Zen micro just froze up! he

I bought a Zen Micro 5gm from Ebay many months ago and immediately downloaded over 000 songs onto it. I was just using it last night and plugged it in to recharge the battery and then decided to listen to it today. It powered up and as soon as it got past the creative screen, it said something like "please choose what songs to play from your music library" and to get weirder, when i went to the menu and chose music library, all tracks, it just froze up and did nothing.........it wouldn't power off, so i took the battery out, replaced it, and tried again. It did the exact same thing. It has been working so well, no problems ever, and i have never dropped it or anything like that. It seems that it can't even find my music files. The bad thing is, I don't have those 000 songs backed up on my computer or anything, it took me months to customize my library and download the songs. It is freezing up and i can't find any of my songs that were all there last night!
What should I do? I don't have the original warranty anymore. I don't have a hard copy of a manual either. This is the first mp3 player i've ever had, so i'm fairly new to the whole process and am not sure what to do in order for it to work properly and NOT lose all my music files. HELP! And, just in case I do get this up and working right without losing my music library, is there a way to be able to send my music library back to my computer and save it somehow?
I am fairly computer literate so I'm able to follow instructions or directions, but I really hate the thought of having to download all those songs again, some of them were almost impossible to get in the first place.
Any help from anyone would be greatly appreciated!

Barb,

  • Help! My zen micro just underwent a sho

hi all! i was happily walking just now when i sort of tripped over a bump (luckily i didn't fall..) and guess what happened? My zen micro went through a shock and it shut down itself 5 times automatically during a song. I have to take out the battery and i don't know...is my player gonna be spoilt because of this incident? i am worried there might be some problem with the hard disk...seriously, it wasn't that much of a shock and many times, i have experienced this kind of player shutting event...so do u people think my player will still be alright? I mean, who doesn't trip now and then? But so far, i haven't drop my player yet....

It's hard to know if any serious damage was sustained, but as the player "reacted" there is some cause for concern. All you can do is wait and see if the player misbehaves in the future.

  • Zen Micro, Just Do it this

Okay. So I owned a nomad Jukebox 3, and frankly, the navigation was much better, espeically ith the icons n such. I wjust got my JB3 out about an hour ago, and i find it much easier tpo use. I think we should have the option (like in the jukebox one) to switch between this, unnattracti've firmware we have now, and the firmware thst like the one on the JB3..thats just ym 2 cents...

it should be when no programs are accessing the zen micro you should be able to listen to it whilst its charging. there are so programs that access your micro which you wouldnt expect to. like internet explorer, so just make sure things like that are closed. the if the docked screen still shows try pressing back a few times, sometimes gets mine out of docked.
alternativly you could listen to the music on your micro through the computer using software. or use something like zen micro media explorer to tell the player to start playing the music, thich plays through the headphones.

  • Do I need a new Battery or is my zen micro just brok

I got my zen micro about a year ago and i have yet to replace the only battery that i own. I noticed about a month ago that i have to push the "lever thing to turn it on" to the left harder than i usually do, and now it won't even turn on unless i do it really hard. Ever since i noticed the change i have been putting it to the idle mode just so that i could avoid using the "lever thing" as little as possible.
    PLEASE HELP!HELP!HELP!HELP!HELP! I need help!

    MissArtist32,
the figures you provide indicate that your battery is so close to completely dead that it is a wonder that it will run your computer at all. A Full Charge Capacity of 410mAh is less than a tenth of what it was when new.
The fact that you have only completed 63 cycles in more than three years probably explains why. Even with normal use 3 years is quite a good "lifespan", but Lithium Ion batteries need regular use to prevent deterioration. Most batteries of this age will have been through at least a couple of hundred "cycles".
Once you get a new battery try to let it get through at least one discharge / charge cycle every week. The best way to do this is to use it for brief periods of time off the charger ever day or so, rather than charging it right up and draining it right down.
But one thing is for sure. Your battery is in very , very poor condition indeed. Time to buy a new one.
    Cheers

  • Zen Micro just has a lit but blank screen? Help me pleas

I bought a 6 GB Zen Micro for my daughter for Xmas last year and now (not sure for how long but I guess several months) the battery does not seem to hold any charge and it will not turn on unless connected to a USB port. When I connect the player to an USB port the screen lights up, I get the Creative copyright screen for a second and then the screen is lit & blank except for the batter icon up top which has a flashing lightning bolt inside. The screen remains lit and that is about it. It stays lit for ever it seems, or at least until I unplug it. But even after that it will not turn on at all.
There is only one thing I can get the player to do but only when plugged into a usb port. If I hold the power button down for 5 seconds I get the Creative copyright screen followed by the Recover mode screen. I can select an option from the recovery mode and start the option but the screen eventually goes blank and dark.
Don't know what is wrong nor what to do.
It might be the battery, might be the player itself, don't know.
    Any help is appreciated please.
Should also note that when connected to a usb port and my computer is on then Windows XP notices the Zen Nano as new hardware.
    Thanks

  • My 2 week old Zen Sleek just froze

    Hello all,
I was just raving to somebody how great my Sleek was. A few minutes ago I unplugged it from the computer and it says "Docked" & "Please Wait". It also has the "plug" sign where the battery is supposed to be. I tried to turn it off, but all it did was light the screen up which worries me since it won't go off now. None of the buttons work & the computer doesn't recognize it. This can't be right since it's only 2 weeks old. I already put 200 songs on it. Is it broken? Any help is appreciated... This is really frustrating.
    Thanks.

Did you safely remove it from the computer? or, was the acti've dock on when you disconnected it's These might cause hangs.
Try resetting it. I haven't seen/touched a real Zen sleek (it is not available in my region yet), so I can't tell you where the reset button is - refer to the manuel.

No, your player is not broken. Just reset it and it will be fine. It's no uncommon for HDD-based player to just hang like that. However, it should not be too often, perhaps once in a blue moon.

  • Zen Micro Photo froze up with adding playlist while audio was play

This morning, I was listening to a track and tried adding a predefined playlist by clicking on the menu (lower right) button and selecting "Add to Selected". A box box appeared and a buzzing sound was heard in my headphones. At this point, the player froze. All efforts to revi've it by shutting down the payer failed. I finally resorted to removing and re-inserting the battery. After getting a "Rebuilding Library" messages for several minutes, the player shut down, and all appears to be normal now. Should I be able to perform this action? I have been able to add an album while another album is playing without a problem. This playlist is quite large - some 50 plus mp3 tracks. Thanks to any and all........

The key pad is locked up. It will reboot however, it will not allow me to select cleanup, reformat, or any other selection. New firmware didn't change anything. I've sent it back to Creative. Now the long wait...

  • Zen Micro problem need help

Today i was listening to music and my zen micro just froze while playing and no buttons could be pressed and the lock button wasnt on. So i took the battery out and rebooted the player but it froze at the creative screen. I went home and i went to recovery mode and tried to reload the firmware but it said erasing firmware for more than 2 hours. So then i tried a format but it said formating for the same amount of time. I need help please. Also, recently i've had problems witht the headphone jack. When ever i would stick it in it would sound distorted and i would have to move it around until i got it to a certain spot to hear it good again. If anyone else has this problem please tell me. One more thing i had returned my other micro zen in for hard dri've probems and this was my new one do u think if i have to return in (hopefully not) that they would accept it.

If the functions in Rescue Mode aren't working properly then you need to contact Creative Support.

  • Zen Micro freezing on connect

    Hi
I just bought my Zen Micro today and had no problems with it at first. I charged it until it was fully charged and then plugged it into my computer. It was detected by the computer and everything seemed to be working well. I ran Media Explorer and imported some music into my Zen Micro. I disconnected my Zen Micro from the computer and tried out the music. Everything was fine.
So I decided to plug it back into my computer and import some more music. The Zen Micro was again detected. I run Media Explorer again but this time it indicates that the player isn't plugged in properly. At this time my Zen Micro had froze. So I took out the battery and tried it again. I plugged it into my computer and ran Media Explorer and I got the same result.
So I tried the Clean Disk method and rebooted. It still wouldn't work. I tried to download the firmware update but when I connected my Zen Micro to the computer and tried updating, the firmware program would indicate that my Zen Micro could not be detected even though Windows detected it. My Zen would also freeze up.
So this time I tried formatting it from the same menu with the Clean Disk option. It still didn't work. So I tried using the different USB ports on my computer and it still didnt work. So I went over to my brother's computer and sadly I got the same result. So I tried downloading the updated version of the Media Explorer. Even then I still got the same result.
Can someone please help me~? I really don't want to have to return this lovely player because I got the last Limited Edition box at the store I bought it at. ThanksMessage Edited by hakuto on 0-03-2005 06:38 AM

Has anyone come up with a solution to this problem? I too have ran into a brick wall where the Zen Micro will crash whenever connected to a PC (or mac at that), but will not crash when connected to the AC adaptor. This happens after multiple disk cleanups, formats, and even a firmware reload, although the problem still remains and now I cannot even load a firmware to the player. I also tried using another USB to Mini USB cable I have lying around, only to the same results.
Please help ASAP so I can finish this review...
    Best regards,

  • Zen micro cr

My zen micro froze while playing (wouldnt turn off or anything else) so I took the battery out. When I started it back up everything was erased. I'm in the process of putting everything back on, but what can I do to make sure this doesnt happen again, or if it does, what should I do besides take the battery out. Thanks

My Zen micro just started doing the same thing, which is of course what brought me to this site. I can't get it to turn on or off, it just says Creative on the screen. I tried taking the battery out and putting it back in but it says the same thing. I did notice however that if I take the battery out and reinsert it while holding the power switch to the on position it will take you to a clean up screen. I tried to defrag it but it just stays in defrag mode forever. Guess I'll have to call Creative tomorrow when they open. Hope you have better luck then me. Could be worse, just glad I don't have an I-Pod.

  • Random Problems with Zen Micro? Try a diff. USB cable

I know people have mentioned this in other posts, but I thought I would reiterate it here. Many people seem to be complaining that their player is not recognized, or only sometimes recognized, or recognized by Windows (as a USB device) but not by their Creative software, or songs won't transfer, etc. Well, I had some similar problems which ALL went away when I started using a different USB cable - the one that shipped with the Micro just doesn't seem to work consistently.
So, if you are having problems with your player that you can't seem to solve any other way, you may want to try a different USB cable. It worked for me.
Hope this helps - I am (now) loving my new Micro!

I tried a different USB cable also, I thought that it would help, but I still got the same problems. I can almost guarantee that although you think you may have solved your issues, they WILL come back.
I've also been experiencing the "Player Not Connected" problem with my Zen Micro.
I've also had the problem where the Zen Micro just freezes in the "Docked" screen even after it has been disconnected from the PC
I've noticed that these are common problems with Zen Micros with the new firmware (.0.03)
My old Zen Micro with the old, original firmware did NOT have this connectivity problem
Creative should investigate these issues associated with this new firmware, or maybe even making the old firmware available for download to see if this really is the source of all these problems.

  • Zen Micro Problem...Any ide

Well, I've had my zen micro just under a year...and i use it a lot.. but recently its been playing up a bit... I think the battery life is a bit shorter, but the main problem is that a lot of the time it only plays out of one headphone or doesn't play the lyrics, just the background music. And to get it to play I have to put the headphones in an exact position and hold them there. I've tried replacing headphones and that doesn't seem to work.
Has anyone else solved this problem who could offer any advice to me?
    Thanks.

Hi! this has happen to me and the only thing I had to do is to take it to the store that sold me the ZEN Micro. That was a?headphone plug problem.

  • My zen micro is messed up.....can someone he

my zen micro just started being slow all of a sudden, it takes forever to start up, sometimes it takes forever to change songs, it takes forever to do anything, my computer won't let me get new firmware, and my computer recognizes my micro very rarely. can someone help me? please?

Hmmm December 2005. Hm, I guess it's not the battery then. Unless you leave it in places with hot temperatures often. But I doubt that. So it's definetely not the battery. Perhaps the number of songs? I only have about 450 so I wouln't be able to tell (although I have ZVM but used to have Zen micro). But I think if it is becoming a really bad problem for you, then you could ask the Creative costumer support. I'm out of ideas as to what it could be, although I wouldn't rule out the song amount possibility.
I'll try to go and dig out some info so check back to see if I found something. Good luck!!

  • Zen Micro Crashes on low batt

I purchased my Zen Micro 5gig last May, and had no problems til January, when while listening the battery went to 0 bars and froze and wouldn't turn off. Took the battery out and it would start, but would freeze on the main screen. I cam on here for advice and I ended up having to reformat. It was running fine since then, and I finally managed to get most of my lost songs back on. And then today, the battery was running low, so I decided to charge it from the computer while listening. I had bar left, was listening fine, hit the pause for a second, and have since not been able to do anything. It appears frozen on that screen. All the buttons still make a sound when hit, but it won't lock or turn off, and appeared to still be charging. After about 45mins the screen went blank, and will now not turn on and will not charge through USB. It was updated with new firmware in Feb. So I was wondering if other experience this problem. What should I do to get it to turn back on? Is it a bug with mine? Do you think I will have to reformat and loose all my files again? :-(?Thanx for your help

    agrhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
so last night, i installed the latest firmware and did the disc cleanup.
this morning, the zen micro crashed/froze again!!
    - turned it on
    - creative splash screen (this screen now scares me)
    - zen micro splash screen... frozen, started playing song then became bzzzzzzzzzz sound
    - removed battery
    - started back up in recovery mode
    - did disc cleanup
    - rebooted
    - creative screens again
    - rebuilding library
worked after that. of course i had to add all the songs back into the now playing.
if i'm going to have to do this all the time, then i'm going to start to regret buying this player.
    will reformating the disc help?
do creative techs ever visit this forum?
