Zen Micro - Installation CD error mess

Hello there...
I just bought the Zen Micro today, and as I was attempting to load the installation CD, I received the following error message:
"Exception occurred: Stream write error"
Does anyone have a fix for this problem? Thanks very much!

I can't seem to get zen micro media explorer to acknowledge that my player is docked into my computer. I keep getting a message that says "the device is not connected. Please connect your Zen micro to the computer".
Has anyone run into this?

Just to tag along with this thread. I also updated the driver and applications for my Zen. All works fine. The only flaw is after upgrading the MediaSource to 3.30.2 the PC desktop shortcut icon is not automatically created after removing the earlier release one. I gotta manually create it. And there is no need to uninstall any earlier release cuz it seems the installer is smart enuff to detect earlier release and do uninstall before install the latest version.
I feel some changes in the software but not so critical but I guess I want the latest version to keep up with the times :smileytongue:

• FIX: Zen Micro Installer Error - "DemoShield Player has encountered an error.

I just thought I'd post a solution to a problem I was having with the Zen Micro Explorer software installation because it might help someone else. Also, this forum is well indexed by search engines so it will be easy for people to find. It took me well over an hour to track this down.
After starting the Zen Micro Explorer Installer CD, a full screen splash is shown of the creative logo and then DemoShield is started for the software install. It shows an intro screen where you must click 'Next,' on clicking next the DemoShield program was crashing with the generic Windows error "DemoShield encountered an error..." The problem appears to be a software conflict between DemoShield and Apple's QuickTime (any version as far as I know). Disabling the QuickTime startup entry does not help, installing in Safe Mode does not help and exiting any instance of QT in the system tray does not help either.
To fix the problem you must un-install the QuickTime software from your computer by going through the Add/Remove Programs screen in the Control Panel. Once un-installed, run the Creative installer CD again, this time it will run correctly. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the install.
<i>Please note that if you have installed iTunes on your system it will not run while QuickTime is uninstalled, this is normal. Re-installation of QuickTime is covered later in this post.</i>
When you have completed the install and restarted your computer you can re-install QuickTime. At the time of writing (4th Sept 2005) QuickTime and iTunes are bundled in one download package so you must download both. You can <a href='http://www.apple.com/QuickTime/download/' target=_blank>get the bundle here. Let it download and run the installer. If you already have iTunes installed, the installer will 'Repair' your installation, detecting that QT is missing it will re-install. If you do not have iTunes the installer will installer iTunes and QuickTime.
When you have completed the QuickTime+iTunes install you have got around the DemoShield issue. I hope this of use to anybody with a similar problem.Message Edited by PhilM on 09-5-2005 02:30 AM

Hi Jeremy,
I knew it was an issue with QuickTime because I clicked on 'Send Error Report' on the error message and it took me to <a href='http://oca.microsoft.com/en/response.aspx?SGD=0b73e24-7433-4ee-ac4c-49956d08c85c&SID=623' target=_blank>this page. It states "An analyst at Microsoft has investigated this problem and determined that an unknown error occurred in QuickTime Player. This software was created by Apple Computer, Inc.."
My QuickTime version is 7.0.2. My operating system is WIndows XP Home (Athlon 64; 52Mb RAM)
Eventually I just tried uninstalling QuickTime and it wroked after I did that. Some screenshots: <a href='http://www.phantomphil.co.uk/ZM/' target=_blank>Click
The contents of my disk.id file reads:
Creative Zen Micro
ZENM-CDSD-W-LB
Hope this hel
ps.

• Zen Micro Installation help...please

I just got a 5 gig Zen Micro. All was well until I attempted to install the program in the computer, which led to "Error code -600", which told me to clear my temp folder and check my internet connections. I have a cable connection, windows XP, and Norton antivirus. Does this have anything to do with my problem? If not, what am I doing wrong?
please, someone, help. I'm about to ritually disassemble my micro.
thanks and happy holidays

ok i found the problem.
after a few hours of googling i found that the error is caused by an outdated version of windows installer.
to fix this problem on your computer find the folder
C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield
and rename it to
C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield-old
and then run your install again that should fix your problem

• Zen Micro installation problem - file "data2.cab" neede

Hey
Trying to install my Zen micro software when it says, " Please insert dist that contains the file data2.cab"
I have the installation CD so why is file not on it'sDan

It might be a problem with the CD, but it sounds an odd error to get.
You can of course download the latest drivers and software from the download page for your player, so this is probably the best workaround as well as getting the latest software.

Or just go to http://www.station-drivers.com/page/sb%20audigy2.htm and get 3.20.72 & 3.20.78
I successfully loaded 3.20.72 overtop of MediaSource 2, then loaded 3.20.78. I noticed that they have 3.30.04 listed, but when I loaded it my system didn't appear to update.
I remember their sound card mediasource will only install if you have a creative sound card in your computer. I don't think it will install for people who don't have their sound card.

• Zen Micro Installation P

Hi,
I have a Zen Micro and am currently away and would like to play my zen through my friends laptop. However, my installation cd is at home and I can't find it on the download page (unless i don't know what i'm doing !).
Can someone post a link to the installation or point me in the right direction ?\
cheers pezza

Hi Pezza,
You didn't mention which firmware you have on the player, check that first.
If it's version .x - get these files from our Downloads page, and install them in the same order as listed:
Creative Zen and Jukebox Driver Upgrade version .30.03 - JB3MV2_PCWDRV_US__30_03.EXE
Creative MediaSource Player/Organizer 3.30.2 - CMS_PCAPP_LB_3_30_2.exe
Creative Zen and NOMAD Jukebox plugin 2.00.20 for Creative MediaSource - CMS_PJB3_PCApp_LB_2_00_20.exe
If the firmware is version 2.x, then you can get the second file from that list (MediaSource), and get this plugin:
Creative MediaSource Plugin for PlaysForSure devices (version .00.8) - CMS_PCMTP_LB__00_8.exe
And Windows Media Player 0 from Microsoft's site.
You can get all the blue updates from our Downloads page, just select the Zen Micro in the list and it will show you all the files that are available.

• *sigh* zen micro installation probl

from searches, i see that this is common. haven't found a good solution to it yet, though.
i just bought a zen micro 6GB for my girlfriend. (awww). i have XP, and installed everything on the disc except acrobat and the aol shortcut.
creative mediasource installs fine .... the zen micro explorer installs fine .... but when i plug the player to the computer, it ) doesn't charge and 2) isn't recognized.
there is a yellow question mark on its usb port when i search for it.
what am i doing wrong?

Your chances of getting it to work when XP has a service pack is greatly increased. There are some who have got their player working on XP without a service pack, but on many systems a service pack is necessary. As far as I can tell it doesn't matter if you have SP or SP2 installed, there is no difference in success rates.

• Zen micro file transfer error and playing mista

My Zen Micro 5GB had some problems wih the sound:sometimes, listening to a song, I heard (more orless) a second of another song but after that isreturned to the selected one. This is not the only problem: sometimes, whentransferring data between a PC and the player'sstorage dri've (2GB) it stops after a while. When transferring music from the player to the PCusing Music Organizer the PC receives some musicbut after a while it stops and displays amessage 'Cannot transfer file: file not found';after this, the player remains 'busy' also if youclose all the programs opened. I tried to fix this in many ways I installed the version 2.x firmware, so Icould re-install the latest .x version.2) I learned how to access the recovery functionsand I tried all of themBut after all this, it continues to display theerror message and I think sometimes it could stopplaying the song I'm listenig to and play asecond of another one.

all the songs are mp3 format
the transfer window pops up, the status will say writing for about 5sec. then the error comes up and says unable to create file - restart player and try again.
but then the player has the acti've docked logo on, which you aren't supposed to unplug from the computer when that's on, but it will not go off. I've left it for hours and ended up unplugging it anyway. So I've restarted it, pulled the batter and retried that a few times too.
Any ideas?
thanks for your help

• Zen Micro with "firmware error". Seeking resuscitation advi

I've posted in several threads as my Zen Micro's health deteriorated and got no advice yet. Hope this time someone figures out what can I do.
I've got a Zen Micro, using it with Windows XP SP2 with WMP 0.
Firmware on player was 2..02 . I started having issues when syncing, it would hang and not finish the session, with the device screen on the "do not disconnect" signal. Read the forum and followed an advice to "upgrade" firmware.
Tried to reload firmware, but the process hanged at the "erasing firmware" screen for a long long time. I disconnected the player. After that, the device won't boot. It goes to the recovery screen after a "firmware error" sign.
If I try to re-upgrade with 2..02 firmware using the PC, the progress advances but at some point it says "firmware upgrade failed".
Tried to roll-back to . firmware. It goes through. It says (showing 2 blue squares of progress) "format completed successfully" then the progress stops and the player remain with the "do not disconnect" signal for a long long time (30 minutes, hour, forever?).
I tried to roll-back to .0 firmware. Message says "please install latest jukebox driver that support your player". I did, but the message stays.
Anyone knows what can I do to load a firmware succesfully?Message Edited by raft on -7-20062:56 PM

Dear Creative!
You screwed the upgrade program a bit, because it is works ONLY IN ENGLISH version on Windows XP. Shame! You are pushing me into the sea of warez...

• Zen Micro Installation Help PLEEEAAASSSEEE

My computer does not detect my zen micro nor does the software it came with. I reset it completely- there is no firmware on it. So is it possible for my computer to detect it, even if it doesnt have firmware? Right now when i boot up my micro it goes straight to Recovery Mode. thanks sooo much for any help...

It's very similar to the procedure described here in the Zen FAQ at Nomadness.net.

• Zen Micro Installation CD L

Hi, still having loads of problems with MediaSource, still doesn't want to work properly.
Until we get a new computer I'm having to li've with it, but I am now having trouble trying to find which software I need to run Zen Micro on it, having lost the software CD that it came with. I cannot put music on it until I find the software, but is it available as a download from the site? I can't seem to find anything. Many thanks in advance.

Thanks, but I have been there, I have no idea what it is I'm looking for... I don't want to update the firmware on my player because it's not the player that has a problem and I don't want to have to restore all of my music. I just want to be able to find the right software that would have come with the CD. I don't know what this software is called in the download list, there are no names for downloads that are self-explanatory. Can anyone help please? thanks.

• Zen micro installation probl

Hi guys...
after installing CD software , I reset my PC, and when then I plug the Zen Micro I always get an ask from Win ( whatever 2000 or 98 ) to install drivers... I'm maybe doing anything wrong?

It shouldn't make any difference whether USB or 2. I'm not sure where the drivers are unpacked to (I'm having a similar discussion in another thread) but for the earlier Zens it was C:\Program Files\Creative\Jukebox 3 Drivers. You could check there, and if it exists do a manual update. Failing that do a search in the C:\Program Files\Creative directory for *. INF and then try pointing the driver update to any directories it finds.
It might be there's another problem though if this player is working and being installed on other PCs, but not this one.
