Zen Micro is this a MP3 player or just a major heada

I am running winxp sp2 and the zen micro does not work. now my system won't recognize the ****ed micro. I shows up under the USB device list but it won't work. wait..thats a lie, it worked for 20 minutes and gave me a error after synching 45 songs. I think I should have gotten my son a IPOD.. Does anyone know what I can do to get this to work? No one replied to my last message.. BTW, I tried following your knowledge base.. but it like the micro is doomed to be chucked. Oh.. I can't even upgrade the firmware.. it doesn't recognize the mp3. and before anyone else says, try another port.. I did all my ports work but the mp3 player does not...

Did you try the hotfixes as well? Also, try a different computer to see if its the player, or your pc.

• Creative Zen vision M 30 GB MP3 player does not resp

My Creative Zen vision M 30 GB MP3 player stopped working. It does not turn on, does not charge, does not respond to anything. Is the battery dead or what would be the problem. Please help.

There are a multitude of problems that could be causing your player to exhibit this behavior in addition to battery failure, including the failure of the main logic board. If the player has been dropped a few times, exposed to excessi've heat, or high humidity/water, the problem might not be the battery. On the other hand, if the battery has been allowed to fully exhaust on a regular basis and left uncharged for long periods, it is possible that the battery could be dead, but LIon batteries usually last at least 2-3 years with regular use and normal recharging practices if they haven't been abused.

• ZEN Micro and MTP with Media Player

Every product review I read about the ZEN Micro says something about the player supporting MTP and working with Windows Media Player 0's Autosync feature. Well, my ZEN Micro does NOT have MTP! Is there a special way to enable it that I am missing?

Perhaps the reviews are wrong?...
It has been said that MTP support is coming for the Touch and the Xtra.

• Anyway to turn the Zen Micro into a 'simple' MP3 play

Hi,
I'm a budding music composer writting dance music. I've had a 6gb Zen micro now for a couple of weeks, and its really infuriating.
I really dont want it to use MP3 tags. All I want it to do is function simply like the MUVO and previous MP3 players. For instance, if I have a directory containing MP3's and I want to be able to plug it in to the PC, the PC recognise it as a hard dri've, then I just want to drag the folder containing MP3's to it just like a portable harddri've. When I disconect the Zen from the PC, I would like it to just play the MP3's - not resort the file order within the directory using the MP3 tags.
It was simple on the older MP3 players from creative - drag and drop worked perfectly - I could even use the device to move MP3's from one location to another.
I've tried installing all the available firmware versions, but they all seem to use the MP3 tags.
If I cant fix this, then I'm gonna have to get rid of it - which is a shame, because apart from this really annoying 'feature' its quite a nice player.
Also - the device isn't recognised by MAC's - and I really dont want to have to carry the software CD around with me to achieve this.
Does anyone have any answer to these problems ?
Yours hopefully,
Toneski.

The Micro only works by tags, unfortunately. There was a petition on here some time ago to support both tag and file-based sorting, you might want to add your name to that.
There are some pretty nifty tagging programs out there that will fill in the tags based on the folders and file names, which make re-tagging pretty easy. But if you don't want that hassle, you'll have to find another mp3 player I'm afraid. There are other Creative players that are file/folder based, but I'm not familiar with all of them. I'm sure someone here can tell you exactly which ones will work for you.

• BETA - Creative Zen Micro PlaysForSure with Windows Media Player 10 Update 2.10

I realise this has been talked about before, but...
I installed Creative Zen Micro *PlaysForSure/MTP Firmware 2.00.2 a couple of times and I had trouble syncing tracks. Formatting and Cleaning Up didn't work, before you ask. So i downgraded to previous firmware. I was wondering whether any users who had this problem installed the Beta firmware and found it was OK, because I know I can't downgrade from a Beta release so I wanted to ask before I installed it.

I would imagine that there are people around who would answer YES, and some that would answer NO to your question.
But given what appears to be a large number of people who have troubles with that BETA firmware (esp when used with Napster to go), I would suggest you don't try that BETA firmware unless :
- you have a high stress level,
- you don't mind the risk of turning your Micro useless for a few weeks
- you feel a strong need to take whatever risk to solve whatever problems you have now.
-- just saying ;-)

ps.
I have tried this about 00 times and it works every time.
Start playing a song.
Press Pause - as you would normally do.
now press the BUMP between Play and FF (right bump).
The song will now STOP. it is not paused the pause icon disappears and the player stops spinning. the time counter on the song resets to zero.
Try it out and post your results. The left bump between rew/play does nothing for me, just the other one....Message Edited by ccbm on 03-03-2005 06:43 AM

GPL: Done like dinner! Returned it yesterday to the store I bought it from! They were cool as hell about it even after two months since I bought my first one original one! Gave me a full refund of $455.05 and then I decided to try out a Sony for 30 days (359.99 for the Sony/paid 333.99 for the Micro!). For 26 bucks more, I got a whole lotta more player. If I don't like it, I'll return it too and wait for Creative to fix the troubles, but so far I love it (it has a battery OFF switch too). Maybe come back and get a Zen Micro Photo!
Here I posted about it yesterday:

I gonna send the case to Fdreinthea like I said I would if I got a new case.

• Problem with Creative Zen Nano Plus 1 GB mp3 player please r

I bought zen nano plus? month ago and while i was transfering music into it it crashed ,? it looked like its no more readable so i disconected it from my pc , it needed format , i did format and tried to transfer some music again but the same problem appeared . I thought the memory card of the player is damaged and needs to be changed or repaired? , i gave it to customer support and after a few days they said they installed newer software version to the player , well i thought it will fix the problem . Once i got home i tried to transfer music and it crashed again , i couldnt even format it cause when i plug in the mp3 F: ( usb dri've ) does not respond. I gave the mp3 to customer support again , they filled up the mp3 with music six times and everything worked fine. But at home it still crashes while transfering , so i dont know what to think . On the packet where the mp3 was when i bought is written WORKS WITH WINDOWS VISTA ,?currently i have windows xp ,? can it be that i can only transfer music without prloblems with windows vista ? can it be that zen nano plus is created to use with windows vista ? Thanks for reading !

Did you install the driver on your PC? If not, then do it. Try reformatting the player as FAT. Next try tranferring a few folders full of mp3 files. Use windows explorer to drag and drop the folders? with files to the player. Now see if the player will play them.

• Zen Micro Freezing While Play

My Zen Micro is my second MP3 player. My first one was a 2.5 GB Rio Nitrus. It was everything I needed it to be until it started acting funny. It froze up a few times while playing. Then I went on vacation and a week later when I got back and tried to use it, it froze again only this time it wouldn't restart correctly. I'm worried that I might be coming into a similar problem with my Zen Micro. It has never frozen until today. I hadn't used it in a week, similar to what happened when my Nitrus went on me. It paused for about 20 seconds when I was running on the treadmill, and then later, it completely froze. The only thing I could do to reset it was take the battery out of the back. It appears to be fine now but it has me worried. Is there anyone who owns a Zen and experienced similar problems and should this be something I worry about? It especially ticked me off today because I just spent $20 last night for a new holster and belt clip for it. Anyone have any input?Message Edited by diesel6304 on 0-06-2006 08:29 PM

It might be because you were running on the treadmill and you experienced "head crash", where the heads reading the HDD inside your Micro hit the HDD itself. Best to not do that. I use it on the treadmill, but I only powerwalk on the treadmill......
Oh yeah, in addition, it's normal every now and then for it to freeze (okay, not normal normal, but unless it's doing it regularly, it's not really that much to worry about). I would suggest running a disc cleanup from the recovery mode.Message Edited by RMskater on 0-06-2006 0:53 PM

• Zen Micro Rev

I just got my Zen Micro yesterday. Bought it on eBay because I specifically wanted the Dark Blue color with the extra battery. Cost was $260 shipped and it arri'ved in three days.
I had researched getting a new MP3 player ever since my Zen Xtra fell victim to the dreaded headphone jack problem. I've sent it back to Creative for repair and will probably give it to my gf now that I have my Zen Micro.
Prior to purchasing, I looked at several MP3 players. The most important factors for me are size, sound quality, price, and features. I like the Zen Xtra but barely used 4gb of space and it was fairly bulky and heavy. I considered the iPod as a friend of mine loves his and recommended it to me. Although the controls are intuiti've and the sound is decent, I balked at the price. With the iPod Mini starting at $300 for only 4gb of space lack of additional features, I really didn't even consider it. I checked out and even bought the Sandisk G model with the FM tuner. Extremely tiny, good sound quality, and priced at only $59 after rebates. Still, the space was extremely limiting even more my needs and I returned it.
As it turned out, the Zen Micro was the perfect fit for me. It had the features I wanted and was fairly priced in my opinion. Here's my thoughts on the different aspects of the player:
Cosmetic
Quite simply, it's the best looking player I've ever seen. Small but not tiny, it fits perfectly in the palm of your hand. The case that comes with it so you can attach the stand or belt clip does make it a little thicker but not that much. The most impressi've looking thing is how the player pulsates a soft, blue light when it is charging. A little ominous but it gives it a real hi-tech feel.
Sound Quality
I'm not an audiophile but I can appreciate good sound. For such a small player, the Micro deli'vers excellent sound quality. I think the max volume is 25 but for me 2 is more than enough. The headphones are pretty good considering they are stock. I've played around with a few of the EX settings and found Pop to sound the best. Haven't tried the custom setting so I can't report on that yet. Overall, very impressed with the sound quality.
Functionality
Having had a Creative player in the past, the interface was fairly easy to pick up. Still, this is probably the weakest part of the Micro. The touchpad takes some getting used to. I'm getting better at it but even at the least sensiti've setting I've had problems. However, I think that this will actually help the Micro become more user friendly. Once you get used to the touchpad, it is a very easy method for maneuvering through the various menus. The one thing I would have liked to have is a dedicated volume control. You can use the touchpad to adjust the volume while your listening to the player but there is no specific volume button like on the Zen Xtra or other MP3 players I've tried. I guess it's a matter of preference though.
Features
The FM tuner was one of the selling points. The reception isn't too bad where I'm at. I can get all the stations that I like to listen too although the sound quality isn't as great as a dedicated FM tuner. Still, it's a handy little feature for me. I still have to test the Outlook organizer feature but that's not something I plan on really using. The ability for the Micro to become a USB storage device is an outstanding feature. You basically have a portable storage device and can dedicate up to 2gb of space to store files. I've tested the feature on several computers and it works like a charm. Although most users probably won't use their Micro as a portable dri've on a regular basis, it's nice to to have this feature and it's one that I plan on using on a regular basis.
Conclusion
Everything considered, the Zen Micro is the perfect MP3 player for me. It's combination of good lucks, oustanding sound quality, features, and price is hard to beat. I don't know of any other MP3 player that combines everything that I'm looking for. I haven't run into any problems so far but I'm confident that Creative got it right with the Micro. Highly recommend it to anyone looking into a quality MP3 player. I don't think it's an iPod killer like some people have said because frankly, the iPod isn't in the same class.

ERROR IWTH REVIEW:
You mentioned that you cannot tune the radio for youself. You can do so however. Just go to the FM Radio and press the play/pause button. The 'Preset
?' thing will dissappear and then you can just tap the |<< and >>| buttons until you reach the disired frequency

The headphone socket is known to fail.

• Media Player says zen micro is full when it isn

HiI have a creative zen micro and am running media player ... everything works fine with one exception. Media Player says that?then zen has?5.7 gb which is fine but it shows that it is full which it isn't. This can be confirmed by unplugging it from the usb port and checking the memory under system info which confirms there is 5.8 gb with .6 gb free. The removable disk function is not turned on. What can I do to remedy this? Thanks Carl">[email protected] m

Hi and welcome to  Discussions.
Just remember, after you delete something you'll need to empty the trash to recover the space, and for the USB stick it will need to be attached whilst that recovery takes place.

• ZEN Micro - Playing MP3 Probl

Hi ZEN Micro Fans
have a problem I need help for: MP3 music to play on my Zen works in 99% fine - sound is good and now problems. However, some other mp3 files (around 6MB big) with talking (speeches) are played in "slow motion" --> sound is good, but as I said, just sounds like if you had a vinil disk on a player and manually slowing down the disk.
Does anybody have an idea what the nature of my problem could be?
By the way, the same file played on my pc's mp3 player works just fine. I have re copied the same file to my ZEN again and again --> no change, the same behaviour.
Many thanks
Urs

They are probably encoded at kHz, which the Micro (nor any other Creative player) can play.
You'll need to re-encode them to 22 or 44kHz. Try something like dbPowerAMP.

I bought this mp3 player(Zen Xtra 40GB?last year, it worked brilliant for 3 months, after that, I went back to my country for 3 months, when I came back in Oct, I could only switch it on, and after welcome screen, it pop up an reset back stage list for just half sec, then turn to welcome screen again... I took it inside my house(I was using it as my in-car media center) decide to check it out. after few days, it just went dead. no matter press any bottom, or even charging, there is no signs at all... is there any of you have the same problem before? is there any solutions that I could self-repair it's?I am afraid it has ran out its warranty. Are there any third party resellers that are able?to repair it's or it has to be return to Creative support/repairing depot?also how much is it'sgonna charge me for repairing by Creative??Please help me... I love this Creative mp3 player, don't want it just dead like this!!

I dont know maybe your hard dri've died, Try if its possible to update the firmware or reformating to see if it fixes. If anything call Creative if you really like your player you can buy another one or get it fized. Sorry sucks to lose a good MP3 player. I also heard that you should have your device on HOLD to prevent damage I really dont understand why but maybe it will halpe you in the future
