Zen micro Jump

I am aware this topic has been posted before but i replied to it and it was not answered after about 2 hours.
I just got a new Zen micro for my birthday and I was rreeaaallly excited. When i ripped the music off i had a few problems like some tracks would be skipped but eventually i got them all ripped and onto my library in Media Source. I ripped them as 28kbps, MP3 Stereo.
When i played them on my Zen Micro the songs would jump. Not to the next song just like 'Hel--my name is DarkTurtle'
Should i rip them again, get a replacement, upgrade something? PLEASE HELPMessage Edited by DarkTurtle on 07-03-2005 06:44 PM

Ripped them all over again, try 92 Kbps, Constant Bitrate. And when you transfer, try to do it in small batch, ex. If you have 00 tracks, transfer 0 - 5 first.

  • Creative Zen Micro 6GB/Problems with Power Switch and Firmw

The power switch on my Zen Micro has died. I can't turn it on or off unless I 'jump start' it from a USB cable and leave it alone to go into idle shutdown. I've had this player just three weeks and this is happened and frankly I'm disgusted. But wait, my story get's worse:
So before sending it back to Creative I thought that I should at least exhaust every possible cure. First on my list? A Firmware upgrade to v2.22.05. I downloaded the program and set about installing the new firmware but halfway through the process it hung and I had to end it prematurely. Now what I had was a ZM that apparently had v2.22.05 but was not being recognised at all by my computer. Media Explorer wasn't picking up on it and neither was WMP although strangely when I connect the device it's there in the Device Manager...
So, check back with the website and it said to download an update for Mediasource and that should solve the problem. Downloaded the patch but then realised that I hadn't installed Mediasource on my computer (can't remember why I didn't though). Went back to the downloads page and downloaded Mediasource. Tried to install it but I can't. The reason? because my computer isn't detecting the ZM and I can't install it until it recognises that it's there.
As a last resort I thought that I would try to use 'Rescue Mode'. Seemed simple enough, remove the battery and hold down the power switch. Then put the battery back in and wait for the rescue screen to come up. Seems easy enough. Oh wait, I don't have a working power switch.
What I do have though, is a small piece of plastic and metal that I can't turn on, can't turn off, can't put any songs on, can't listen to, can't fix and can't be bothered with. I have a ?60 paperweight.
Anyone at all have any idea what I should do? I just want to put it all in a box and send it back to Amazon with a request for a full refund or a threat to take them to the Small Claims Court.

Although a failed power switch is not unknown, I only recall seeing two or three other cases of this. It's not common.
If WMP isn't working with the device having v2 firmware something is wrong. Unfortunately this can be difficult to fix, but take a look here in the Zen FAQ at Nomadness.net.
MediaSource won't detect the player if there's some issue e.g. WMP0 not detecting it. You can of course also try installing Zen Micro Media Explorer (Creative Zen Micro Media Explorer Web Update to be specific) which has MTP support.
Are you are presumably under guarantee, and as you bought from an Internet store, it's best to return it direct to Creative. Contact Creative Support to arrange this.

  • Zen micro - takes so long to play the next s

    Hello,
I just got a Zen Micro and I am thinking of returning it tomorrow because it takes so long to play one song, then skip to another. I press forward song or backward, or I jump to another album and press to play another song and sometimes I have to wait up to 0 seconds until the next songs starts to play - very annoying. Often I wait at last 5 seconds. Do you experience this? Can anything be done? This is not acceptable.
    Thanks, Holden

I am the one who started this thread and have some information about why I was experiencing this problem.
A friend of mine who turned me on to the Zen Micro never experienced the problem I was experiencing - waiting too long to skip from one song to another. He suggested that my Micro might be defecti've. So I returned it and got another one.
I returned it, went home and updated the firmware and again loaded it with tons of songs using Napster-to-go. Nothing changed - it still would sometimes take several seconds to jump from one song to another (****it would play straight through play lists and albums without a hitch though).
I decided to keep the Micro because it is such a cool device and appeals to me much more than the iPod.
Glad I did. Last night I started ripping my CD collection and put it on to the Micro. I listened to some of the songs and noticed I could jump around from track to track without any delay.
I only experience the delay using the Napster-to-go service. I guess there's some small piece of code in the PlaysForSure update that checks to see if the tracks are legal or not. That's my guess.
The Micro is amazing - sounds amazing, looks amazing, the navigation is amazing. And it works with Napster-to-go perfectly (well except for the short delay that I've described).
Thanks to everyone for your comments.

  • Zen Micro has developed a serious fault after only 6 mon

I purchased my Zen Micro whilst on my honeymoon in Toronto, i li've in Manchester UK, 6 months ago and it has recently developed a critical fault.
It seems the headphone socket has somehow become faulty which in effect means i cannot listen to music without distortion. The volume jumps from optimum level to a tinny wail constantly.
I had originally felt that it was in fact an issue with my headphones but on subsequent investigation, by hooking the Zen to my stereo, discovered it is in fact my MP3 player.
The questions i am looking for an answer are :
    What do I do?
I reside in the UK but purchased the player in Canada, does this mean i do not have a valid warranty claim?
Has anyone experienced the same problem, and what was the subsequent resolution?
Can I have my unit repaired or is it lost in the abyss of faulty electrical goods?
Although this is an MP3 player it does hold sentimental value to me as i used money given to me as a wedding present to purchase it.
Thank you in advance for your help!

This is a common problem for many Zen Micro users, including myself. I have contacted customer support and I am waiting for them to respond with shipping instructions, but I only sent the e-mail yesterday, so I should be expecting the e-mail in a couple of days, so far they have been good.
What do I do? Contact customer support e-mail because they will likely send you an RMA. I reside in the UK but purchased the player in Canada, does this mean i do not have a valid warranty claim? I am not sure about this one, sorry, maybe you should ask customer support if you inform them of your problem.Has anyone experienced the same problem, and what was the subsequent resolution? Yes, still waiting to send player inCan I have my unit repaired or is it lost in the abyss of faulty electrical goods? You will likely get it replaced or repaired if you e-mail customer support

  • Zen Micro and Windows XP trou

I have had my Micro for about 2 months, and used Windows 98. I bought a new computer (with windows XP pro) and installed my micro. I have been running into some issues: the computer won't recognize my micro in Creative Mediasource, but does under My Computer. I have installed the Plays for Sure firmware (2. or something).
My main question: if I want to play songs through my Micro and computer, how can I do that? The computer doesn't seem to recognize the Micro as another hard dri've, I can only get it through the Zen Micro Explorer, and that is confusing enough.
Windows Media Player 0 seems to need internet access to verify the song licenses, but my computer is a laptop, and I don't currently have internet access.Message Edited by porsche997 on 07-23-2005 2:3 AM

We're all sort of screwed on this issue. I've had the same problem from the beginning with my Creative Zen Micro. I've upgraded to the latest firmware, run disk clean up, done everything suggested in the forum yet my computer NEVER recognizes the Zen Micro. I just have to keep plugging & unplugging & plugging & plugging the Micro and eventually I've be able to transfer music.
But, I repeat, my computer (Windows XP) never recognizes the Micro. My computer has no problem recognzing my jump dri've.

  • VERY BIG PROBLEMS WITH MY ZEN MICRO AND MEDIASOURCE! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME! PLEASE RESPOND

Ok so a while back I had to give up my computer because it wasn't working.
I thought that with my new computer I'd be able to transfer all of my music from my zen micro onto my new computer.
Now my new computer is set up and I have installed creative mediasource and everything. I started to transfer my music from my zen onto my computer. My first 2 songs transfered successfully onto my computer. On the third song, I get this message:
"Unable to read file, file may be in use, missing, or corrupted."
I thought that maybe it was just that one song so I shrugged it off. But then it says the same thing for every single other song that i have! Only my first 2 songs out of my entire music library on my zen will transfer!!!
Please i really need your help!!!
And say that there is no hope in getting the rest of my songs to transfer and i have to download 094 songs from limewire? I'll surely be arrested for downloading that much! What should i do if i must download all of them?
And one more problem with my zen: Some of my Jump Little Children songs are doing something weird. The song will be fine and then a clip from another song will play during it! And then press next and it just keeps playing all of my Jump songs in order even though my player is on shuffle and they do the same thing with the clip from another song interupting it. Whats going on?
Most importantly though, i really need the questions answered about transfering from my zen to my computer because i'll be getting a new player soon. But this is my entire music library at stake!! PLEASE RESPOND!!!

    Might try this:? http://forums.creative.com/creativel...mp=true#M95059

  • Zen Micro Photo 8gb have headphone jack probl

I am going to purchase a zen micro photo, but only if the headphone jack problem is fixed from the previous zen micro's. Anyone know anything about this? Thanks

I doubt that you'll get an *official* response to this as CL does not *officialy* have any problems with the headphone jacks on their units other than from *mishandling* or from a normal and small failure rate. As of now the official stance is that there's no problem to fix. Just keep checking back here. Looks like with the Micro the thread started jumping after about 3 months for the folks that purchased last January.
Mine's about a month old now with no problems.

  • Zen Micro -- Where can i use

I was wondering if the Zen Micro worked well when say snowboarding or riding a bike?

    Bennetcq,
Jogging is definitely a bad idea due to the continual up/down motion, whereas I think the main risk when snowboarding/bike riding would be the potential for a fall.
If you snowboard down moguls or are doing rough trail riding I wouldn't suggest taking it along. If you are just riding on a smooth street or snowboarding down a fast trail (read: not jumping...etc) then the chance of damage is lower. Personally I would not take a HDD based player on either of these due to the fact that damage by a fall or heavy vibrations would not be covered under the warranty. This is more of the territory for flash based player like a MuVo 2 Cross Trainer or a MuVo Micro N200.

  • Zen Micro Radio Recept

I have a zen micro, and I have to say I love it. I get almost 4 hours out of the batteries. I have had no problems whatsoever. My only thing is the radio reception. I know that it generally sucks, but I made a discovery last night. With any headphones I used, the reception was bad. When I plugged a Bose headphones extender into it the receptio jumped to almost perfect. It would seem that the reception is directly related to the length of the headphone cord. Has anyone else expireinced this?
    Blade

I love in vancouver Canada, and im using the stock creative headphones and i so far have had no problem with the radio what so ever. although the sound does become fuzzy if i go into lower levels of the mall but that is just a minor thing to me.

  • Zen micro not charg

Hi guys, I looked thru the FAQ and previous postings but can't seem to find anything on this problem. Anyways, I can't seem to get my zen micro to charge via the wall charger even though the battery is near dead, no bars. The micro just acts as if it isn't plugged in at all. I tried using a power strip to try to 'jump' start the battery as suggested as well as keeping the hold on when charging but nothing seems to work. I'm currently on a long trip without my usb connector so I can't try connecting to a computer. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what else I can try to get this thing charging? Thanks.Message Edited by ppong828 on 08-26-2005 03:23 AM

thx ssr for the suggestion. fortunately i'm living with someone who has a multimeter but unfortunately I'm not so great with this sort of electronical testing. I'm not exactly sure how to use one to test the usb end of the wall charger for the output voltage since the output end is so small but I couldn't get any reading. Also, I couldn't get a resistance on the input end so maybe that means that the wall charger may have shorted out. thx again for your help.

  • My Zen Micro firmware wish li

Hey folks. Sorry if this has been posted somewhere already. Just wanted to see everyone' thoughts on what they'd like to see implemented in the next firmware release of the Zen Micro. I just got my new Zen Micro the other day. I am I am switching from my Iri'ver H20. I am very impressed with this little player and feel like I made a good investment. So, with this being my 3rd mp3 player, I would like to suggest the following be added to the next firmware update. To the folks over at Creative, thanks for listening, unlike the Iri'ver people.
    # Where is the bass boost? I listen to a lot of RnB and rap music. The EQ does a fine job, but a bass boost would be preferable. My Iri'ver had this feature and it sounded great. Through in BBE while you're at it.
#2 I have all my music organized by genre and title. It would be nice to be able to browse my my collection simply by genre/title, rather than genre/artist/title. I understand that other users have different preferences, so why not make the music browsing system customizable?
#3 I have a problem with my vertical touch pad. When I try to scroll though all of my tracks by pressing and holding down the top or bottom of he touch pad, it doesn't work half the time. This should be fixed where you could scroll down by simply pressing and holding the vertical touch pad anywhere below he mid-section and vice versa for scrolling up.
#4 Crashing is a major problem with this player. This bug needs to be hunted down and fixed. The touch pad is too sensiti've (And no, I don't like leaving the hold switch "on" all of the time because I like to access a button, like song skip or volume immediately without having to adjust the hold switch first. ) and when accidently pressed, and too many thinggs are pressed at the same time, the player crashes. Maybe a rubber case that makes accidental touch of the touch pad less likely (like the ipod rubber cases) would be useful.
#5 Having the player display the time at the top of the screen next to "now playing" in the Now Playing screen would be neat. The player knows the time. Why shouldn't we? Especially when we get so caught up in the player, we forget the time and is late for that staff meeting Smile
#6 A queue function for setting a specific song to play next when listening to your entire library at random is a good idea. My Iri'ver had this function. It lacked the On the Go playlist thingy, which I prefer, but queuing a song to play next would be niftier than creating a specific list to accomplish the task.
#7 Ok, I'll jump on the battery bandwagon too. Please fix the battery drain issue.
#8 In the now playing screen, between the elapsed time and remaing time, include file type (wma, mp3, wav) and the bitrate info.
#9 While I'm talking about file types, and even though I don't have a single Ogg file, support for this format would be a good idea. while AAC is only available in Ipods (I think) Ogg is being included in a wide range of players and is seemingly the next big thing. I might decide to ogg some of my music one day.
#0 Please give this player the ability to record in mp3 format. I know it may be harder on the players processor, but the file types would be smaller and allow for more recording and recording time.
    # I know this is a problem for mp3's but gapless playbacl and a crossfade feature for WMA's would be a good idea. I would love this when I listening to genre music, like dance. That would truly make this player remarkable. I think i would prefer this feature more than anything else. Wink
In conclusion, I want to reiterate that you guys have built a top notch player and is one of the best on the market. I retired my still more expensi've Iri'ver h20 player in favor of this one. Thanks once again for listening.

<SPAN class=postbody>this is a post i initially made on nomadness.. however, here it goes.
    <SPAN class=postbody>
<SPAN class=postbody>hey, i really like the glow when it charges.. could we have it configured like, for example: charging|power suply|always (i hear you about the 4h on that 650mAh; btw why only 650mAh?!) somebody else thought that it might be nice for the glow to follow the 'beat' of the song currently playing and that would be very nice also.
<SPAN class=postbody>then i also like to know what i'm listening to, so sometimes i look at the display but as the backlight is off and it's late and the lights aren't on yet, i need to make it react so i have to push a button or something.. so i thought it would be nice to have at least the option to have it 'on' always. btw, i use to have it connected to a powes suply almost all the time if i'm not on the road, moreover, i use it to put me to sleep, therefore, the glowing thingy would be a nice 'effect'. <SPAN class=postbody>a new thing: i have micro 5GB with fw ver 2..02e and while it is connected to my pc, it is on stand by docking mode, no explorer window (or wmp0) is accessing it, it charges the battery but since it is in docking mode i cannot access it (listen to music). i don't know if because it is a BETA version, but it would be nice to have the possibility to 'undock' it when in stand-by docking.. so i can listen to music while it is charging using USB but i'm not interested in transferring to music. i am using xp professional sp2 with no creative drivers/software installed. anybody else has this problem?

  • Zen Micro - transfer lock ups with latest firmwa

I've been trying to transfer mp3 files to my firmware upgraded Zen Micro and find that the transfer slows down and then locks the player after 30-40 files have successfully copied. This happens with ..0 and 2.2.02 firmwares.
The player will then remain in a 'acti've' docked state (black arrows) until the battery is removed. After this lock up tags on the mp3 files are messed up and display Chinese looking characters in the Details View.
This happens on two different computers with USB2.0, one Intel based and the other AMD.
Two questions - anyone know if this is a known issue being worked on for an imminent firmware update? And secondly - is the problem aggravated (or even created) because I am trying to copy files over from a directory tree (mp3's sorted into artist/album/ folders) rather than one flat folder with all mp3s in it (ie. in one single folder).

I'd try transferring fewer files at a time and see if that works.
You might be on to something with copying from a directory tree too. See if transferring the files in smaller groups from one folder helps out.
You can always organize the artists/albums later in Zen Micro Media Explorer or Creative MediaSource.

  • New Zen Micro will NOT connect!

    Hello all,
I just bought a Creative Zen Micro player. I installed the software, charged the battery to full and guess what.....the Creative software does not recognize my player as being connected. And yes, I've checked device manager to see if it appears. It does, with the correct name and everything. So what is the problem? I've read other messages on this forum about this problem but it usually seems to be a problem after installing a new version of firmware. But this hasn't been done in my case because I haven't been able to get the stupid thing connected in the first place.
I'm confused as to what to do next. I've tried resetting it by removing the battery and then holding the power button but this hasn't worked either. I first was using a usb hub to connect but after reading that you should avoid this, I tried plugging directly into a usb port on my machine. That also didn't make a difference. I've unistalled the player from the device manager about 5 times and reinstalled it. I've tried reinstalling the creative software/drivers about 5 times and no resolution. I've followed instructions from the Creative website step by step as the proper way to install the software but nothing works. I'm extremely disappointed to bring home a product that does not work out of the box. Oh, and yes I have Windows XP Pro so the OS isn't the issue here. I guess I will just return this useless product unless someone else has another idea that I could try. I'm really at my wits end.
Thanks for listening to this short novel,
    Drawn-a-Blank

The software that will not recognize the player is the Zen Media Explorer and Media Source. I'm not sure what firmware I have and I can't check since I'm not at home. But, I can't install new firmware even if I wanted too since it won't connect. However, I have downloaded the lastest drivers but I don't think I've installed the lasted version of Zen Media Explorer, so I guess that is one other option.

Have tried to download drivers and software for Zen Micro. When I try to run it though, it does not install because it says that I do not have device connected. Have erased everything off of Zen Micro, but have not reformatted. When I attach Zen Micro to PC, Zen Micro displays "booted" & PC displays "Zen Micro" for a second or two, then switches to "MTP Device"?. Do I need to erase everything from the Zen Nano Plus first?2. What do you think my next step should be?Thx???
