Zen Micro- Indefinitely Froz

[size="2" face="Verdana">I've had my zen micro for about a year, because I got it last Christmas. I've listened to it frequently since I first got it. Just recently, I have come very close to filling up my memory. But I guess I am using too much memory and my zen keeps [color="#6633ff">freezing up. Yes, I've read all of the help tutorials but they talk about [color="#00cc33">recovery mode, formatting,?clean up, and things of that nature. I'd be happy to try those options but I can't even get that far. My player is [color="#6666ff">freezing up on the zen micro logo and I can't even get into any type of menu [color="#ff0000"]at all. I've restarted my player about 20 times now over the course of the past two days. I've tried plugging it into my USB to bring it back to life. No answer. [color="#ff0099">Please help
!!! [color="#330000">My player has a history of "rebuilding library" and freezing frequently but I think my zenny is really at the end of the road now.

Yeah, I can't even get to the [color="#ff6600">menu to format it. Basically I never get to view any menus or [color="#339900">anything because it [color="#6633ff">freezes on the intro. As soon as I turn it on it [color="#6666ff">freezes up so?I can't do ANYTHING. I've tried to plug it into the computer to like [color="#ff0000"]delete some songs and see if [color="#339900">freeing the memory would help, but the computer won't recognize the device because it's [color="#ff0099">on but it can't [color="#ff0099">access my song database. So I feel like there's nothing I can do except buy a new one. I wouldn't mind doing that because mine is old anyway, but if I buy another zen micro, is it possible to [color="#cc00cc">transfer my chip from the old one to the new one so I can at least [color="#cc00cc">keep all of my songs?ps- my player never went to [color="#6633ff">recovery mode on its own because I left it on for a [color="#ff0000"]while with no progress. It [color="#ff0000"]stops at the same screen every time (the one right after the [color="#0033ff">little water drop!)Message Edited by nelli289 on -29-200606:3 PM

  • Zen micro just froze up! he

I bought a Zen Micro 5gm from Ebay many months ago and immediately downloaded over 000 songs onto it. I was just using it last night and plugged it in to recharge the battery and then decided to listen to it today. It powered up and as soon as it got past the creative screen, it said something like "please choose what songs to play from your music library" and to get weirder, when i went to the menu and chose music library, all tracks, it just froze up and did nothing.........it wouldn't power off, so i took the battery out, replaced it, and tried again. It did the exact same thing. It has been working so well, no problems ever, and i have never dropped it or anything like that. It seems that it can't even find my music files. The bad thing is, I don't have those 000 songs backed up on my computer or anything, it took me months to customize my library and download the songs. It is freezing up and i can't find any of my songs that were all there last night!
What should I do? I don't have the original warranty anymore. I don't have a hard copy of a manual either. This is the first mp3 player i've ever had, so i'm fairly new to the whole process and am not sure what to do in order for it to work properly and NOT lose all my music files. HELP! And, just in case I do get this up and working right without losing my music library, is there a way to be able to send my music library back to my computer and save it somehow?
I am fairly computer literate so I'm able to follow instructions or directions, but I really hate the thought of having to download all those songs again, some of them were almost impossible to get in the first place.
Any help from anyone would be greatly appreciated!

    Barb,

  • Zen Micro Photo froze up with adding playlist while audio was play

This morning, I was listening to a track and tried adding a predefined playlist by clicking on the menu (lower right) button and selecting "Add to Selected". A box box appeared and a buzzing sound was heard in my headphones. At this point, the player froze. All efforts to revi've it by shutting down the payer failed. I finally resorted to removing and re-inserting the battery. After getting a "Rebuilding Library" messages for several minutes, the player shut down, and all appears to be normal now. Should I be able to perform this action? I have been able to add an album while another album is playing without a problem. This playlist is quite large - some 50 plus mp3 tracks. Thanks to any and all........

The key pad is locked up. It will reboot however, it will not allow me to select cleanup, reformat, or any other selection. New firmware didn't change anything. I've sent it back to Creative. Now the long wait...

  • Zen Micro problem need help

Today i was listening to music and my zen micro just froze while playing and no buttons could be pressed and the lock button wasnt on. So i took the battery out and rebooted the player but it froze at the creative screen. I went home and i went to recovery mode and tried to reload the firmware but it said erasing firmware for more than 2 hours. So then i tried a format but it said formating for the same amount of time. I need help please. Also, recently i've had problems witht the headphone jack. When ever i would stick it in it would sound distorted and i would have to move it around until i got it to a certain spot to hear it good again. If anyone else has this problem please tell me. One more thing i had returned my other micro zen in for hard dri've probems and this was my new one do u think if i have to return in (hopefully not) that they would accept it.

If the functions in Rescue Mode aren't working properly then you need to contact Creative Support.

  • Zen Micro freezing on connect

    Hi
I just bought my Zen Micro today and had no problems with it at first. I charged it until it was fully charged and then plugged it into my computer. It was detected by the computer and everything seemed to be working well. I ran Media Explorer and imported some music into my Zen Micro. I disconnected my Zen Micro from the computer and tried out the music. Everything was fine.
So I decided to plug it back into my computer and import some more music. The Zen Micro was again detected. I run Media Explorer again but this time it indicates that the player isn't plugged in properly. At this time my Zen Micro had froze. So I took out the battery and tried it again. I plugged it into my computer and ran Media Explorer and I got the same result.
So I tried the Clean Disk method and rebooted. It still wouldn't work. I tried to download the firmware update but when I connected my Zen Micro to the computer and tried updating, the firmware program would indicate that my Zen Micro could not be detected even though Windows detected it. My Zen would also freeze up.
So this time I tried formatting it from the same menu with the Clean Disk option. It still didn't work. So I tried using the different USB ports on my computer and it still didnt work. So I went over to my brother's computer and sadly I got the same result. So I tried downloading the updated version of the Media Explorer. Even then I still got the same result.
Can someone please help me~? I really don't want to have to return this lovely player because I got the last Limited Edition box at the store I bought it at. ThanksMessage Edited by hakuto on 0-03-2005 06:38 AM

Has anyone come up with a solution to this problem? I too have ran into a brick wall where the Zen Micro will crash whenever connected to a PC (or mac at that), but will not crash when connected to the AC adaptor. This happens after multiple disk cleanups, formats, and even a firmware reload, although the problem still remains and now I cannot even load a firmware to the player. I also tried using another USB to Mini USB cable I have lying around, only to the same results.
Please help ASAP so I can finish this review...

  • Zen Micro Crashes on low batt

I purchased my Zen Micro 5gig last May, and had no problems til January, when while listening the battery went to 0 bars and froze and wouldn't turn off. Took the battery out and it would start, but would freeze on the main screen. I cam on here for advice and I ended up having to reformat. It was running fine since then, and I finally managed to get most of my lost songs back on. And then today, the battery was running low, so I decided to charge it from the computer while listening. I had bar left, was listening fine, hit the pause for a second, and have since not been able to do anything. It appears frozen on that screen. All the buttons still make a sound when hit, but it won't lock or turn off, and appeared to still be charging. After about 45mins the screen went blank, and will now not turn on and will not charge through USB. It was updated with new firmware in Feb. So I was wondering if other experience this problem. What should I do to get it to turn back on? Is it a bug with mine? Do you think I will have to reformat and loose all my files again? :-(?Thanx for your help

    agrhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
so last night, i installed the latest firmware and did the disc cleanup.
this morning, the zen micro crashed/froze again!!
    - turned it on
    - creative splash screen (this screen now scares me)
    - zen micro splash screen... frozen, started playing song then became bzzzzzzzzzz sound
    - removed battery
    - started back up in recovery mode
    - did disc cleanup
    - rebooted
    - creative screens again
    - rebuilding library
worked after that. of course i had to add all the songs back into the now playing.
if i'm going to have to do this all the time, then i'm going to start to regret buying this player.
    will reformating the disc help?
do creative techs ever visit this forum?

  • My Zen Micro froze and just won't W

I've seen posts about this same problem, but I found no solution
My problem: While I was listening to a song, it suddenly stopped. I tried to press the play button over and over again but it would not play. The entire touch pad didn't work. I couldn't turn it off either. I took out the battery and placed it back in. Once I put the battery in, a screen comes up as "CREATIVE" and freezes right there. I go to the recovery menu, but none of the options helped. I would try to scan it, but the box would just say "Scanning disc..." and will not change. Finally my battery would just die. I tried to hook up the USB cord and start up the Zen Micro program, but it doesn't work. The program won't even come up. My Zen also makes a strange sound when I put the battery in.
I e-mailed Creative earlier today, hopefully I'll get a response soon.
Does anyone know what I can do? I've read some replies people have made to others who had similar problems, but I'm not quite sure how to follow their directions. If anyone can help me, please try to make the directions really easy to follow.
    Thanks.

If none of the options in Recovery Mode help, then it sounds like there's a problem with the player. Customer Support should be able to help you in that case.

    An update...
I downloaded Apple's (rather large!) list of software updates today, and I was finally able to recognize my iPod again. I did a restore using the iPod updater from 06-2006, and all seemed to work OK. (I'm afraid to try the new one again!)
Then I tried to re-load my music library from iTunes, and got stuck. It froze up after a while and wouldn't go any further.
When I disconnected my iPod from my computer, I find 2 podcasts and nothing else, though iTunes told me it had transferred 600+ songs. Those 2 podcasts do play fine, and the basic iPod software all seems to be intact.
So -- anyone get through this connection problem and have any ideas to share??

  • Zen Micro has died and I need to fix it myse

    Hi,
I was using my Zen Micro one particular morning for a couple of hours (full battery) where everything was working perfectly. Later that afternoon I attempted to turn it on but nothing happened, not a single thing. Nothing lit up, I couldn't hear the HDD sound either. I thought at first it could be the battery, so when I got home I tried running it from the charger with and without the battery, both times nothing happened.
Under normal circumstances my first course of action would be to simply to get a replacement however I don't believe that will be possible as I voided the warranty recently by fixing the infamous jack problem. I fixed it myself because getting a replacement seems futile as all Zen Micro's continue to have the same design flaw.
Does anyone have any idea why my Zen has completely died on me?
Any chance I can I get a replacement?
Can any of you tell me how I could possibly fix it myself (I take full responsibility if anything breaks)?Message Edited by mark_s on -0-2005 2:05 AM

    5G Zen Micro, green
Hey, I had my zen micro for a long time since aug 9 and yesterday it broke down on me. Somehow I can't play anything. When I turn it on, it freezes and doesn't go to the menu. I tried using the recovery mode and clean it up but it froze again.
I don't know how i'm going to send it back to the factury to repair it. My micro was previously repaired like two weeks ago. The bad news is that sending back the my micro requires the reciet, but I have given it to them before and I was sure that they would give it back, but no. So how can I send it back without a reciet.

  • Help! My Zen Micro is detected but not connected to zen media explorer & mediasou

    Hi
recently i just bought a creative zen micro at 5 GB. after installing all the drivers and programs using the installation CD that came with my player, I connected my player through the USB cable to my pc USB root hub.
an auto-detect of my zen micro window pops up at the righthand corner, prompting me to click 'organize' in the creative media source. clicking the organize option, mediasource program starts but while it is loading the music library, an error message: CTCMS, The program has performed a illegal operation......etc.
i tried disconnecting my player followed by opening the media source prog and connecting my player after that. another error message: file operation failed. please ensure that your player is properly connected.
I'm using windows 98 SE on an AMD processor. i was able to use the removable disk mode of my player to store data from pc. However when comes to the media mode of my player, it is shown as not connected status in the zen micro media explorer and in the creative media source program, it's either shown as not properly connected or illegal operation when loading music library from my player. in addition, under the device manager, the creative zen micro driver is shown as working properly. i was also able to upgrade my firm ware to version .02.05. using my pc to connect to my player. However, even before upgrading the firmware, this problem is already present. i have contacted the creative technical support helpdesk for advise on this issue and they have suggested to me various solutions such as checking my drivers if they are updated, reinstalling the drivers and software applications for the media library, installing jet engine service pack for my windows and the MDAC component but still nothing works.
anyone have any suggestions? pls help
    thanks

    Hi,
Sorry I can't help you. I just wanted to let you know I have the same exact problem. It started three days ago and I've been going back and forth with creative support and nothing has worked. I am beginning to grow really distressed. I feel a little better now because after seeing that it's happening with someone else, it is most likely not the player. I am running windows 98 SE as well. I also have an AMD Duron processor. I have a new computer on the way with windows XP I really hope it works. But now I have a new problem. I listed it on the front page of this forum a few minutes ago. My player froze and now only boots up in rescue mode. I am getting so frustrated with my player. If you figure anything out will you be as kind as to send me a message on how you got your player working again? I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

  • Problem with Zen Micro TravelD

I had a 5GB?Zen Micro which started "skipping" when I used it with the TravelDock. I returned the TravelDock for a replacement. The Zen Micro worked fine for several months, then started "skipping" again. Finally, one day while using it in the TravelDock, it froze on re-building library and I was never able to revi've it. Note that I never had any "skipping" problem while using the Zen Micro with the headphones-only with the TravelDock. I bought a second 5GB ZenMicro a month ago. At first, all was fine when I used it in the TravelDock. The last few days, the "skipping" has started again. As with my first Zen Micro, I have no problem with any track when I use the headphones. The skipping while in the TravelDock is not always on the same track, and again, those tracks play fine when I use the Zen Micro with the headphones. Has anyone else had this problem Any ideas Thanks for any help!

I've had the same problem since I got the thing, except that it's SPORADIC. Nine times out of ten I can't connect. I've tried other cables, other PC's without bettering the odds.
    Most of the time:
    () Plug in the Micro.
    (2) Hear the USB connection "bong" sound.
    (3) "MTP Media Player" window opens. "What do you want Windows to do?"
    Take your choice
    * Synchonize Media Files to this device using Windows Media Player
    * Take no action
    (4) It doesn't matter. If I select "media player" it can't find the device. If I select "no action" and then click on "My computer" the flashlight searches, but it can't find it either.
    (5) Note the Micro says "Docked" with solid arrows. It looks connected to me.
    (6) Unplug the Micro.
    (7) The Micro still says "Docked" and now I have to remove the batteries to use it.
I tried e-mail help from creative. They had me try "clean up," they had me try un-installing and re-installing the PC software. None of it made any difference. Finally they suggested reverting back to the old non MTP software. At that point I gave up on them because I had the same problem before I upgraded.
I tried calling creative. They had my try "clean up" which of course did nothing. Finally they said I should exchange the unit. I'm not convinced that would help, and I don't want to be without it for 0-5 days.
Scanning this forum today I see two more suggestions. Let the battery run down a bit before syncing. Don't let the USB root hub turn off the power. I'll try, but I don't have much hope.

  • Zen Micro iss

My problem is that my computer won't recognize my micro when I try to connect it with the zen micro media explorer or the creative removable disk manager.
But it does sync with WMP0 and the free trial of Napster to go that I have. I have many songs that I ripped from CD's and downloaded from Napster on it right now as proof.
    My firmware version is 2.20.05
Will upgrading fix this problem? (I never had to upgrade like it said to for Napster, so I don't know.)
Also, I did an experiment with battery life...Letting the battery run out from being fully charged and doing nothing at all with it, it lasted 8 hours. When I use it though, I doubt I even get 5 hours. Would the firmware help this?

The exact same thing has happened to me twice.
With my first Creative Zen Micro it worked beautifully till I installed the firmware Napster told me to. After that my computer did not recognise the device and only recognised it on Napster or as an MTP Device
Then the Zen froze on the first "Creative" screen when you start it up so I got a replacement.
Now I have a new Zen Micro and the same thing has happened, it is not recognised by the computer, because of the Napster firmware.
    This is really annoying.
My mum and sister both have Zen Micros and their computer failed to recognise theirs, they too used Napster.
So I have come to a conclusion that the fault is with the Napster Firmware.
I will now re-install my software and see if that works.
I don't like installing firmware as it takes ages to put all the music back on.
I have downloaded all the possible firmware.
