Zen Micro Manual Booting Prob

Hi there,?Since two months I got the Creative zen Micro player, but now I got a problem. The problem in fact is that it wont boot when I hold the button. It ony boots when i connect it to the Pc. The same problem is there with shutting the zen player down, when i hold the button it wont shut down. When I want to shut it down I have to remove the battery first. I tried to search for this problem on other forums, but I didn't see this problem on any topic. I have updated the firmware, but that didnt helped, I am afraid that it is an Hardware problem.... Does anyone have a clue ?Dirk

apuffer: What happens is that if you connect it before installing the drivers it will mark the player as not having any drivers (normally you'd be prompted to intsall, and typically people cancel out of it).
There's a known problem caused by Quicktime 7, so firstly check for that and uninstall. Then try reinstalling the software again.
Assuming it installs OK hopefully it will pick up on the drivers being present, but if it doesn't just go back into Device Manager and delete the driverless Zen Micro device. Then physically disconnect and reconnect the player, and the drivers should install.

• Zen Micro with booting proble

Hey i had this zen for 2 weeks so far and I've read the faqs and tried what it had to say.
My problem is that my zen micro freezes on the Creative logo. Now it worked before but in the past few days its been like this. I've did clean up reformated it and reloaded the OS/firmware. The only thing about the firmware is that it needed to boot up but like i said it freezes. It when i tried it a second time it said that the firmware is the same as the update so does anyone think i did it right? Suggestions in fixing my Zen micro is greatly appcreiated.

If you updated the firmware and then tried the same update again you will of course be told you have the same firmware. The only way to reload it is from rescue mode (using the reload firmware command).
Realistically though if you've updated the firmware and the player is freezing once or twice a day it sounds faulty. I would contact support.

• Zen Micro firmware update prob

Hi everyone,
I've got a problem trying to upgrading my Zen Micro Firmware. When it says that I have to wait while it's rebooting the player, nothing happens. When I do it manually, the firmware is still the old one. Does anyone know what I have to do?

I too have exactly the same problem. Micro reboots once, then just sits there doing nothing. I have tried the on/off method ,as you said, it goes back to the old firmware. Having tried to load the update offline with no background programs running I still got the same fault (even leaving it for half an hour.) I have now given up as i am worried that it may corrupt the existing firmware. I have turned of the snooper setting as requested . I think that it shows signs that after the first reboot the computer is not recognizing the players USB. So it may be that after the st reboot the usb may need to be removed/reconnected. But i'm not going to take that chance as you will be losing power when trying to upgrade. Best way to corrupt a download on any item plugged to the USB is to remove it will been accessed.
Still waiting for a reply from Creative.
Having read threads about the new firmware upgrade I think were best to stay with the old one for a little while longer.

• Zen Micro - Initial setup prob

I just got my Zen Micro, and in my excitement to get it set up I plugged it in before installing the software (OOPS)... it says in the manual not to plug it in before installing the software. I unplugged it and tried to install the software (the CD autoran when I inserted it), but the installation program crashes after clicking "NEXT" on the first screen. Does anyone know if this is because I plugged in my Zen Micro before installing, and if so, if I can fix it's

• Zen Micro & FM Transmitter Prob

I noticed that the Zen Micro does not work well with the I-Ri'ver FM transmitter. The MuVo works fine with this transmitter. What is up with this? I need an FM transmitter that really works, my 2006 car does not offer a cassette deck just CD.

I can't see why there would be a difference. What do you mean "does not work well"?

• Zen micro cd installation prob

hi i recently purchased a zen micro. when i try to install the software from the cd i pick the region and the language and then an error comes up saying the "demoshield player has encountered a problem and needs to close". this happens evry time and i have tried it on 2 differernt computers. has anyone experienced this and how did you fix it's

You can try downloading each individual piece of software required from the download page instead. You need the following:
. Creative Zen and Jukebox Driver Upgrade version .30.03
2. Creative MediaSource Player/Organizer 3.30.2
3. Creative Zen and NOMAD Jukebox plugin 2.00.9 for Creative MediaSource
Install . then connect the player to the PC. Then install 2 (which needs the player connected for verification) followed by 3.
You can also download Zen Micro Media Explorer as well.

You will need the playforsure firmware for vista to recognize the Micro. You will need to update the firmware from a machine with windows XP. Then vista will recognize the your Micro. If your player has the old firmware there is no way to?update it in Vista.?

• Zen Micro not booting up and recovery mode doesn't do anyth

Hi,
I just got my Zen Micro yesterday and it worked fine until the second battery charging.
I charged it using the AC adapter. When it finished charging I tried to turn it on but it wouldn't go past the Createi've log (the second screen after the one with the copyright notice)
Since then I've tried all the options in the recovery menu but they don't seem to have any effect. (The recovery mode displays "Creative Zen Micro v0.0.58 at the top)
I tried "clean up" and gave it at least 30 minutes but it didn't finish.
I tried "reload firmware" but after some time I took out the battery and it still gets stuck at the second Creative screen. I don't get the firmware error screen.
Also tried the format and reboot options... nothing.
Yesterday I upgraded the firmware to .02.05 firmware and didn't have any problems. All the software also worked fine on my WinXP machine.
Would appreciate your help.
Thanks,
Greg.

I've had the exact same problems as GregL, except that I have the original firmware that came with the Zen Micro (I was planning to upgrade it until this whole mess happened).
I charged it fully a few times, and it'd been working fine for about fi've days, and now, I can't get past the "Creative" logo screen! Recovery menu works, but the options don't seem to get anywhere. They never get past "Erasing Firmware", "Scan Disk", and the like. I've tried rebooting and I've tried removing the battery, but nothing has changed.
Does anyone know what might be wrong with my Zen Micro?

• Zen Micro Car Connection Prob

Okay so i bought a cable for my Zen Micro 5gb Black, that is RCA audio to headphone jack. I have a pioneer headunit (aftermarket) which has the RCA audio jacks on the back. My problem is that when i plug this in and play my zm, it plays no matter what else is happening, with whatever else is on, like a cd and my zm or the radio and my zm. Plus i cant control volume through my headunit, only through the zm volume control. Anyone know of any simple and hopefully free ways to fix this? I dont have an aux. in, just the red and white RCA audio jacks. Id really like to be able to just have the zm play, and i control the volume and such through the head unit.
Thanks in advance,
Rug

The car stereo does have a "source" button which i use to switch back and forth from radio to cd and such. However, it doesnt find the RCA audio connection as a source, which is very strange. I took out the cd, and plugged the ZM into the RCA connection, and hit source and nothing happened. The other problem is i already have XM satillite radio with a rf modulator hooked up into the headunit so i cant use another modulator. The only soulution i can think of is to get some kinda RCA audio a-b switch and plug both the zm and the sattilite radio into its modulator. I dont know if anyone makes something like that though...thoughts?

• Zen Micro Media Connection Prob

I have a zen micro, I just updated the firmware so nothing is currently on my Zen. I went to import music to my zen with the Zen Micro Media Explorer, and it says my device is not connected. Now, my computer recognizes the device because it shows up as connected under my computer and I can import music that way, but its much easier and faster if I was able to use the Media Explorer and that is not working. Any suggestion? Thanks

Did you also update to a newer version of the Media Explorer?

• Weird Zen Micro Heaphone Jack Prob

Hi,
I have owned my zen micro for over a year, and love it! Recently, the sound started spitting in and out, so i replaced my headphones. Unfortunately, that didn't work, but I realized that if I press firmly on the heaphone's wire, and wrap it around the corner right next to the headphone jack, the sound works ok, as long as i dont move the wire... I have had to get the headphone wire "into position" and then wrap the wire tightly around the micro, or just hold it awkwardly, to get decent sound.
The headphone jack itself seems to be loose. By holding the wire tightly and pulling towards the corner, I seem to be getting the jack back into position. My question is: How do I tighten the jack? I am not an internal tinkerer (i just wrap my headphone wires around it as a solution!), and I dont feel comfortable opening the micro up and trying to tighten it myself. Does anyone know of a way to get this problem fixed?
Thanks!
Mike

The infamous headphone jack problem is quite common with micros. Since creative is aware of this problem they might fix it for you even though you're probably past warranty. get in touch with customer support and see what they can do (mention that it is a common problem!).
If they're not willing to cooperate use the search function in this forum. I remember a guide to soldering the jack in place and one or two other methods.

• HELP! Zen Micro 6GB Firmware prob

My first problem is that my Zen Micro has a firmware problem. After it shows the "Firmware Problem" message it goes to the recovery menu. I've tried "Clean Up" and "Format All" but I am still unable to use my Zen Micro. The second problem is that the firmware upgrading software won't recognize the Zen Micro. I can still sync music to my Zen with Windows Media Player but the program used to update the firmware will not recognize it. I'm running Microsoft Windows XP SP 2 on a Toshiba Satellite M40X. I've also tried updating the firmware on another desktop computer running Microsoft Windows XP SP 2 but it still will not recognize the Zen Micro. I've tried installing drivers yet the program still won't recognize my Zen Micro. Is there any other way to get the firmware onto my Zen Micro or am I out of luck?

Bump. I sent an e-mail to Creative and they were of no help. They told me to send it in and that I would have to pay for it. Is there any other way to install the firmware, or possibly better drivers that I could download other than the ones from Creative's website.

• Zen Micro memory space prob

I have deleted all of the files I could possibly find on my Zen and it still says I only have 762MB of space out of 5839MB. I'm extremely frustrated, I've tried everything I can think of (which isn't much as it turns out), and I am most definitely not a technical person. Please help if anyone knows a possible solution.
Thank You,Candace
