charge for some reason. Once I upgraded?device firmware to 2.2?using machine with Windows XP, it'swas immediately recognized, synched and charged on Vista as well. Thanks again.

  • A flashdisk player or an micro hard drive play

i am thinking to buy a player but i am not sure what to buy.actually i want a zen micro but i cannot trust in the hard dri've in it.could it be effected when i walk with it in may bag or pocket?buying an flashdisk player like gb muvo seems to be reliable.could you inform me pls

Walking with hard disk players is okay. Running with hard disk players is not, according to most. Treat it like the small computer it is, and you should probably be fine. I baby my Xtra. My iRi'ver flash players have been dropped repeatedly onto cement floors, jostled around at the bottom of my bookbag, and still work flawlessly, so there's something to be said for a player with no moving parts. I guess it comes down to how clumsy you anticipate being with it, and how much music you need on hand.

  • Micro hard drive replaceme

How do i check if my hard dri've on my creative zen micro is broken?
I dropped my creative zen micro and now it will turn on but it just shows the creative zen screen then goes blank. When i go to recovery mode and try formatting it says its formatting but just stays there until the battery dies. I've searched for info on the internet and everyone says the hard dri've is dead. Is there any way i can make sure? i found some on ebay would it be easy to replace?

  • Zen Micro and driver installat

Running Windows XP SP2. Windows Media Player . Zen Micro with latest firmware (2.2.02).Have had this unit for a couple of years, been working fine, other than the software-driver installations have always been a pain in the you-know-what. Re-formatted puter a couple of months ago, did not re-install creative software. So today I decide to reinstall. First I used Control Panel to remove some Creative folders that were still in place for one reason or another. Then went to Creative's website, download latest drivers. Here's what I downloaded:CMS5_BRNR_PCAPP_LB_5_0_3CMS5_MTP_PCAPP_ LB_5_00_36CMS5_NJB2_PCAPP_LB_5_00_22CMS5_PCAPP_LB_ 5_0_38JB3MV2_PCWDRV_US_2_0_00ZCST_PCAPP_LB__04_06? I assumed I would need to install the driver first, which I did (JB3MV2_PCWDRV_US_2_0_00). Then connected zen. The "new hardware" thingy came up, went through the screens, pointed it to the jukebox folder which contained?two .inf files, and neither one would work. Get a message about the files not containing any device info.Going through the screens and pointing to the MTP device drivers gives me a message that the device may not be compatible, so I cancel. At this point, when the device is connected, it shows up in Device Manager as a USB device with the yellow question mark. Mediasource will not recognize it. I try some other things, surf through the support forums here, find a bunch of cryptic posts that, while related,?and after trying a few of the "suggestions", don't do anythinig to solve my problem. Went through the little things in Knowledge Base that creative tells you to do in case of this problem, which only lead back to uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling "by just following the prompts on the screen" (what a great help that is), which takes me back to the beginning of my problem without anything being resolved. So I drag out the original CD, install all the crap on there, and viola!...same problem. I downloaded and tried using JB3MV2_PCWDRV_US__30_03, same results. I'm now getting discouraged with Creative. I've killed two hours this fine morning trying to get this thing going. I have to tell you, your "support"?for this problem, and others, which from the amount of posts on the forums is not a rare one, is very lacking. It seems you have decided to put very simplistic solutions?on your knowledge base, but if the problem is a little more?involved, then you leave it up to the public in the forums to be the ones to figure it out! At this point, I am never going to purchase anything with the words "Creative" on them again!?Just tell me how to get this thing working again, in plain english. Please??

Now I am having the same problem. I too had a pc problem a few months ago and am now setting up a new/used pc.
I installed my Zen Nano software and my Zen Vision software but I could not find the Zen Micro Disk. So I downloaded the drivers from this site and installed them. Then I downloaded the new version 2 firmware while I was at it since I had an the version that did not support the audible.com books.
The firmware install seemed to stall for about 30 minutes, so I cancelled it and started again and the error message said that it "DOES NOT FIND ANY DEVICE" and yet Win XP recognizes I have a device attached.
PLEASE HELP US CREATIVE SUPPORT STAFF! I have had my Zen Micro for a few years and don't think it is fair that I have to stop using it becasue of this issue. It is only fair we get some timeley support here please.
Thank You in advance for your anticipated speedy reply.

  • Please Help! I think my hard drive might have died (iMAC G3 600)

    Hello Everybody
I'm really desparate for some help.
Directly after downloading Security Update 2007-006 my iMac G3 froze. It was switched off at the mains and since then won't get past the grey screen with the apple and the spinny thing.
I know very little about how computers work, troubleshooting etc so have spent hours searching the forum and the apple support pages, following which I have tried -
start in safe mode - no change
Boot from install disc and run disc utility. This appeared to be working but disc utility can't repair the drive and comes up with the following - 'Error - the underlying task reported failure on exit (-9972)'.
So I decided to have a go at starting up in single user mode and use fsck. But to no avail, it starts up in single user mode but never gets as far as the command line prompt. The final 3 lines of text say -
    'disk0s5: I/O error.
    Load of /sbin/mach_init, errno 2, trying /etc/mach_init
Load of etc/mach_init failed, errno 2'
and the screen is frozen, no chance of typing any commands in.
So HELP please! What does it all mean? Is my hard drive dead? Can I do anything else to try to save it? Is there anyway I can retrieve the contents of the drive if it is dead?
Sorry this is so long, I thought it best to try to explain methodically what has happened. If anyone ot there can help I will be made up.
    Cheers
    Tim

    "'disk0s5: I/O error"
I've seen this error when the read/write arm on a hard drive becomes inoperative. It looks like you need a new drive. Don't buy anything larger than 120GB, and the 7200 RPM drives work fine. Drive replacement pictoral - Takeapart for swapping drives - slot load. When you get to the step that advises taking out the drive cage, you don't really have to do that. Just loosen the 4 drive hold-down screws and slide the drive out.
Unfortunately, anything on the old drive is gone. This is how we all learn to make backups.
