Zen Micro headphone plugin probl

I'm not very sure whether this should be posted in this forum, but this is the second time that this problem occured, my zen micro gives me distorted sounds when playing music, and I have to push back the plugin where the earphone and the zen is connected just so music can be heard properly, what sort of issue is this, this is the second time that it had happened even after I returned it for repair and obtained a new one, and the same problem occured.

It's a fault with the headphone jack. The connection to the circuit board is arguably not strong enough, so in some players it partially breaks away from the circuit board causing these problems.
Some users have posted purported emails from Creative to say this has been strenthened in newer models, but Creative Support haven't confirmed or denied it on the forum.
You'll have to get the player replaced, but let Support know this is your second replacement so hopefully they can expedite matters.

I seem to have run into the headphone jack problem many other people have posted about. Any slight movement of the headphone jack will distort the sound to the point where I can no longer walk with the player.
I purchased the player through Amazon.com on January 27, 2005, so the three month parts warranty is void, but I still have the one year warranty. I never got an actual receipt from Amazon. All I have is the confirmation email with my order number. I do however have the box and all the accessories that came with the player. My question is will I be charged to get the player fixed/replaced and about how much would it be? Is it worth it's Does the problem come back? What is the best way to contact customer support?
Thank you for any help.

Creative will not "fix" the headphone jack problem, only send you a new ZM with a reinforced headphone jack. But the more you sit on this problem, the worse it'll get. Get it into Creative right away. I don't know how much it'll cost since you are outside of your 90 day warrantee, but if you look thru some of the other threads, I know it's been discussed. I bought mine from Amazon too and had the same problem. I've had my ZM back from Creative for two months and no re-occuring headphone jack problem... I think it's worth it, the ZM is a great little device! Enjoy your ZM!Message Edited by microjess on 0-20-2005 02:32 AM

• Zen micro headphone jack fix for fr

i read somewhere in the forums that Creative can fix the headphone jack problem for free?
Do you need a warranty for them to do it for you? And are all the songs on the player deleted when they fix it's
I would try and fix my Zen Micro headphone jack myself, but I'm afraid I might do something wrong.

i recently got my micro replaced at best buy after it had the headphone jack issue, and my new one is having the same problem. I'm pretty sure best buy gyped me though because they gave me a micro that was sitting out on a table like it was used or something. Since this was within the last 3 months am i able to mail my micro in to creative to get one of the new, hopefully fixed, ones for free? It's soooo frustrating because i love the micro but the stupid head phone jack just makes me want to strangle it.

• Zen micro headphone jack cheap

I started having intermittant problems with the zen micro headphone jack that has been well described. I found that if I held the headphone plug in a certain position that both channels worked well. I took a standard size staple and placed one prong of the staple in the thin space between the headphone jack and the body of the micro in a location where the headphone jack would be forced into the position where both stereo channels worked. I then broke the prong off by bending the staple back and forth and then pushed the sharp edge down with the end of a ballpoint pen. This made the headphone jack fit very snugly in the position where both channels worked when I plugged the headphone in. It solved the problem completely and is significantly cheaper than the $40.00 creative would want to fix the problem.

You could easily take it out with a pin or using another staple to catch the bottom of it. It really doesn' go in very far. Certainly would take it out if if can't fix the problem before sending it in. Its amazing that the staple diameter is exactly the size needed to keep the microphone jack tight in the case.

• Zen micro headphone static sh

Has any else experienced a shock of their Zen Micro headphones?
I get a shock almost every day off of mine !
Is this a known problem or is my Zen about to blow up?
Anybody any ideas ?
Thx

Are you walking around on carpet at the time? It might be just static, if you've built up a potential difference relati've to your headphones.

• Zen Micro headphone probl

I bought my Zen Micro in mid November(Limited Edition w/ extra battery) and has bee working fantastically until now. As I twist the headphone jack inside its socket, the sound of the music becomes very echo like and very soft but if I continue twisting it then it returns to normal. This has been very persistent for the last month and customer support has been unresponsi've. I only use my Zen on trips and at school, never for excersising and have never dropped it. On occation, if you tug on the headphone jack in just the right way, the player automatically turns on so sometimes in class, my music starts to play. I've called everyday since 5/2 at 3:00pm Western(California) and only get a message telling me the business hours. E-mail has been unresponsi've.
My friend at school also told me that in the first gen Zen Micros that this is a common problem and told me to refer to these fourms and I haven't found much at all with the Search Bar. Thank you for all your help!

MechAnt: It is a fault that gets posted about relati'vely frequently. Creative Support shouldn't be unresponsi've so () check your email spam trap for replies (2) make sure you reply to the first email you received from them (it does say to do this in the email). Failing that give them a call, or reply here and a moderator can look into whether they received your email or not.

• Headphone plugin probl

hey
i just recently bought a zen micro and im having some problems. The headphone jack on it is super sensiti've and ski
ps.
Whenever the headphone plugin is moved slightly it messes up how it plays(i.e. skips or lowers in volume or doesnt play) I thought it might jsut be my new headphones but its the player cause the standarn buds that come with are having this problem also. I could send it in but im going on vacatoin next week and would like to ahve it working. Is there anything i might have dont to do this. It jsut started after i down loaded the new firmware that allows me to use windows media 0. I dont think thats the problem though. let me know if u have any advice.
thx
greg

Unfortunately this sounds like the jack has failed, which has happened to a few others. The only thing you can do is return it where you bought it for a replacement or contact Creative Support.

• Pick up metal objects with zen micro headphones? battery life with firmware 1.02

hey all
just purchased my zen micro couple days ago.
the package we got here in downunder is satifying. included were the wired remote and also the stand/case with belt clip. these were the only reasons that made me choose this over the ipod mini.
this has not occurred to me until tonight, but the headphones seems to act as magnets and were stuck to each other as the phones were dangling
i never noticed this happening with other phones
also the battery life of my zen was horrendous. its lasted 5 hrs with eq and smart volume on. the zen was on hold the whole time as the actions were controlled by the wired remote.
this was with the firmware that was shipped with the player .0.03 i believe
have just updated the firmware now, and will be testing the battery life to see if the problem is rectified.
if not, then an exhange for an ipod is inevitable.

Yep, SV is a battery killer, around a 50% drop in life has been meaured and the effect is known to be pretty negligible.
And as others have said, them headphones have magnets in, like pretty much any speaker

• Zen Micro headphone jack loosened resulting in poor earphone connect

I have had the 5g zen micro for 9 months now and love it. My battery play time has been tremendous, I migrated to the window media player and managing my music cannot be easier, I bought some high end earphones and the sound has been off the charts. But, recently, the headphone connection became loose and now my sound goes in and out, from right to left, sometimes muted or muffled...unless I hold the jack in place. It's become impossible to enjoy my music now.
I have sent a note to Creative customer service how I can get this fixed ASAP, as I don't want to be without my mp3 for an extended period of time. Has anyone had to deal with Creative on this? Do you have any suggestions?
I just bought another zen micro for a family member and now worried this may happen to them. I have not heard this problems from any of my friends that use the IPOD

Sounds like the common headphone jack problem. You need to contact support. iPods have the problem also, as do most (if not all) players. Whether the incidence is the same, who knows!

• Zen Micro Headphone Jack problems-are the new ones

Gonna buy a Zen Micro Photo 8GB player-had one of the 5gb ones a year and a half ago and the headphone jack went on that-have the problems with the headphone jack been sorted out in the new ones?

• Zen Micro Headphone Problem: How long does it ta

Hi all,I took my Zen Micro Unit (purchased March 2005) back to the place of purchase today, so that it could be submitted for service to correct the Headphone Jack problem. I was wondering how long it will take now before the unit is either repaired or replaced, as I am already suffering from withdrawal symptoms... I'm missing my music ? Please, anyone who has had this service performed by Creative, let me know:
a) whether the unit can be repaired or is just replaced,

b) if the unit is to be replaced can I be assured that the problem won't occur again

c) how long will it take to receive some kind of notification from Creative?

Cheers,Brett

how long will it take to receive some kind of notification from Creative?
Since you took it back to the store for the repair, you should contact the store for the updates info. I don't think creative will contact you regarding the repair.Reason, simple. Cos it's the store(directly) that return the player to them and not you. and not creative since they won't know who send those player back except it's from the store.
if the unit is to be replaced can I be assured that the problem won't occur again
No one in the world can assure you this cos there's no 00% unbreakable products
whether the unit can be repaired or is just replaced,
Most likely replaced and not repair according to the majority of the post here.

• Zen Micro headphone jack horror stories, truth or scar

I've been looking for an Mp3 player for over 4 months(since January), and I have looked through many Micro-Hard Dri've and Flash Memory players, including: Dell Pocket DJ, iPod Mini, Rio Carbon, Creative Zen Micro, iPod Shuffle, Creative MuVo Micro N200, and Creative MuVo TX FM. I'm glad to say that I decided on the Zen Micro. I've had it for 4 days now(including today), and so far, it is working great, better than I had hoped. Everything is nice about it; the only that scares me is the problem that many people have with the Zen Micro, the headphone jack problem. I've heard numerous reports of people with a Zen Micro who complain that after about 2-5 months of usage, the headphone jack will break, and little or NO sound will come out of it. And they say that this is a problem that is meant to happen with all Zen Micros. Hmmm is this true? I hope this doesn't happen to me. Do you think that upgrading the firmware will help fix the problem(btw, I still use ..03....or something like that, I haven't updated it)?

thug_outlaw69 wrote:
Just don't use a straight angle headphone plug like the ones that came with the Zen Micro. Use one with a 90 degree angle.
That doesn't make any difference, reportedly... just prolonges the problem so it doesn't break until the warranty's over....

• Creative Zen Micro: Headphone Ja

Hi! I was thinking of getting a Creative Zen Micro for my fiancee this Christmas, but the problem I keep reading about in reviews is how the headphone jack keeps messing up. It's a shame since we're both anti-iPods and were thinking of better alternati'ves to use. Does anyone know if this problem has been fixed for the newer Zen Micros? If so, is there any way to tell if a Zen Micro is of the newer fixed version, or the old? I really wouldn't want to get her something that breaks two months down the road, but if it wasn't for this problem the Zens are looking pretty slick.

Well, if it were for myself I wouldn't mind taking a risk, but it's not.. and for over $200 I'd rather get her a product that works, even if I have to pay a little more for it. :/ Does anyone know for sure? I've heard a lot of rumors that it has been fixed, with nothing to confirm it but people hoping their 3rd Micro replacement won't fizzle out, but I figure I might get a real answer by posting on the Creative forum.

yellow69beetle wroteo you think that if I called Customer Service and gave them my serial number..they would be able to tell me anything?
It's worth a try, others have said they have got information this way.
Shinryuu wrote:Telling your serial wouldn't change a thing. I wouldn't be surprised if the Zen Micro Photo has the headphone jack problem.
This goes against what others have said: copied emails from Creative which say the hardware has been updated. Also others have said they have contacted Customer Service and been told their player has a reinforced headphone jack.
