Zen Micro Napster to Go Transfer Err

I've been using NTG with my Micro for a year with limited problems. Yesterday I got a message - device full. I cleaned up my playlists and tried to transfer (drag and drop) and got multiple transfer errors.
I have reformatted the device (via windows right click) and have re-downloaded the December firmware.
I am still having issues. Basically -- I can download a playlist (or sometimes two) but then I start getting transfer errors and the device and Napster freeze up. Eventually, both systems work again, but none of the tracks will have transferred.
I have re-formatted the device multiple times and tried different playlists. It doesn't matter the size of the playlist, what list I transfer or in what order. Eventually, the transfer errors start and I can't download.
I tried disconnecting, re-starting my PC and device, but that does nothing. I can always get another playlist or two by reformatting the device but then of course - I'm back at square one.
Really would appreciate any help anyone can give. Thanks.

Hi -- Actually - wasn't aware of that - but I had started Napster just to see what happened - and nothing.
That being said - I e-mailed help desk and got another series of steps to get the device to be recognized. Different drivers to download, etc.
After a few more hours of playing with it - I was able to reconnect and when I reconnected to Napster - the transfer errors were gone.
I'm not posting the steps only because I'm not exactly sure what caused it to stop being recognized in the first place and then what caused it to start transferring again. Personally -- I think it was when I threatened to replace it with an IPOD
Just really glad to have it back!! Thanks all for your assistnce.

So after i have to go into recovery mode. When i clean the % goes over 800%, sometimes 000%. For "cleaning" it takes at least 2/3 minuts. After i reboot. The 2? or 3. time i can transfer the music (by now). Sometimes i have to convert with Altomp3 Gold the songs i cant transfert from Mp3 to Mp3 but using the default settings of this softwere (28bit)My questions are:Why i cant transfer music at the first try?I should format often? Why the "cleaning" goes over 800%?Thank's for any answer

  • Zen Micro & I-Tunes music transfer

My DH just bought me a Zen Micro. I have already amassed quite a collection on my computer (Toshiba-Satellite Running XP) I have amassed this collection via I-Tunes. When I have tried to transfer my folders from my I-Tunes library to the Creative Library... I was told Creative doesn't recognize the format in which they are in. I-Tunes show they are MP4's and I have changed the settings on Creative to recognize all the available types of sound files. So does anyone know of a converter for this type of problem or am I just up a creek without a paddle? Thanks! - gjkecarlson

The key here, is are they from the iTunes Store or just encoded from your own CDs?
If they're from the iTunes Store then you can either burn to CDRW and rip again as MP3/WMA, or use JHymn (Google the name).
If they're from your own CDs and without protection iTunes can convert them to MP3s. This is probably the easiest option. I'm not sure if MediaSource will, but there's loads of others that can failing iTunes.

  • Zen Micro USB 2.0 Transfer Rate Prob

    Hi all!
I have searched through the posts here and havn't found a definiti've answer to my question. My question is:
Do you have to be running Creative Media Source in order to get the full USB 2.0 Transfer Rate capability from the Zen Micro?
I have noticed that I have had some pretty slow transfer rates with Windows Media Player 0 but the rate is lightning fast in Creative Media Source. Maybe I am missing some sort of setting.
On another note, I have noticed the sensitivity of the Touch Pad on my Zen Micro is kinda flakey. Sometimes it's very sensitve and sometimes parts of the pad are totally unresponsi've. Here is my observation on the matter. When you turn the player on, the power button snaps back into the other direction if you let go if it quickly. When this happens the button is on the edge of being locked/unlocked so it is sort of intermitantly shorting out. If i slide the button slightly to the left and then let go, the full functionality of the pad is then restored. I think maybe the spring that keeps the button from staying in the off position is too large a spring and needs to be shortened.

my bad, but i should have mentioned that I have a zen touch 40 gig rather than a micro. So I guess no solution yet in my case. It just seems to me that Creative is paying much more attention to the Micro
(MTP support, new firmwares,...) than to their other players, including the touch. they have been talking about a firmware upgrade for the "touch" for months now, but still nothing. The only reason I did not purchase a micro was for its capacity. other than that, not only it gets more development and support attention, but the interface of the player is much better than the Touch, and it seems to work like a charm with WMP 0. Why couldn't they carry the 20Gig micro in North America....
Well enough nagging. Thanks for your reply. Now has anybody solved this slow transfer issue on Zen Touch? i got a feeling the answer is no...

  • Zen Micro: Best way to transfer mus

I'm struggling with this, very confusing.

Creative Media Source is an all-in-one media program similar to Windows Media Player. It allows you to rip CD's, manage your music, etc....
You use Zen Media Explorer (with firmware version .0.03 or older) to manage all your media inside of the player itself. This includes tranfer of music to and from the player
You use Windows Media Player 0 (with firmware version 2) to do the tranferring and organization. v2 of the firmware allows you to connect to any WinXP system with WMP 0 via USB and not install any Creative drivers to tranfer music. It's not "drag and drop" but it is tons more convenient.

Name the songs with the info you need on your PC and in Zen Media Explorer select the option to tag the song according to the file structure in your computer. In the Micro it will show up under Track Title as what you've typed in
As a suggestion I would stick with firmware version .0.03 and use Zen Media Explorer because I've heard of some software conflicts in XP with v2.

  • Creative zen micro transfer prob

When using Napster to transfer songs to my zen micro mp3 player the following happens.
License storgae is not working.Contact microsoft product support.
When I hit click here for more information nothing happens.
It has worked previously without any problems! Can anybody help??

Here is a list of things to check:
) Confirm you have Windows Media Player 0 installed on your XP SP or later system.
    2) Confirm your Zen Micro has the latest 2.x firmware (2..02 Beta or later). The .x firmware does not support N2G. Download the 2..02 Beta firmware from http://us.creative.com/support/downloads
    3) Confirm KB8922 "Update for Windows Media Digital Rights Management-enabled players" is installed on your XP SP or later system with WMP 0. See http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;8922 for details.
    4) Confirm your Zen Micro's system time is synched to the system time of your computer.
    5) Confirm XP and the Napster client recognize your Zen Micro is connected. It should display under the "Portable Device" object in the "Library" window of the Napster client. The Zen Micro Display should read "Docked". See if you can transfer files using WMP 0. Confirm the Creative Zen Micro Media Explorer version .00. ( http://us.creative.com/support/downloads ) can access your Zen Micro. Can it transfer tracks to the device?
    6) Confirm your firewall is not interfering with the connection to Napster or to the internet for current date and time. Consider disabling firewall, Antivirus, and Spyware Scanners as a diagnostic step to troubleshoot your transfer issue.
    7) Consider reinstalling Windows Media Player 0 and KB8922.
    8) Check the USB cable connection. Determine the USB chipset on your system. There are forum threads where users resolved transfer problems by installing a new USB Adapter with a different chipset or determined the problem was the USB cable. You can also troubleshoot by attempting the transfer on another computer (if available).

  • New Zen Micro - Few Questi

I intallled the software and let it charge. Is it done charging when the lights stay off?
How do i turn off the zen micro?
When i transfer songs to it, can i leave the songs in the file folders that organise the songs by album?

you can generally transfer the folder of files, i've never tried dragging the folder its self to the player but it might work.
the player doesnt come up as a dri've letter just a device, but yer.
you can use any software compatable with it, i mainly use real player or zen micro media explorer, or if im already in it winamp (with plug in). use what ever software your most cumfortable with. WMP mand music match also support it.im sure there are lots of things otu there that will.
you can view by album, its not orgaising the music its displaying it in that way, just go to music libary, on the player, then select album.
means its new mine came with .0.03, im not running ..0 and happy with it, V2 is play for sure, so its down through WMP.

  • Zen Micro Photo USB & Battery quest

I bought a zen micro when they first came out about 2-3 years ago. Well the dreaded headphone jack issue has finally gotten to me. So I just bought a zen micro photo. Was on sale here for $00 so I figured y not buy it! My question is this:?) the usb cable that comes with the photo is alot shorter than the regualr zen micro. Can I use the regular zen micros usb cable to transfer songs?2) I have 2 batteries for the regular micro. Would those work with the photo??

    Hi,
Yes, they both have the same mini USB connection so the cable is the same type.
As far as the battery goes, it would work, but the Zen Micro battery is not as powerful so the battery life will not be as long.

  • Zen Micro 2.21.02 WMP trou

Hello everyone, thanks for reading. I'm from Chile, South America (I speak spanish), but I'll try to do my best English.
Well I received a Zen Micro for xmas =D. I updated its original firmware to 2.2.02, and all Creative software (including mediasource, media explorer, sync manager, etc), from Creative website. I have all my media organized in Windows Media Player 0.00.00.3802, because I think is easy to find and listen. My music is almost all in playlists (example "summer 2005"). So well, I syncronized a playlist from my pc to Zen Micro using WMP. Transfer was 00% OK, but then I checked my Micro, all songs of the playlist went copied "separately". I mean, all songs are there but the playlist itself doesn't. If I go to "music library" in my zen, then "playlists", I see nothing. But if I go to "artists" or "all tracks", songs are there (but of course, is not the same than having them ordered and "playing with one click").
So I tried Creative Mediasource 3.30.2, I imported my music library from WMP, and then transferred the playlist to Zen Micro. In that case, playlist was copied with the songs. That is what I want to do. There's something I should check on WMP preferences? Because it'll be muuuuuch more easy doing all from WMP, so I use WMP from many time ago and I like it.
    thank you!
I hope you understand my trouble.
    greets from Chile

I know with WMP you have to autosync the playlists, although I've never tried it myself. Does this thread help?

  • Zen Micro and Napster to

I just bought the Zen Micro and have updated my firmware as Napster to Go wants me too, but it seems like I have to update my firmware almost everytime I log on to Napster and try and download songs. Does nayone know fi this is an issue with Napster or with Creative. It sucks to have to update it everytime because then it wipes out everything on my Zen Micro and I have to download the playlists again. I'm new to all this too, so maybe it's something I'm doing wrong or missing? Help!
Also, is there another music download site that might work better with the Zen Micro?
I'd appreciate any help I can get. Thanks!

I'm not a serious tech head, but I know enough to use the stuff that I buy. Basically, mine doesn't recognize my player 00% of the time either, I usually just disconnect my player and restart... I guess the software and stuff is an inexact science. I figure that as long as you can transfer songs to the player then your cool, and it will usually allow you to do that.

  • Zen Micro transfer probl

At first I thought it was Napster, but...
When I try to transfer to my Zen Micro from Napster To Go, I get errors and have to ctrl-alt-del Napster. So I went to Creative MediaSource Organizer and tried to transfer from there... the same thing happens. I get errors and have to ctrl-alt-del. I can transfer the first few songs, but the transfer is VERY slow, and I eventually get the errors again.
I've tried reinstalling *everything*, including formatting my Micro and reinstalling the firmware and drivers. Has anyone had a problem with this? Is there some setting I should change on my computer?

  • Zen Micro Firmware update - Now can't transfer W

I loaded my WMA files to my new ZEN MICRO 4Gb player... Then I signed up for Napster to Go...Said I need a firmware update...did the update...Had reload again...but, now all my transfers of WMA files fail! MP3 files work fine...Anyone have the issue before?

Ever since I upgraded the firmware for the micro, I have been unable to transfer WMAs via Media Player v0 or Creative MediaSource. The error I receive is "An error has occurred while transferring this file". This only occurs on WMAs. MP3s transfer fine.

  • Zen Micro - transfer lock ups with latest firmwa

I've been trying to transfer mp3 files to my firmware upgraded Zen Micro and find that the transfer slows down and then locks the player after 30-40 files have successfully copied. This happens with ..0 and 2.2.02 firmwares.
The player will then remain in a 'acti've' docked state (black arrows) until the battery is removed. After this lock up tags on the mp3 files are messed up and display Chinese looking characters in the Details View.
This happens on two different computers with USB2.0, one Intel based and the other AMD.
Two questions - anyone know if this is a known issue being worked on for an imminent firmware update? And secondly - is the problem aggravated (or even created) because I am trying to copy files over from a directory tree (mp3's sorted into artist/album/ folders) rather than one flat folder with all mp3s in it (ie. in one single folder).

I'd try transferring fewer files at a time and see if that works.
You might be on to something with copying from a directory tree too. See if transferring the files in smaller groups from one folder helps out.
You can always organize the artists/albums later in Zen Micro Media Explorer or Creative MediaSource.
