Zen Micro is Just Jam

I really love my Zen Micro but i am stuck trying to find a way to get my micro to work. It does not work when it is charged all it does is read CREATIVE and it will not do anything eles. I dont know what to do if anyone can help please do so.
It is not recognized when I plug it in to the USB port it keeps reading that the player is not plugged in and it is. I know it is not the port because i do use it for my digital camera, and i have been using my zen for about 3 months now so i know that the software and drivers are installed correctly.
thanks for all your time.

  • Zen Micro Problem -- Just TRY and figure this one out

So, I never dropped my zen micro, never played soccer with it, never sent it to the moon. It's possible someone else has, and isn't fessing up to it, but all I know is I came home one day to find a non-working Zen Micro.
The symptoms: I can charge batteries, I can make it glow blue by plugging it in. If it's running just off battery it gets to the CREATIVE screen and just stays there until the battery dies. If it's plugged in, it does the same thing but glows blue.. and doesn't die.
I CAN go into recovery mode, but none of the options do anything [well, restart does.. it takes me back to the CREATIVE screen]. The other ones keep formatting and whatnot forever, which is a good indication it just froze as soon as I pressed format.
I also tried to plug it in, and format it off my computer as a removable disk, but unfortunately neither my computer nor my friends is picking up the Zen Micro as a removable disk and placing it on the My Computer tray.
If anyone has any advice, if anyone has seen this type of thing before, etc etc, please share.
    Desperately seeking help,
    Music Anonymous

You'll need to call Creative's support phone line so that they can give you an RMA number for your player. Then, just ship it to the address they tell you.

  • Zen Micro Owners, just how many of these things have fatal proble

Here and elseware, I have been reading on the Zen Micro and have seen endless lists of people who've had problems with them (in many cases right out of the box). This thread is intended as a sort of roll call for those who've had major problems vs. those who haven't (who you tend to hear from less), to see sort of what my odds are or whatever.
    Thanks.

Had problems with first one, did the "Reload Firmware" command - it would never be recognized by any computer again. Replaced by Amazon. #2 player did well for about 4 weeks, one day was working fine, turned it off. Turned it back on, and it would work only on power cord, not on battery. Bought a new battery from Amazon - did not work. Bought player #3 from Best Buy with $30 two year replacement policy (would never have bought another one without this assurance). It works fine so far (2 weeks) - and even more interestingly, a fully charged battery from the working unit will not in any way work in the broken one, so it is definitely NOT a battery problem with player #.
So I have a dead Zen 40 days out - and will have to call Creative tomorrow, thank God that one is still in the 90 days. I would never buy another MP3 player of any brand mail-order, without a replacement policy. I don't care what anyone says, they are very temperamental gadgets.

  • Creative zen micro working with itunes.

for i long time i have been using the musiclibrary organisation tool provided by creative... and i have been satisfied...
but last week i discovered itunes... for all i know itunes was originally for apple products only (such as the ipod)... but i read various articles concerning this topic... and i found out that some people believe that it is possible to work with itunes and the zen mico... and here is the point: "How can i tell itunes to work with my great player zen micro?"
just to make sure that there is no offense... i liked the creative tool very much, but from my point of view itunes has got a tiny lead in inconsiderable details...
so i'm counting on your help... hoping to get an answer soon... jok3r

    Zach,
Have you try the legacy driver in this post before with WMP9? Although the Micro Photo player isn't listed in the list, other forum member has posted success with the driver so if you haven't try it yet might as well give it a try.

  • Zen Micro Firmware Upgrade 1.01.03: Problems when Downloading and Installing the Upgr

Yesterday I downloaded the new firmware upgrade .0.03 to my computer without problems. I then attempted to open the upgrade and initiate transfer to my Zen Micro unit through my USB 2.0 cable. I kept getting a dialog box, informing me that there was an interference problem... So I shut down my Norton anti-virus and my Zone Alarm firewall, and tried again, and again, and again. I was unable to initiate the transfer program...
I was about to contact you this evening for advice, but I decided to first switch my USB cable to another connector and try one more time. Surprise! It worked... A rather long connection, but the upgrade is now in my Zen Micro unit, just where it's needed...
I've had my USB cable connected to what I believe is a USB 2.0 connection on my computer, and I often see the "not connected" dialog box. Each time this happens, I disconnect the cable from the Zen Micro unit, then reconnect it... Bells and whisltes sound, and I'm connected again, until a few minutes later I get the "not connected" dialog box yet again... Is this a normal procedure?
Now, tonight I plugged the USB cable into what I've always considered to be a slower USB connection point... Mybe that's why the transfer took so long? But it stays connected indefinitely... no "not connected" dialog box.
I've been having other transfer problems through the USB 2.00 connection point. I downloaded 23 tracks to my Zen Micro yesterday afternoon, and three of the tracks didn't make it... Frustrating as hell...
I'd appreciate any comments from my peers, since everyone here has more experience than me...
    kooch

    koochiching,
Try turning off the Media Sniffer feature from MediaSource and try updating the firmware again.

  • Zen Micro freezed when syncing, now freezes when trying to reload or upgrade firmw

Got a Zen Micro, firmware 2..02
I started having problems syncing with my home PC, which uses XP SP2 with Windows Media Player . Trying to sync resulted in a freezed WMP an, after a while returned an error saying it couldn't communicate with Zen Micro or just showed that all the files to be transfer had been stopped.
Tried to sync in my office, XP SP2 with with Windows Media Player 0. It worked a bit better: could transfer files, but the speed of the transfers was unusually slow for USB 2.0. It ended with the WMP freezed and, after a while, all the files I use for testing where in the player.
In both computers, when the WMP freezed, the signal in the player remained with the lines in black, as if it was still communicating. I had to disconnected the player, disregarding the signal, which remained even with the player disconnected from the PC. When powered up the startup process ended in the "Creative" screen staying on forever, I had to remove the battery, go to recovery mode, Reboot the player and, after a library rebuilding it worked.
Read some threads and thoght that reloading the firmware would help. But the sign "erasing firmware" doesn't dissapear in my player's screen. I gave up after 2 hours. At that point, my player starting showing a "firmware error" at startup and going to the recovery screen every time it is powered up.
Tried to upgrade firmware. It gave a "player not connected" error using my home PC (WMP ) but not in my office (WMP 0). I try to "re-upgrade" to 2..02 but it returned a "failed to upgrade firmware" error (after a few minutes with the window freezed) and the player remained in "communicating" status (black lines in the screen's icon). Try then to "downgrade" to last .xx firmware version available, but the operation hangs after the "format completed successfully" message, with only two bars in the progress indicator, and it stays like this for a very long time (tried for 30 minutes), still with the communication black-lines-in-icon status.
If I try to re-run the firmware upgrade inmediately, it says "your player is not connected, please reconnect your player", as it is still in "communicating" status. I have to take battery out and reinsert it to be able to restart the firmware proess.
Any suggestions? I'm really restricted to not to send the player to Creative Customer Service, as it has just finished it warranty period and I'm nowadays in Argentina, from where the post cost would be huge.

  • Zen micro headphone ja

iv had two zen micros, my first had to be retruned because of the headphone jack was faulty, the sound would cut out and become destorted, slightly annoying, i have another one it seems to be ok so far but it did have some fireware problems but it fixed then itself, i want to know if this problem of the headphone jack comming loose is a problem for all zen micros or just a one off, i love the play its so much better then the ipod but let down as i feel it was a little rushed with all the problems that people were discovering

Hello -I am sending my player in for fixing / replacing because of the now infamous audio jack issue. (I gotta say it happened so soon after purchasing that I am very disappointed in this device)
But moving right along, I have a few other gripes I am hoping someone else can confirm / comment on...
. I noticed that I loose one full bar when the player is stopped during the night, for example. Is this happening to everyone?Does anyone know if a way to completely shut the player down (as opposed to the regular shut down where it seems the player remembers what song it was playing. I can only imagine that this is what eats the battery
    2. has anyone noticed that when the player is shut down, juggling the audio jack connection starts the player? I swear it happens on mine all the time...
    3. more of a long term question: when I imported a bunch of mp3 files, I choose to use the folder structure as artist / album when importing. Well - it did not work...(what a surprise). Is this working for you folks?
    thanksTP

  • I have a ZEN Micro and ZEN sleek, can I use the same softwa

    Yes.

  • Creative Zen Micro: Error copying m

    Hi,
My Creative Zen Micro is just a day old and after transferring 20 MP3s it says error on every following track i want to transfer.
The first 20 Songs were copied but then I cant transfer any more, no matter which one i choose.
can anybody help me with this problem?

Can you try a disk cleanup on the player. To run a Disk Cleanup you need to access the Rescue Mode on the Zen Micro. To access the Rescue Mode: remove the battery, hold the power switch to the "on" position and KEEP IT HELD TO "ON" while reinserting the battery. Choose Disk Cleanup from the menu. Note: Disk cleanup should not remove your tracks. It searches through the disk for files and rebuilds the index, and can be useful for correcting any strange behaviour.
Failing that, what firmware version are you using, and what software to copy?

  • Zen Micro Media Connection Prob

I have a zen micro, I just updated the firmware so nothing is currently on my Zen. I went to import music to my zen with the Zen Micro Media Explorer, and it says my device is not connected. Now, my computer recognizes the device because it shows up as connected under my computer and I can import music that way, but its much easier and faster if I was able to use the Media Explorer and that is not working. Any suggestion? Thanks

Did you also update to a newer version of the Media Explorer?

  • MY Zen Micro probl

[color="#ff6600" face="Comic Sans MS">I have a Black 4gb Zen Micro and some things have happened. Sure, I dropped it once or twice, but this time, I wasn't quite so lucky. It landed on the face and it froze and?would not stop?clicking. I tried a clean up, reload, etc. I've tried hitting it in multiple places with multiple forces and i've gotten nothing from it still. I took it to Fry's where?I got it and they would only give me a fraction of the price because they no longer carry it. If someone has some form of helpful information I would be ever so grateful. Thanks.

Many reported this type of battery life issue when the Zen Micros were first released, prompting Creative to release an update to it's firmware that is supposed to address this issue.
In answer to your question, Firmware is essentially the "Operating System" for the Zen Micro. Just like Microsoft releasing updates to Windows to fix bugs, improve performance, etc.... Creative released Firmware updates to fix bugs, improve performance, add additional Windows Media Player 0 support, etc.
I've downloaded both Firmware updates found at http://us.creative.com/support/downloads/download.asp , and have had great success overall. Others have reported that their battery li'ves improved after the upgrade, while a few have reported similar behavior. The best thing to do is install the update, and see how it works for you. It's free, and is a great improvement in my book.

  • My Zen Micro is freezing - help!!

I have had my zen micro for just over a year and have had no problems so far. Tried to turn it on this am but it froze on the creative logo - couldn't turn it off or on. Took the battery out and rebooted it but no joy.
I tried to perform a clean up but it just say scan disk but no progress after 45 mins.
I tried to format and again nothing seemed to happen after 45 mins.
So i tried to download the firmware and the computer is not recongnising the MP3 Player therefore i cannot do anything.
    Any ideas??

<FONT face=Century size=2>I hope I'm not late on this!!! But I just posted a thing too about this. Dude!!! I have the <EM>exact </EM>same problem!!!
<FONT face=Century size=2>I just wana hear my music!:smileytongue: But I first had the regular Zen mp3 thingy I already forgot what it was called. I never dropped it or anything it just froze up on me one day. I went out to eat, turned it off, once we left I tried to turn it back on and nothing! I had to exchange it for a new one so I just got the Zen Micro. So many problems! hah I was doing good for about a couple of months from january until now!!! I've tried everything, recovery mode, I try to plug it in my comp to recharge the battery, nothing!!! It froze while charging usually the light pulses and the battery sign flashes but it all froze. (including the light!) I don't know what else I should do. I already emailed but I really don't want to have to exchange it...again!!!! I don't think <FONT color=#3333ff>Cre<FONT color=#ffcc66>ati've brand likes me. But since it's sunday, I'm going to try and call tomorrow. But usually what do they do with these types of situations? Do they tell you to send it to them to fix it or give you a new one or do I go and return it from where I bought it's It was actually my x-mas gift :smileytongue: taking more time to repair than to listen to.

  • Zen Micro: Bricked or just lame, you dec

    Hi all,
I have a zen micro which i flashed to the old .0 non MTP firmware to have support with winamp. Anyway i decided i wanted MTP support so i tried to flash it and it got stuck on a stage "Please reboot device". I decided to switch it off myself by removing battery and it went on but i felt like it wasnt set up properly.
Anyway i went on to boot into the bootloader and select reload firmware however it went for like second then stopped and said load new firmware.
I plugged it into my PC and both of the creative apps say :Your Player is not connected, please connect ur player.
So i rolled back to wmp0 and no result, it stilll comes up as a MTP device. I think im boned.
    Suggestions?
    Thanks
    Julius

Can you mention if you're charging through the AC adaptor (on a wall plug) or through USB from a computer? AC adaptor is better (faster).
What you're describing (totally drained in one night, after switching off with or 2 bars on battery indicator) is at the least unusual, and may indicate malfunction.
Now, if you have some time left before the deadline until which you can exchange in the store, then I suggest you just test this some more. Then you can make an informed decision.
Charge the battery fully (at least 4 hours on AC adaptor). Afterwards, start playing random songs (preferably MP3 constant bitrate 28 kbps) continuously. See if you get ? 2 hours playing time. (without EX, without Smart Volume, without fast forward, ... ). That'll tell you how the battery performs on playing.
Then for the apparent draining, you'll have to just collect some more experience.
It may be that the battery indicator is just not calibrated correctly yet, because it's the first days of use. For calibrating, it's good to FULLY discharge and recharge the battery. On normal use, a Lithium-Ion battery will li've longer when recharged often (so not fully discharged at every use). But for battery indicator calibration, you want to discharge the battery fully let's say once per month or so. (see www.batteryuni'versity.com)
    good luck.
