Zen Micro installation problem - file "data2.cab" neede

Hey
Trying to install my Zen micro software when it says, " Please insert dist that contains the file data2.cab"
I have the installation CD so why is file not on it'sDan

It might be a problem with the CD, but it sounds an odd error to get.
You can of course download the latest drivers and software from the download page for your player, so this is probably the best workaround as well as getting the latest software.

• Need Help Urgently Zen Micro "Firmware Problem&qu

Hello,
I've had my Zen Micro for a year now and due to a "screw up" when i start my player it displays the error "Firmware Problem" and start up in recovery mode. When I try to reload the firmware the update application on my pc it says "Your player is not connected" now can I fix this so I can start using my wonderful Zen again?
PC Specs If needed: Windows Media Center Service Pack 2

Thanks for the reply, but that firmware download doesn't work for me. As I said in my original post, my player is not recognized as being connected when it is. It is not my computer because Jukebox opens up when it detects the device and it is listed among my removable hardware.
I've downloaded the software, but nothing happens after the "select your language" prompt. It just says "Your player is not connected please connect your player" with a grayed out 'Upgrade' button and a darkened 'Close' button. I've tried unplugging and reconnecting the USB, but it still doesn't recognize that it's there.
Anyone else have an idea?Message Edited by lizzievee on 02-04-2007:29 AM

• Zen Micro Driver Problem

Hey guys,
I have a 6GB Zen Micro and I'm able to view it in My Computer. I can manually drag-and-drop music files onto the device through "My Computer" but I am unable to copy my music onto my computer.
I've tried installing all drivers for my device to no avail. I've heard that there's a problem with Windows Media and that you have to rollback to 0, but I'm using RealPlayer.
I'm using these drivers:
Creative ZEN and Jukebox Driver 2.0.00 (.86 MB)
Creative Zen and Jukebox Driver Upgrade version .30.03 (.3 MB)
Am I doing something wrong?
Thanks,
Tom

If you are running Windows 98 SE . . .
Windows 98 SE does not recognize the Zen Micro until its Windows 98 SE
drivers and firmware are installed and that has to be done on a machine running
XP (or one of the other newer operation systems.)
Once I enstalled its Windows 98 SE drivers and firmware via a machine running
XP, my machine - running Windows 98SE - had no problems recognizing it or its
software.
PS.
If you download upgrades from Creative's site make sure that you are
downloading programs that are for Windows 98 SE (there is an operating
system field - make sure it says Windows 98 SE.) Those drivers and firmare
will need XP for installation but will be recognized by a machine running
Windows 98 SE after they are installed. There is no need for XP with the
application software - they will install on Windows 98 SE without problems.

• Windows Vista vs Zen Micro: Software Problems

Hey guys,
Looking for a little help and this seems to be the right place to get, lots of helpful people!I have a 3 year old Zen Micro, 4/5Gb I think and it worked fine with my old Dell laptop which ran XP, I used to drag and drop mpg files easily with the bundled software, all was well. Back in January the Dell laptop reached the end of it's life and I layed my hands on a new Sony Vaio laptop, running the all singing, all dancing brand new shiney Windows Vista. For whatever reason, I had no need for the MP3 player for most of this this summer and now I've come to need it again and it obviously needs updating (all my music is 6 months out of date) and it seems I've lost the original software disc, bummer. So I downloaded the ZenCast Organiser & Sync software off the Creative site as it said it ran withVista and plug in the Micro and .........nothing.
The Sync manager thing just says that there's no player attatched and it won't hook up. Am I missing something? Do I need another driver for it'sor something I've had a look through this site and all. I seem to be able to find is what I've already downloaded. Help!

MiniMan64 wrote:
ow stupid is this though! Why aren't Creative releasing any updates to allow older players to work on new machines?!
Well they are releasing updates, the trouble is you need the old OS to apply them. I suspect there's technical reasons for updates not working on newer OS's. After all Creative couldn't anticipate Vista problems when making older devices (Vista wouldn't have been on hand to test at the time).
BTW Firmware upgrades can be found here (UK version)
or here. (US)

• FIX: Zen Micro Installer Error - "DemoShield Player has encountered an error.

I just thought I'd post a solution to a problem I was having with the Zen Micro Explorer software installation because it might help someone else. Also, this forum is well indexed by search engines so it will be easy for people to find. It took me well over an hour to track this down.
After starting the Zen Micro Explorer Installer CD, a full screen splash is shown of the creative logo and then DemoShield is started for the software install. It shows an intro screen where you must click 'Next,' on clicking next the DemoShield program was crashing with the generic Windows error "DemoShield encountered an error..." The problem appears to be a software conflict between DemoShield and Apple's QuickTime (any version as far as I know). Disabling the QuickTime startup entry does not help, installing in Safe Mode does not help and exiting any instance of QT in the system tray does not help either.
To fix the problem you must un-install the QuickTime software from your computer by going through the Add/Remove Programs screen in the Control Panel. Once un-installed, run the Creative installer CD again, this time it will run correctly. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the install.
<i>Please note that if you have installed iTunes on your system it will not run while QuickTime is uninstalled, this is normal. Re-installation of QuickTime is covered later in this post.</i>
When you have completed the install and restarted your computer you can re-install QuickTime. At the time of writing (4th Sept 2005) QuickTime and iTunes are bundled in one download package so you must download both. You can <a href='http://www.apple.com/QuickTime/download/' target=_blank>get the bundle here. Let it download and run the installer. If you already have iTunes installed, the installer will 'Repair' your installation, detecting that QT is missing it will re-install. If you do not have iTunes the installer will installer iTunes and QuickTime.
When you have completed the QuickTime+iTunes install you have got around the DemoShield issue. I hope this of use to anybody with a similar problem.Message Edited by PhilM on 09-5-2005 02:30 AM

Hi Jeremy,
I knew it was an issue with QuickTime because I clicked on 'Send Error Report' on the error message and it took me to <a href='http://oca.microsoft.com/en/response.aspx?SGD=0b73e24-7433-4ee-ac4c-49956d08c85c&SID=623' target=_blank>this page. It states "An analyst at Microsoft has investigated this problem and determined that an unknown error occurred in QuickTime Player. This software was created by Apple Computer, Inc.."
My QuickTime version is 7.0.2. My operating system is WIndows XP Home (Athlon 64; 52Mb RAM)
Eventually I just tried uninstalling QuickTime and it wroked after I did that. Some screenshots: <a href='http://www.phantomphil.co.uk/ZM/' target=_blank>Click
The contents of my disk.id file reads:
Creative Zen Micro
ZENM-CDSD-W-LB
Hope this hel
ps.

• Zen Micro Installation help...please

I just got a 5 gig Zen Micro. All was well until I attempted to install the program in the computer, which led to "Error code -600", which told me to clear my temp folder and check my internet connections. I have a cable connection, windows XP, and Norton antivirus. Does this have anything to do with my problem? If not, what am I doing wrong?
please, someone, help. I'm about to ritually disassemble my micro.
thanks and happy holidays
-CmF

ok i found the problem.
after a few hours of googling i found that the error is caused by an outdated version of windows installer.
to fix this problem on your computer find the folder
C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield
and rename it to
C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield-old
and then run your install again that should fix your problem

• Zen Micro - copying WMA files with DRM using WM

I have Windows 98SE and Windows Media Player 9. I was wondering, if I get a Zen Micro, will I be able to use WMP 9 to copy DRM-protected WMA files to my device, or do I have to use the Creative software? I read in another post something about the 2.x branch of the firmware being needed for Plays For Sure compatibility -- does this mean I would need this firmware to use WMP? Does the 2.x firmware have the fixes for the battery drain problem, etc.
One more question. With my Muvo TX FM, Windows Explorer recognizes it as a removable dri've, and I can drag-and-drop non-DRM MP3s directly to it. Is this possible with the Zen Micro?
Thanks,
Huck

• Zen Micro Firmware problems ***FIXED

Like many of you I had the problem of updating my firmware, only to have it fail and then read "Firmware error" when you try to restart the device. The end result is what appears to be a dead Zen Micro and the PC cannot recoginze it. Well with the help of SSR I finally fixed the problem.
** Please note I am using Windows XP Pro with Service Pack 2 installed
"Firmware error"
The way to fix it is simple. Download and reinstall Windows Media Player 0. I already had it installed, but I reinstalled it anyway. Then go into your Device Manager and right click on your !Creative Zen Mirco and update the drivers. The system will now find the new drivers (MTP?MPT?) and you have connectivity with your Zen again.
Now you'll want to rollback the firmware to .0. You can try to do 2.2 but it will fail every time because the device thinks you already have it, and overriding it will result in "firmware update failed".
Once you have .0 installed again, you can then update the firmware to 2.2.
After it is installed, take out the battery and boot into recovery mode. Choose REBOOT as your option and nothing else. This will rebuild the file library and complete your firmware upgrade.
Now you have a Zen Micro 2.2 that your COMPUTER will detect but your software will not. That said, you need to go to the download section and download the following software.
Creative Zen and NOMAD Jukebox plugin 2.00.20 for Creative MediaSource (<FONT color=#222222 size=><B>9.72 MB</B>)
Creative MediaSource Player/Organizer 3.30.2
Creative Zen Micro Media Explorer Web Update
Creative MediaSource Plugin for PlaysForSure devices (version .00.8)
I reccomend installing then each one at a time, then rebooting as the system says and moving on to the next one.
When you are all finished, plug in your Zen Micro and it should be working. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Since then My pc does not recognize my zen!!
When I look at my info in the zen it says it has 2.2.02 installed.
I have tried the following already:
) Install firmware ..0 -> Did not work because it says: please attach zen.
2) ReInstall MediaPlayer 0 -> Did not work... still: "no machine attached".
3) Go to device manager and update driver -> Here it can see the zen and i updated the driver, but still..when I try to update the firmware back to ..0 it says: please attach zen.
PLEASE HELP!!!
Best regards,

Just to eliminate one possibility: do you have Windows XP with Service Pack or 2 and Windows Media Player 0 installed on your computer? The reason I ask is that Version 2.x firmware will not work with other versions of Windows or WMP.

• Zen Micro "Firmware Problem" - One solution and what to do BEFORE it happ

My Zen Micro 6GB recently croaked with the dreaded "firmware problem" message. After a call to support, I was told to send it in, however I was later able to connect to the unit and download new firmware.
Here's what happened:
In the middle of a playlist, the unit froze, displaying "firmware problem."
- I took the battery out and powered up in recovery mode, then tried both reboot and reforomat. No luck; Still got "firmware problem."
- I downloaded firmware updates, thn connected the unit to my laptop, which does not have MTP media explorer installed. The laptop does have Yahoo Music Engine and Windows Media 0, both of which are used regularly to copy music to device.
- The computer recognized the Zen Micro, but the firmware update did not run, saying it could not connect to the device.
- Retried several times, after reformatting, etc.
Now, here's what seemed to fix it
- Let the battery drain completely while in the unit
- Connected the Zen Micro to a computer with the MTP media explorer already installed. This is a system that is also used to regularly download music to the device.
- Allowed the battery to charge for an hour
- Started MTP media explorer, noticed that device went into "Recovery Mode"
- Ran the firmware upgrade and it installed.
This is conjecture, but it seems that the MTP media explorer must be running to launch the firmware upgrade, but you can't install MTP without a valid device connected. I don't know why this is - maybe some kind of copy protection scheme. I only had it installed on one of my computers because it seemed unnecessary and I hate loading software that I'm not going to actually use.
This is what worked for me. Hope it works for you.
I'm still really disappointed with Creative's warranty terms, lack of phone support past 60 days and failure of tech support to recognize the problem and offer a solution, but my unit is working again and I didn't have to send it back!

By "MTP media explorer", do you mean the MTP/PlaysForSure version of Zen Micro Media Explorer? The earlier versions say "(for MTP devices)"; the latest ones say "(for PlaysForSure devices)". Or do you mean the Microsoft "MTP icon" in My Computer, which should appear on all MTP-capable systems (including your laptop)?
I don't really think it's a DRM or copy protection issue; I think the "firmware problem" is wiping out the hardware code the firmware installer uses to confirm that the device is indeed a Micro instead of, say, an iRi'ver. I suspect ZMME is one of the alternate means it uses to confirm that a Micro is connected. (An issue for further testing is whether ZMME should be launched or just installed.) Firmware fails on all kinds of devices; I suspect this is just a peculiarity of Creative's MTP/Janus firmware installer.
This is likely to be a significant issue for the FAQs and/or Creative knowledge base. With a growing number of MTP/Janus players in the Creative lineup (Sleek, MicroPhoto, and shortly Touch & Xtra), it probably won't be just a Micro issue in the future.
Edit: I just read the other thread, and they seem to solve it by going to a system without Creative software and installing the ..0 firmware. So there seems to be two solutions for now:
If you don't have any Creative software installed, reload firmware and run the ..0 upgrade. (If you need 2.x firmware, then install the Creative jukebox driver and run the 2.20.05 upgrade; you can uninstall the driver afterwards. Sorry, but some of us need 2.x firmware.)</LI>
If you have the 2.x ZMME installed, open it, then reload firmware and run the 2.20.05 upgrade.</LI>

• Zen Micro Install Problems -- H

Hello All,
I just got my Zen Micro yesterday and I've been up all night trying to get the thing working so please bear with me.
The problem that I'm having is I install the software from the CD it says that installation is complete but every time I connect the Micro to the computer the found new hardware icon comes up but then the found new hardware wizard runs and wants me to install the software again. I've read hundreds of post regarding this problem and have tried a lot of the suggestions given but still no luck. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the software more times than I can remember right now also with no luck.
Key Points
Firmware version is .02.05
When I connect the Micro there is no docking screen it goes straight to now playing.
It does show up in device manager and when I double click on it the following is displayed:
This device is not configured correctly. (Code )
To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver
I click on reinstalled driver and again the found new hardware wizard starts I tell I'll fine the driver myself but when I look in the creative folder there is nothing there. I click on the driver tab and it tells me
Driver Provider - Unkonwn
Driver Date - Unavaliable
Driver Version - Not Avaliable
Digital Signer - Not digitally Signed
I click on the details tab and get the following which I have no idea what it means.
USB\VID_04E&PID_4E\00525503908B
I've tried running both WMP 0 and Zen Media explorer and both tell me there is no device connected.
Whew I'm pooped
My only option at this point is to take it back to Circuit City and get another one but I'm affriad the same thing might happen.
Any help would be greatly apreciated.
Thanks.

Hi! Returning it isn't the solution you are right.
First you might want to clean the disk and reboot it. You do that by shutting it off. Take off the battery back slide the battery out then put it back in and hold the on button on for a few seconds and a
reboot screen will come one. has a clean disk, reboot. I would do that first.
If you want to use a download service for music other than napster you need to upgrade your
firmware. I wanted it for real rhapsody so chose the play for sure download. Had a little trouble
getting it to recognize the machine but it did.
You also need to check the device manager. Right click My Computer, left click properties, check
device manager to make sure the Micro is in the USB bus ports with no problem.
If there is a problem you might click on it and make sure the device is enabled.
I love mine now that i've gone through the installation hassles. Great sound easy to use.
Just not easy to get started.

• Zen Micro - TouchPad problem and 2 suggest

Hi all,
i've bough Zen Micro just a week ago, and it works well with the standard song inside it.
then, installed the CD, upgrade all by support download and also upgrade the firmware.
When i've unplugged USB my touchpad seems not responding, also the power button. the only method to turn off it is removing the battery. -.-"
the only think that works are the volume (just up and down, but not click) and the hold on position. the other think outside the pad seems works well, it can connect to PC, can delete file, and so on.
i just put it without battery some days and when try to re-use, it works perfectly!
now i've upgrade the firmware to .0 and go back to the official released avaiable, and that happens again! but now also the volume pad don't work at all...
I think that it's only a software problem, but i can't reboot the player because my pad don't works !!!
but when i insert the battery and press the hold on the rescue menu appears, but the same button don't work for turn the zen off.
What can i do ?
Can have the 4 safety menu option via software? (suggest)
oh another stupid think, OT : when register in creative support, plz make the text box with the term of use readonly, because i can delete all the condition and press AGREE, so i think i virtually have no condition
sorry for my bad english,
regards

Lord_Dalamar wrote:

If the controls aren't working in Rescue Mode the player is faulty unfortunately. You need to contact Creative Support.

• Zen Micro Installation P

Hi,
I have a Zen Micro and am currently away and would like to play my zen through my friends laptop. However, my installation cd is at home and I can't find it on the download page (unless i don't know what i'm doing !).
Can someone post a link to the installation or point me in the right direction ?\
cheers pezza

Hi Pezza,
You didn't mention which firmware you have on the player, check that first.
If it's version .x - get these files from our Downloads page, and install them in the same order as listed:
Creative Zen and Jukebox Driver Upgrade version .30.03 - JB3MV2_PCWDRV_US__30_03.EXE
Creative MediaSource Player/Organizer 3.30.2 - CMS_PCAPP_LB_3_30_2.exe
Creative Zen and NOMAD Jukebox plugin 2.00.20 for Creative MediaSource - CMS_PJB3_PCApp_LB_2_00_20.exe
If the firmware is version 2.x, then you can get the second file from that list (MediaSource), and get this plugin:
Creative MediaSource Plugin for PlaysForSure devices (version .00.8) - CMS_PCMTP_LB__00_8.exe
And Windows Media Player 0 from Microsoft's site.
You can get all the blue updates from our Downloads page, just select the Zen Micro in the list and it will show you all the files that are available.

• ZEN MICRO detection problems / recognition problems 9

For the life of me I can't figure this out. My brother bought a Zen micro a few days ago and we tried to install it but the comp WILL detect the ZM but will not/can not find a driver. Thus "?!Creative Zen Micro" appears in the Device manager under "? Other Devices" but will not work. Have read and tried alot, but nothing. Using an old Celeron 900MHz with Windows 98SE. Did many fresh installs from install disk....but nothing. Even tried a diff USB cable (though longer) and diff USB port....but nothing. The comp detects the Zen Micro (as named above) but is unable to find the drivers eventhough when requested I direct the detection to the Install disk for any drivers it may contain. Any knowledge shared would be appreciated.Message Edited by microscan on 02-06-2006 06:40 AM
