Zen Micro MTP Firmw

Hi all,
I have a basic question about the MTP Firmware : when it is installed and I connect my ZM to my XP PC, will I be able to drag and drop regular mp3 files on the ZM, as if it were an external HDD ? That is, without relying on WM 0 sync. features ? Thanks.

Sure, you can copy any file back as long as it doesn't have any license. MP3 files can't have this.
99+ % of MP3 files, that is. Some Sony Ericsson cell phones actually support a DRM version of MP3 (possibly proprietary, but I think it's an Open Mobile Alliance feature available to all cell-phone makers), largely to help carriers block the phone's ability to use ordinary MP3 files as ringtones, and thus force users to buy ringtones from carrier-approved sites. (Vodafone in the UK does this regularly, but Cingular, the only US national carrier that regularly sells Sony Ericsson, didn't with my phone.)
Sony Ericsson used to provide a "DRM Packager" freely to developers to insert DRM into MP3 ringtones; phone hackers discovered it and bypassed Vodafone's locks by using it to make their own DRM'ed MP3's for download to their phones. Sony Ericsson eventually took it down, though warez sites still carry it, and presumably some real developers can still get it. (No, I won't tell how to get it; I'm not about to be banned.)
Of course, this DRM isn't approved by the major labels for anything other than ringtones (and isn't supported by anything but cell phones), so obviously any MP3 file that gets near a Micro, or any other stand-alone MP3 player, isn't DRM'ed.

  • PETITION: Update to the Zen Micro MTP Firmw

I don't know, maybe I'm the only one who has this issue but I would like Creative to fix the bugs in the Zen Micro MTP firmware. I used this version for half a day. In that span, the computer froze three times and I had to re-install the device twice. In lieu of this, I think Creative really needs to review this firmware as it caused major problems for me (and maybe other users). The new firmware update could also include what users want most......an always visible clock and a more accurate battery indicator.

  • Zen Micro MTP not recognized? Solution in he

So, after scouring the forums here and Google in search for a reason why my MTP enabled Zen Micro wasn't being recognized in a fresh WinXP install. Well here's the solution everybody.
    Try installing this:
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;8922
I noticed that the player isn't recognized by drivers from the net or the Zen Micro CD (They're both the same anyways). The reason why is because the Device ID for the Zen Micro with the MTP firmware is different (USB\VID_04E&PID_430\00525530038FF3). If you open up the .inf file used to install this player, the Device ID is not in there.
I had another XP install on another HDD which recognized the Zen Micro and noticed that only a single file was being used for the drivers: wpdusb.sys.A search on Google brought me to the Microsoft KB page. I installed that patch and poof instant recognition.
I also believe this issue could be resolved if you install the latest Windows Media Player 0 available. I had it installed, but somehow that file wasn't installed and the update provided it for me.
    I hope this helps somebody~! =)

The only other suggestion to what the problem could be is a a software conflict of the driver and current software on your system that is interferring with the recognizing of your player. I had the same problem happen, and I tried my Micro on three different computers, and the Micro worked, instantly, and my Zen use to work on my computer before an upgrade.
Somewhere in between of any other updates of software on the computer, there must be a conflict. My player will become recognizable once in a blue moon, which also leads to the conclusion of software conflict, or possibly IRQ issue.
Maybe the latest driver just released may fix the issues of eliminating if it doesn't cause any conflicts with other softwares that are on your system for your Micro to be recognized.

  • Zen Micro - MTP playback control functional

I want to buy a zen micro v2 which supports MTP.
I know that the v2 version of Zen Micro is MTP enabled player.
Microsoft has released MTP specification 0.83, which does not have playback control functionality. Mocrosoft has said that it will release the specification for this playback control in one or two months of time. But they have released an intermediate version of this MTP which has this playback control functionality.
A scenario to understand my question:
When you connect Zen Micro to a car stereo system, you can not control its playback functionality from the car stereo's head unit. To be more specific you can not issue Play/Pause/Stop/Volume increase/Volume decrease commands from the car stereo's head unit.
So please tell whether zen micro has this support? If not will it be providing this functionality in the coming months?
please suggest me any other Zen palyers which has this functionality.
    Thanks in advance,
    Regards.

DM, the Micro's remote control works exactly as you suggested; it's an inline remote that plugs into the headphone jack, and the headphones plug into the remote.
Unfortunately, I think the problem is more along the lines of car audio manufacturers' willingness to design a physical interface between a car stereo and the Micro than anything in the MTP spec. Microsoft can enable this kind of control in the MTP spec all it wants to, but until manufacturers are willing to use physical interfaces other than the iPod dock connector, it's all for naught.

It has been reported by some of our customers that they have experienced reduced battery life after charging their Zen Micro. Our product development team has researched these reports and determined that the users may have experienced this after they plugged their Zen Micro into the AC adapter that was already inserted into a wall socket with the AC power on.
While this is not the conventional way to plug in a player for charging, we wanted to ensure that our customers did not experience this problem, so we have developed a solution to address this, which simply involves upgrading the Zen Micro's firmware.
If you need assistance in doing this, please contact our customer support team and they will be happy to assist you.

  • Zen Micro Problems / Firmw

I'm fairly new to the whole MP3 player thing. I got my Black Zen Micro in May; I haven't had any problems since. Recently, within the past two weeks or so, my player has frozen. I think it has been only the once, having to remove the battery in order to get it to turn off. Also, when trying to upload music onto my MP3 player, I can upload it fine using the software, but when taking the lead out it freezes and only about, 3 songs if I'm lucky load onto it. Things have been mentioned about firmware and such, but I have never downloaded or used it. As I am new to things, if you have any suggestions could you please keep it simple? =D I am from the UK but the school doesn't let me get on the UK forums. I've heard this quite a lot, and read one post about it, but it doesn't help because I don't really understand it much.. Is it a common problem? I brought my Zen from Amazon - Does anyone know if you can send it back to them due to the problems, or send it to Zen if nothing happens and it still doesn't work? Thanks in advance.

See the "My Zen is not behaving properly, and/or won't startup, or goes into rescue mode. What should I do?" section of the FAQ post.

My advice is get the ..0 firmware and apply this.

  • Petition: Fix Zen Micro / Napster2Go Firmwa

Just a petition for those many of us suffering from Creative's lack of stable Napster2Go-compatible firmware for the Zen Micro!
Maybe this thread will give us an idea of just how many people have the licensing (or "Playback Error") issues with the Napster2Go service, or at least those that are monitoring this forum. If you are reading this because you have the same problem (but have not registered, as I also was guilty of), please register and make sure you're known!
P.S. Let's try to keep this thread from becoming a big complaint-fest with the Creative support people ... there are already plenty of those threads (and with little success, mind you). Please just post a single reply and be counted!Message Edited by dabretty on 02-25-2005 03:4 AM

count me in. i'd also like to know if there is some sort of official place to post my beta testing results. what's the point of doing beta testing if your testors have no way to relay their results? i'd rather not post to the board (tho it might not be such a bad idea) but i'd like to be sure it gets in the hands of the programmers and not some admin assistant flunky :smileysurprised::smileyvery-happy:

  • Zen micro update firmw

Help, has installed the new firmware of the creative micro zen and now he is dead.

Try going into Recovery Mode on the player, and choose Clean Up there first. If that doesn't help, try Reload OS. When it has done that, connect the player to the PC and update the firmware again.
If that doesn't help, or you can't get it to Reload the firmware (or enter Recovery Mode), then it's possible there's a problem with the unit. I'd advise you contact Customer Support for assistance in that case.

  • Zen Micro not recognised after installing Media Player 11 Bet

    Can anyone help?
I've updated Windows Media Player 0 to version Beta 2 and now my Zen Micro (Firmware 2.2.02 Playforsure) isn't recognised anyway on my system.
I've tried to re-install the CD but this doesn't do anything. I've download all the updates I can find on Creative's website and that does nothing.
I can't even use the Zen Micro MTP exlorer as this has disappeared off my system.
    I'm running Windows XP SP2.
    HELP!

The problem will be the same I would think because the issue is that the player is an older one, so WMP does not recognise it. Unless they change it in te full version, which is probably only a slim chance, you will still need to download the hotfix and the other update.
But if i were you i wait for the full version anyway, the Beta 2 is better but still far from perfect...

  • Creative Zen Micro 6GB/Problems with Power Switch and Firmw

The power switch on my Zen Micro has died. I can't turn it on or off unless I 'jump start' it from a USB cable and leave it alone to go into idle shutdown. I've had this player just three weeks and this is happened and frankly I'm disgusted. But wait, my story get's worse:
So before sending it back to Creative I thought that I should at least exhaust every possible cure. First on my list? A Firmware upgrade to v2.22.05. I downloaded the program and set about installing the new firmware but halfway through the process it hung and I had to end it prematurely. Now what I had was a ZM that apparently had v2.22.05 but was not being recognised at all by my computer. Media Explorer wasn't picking up on it and neither was WMP although strangely when I connect the device it's there in the Device Manager...
So, check back with the website and it said to download an update for Mediasource and that should solve the problem. Downloaded the patch but then realised that I hadn't installed Mediasource on my computer (can't remember why I didn't though). Went back to the downloads page and downloaded Mediasource. Tried to install it but I can't. The reason? because my computer isn't detecting the ZM and I can't install it until it recognises that it's there.
As a last resort I thought that I would try to use 'Rescue Mode'. Seemed simple enough, remove the battery and hold down the power switch. Then put the battery back in and wait for the rescue screen to come up. Seems easy enough. Oh wait, I don't have a working power switch.
What I do have though, is a small piece of plastic and metal that I can't turn on, can't turn off, can't put any songs on, can't listen to, can't fix and can't be bothered with. I have a ?60 paperweight.
Anyone at all have any idea what I should do? I just want to put it all in a box and send it back to Amazon with a request for a full refund or a threat to take them to the Small Claims Court.

Although a failed power switch is not unknown, I only recall seeing two or three other cases of this. It's not common.
If WMP isn't working with the device having v2 firmware something is wrong. Unfortunately this can be difficult to fix, but take a look here in the Zen FAQ at Nomadness.net.
MediaSource won't detect the player if there's some issue e.g. WMP0 not detecting it. You can of course also try installing Zen Micro Media Explorer (Creative Zen Micro Media Explorer Web Update to be specific) which has MTP support.
Are you are presumably under guarantee, and as you bought from an Internet store, it's best to return it direct to Creative. Contact Creative Support to arrange this.

  • Zen Micro detected as MTP Device? Is that norm

The Zen Micro drivers under C:\Program Files\Creative\Jukebox 3 Drivers\ no longer work after the firmware upgrade, but I was able to install it as a generic "MTP Device". Is this normal? Shouldn't it be labeled as Creative Zen Micro and not MTP Device?
It still works with WMA and Napster To Go, but I'm concerned that I cannot install the Zen Micro Media Explorer because it cannot find the player.

I'm having the same problem!!? Today I downloaded the latest firmware (2.2.02) to see if it would then allow me to transfer a Real Player download I bought (it didn't, that's a whole separate, awful problem).
After I downloaded the firmware, now when I connect my Zen Micro player by USB, the computer detects it as an MTP device and neither my Zen Micro MEdia Explorer software nor the Creative MediaSource Organizer will recognize it!!
I had to re-transfer all my songs just with windows?folders copying files from one folder to the "mtp device".
What?does this MTP device mean? Why did this change? Is my creative software now useless?
    Any help? thanks so much!!

  • Zen Micro with PC connection Problems and no firmw

I'm running on Windows XP Service Pack 2 and I have Windows Media Player 0.
...and my Zen Micro wouldn't be detected, so I formatted it completely and I tried reloading the firmware. My old Zen Micro with v firmware still connects perfectly well, but Windows just doesn't detect my v2 firmware (now no firmware) Zen Micro.
    Advice, please?
    :edit:
Windows DOES detect my Zen Micro now...but I still can't do anything with it. It appears as MTP player connected:

    bkBlade,
Check this Knowledgebase article SID0053 and make sure the USB registry entry is correct. If you do make changes to the registry base on the Knowledgebase info, then try reloading the v2 firmware again.

  • Upgrading ZEN Micro firmw

I am planning to upgrade the firmware of my ZEN Micro to ver. 2.2

Here is a note I sent to the Creative support folks. They simply suggested I go back to firmware .0.03.
I have to admit, going back to the other firmware update does not seem to be the true resolution, but I really don't have any more time to waste fixing your bugs. So, I am now on .0.03. It's a good thing I synchronized all 920+ songs, or I would not be a happy camper right now. :-)
I will tell you it appears to be a multiple USB issue with your new firmware. I experimented with this, and found that if I have my iPAQ connected into my USB ports, as well as my USB mouse, my USB CD/DVD dri've and my USB Keyboard, the MTP explorer will not recognize the Zen Micro.
When I take the iPAQ out, magically, the Zen Micro gets recognized and the MTP Explorer is working. THIS ONLY HAPPENS WITH THE MTP FIRMWARE!!
I am now back to the .0.03 release of the firmware and none if this happens. As I write this to you, I have everything connected and I am ripping a CD to my device - no problems. I am fortunate however to have a laptop that I was able to do this with, otherwise I would be in the same place others are, and the upgrade frimware doesn't ever recognize the Zen Micro, even though it is in the Device Manager. ?
So, I would say, that your MTP firmware takes control too much, and seems to substitute for something like an iPAQ, where they cannot co-exist or other USB harware, such as a memory reader (CF, SmartMemory, etc.). This is not a PC USB issue, in my mind. It is a firmware issue that is causing the conflict.
    Thanks.

  • Upgrading Zen Micro Firmwa

if I upgrade the Zen Micro to the NEWEST available firmware...will I still be able to use Zen Micro Media Explorer? I love the program..
the new firmware uses WMP, am I right? anyone use WMP as the main software for putting songs on your player, etc. Is it better?

There is a latest MTP firmware and a latest non-MTP firmware. Note that for MTP firmware, if you view the tracks in your Zen Micro on the PC, you will see that the track organization is by folders, just like the way files are organized in your PC. For non-MTP firmware, you will see that the track organization is by library.
There is also a MTP version of the latest Zen Micro Media Explorer and a MTP version oif the latest Creative MediaSource for download.
