Zen Micro Keeps locking

Every time I try to connect my zen micro to my computer, I always get a message on my computer that says the usb device is not recognized. And, the zen micro locks up, with the only way to 'un-lock' it is to unplug the usb cable and then remove the battery. This happens EVERY time i connect to the computer via the usb cable. Can someone help me?
Thanks

I've been having similar problems with my Zen Micro recently... first time it crashed the USB port wouldn't recognise it on the PC. Wasn't sure why, but plugged Micro into the charger and it sparked up again. Happened again 2 days ago when I was listening to music, song just stopped and screen went to 'Creative .. blah blah registered trademark etc", can't turn it on or off (have to take battery out to power off!), have tried to reset it but didn't work. So plugged it into charger and worked again... however 3rd time happened not so lucky - charging it does nothing! I think its shagged - not happy as happened 2 hours into a 2 hour flight! Its had the new version of firmware installed, but not sure if I can reinstall as the PC doesn't recognise it... any help appreciated. THANKS!!

  • My Zen Micro keeps freezing up when i shut it d

as stated in my subject, my Zen micro keeps freezing when i try to shut it off (it stays at the "shutting down player" screen). then, no buttons work and the only thing for me to do is take the battery out and put it back in. Is this happening to anyone else? I sent it back to them last time for this and they said they "fixed" it, but they mailed it back to me with the same problem not repaired. kind of annoying. Does anyone know anything more about this or if i'm doing something wrong when i'm shutting it off (not that I imagine anyone could possibly screw that up, but who knows). Thanks a lot.

What else have you tried? For example, have you worked through the options in Rescue Mode?

  • Zen Micro Keeps Getting Random Free

Just bought myself a Zen Micro 5gb yesterday. Updated the firmwire to the latest version--version .02.05.
The problem is that the Zen Micro keeps on freezing randomly during the playback of music. When it freezes, the only way to reboot is through taking out the battery and having it rebuild the library again. I'm quite happy with the purchase but this presistent problem sounds like it's going to lead to bigger ones.

It could be your musics that you uploaded into the player. How did you do transfer your music?... If you use MediaSource.. I would recommend upgrade that software also; from www.nomadworld.com
Try reload your music after you have the latest version of the Mediasource.
    Have fun,

  • Zen Micro - transfer lock ups with latest firmwa

I've been trying to transfer mp3 files to my firmware upgraded Zen Micro and find that the transfer slows down and then locks the player after 30-40 files have successfully copied. This happens with ..0 and 2.2.02 firmwares.
The player will then remain in a 'acti've' docked state (black arrows) until the battery is removed. After this lock up tags on the mp3 files are messed up and display Chinese looking characters in the Details View.
This happens on two different computers with USB2.0, one Intel based and the other AMD.
Two questions - anyone know if this is a known issue being worked on for an imminent firmware update? And secondly - is the problem aggravated (or even created) because I am trying to copy files over from a directory tree (mp3's sorted into artist/album/ folders) rather than one flat folder with all mp3s in it (ie. in one single folder).

I'd try transferring fewer files at a time and see if that works.
You might be on to something with copying from a directory tree too. See if transferring the files in smaller groups from one folder helps out.
You can always organize the artists/albums later in Zen Micro Media Explorer or Creative MediaSource.

  • ZEN MICRO Firmware lock

One day I was charging my zen micro unplugged it from ac charger, tried to boot up but no luck froze up on logo. I tried to disk clean, nothing. I then went to format. It seemed to format alright. Now when I try to reinstall firmware it locks up upon USB insertion and the only way to unlock it is to pull battery. When I put the battery back in it says firmware problem and goes into recovery mode. I can move the cursor and select items in recovery mode until I plug it into the USB, then its locked up. Does anybody know how much to get it fixed and how to go about the process.
    Thanks,
    seriously bummed out

Have you tried cleaning up the player through recovery mode? Also try uninstalling/reinstalling the Zen Micro drivers on the PC.
    Good luck.

  • Creative zen micro keeps crash

My c, unlike other people who seem to find it crashing on the welcome screen mine crashes on the screen when tranferring music from my PC to it or vice versa. Please can anyone help i dont know what to do

my zen micro PHOTO did this once, make sure the connection is good, change usb ports (preferably to one on the BACK of your computer on your motherboard (around the other ports)
and set it down and let it try again.
if that doesnt work may need to update the firmware and hope it was a hiccup iin the old version.

  • My zen micro keeps freez

Hi... I hope you can help me. I am fairly new user and I have had a great experience so far with my zen micro.
My first issue was running Creative MediaSource. These boxes were popping up saying something about associations. I was going to write them down today, but now they are not showing up once I tried to plug in my player with my USB connection. I did find that I had to click yes on the 4-5 boxes to continue on or MediaSource would not run.
Then one time while using my player last week, the screen froze up and the music stopped. The screen that says 'Creative' at start up appeared and it would not turn on or off. When I plugged it in, the screen was lit up showing that it was fuctioning. I took the battery out and put it back in, the player worked again for awhile. Now for a day or so, it worked fine until I plugged it into my computer and it would not recognize the player. I unplugged it and the screen is frozen on the music playing screen.
I don't know what to do from here. I have XP on my computer, but I don't know what firmware I have. It is not the newest one from July. I tried to read up on the current issues of the firmware and don't want to create more problems if this firmware is faulty. Also I don't know how to download it and use it with my player if it is on a frozen screen and unrecognized by my USB connection.
Please can you offer some advice that will helpme understand what is going on.
    Thanks,
    Steph

  • [Zen Micro] Keeps shutting down after unplugging from comput

I have owned this player for a year and three and a half months now. I had sent it in for repair before the warranty expired because I kept getting annoying feedback into my earphones. Unfortunately, they didn't fixed it and just sent it right back costing $25+S/H. I went on installing the firmware and loading my music up just fine, but when I unplug it from the computer, it shuts down. I tried several things such as reformatting the thing, but it didn't work and I hadn't checked out the sticky firmware thread so I just left the player alone very frustrated until now.
I managed to reload the firmware again thanks to that thread but I still have the automatic shut-down problem when disconnecting from the computer. I did noticed that after I unplugged it, the power bar wasn't there before it shut down.
Your ideas are appreciated but please make sure it's not about sending it back to them. It's out of warranty.
Note: It does work again after I replace the battery, but I don't want to do this every time I want to load music onto it.

Is there a sleep timer on the Micro? Did you check for that? (as opposed to Idle Shutdown)

  • Zen Micro locked up on "Creative" scr

My new Zen Micro is locked up on the screen that just says "Creative". I can't get it to do anything. I've removed the battery and tried the recovery directions. It will get me to the recovery menu but after selecting a function it just sits there. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Happened twice on the first two I had... I have still, serious issues with my third. I am contemplating abandoning ship..

  • Zen Micro 5gb Freezes and Locks Up (2nd TIME!

Does anyone know why my Micro keeps locking up....
    Its happened twice,
The first time i had updated the firmware to a better version than what it came with in the box, I used it for a couple of weeks without any glitches or problems until one day it stopped responding. It wouldn't get past the Creative logo... I tried going through the reboot system and still nothing... i tried clean up... but it would freeze also... i tried formatting but it would never finish and trust me I waited a long time.... so I had to go through customer support. They couldn't fix the problem and they told me I must have a faulty item. I sent it back to them and they sent me another player. Now guess what? My player stopped responding again... I really don't want to send it back to them so they can go through the whole process again... WHAT CAN I DO SO IT WORKS? Someone please help....

Unfortunately if the player is not responsi've there's nothing as a user you can do. You'll need to contact Creative Support again, and hopefully you won't have the same problem with your next player.

  • Zen Micro Busted, how do I get a replaceme

My zen micro keeps "eating my headphones". Any pair of headphones I plug into this thing get eaten in about 3 weeks. They no longer work with any devices unless I twist the connecting wire into a bunch of odd positions. I hoped onto the interweb and found out that this was a sort of common problem. I wanted to know how to go about getting a replacement from creative. I feel that they should pay for their own faulty manufacturing, I don't want to be out 200 bucks because their product doesn't work. Other than this problem I love the little guy!

Make sure you try those headphones on other devices, it's possible none of them are broken but that the player is. I can't say I've ever heard of any players breaking headphones before.
If the player is faulty, the best thing to do would be to contact Customer Support directly, to see how they can assist you:

  • Hey..Zen Micro Warranty Quest

    Hi..
I bought my Zen Micro about 2 months ago and i have not encountered any major problems.... but...
Yesterday I dropped my Micro from a table onto a hard floor...and now...when u shake it a little bit(not agressi'vely just a little shake..) you can here moving parts inside it as if they had broken of inside..now my Zen Micro keeps freezing on the Creative logo... I have tried rebooting i and all that suff but I was wondering if my Warranty would cover this...and if it did..would they exchange over the counter or would they have to send it away..
(sorry for the mistakes I have missed this is a new keyboard and I am trying to get used to it!!!)
Thanks for all your suggestions.....Message Edited by macroman on 08-30-2005 04:09 AM

The warranty doesn't cover accidental damage. If this was bought on a credit card, or you have house insurance, it *might* be covered to some degree.

  • Zen Micro stucked on docked scr

My 4gb zen micro keeps getting stucked at the docked screen.Btw...the arrows on the docked screen is black. This happens frequently when i upload music to my player. While uploading halfway,a message will appear 'the file could not be copied. It may not exist or is used by another program'.But there are no other programs running. When i play music from the zen media explorer, the zen micro also gets stucked at the docked screen.
There is also another problem. The zen micro sometimes make the music loud and sometimes makes the music very soft. I changed 3 sets of headphones but it is still the same. I tried the headphones on other products and it seems to work fine.
    Pls pls help me...

Btw...i haf tried the cleanup and formatting the player...but it still gets stuck often.

  • Zen Micro & Shoplifting Ala

My Zen Micro keeps triggering anti-shoplifting alarms. It doesn't seem to matter if it's on, off, with or without the battery. Has anyone else encountered this problem?

My dad bought a pair of boots that had the sensor inside them. He was a contractor and every time he went inside Home Depot the alarms went off. Finally he took his shoes off and placed them on the counter to deactivate them. The lady at the counter had a shocked look once he began taking his shoes off
I don't think the shoplifting sensor is actually inside the micro. But if it was it would probably be where the battery is. If you see a white little plastic thing that has a piece of metal inside it, thats the typical sensor. Either remove it or go to your local Home Depot and place it on the counter.
