Zen Micro locks

I just got a new Zen Micro and everything seems fine until I select radio. After this is completely locks up. I had to remove the battery to turn it off. When the battery gets put back in the Zen goes to a Creative Labs screen and you can do nothing. I did the reset by putting the battery in while holding the powerr switch. This let me listen to mp3's I had copied over but then again when radio is selected it is locked up.
Any idea of the problem or does it need to be returned. Less then hr of use on it so far!

You could try loading a new firmware onto it, from the Downloads page (such as firmware version ..0). If you're still having problems after that, I suspect there is a hardware problem. It would be best to either have it replaced at the store, or to contact Customer Support and they'll be able to replace it for you.

  • Zen micro locks up on creative l

My creative zen micro locks up on the 2nd creative logo when i attempt to start it up. I tried recovery mode. But when i click on format or something it brings up a little window saying formatting or something along that and just sits there. No my computer does not detect the mp3 player either.

The same thing happened to me and I called the co. and they told me to send it in, (bad hard dri've)not only that the head phone jack was loose so i only got like half the sound, either high's or lows it sucked. I only had it for a month!!

  • Creative ZEN Micro Lock

I have read many threads about the ZEN Micro locking up, i have one and it does lock-up!. im on bios .0.03 and i have narrowed the problem down to a problem with charging, strange as it may seem my player experiences MANY lockups when the battery is full. if i connect it using USB 2.0 when the battery is full is useless i cant get the computer to talk with it, the usb ding sounds to let me know its in but the player is not present and the sync software cannot communicate with it. when battery is used a little or flat then iits fine wierd. im going to try the bios 2.something flash and see what that does, i will let you know. by the way i have also changed the usb cable that came with it just in case! i have never had the player lock up on me during use. I love my zen micro but this is realy annoying and customers should not have to put up with problems, the competition is too steep where mp3 players are concerned. possible problems he or she might encouter are the last thing that makes the Buyer Decision Making proccess go the manufactuers way. hopefully im a one off and the problem will fix with the flash.

  • Zen Micro - Lock

Why does the Zen Micro lockup so frequently?
What is the permanent solution to this problem?
I assume a firmware upgrade is due soon from Creative, if not the device is going back to the store!

Neil I've been one of the ones that have had a bad experience with this player also. Mine locked up over 30 times in 2 days so I shipped it back to Amazon. I guess it's a matter of what you really feel the problem is. I'm not sure it is the firmware ... it may be a HD problem and I didn't want to take that risk. I was just so frustrated because I spent the better part of 2 days trying to get the thing to work.
I'm not saying to send the player back right away. I've seen some posts here that I would try before making up my mind.
It seems some have solved their problem by using a different USB cable cable when connecting it to their computer. Another has been that fully charging the battery overnight has solved their problems. Others have done a reset (To do a reset, pull the battery out and slide the power switch to the ON position and HOLD it there when re-inserting the battery.) There are a bunch of options in there to reset, reload firmware, etc..
I did e-mail Creative support with my problem but by the time they got back to me, I had sent the player back. They did have a firmware attachment but I'm not sure if it was an upgrade or just the original firmware. I would say the best thing to do is play around with it as much as you can now and keep an eye on these boards. My patience lasted all of 2 days before I sent mine back... but I thought it was great for the short time I did have it working.
I'm waiting a month or two to see if they work the problems out. If all is OK, I will probably buy it again.

  • Zen Micro locked up on "Creative" scr

My new Zen Micro is locked up on the screen that just says "Creative". I can't get it to do anything. I've removed the battery and tried the recovery directions. It will get me to the recovery menu but after selecting a function it just sits there. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Happened twice on the first two I had... I have still, serious issues with my third. I am contemplating abandoning ship..

  • My zen micro locks up after ripping music to

I have connected my zen micro to pc on 3 seperate occasions to load music on to it. when finished, i wait for the arrows with "docked" message to stop flashing (per instructions) to disconnect, but each time the device is locked up. i can't even turn it off. the only way to "unlock" it is to take cover off back and take battery out for 5 seconds (per instructions) - then it works fine - but i know this is not good to keep doing - anyone else having this problem?

If you exit the software you are using to transfer does the Micro come out of docked status?
If this doesn't help, if you shutdown your PC does the Micro come out of docked status?

  • ZEN Micro locking up, and wont "talk" to my

I bought my ZEN micro about 30 days ago. It was working great until this am. I turned it on and it locked on the "Creative" logo. I tried removing the battery, but it did it again. Removing the battery waws the only way to make it cut off. I tried a "Scan disk" in recovery mode, but all it did was lock up while scanning. I cant get it to "talk" to my laptop via the USB and Im totally stumped. The bad thing is that I lost my dang Wal Mart reciept and I dont think they will take the thing back. Im at a total loss. The unit was working fine wednesday and I havetn used it since then, well this morning I tried.....
Should I try to format it's
The USB will give the unit power, but the computer doesnt show that its hooked up....
    Help?

My micro is at the labs as we speak for warentee work. But this was not without scads of problems. I bought it at Wal mart and was told I had 90days to return it. (I'd had it like 30) so on day 3 I go into the store to get another and Im hit with the "new policy". That policy stated that all "digital music players" must be returned in 5 days. Not like everything else with 30 or 90 days, but 5. I asked when did they change this policy, and was told "about 3 weeks ago". So I said "well since I bought it under the old policy and was told I had 90 days, you have to honor that" I was told the policy was on the wall and it was too bad and it was "not their problem" and to "leave". I was polite talking to this manager, never raised my voice, no cursing or anything and I was told to leave! I was furious!
SO I called the company (emailed the first time) and the guy was really nice, he told me that Wal-mart hadnt sold one of those in over a year according to his computer and was shocked I was able to buy one. But he tried to get me to reset it, (failed) and I explained that the email instructed me to this area where the instructions were posted and I did all I could.
Long story short (too late), its at the "lab" now. It took them several days to even acknologe it was there and they havent sent me the first email (as promised) that they had it. So I wait. I sure hope they are able to fix it, I spent alot of money on that thing and I'd hate to think that it was a waste.

  • Zen Micro Locks Up!

My first Zen Micro was a 5gb model. This developed headphone jack problems and was replaced by Creative in Sydney Australia with a 6gb USA model. This unit has now developed it's own problems. Every now and then when I switch the unit on all I get is a loud buzzing coming from the headphones. This can only be stopped by removing the battery. It also refuses to shut down at times also only repairable by removing battery. Today I switched it on and it started to play but no writing or anything was on the LCD screen, it was blank. Ive gone into rescue mode about 4 times but the problem remains. Just about had enough of Creative and wishing I had bought an Ipod instead. The thing runs out of warranty in about 0 days. Im afraid I will get another one and it will do the same thing.

I have contacted Creative Customer Support and as usual all you get back is an automated email telling you to reboot this and reload that. I then contacted Creative in Sydney and they have told me to bring it in and they will swap it for another unit. If the next one does it I will demand a refund. I will have to check out a few Ipod forums to see if these peole are having the troubles Creative customers seem to have. I was going to ask for an upgrade to the Zen Microphoto but I can see by this forum that they are full of bugs as well. Technology is a wonderful thing.

  • Zen micro locked up on first plug

Just got the zen micro. Plugged it in to charge and there should be a charging icon showing. NOPE. The LCD says creative, and the play/pause button is lit up. There is no control of anything. No buttons work. Tried the other battery, same thing. Brought up the cleanup, reboot menu but can't access anything because no buttons work. Any suggestions before I send it back? Thanks loads, Dg

This is the first mp3 player I've ever bought. It is gorgeous and when I opened the box I knew I had made the right choice....that is until I tried to turn it on. It's a 250 dollar paper weight right now. I know that defects happen and that QC can't catch every defecti've product that heads out the door but it stinks when that defecti've product is yours. I've been soured on Creative all because I've had the worst out of the box experience of my life. I've pulled my hair out trying to figure out how to fix this thing. When I called tech support they were closed, and today they told me they'd "call me back". Is it me or do you feel like I'm getting a royal screw job?

  • Zen Micro locks up on the Shutting Down screen -intermittent prob

Since buying the Zen Micro in December, it has failed to shut down after I push the shut down button. It shows the SHUTTING DOWN screen, but that stays on forever (until battery dies or I pull the battery). The problem is intermittent. Sometimes the unit shuts down correctly. After nothing would fix it, Creative sent a replacemnt. Well the replacement does the same thing. I just upgraded to the new Firmware that came out this week, but that didn't solve the problem. It must be something that I am doing wrong. There is no pattern to when it will shut down and when it won't (plugged in versus not, different batteries, different screens, etc). Has anyone else had this problem?

  • Zen Micro locked up on start up scr

My Micro, when turned on, locks up on the "Creative" logo screen. I cannot shut it off & it will not connect to my computer. I've tried removing the battery but it has not helped. Anyone know what I could do?

    TheTruth72,
You lost your receipt ? No reason to loose hope as their are lots of options that will work. First off if you purchased it directly through us you can get it no problem as we have that information saved. If you bought it online then you will often be able to look up your receipt from the place you bought it from. If you bought it on credit card, a CC statement with the purchased on it will also work.

  • Creative Zen Micro Lock Up Prob

Charged the Zen. Went to use it and the screen displayed "Creative" without turning it on. Unable to turn the unit on. Removed the battery a bunch of times with various results. One time it said "please wait." Another time it started working but locked up when I tried to shut it down.
    Any suggestions?

    )remove the battery
    2) Hold the power button to the left (the way u turn it one)
    3) Insert battery (still holding it to the left)

  • Zen Micro locking up WMP

Whenever I try to transfer files using WMP 0, it locks up and doesn't complete. Any ideas?
It didn't used to do this, but I reinstalled and thus reinstalled drivers, WMP 0 etc...

The player was fully charged, and I dont think that would matter anyway since USB supplies the player with power.

  • Zen Micro Keeps locking

Every time I try to connect my zen micro to my computer, I always get a message on my computer that says the usb device is not recognized. And, the zen micro locks up, with the only way to 'un-lock' it is to unplug the usb cable and then remove the battery. This happens EVERY time i connect to the computer via the usb cable. Can someone help me?
    Thanks

I've been having similar problems with my Zen Micro recently... first time it crashed the USB port wouldn't recognise it on the PC. Wasn't sure why, but plugged Micro into the charger and it sparked up again. Happened again 2 days ago when I was listening to music, song just stopped and screen went to 'Creative .. blah blah registered trademark etc", can't turn it on or off (have to take battery out to power off!), have tried to reset it but didn't work. So plugged it into charger and worked again... however 3rd time happened not so lucky - charging it does nothing! I think its shagged - not happy as happened 2 hours into a 2 hour flight! Its had the new version of firmware installed, but not sure if I can reinstall as the PC doesn't recognise it... any help appreciated. THANKS!!

  • New Creative Zen Micro Is

This is another one of the Zen Micro Issues.
So I'm fully excited to get my new mp3 player. I got two batteries with my micro so that was a plus. I toss in a battery and setup the software on the PC. I fully installed everything then plugged in the zen micro to charge it via usb and put some files on it. Well everythings working wonderfully. It fully charges after 3 hours so I take it off and start listening to the player. Everythings great but figure out I want some more files. I plug the player back in (NOTE: I have not removed the cable from the back of the PC) and viola it won't recognize within the operating system. Now, I can hear the hardware remove noise and plug in within Windows XP and the player will goto a docked state but the OS still shows the player not connected. The only way I can get the player to stop saying docked is by removing the battery. I then went through the normal troubleshooting procedures. I uninstalled all software, cleaned the registry then reinstalled the applications. No Avail. Pissed that the device may be busted already, BTW the thing smells like it's burnt if you take off the battery and the other batter right out of the plastic wrapping smells the same, I turn to my laptop. Install the crap ass software onto that thing and I have the same exact problem on my laptop as I did on my PC. Out of Ideas I noticed that the player no longer was charging since it was plugged into the usb port and not doing the illumination thing. So I thought up an idea, what if something in the player's firmware won't allow it to be recognized if the device is fully charged? Makes sense to me so I pulled the fully charged battery out and swapped it with the other battery that was pretty much dead. OMFG it works again! It's magic I tell ya, magic!
So I've put more mp3's on it and I've swapped the batteries and am running the player to try to wear down the fully charged battery. I will let everyone know the outcome if once it gets to two bars and I plug it in if it works. If so then it's all in Creative's firmware.

I am having basically the same problem with a new Zen Micro. The computer almost always recognizes the Zen; it appears in device manager; but when a music transfer program loads, the program says nothing is connected. Meanwhile, the Zen Micro locks on "docked" and I have to remove the battery several times to get it working again. I have tried it on two laptops with the same results. Tech support told me to try it on my desktop, then take it back to the store.
It seems like the only time it works is when I have been trying for a while, which made your post about the partially discharged battery interesting. I had thought about maybe the hard dri've loosening up a bit. Asus had a problem with one motherboard one time because it could not power up a hard dri've fast enough and would result in a hard dri've failure message. Then, it would boot right up the next time.
