Zen Micro-- July 1st firmware upgr

In creative's newletter I got in my email today, it said that there was a new (as of july st) firmware upgrade for the Zen Micro. I have my Micro at the 2..02 plays for sure firmware right now, and don't know if it would be worth it to upgrade to this new firmware. Any comments?

SSR,
It's details, but I would suggest a bit of a rewrite on the v vs v2 FAQ answer. () the v2 firmware is no longer beta; (2) it could be better to speak of "PlaysForSure Audio Subscription" services (with Napster to go and Yahoo ... as examples.) and perhaps to link to http://www.playsforsure.com/WhatIsPlaysForSure.aspx (even if it's horribly vague).
Respectfully ;-)

  • Zen Micro hanging on firmware upgr

    Hi,
I'm trying to upgrade the firmware on my Zen Micro from .02.05 to ..0, but the application sticks at "Upgrading in progress," for 0-5 minutes until I crash out. The player just shows "Docked" and the in progress black arrows.
Any suggestions on how I can complete the upgrade? Is it advisable to remove the previous firmware using the Reload Firmware option and then run the upgrade application, or will this really mess up my Micro?
    All advice appreciated
    Many thanks

I'm on version 2..02 right now, a hanging when syncing problem led me to reload the firmware but the player hangs. Now I'm getting a "firmware problem" screen when powering up the player.
I tried upgrading to the same version or to .xx.xx last version, but there is a firmware upgrade failed problem or a hanging after "format successfull" problem, respecti'vely.
Reading this thread, tried disabling every program at startup, but the result is the same. Tried in two different computers, with XP SP 2 and windows media player 0 and .
Any suggestion after this? My player is more than year old, so customer support won't listen to me.

  • Zen Micro - Screen Displays "Firmware Probl

As an FYI for those with this issue.
Updated to the new beta firmware upon getting my Zen Micro. After having issues with Napster 2 Go, I got the service transferring the files to the Zen Micro. Listened to the files at night until I got the "Low Battery" message. Plugged it up to charge. Once fully charged, listend from about p til about 7p. The 5 minutes inactivity timer cut off the Zen Micro. Went to turn on the Zen Micro only to have the screen display, "Firmware Problem". I have rebooted, entered rescue mode and did a clean up and reboot, same error. I reloaded the firware to get back into the Zen Micro.

    Meantone,
It would be worth trying a firmware upgrade, if you can, but it sounds like there might be a problem with the player.
I would advise you contact Customer Support directly for assistance.

  • Where can I find older firmware for my Zen Micro? (Also, firmware install troubl

I recently got a Zen Micro for free. It had several problems, most of which I've fixed, or can not fix until I solve this one:
Every time I start up, it gives me an "Overheating, Shutting Down" error. It's not overheating (I drenched the circuitry in circuit-freezer), and the one thermostat chip I could find is working normally. Any clue where others are? CPU, perhaps? (The problem does not occur when hooked up to the USB)
I read something about firmwares .02 and later having an overheat shut-down program integrated into them. So before I give up on this thing, I would like to try firmware .0 or lower.
Of course, the Zen being out for 4+ years, such old firmware is hard to find.
You guys, being Creative people, should know where I could find some. If any of you have any on your computer, could you send it to me?
Also, I tried to install firmware .02.05, but when I load it, the program gives me an error telling me to update my jukebox drivers to the latest version, of which they are. The latest . and P4S firmwares load fine onto the Zen. Help?

MTP is microsoft's media transfer protocol. Essentially, your micro can now connect to WinXP SP2 computers with WMP0 without loading Creative drivers.
The new firmware you installed allows you to drag and drop files to your micro using windows explorer. In order to use any of Creative's software, you'll need to download and install updated versions from their website.

  • Zen Micro defect with Firmware upd

    (Zen Micro version 2.00.2)
I updated my Zen Micro's firmware/drivers/applications the other day and now the player is not detected by creative media source organizer or zen micro media explorer - I have to transfer my songs through Real Player or WMP 0 now. Also, all the song lengths have changed to 8:2:5 long.
I had another problem even before the update - after the player is unlocked, the back arrow does not respond well. It would go to the tracklist then back to now playing. I have to go to the bottom right corner button and "lookup artist" then press back to go back to where I was before I locked it. I don't know if that's just the way the player is designed.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

MediaSource won't work with the 2.00.2 firmware. Best to only upgrade if you are sure you want to use only WMP0.

  • Zen Micro - headphone jack & firmware quest

. my headphone jack is seriously wiggling, producing that static-ky sound that often only comes through one channel. and apparently, many others have the same problem. i am thinking about sending it back to creative for an exchange, but would it be worth it's and how long would that take? in the meanwhile, i have inserted a thin-but-thick-enough slice of plastic so the jack won't jiggle. and it works fine now, but i don't know if i want my micro like this forever.
    2. i want to uninstall the playforsure firmware for wmp0 so that i can just use the original interface, but is the only way to do that (and keep my songs in there) to install ANOTHER download that enables me to use both the original and the upgrade?
    thanx

I recently got a replacement Zen Micro after the headphone jack went on the first one (had to be wiggled to get proper sound...like a contact problem). Anyway, today I got the replacement and it's got a completely different facia on it so I don't if it's a newer revision that may have the headphone jack sorted too. To describe it's got bigger symbols on the touch pad. The back button is now simply an arrow instead of an arrow saying "back" and the menu button features an arrow pointing down instead of at a north-east angle.
I returned mine to Amazon and they had the replacement to me within 5 days. They send it straight away and you don't have to wait for them to recieve the old one first. But then it'll depend where you bought it.

  • Creative Zen Micro PlaysForSure/MTP Firmware 2.00

When installing the new firmware update version 2.00.2 on my Zen Micro, the Zen Micro Explorer and the Creative MediaSource Applications do not recognize the device when it is plugged in. I installed the software Update Package (v.00.) for 'Zen Micro Players with PlaysForSure/MTP Firmware' and I am experiencing the same results. I had to revert the player back to PDE Firmware v.0.03.
Please update forum if experiencing the same thing or have suggestions.

MediaSource won't work with the new v2 firmware, you can only use WMP and the updated version of the Zen Micro Media Explorer. I believe it does say this in the readme associated with the new firmware.

  • Creative ZEN Micro won update firmware

I have Creative ZEN Micro and i cant get it to update i do everything right but it doesnt have enought battery power. and i cant get it to charge. so wat do i do

Try starting the player into Recovery Mode, see if that works:
<EM>Ensure that the Zen Micro is turned off.</EM>
    <EM>Remove the battery.</EM>
<EM>Move and hold the Power button to the Power On position and re-insert the battery to the Zen Micro. Hold the Power button until the rescue mode appears. </EM>
<EM>The following options will be displayed:</EM>
<EM>) Clean Up (Performs a disk scan on the players harddisk)</EM>
<EM>2) Format All (Formats the players harddisk - Note: all contents will be lost)</EM>
<EM>3) Reload OS (Reloads the Operating System on the Jukebox. Note: Reloading your OS, will not effect the contents of the files stored on your Zen Micro) Caution: Do not select this option until a firmware update has been downloaded onto the PC</EM>
    <EM>4) Reboot (Reboots the device).</EM>
If you can get into Recovery Mode, try the Clean Up first.

  • [Zen Micro] Problems with firmware upd

    Hello!
Yesterday I finally received my Zen Micro and I tried to update my firmware, but it didn?t work. I downloaded the file (firmware 2.02.2) from creative.com and nomadworld, but both files didn?t work.
This is what my computer said:
An application is interfering with the flash-program. Close all applications and all explore windows before you continue. - Renew - Close
What does this mean? I closed all running programs and my firewall and anti virus program. Am I doing something wrong?
    Thanks for any help!

Well, I searched the whole forum and I found the answer I was looking for. I had to shut down CTDetect.exe in the Task Manager and it worked!
Thank you for helping SSR, I really appreciate it!

  • ZEN MICRO CONNECTION DETECTION & FIRMWARE PROBLEM! Please help

Last night i installed the new 'plays for sure' firmware for my creative zen micro 4gb. I have windows media player 0 and my system is running service pack 2 by the way.
The firmware installed fine and i went on media player to transfer all my music back onto the player.
This took ages! But it said it was on there ok.
Just to be sure i went into the E dri've- for the first time the player had registered there so i could check everythign went on ok.
All the music was there just fine.
I disconnected it from the PC and turned it on... and it's completely empty! I went to information in the player to check that what i was seeing was true and the player just crashed. The only way to turn it off was to remove the battery.
I have reinstalled the driver and reconnected the player and windows xp does the noise to let me know the player is connected... but it isnt being detected by media player and it doesnt come up in My Computer.
Please help asap!!! Sorry this is a long post!!!

This is the odd part. If you copied to the E dri've you must have copied to the USB mass storage area of the player (the player can be configured with up to 4Gb of USB mass storage that's ONLY for data files). The player should appear as a device in Windows Explorer for the audio part, so copy the files to that, NOT to the E dri've.

  • Zen micro connection and firmware prob

so i have a zen micro and i'm having a problem with it. originally it froze on the creative screen after working fine the last time i turned it on, so i took the battery out and did a clean up and that didnt work so i reformatted it. now it doesnt freeze anymore but when i turn it on it says firmware problem and goes straight to recovery mode. so i tried to hook it up to my computer but my computer doesnt reconize that it is there. i've never had this happen before. i tried hooking it up to another computer that i had never used the player with and it prompted me to install a driver or something but i did not have a cd or the software to install it. i dont think i ever installed any drivers or anything when i originally used the micro on my computer, i just put music on it through windows media player. if anyone has any suggestions please help

    i have the same problem

  • How to install Zen Micro 5GB with firmware 2.00

How? I went to my store, and they said I must use "Sync" in WMP 0... but how ?

I for one don't understand your question... You may want to rephrase and elaborate a bit.
Are you talking about something to install on your PC? It's true that you can use WMP (Windows Media Player) to load music to a Zen Micro with 2.00.2. You could also install the specific version of Zen Explorer (see the download section of Creative.com). You need to get the right version, because the version of Zen Explorer on the CD in the box, only works on .x firmware

You mentioned that you cannot tune the radio for youself. You can do so however. Just go to the FM Radio and press the play/pause button. The 'Preset

Hurrah, i FINALLY got it working.
    Installed drivers/software from original cd.
Downloaded/installed the Creative MediaSource Plugin for PlaysForSure devices (version .00.8) (23.98 MB) and managed to get the 'sync' feature working in WMP0.
Downloaded/installed Creative Zen Micro Media Explorer Web Update (<B>48.24 MB</B>) but it wasn't detecting my Zen.
Went into Device Manager and firstly uninstalled the MTP Device under Windows Portable Devices.
Connected Zen again, went into Device Manager again, right clicked on the MTP device and clicked on Update Driver.
The Zen Micro Media Explorer Web Update then detected my device and installed.

  • Can't Turn Off Zen Micro with V2 Firmware

I just decided to upgrade my firmware to V2 for the hell of it. The new firmware seems odd at best, but I just don't feel like going back to V. One thing that really annoys me is that I can't charge the Zen to full anymore. It always seems to be stuck at 2 bars max. And those 2 bars seem to run out in less time too. I think its because the player is actually running in Docked mode for as long as the thing is charging. I'd like to know how to charge it using USB without having to have it go to Dock mode, as in not have Windows constantly keep an open connection to it.

Turn off all of the WMP and Creative explorer services. I don't have these set to autorun, or auto start.
So when I hook up a player, as?long as I dont have any of it's services running or folders open, it will just charge and not be docked.
