Zen Micro - New Models and Australian Pric

I am looking at purchasing a Zen Micro however before I do I have a few queries:
** According to the US Creative website, a 4GB and 6GB Micro will be launched very soon.
) Does anyone know when these variations will be available in Australia?
2) And will they have any different features to the 5GB model (apart from differing memory)?
** The US pricing is around 20% cheaper than Aussie prices. Currently the 5GB model retails for ~A$370 in Australia vs ~US$229 (A$290) in the US.
3) What is the reason for the difference in price?
4) What are the anticipated prices for the 4GB and 6GB models (when released)?
5) Should I hold off my purchase until the next round of price drops hit Australia?

5. There's always some price drop around the corner
Well I was going to buy a Zen Micro 5GB today, but now I am going to hang out and see if I can pick up a 6GB for around the same price. Hopefully these hit Australia shores, at a reasonable price soon. Does anyone have an inkling on how long products take to hit Australia? (Weeks/months)?[/b]
This has been the most dynamic few months in the MP3 market for sometime. *Fingers crossed* Creative can keep competiti've against Apple - Apple's recent price drop almost saw me rush out and buy a new mini (even with all it's limitations).

• Zen Micro has died and I need to fix it myse

Hi,
I was using my Zen Micro one particular morning for a couple of hours (full battery) where everything was working perfectly. Later that afternoon I attempted to turn it on but nothing happened, not a single thing. Nothing lit up, I couldn't hear the HDD sound either. I thought at first it could be the battery, so when I got home I tried running it from the charger with and without the battery, both times nothing happened.
Under normal circumstances my first course of action would be to simply to get a replacement however I don't believe that will be possible as I voided the warranty recently by fixing the infamous jack problem. I fixed it myself because getting a replacement seems futile as all Zen Micro's continue to have the same design flaw.
Does anyone have any idea why my Zen has completely died on me?
Any chance I can I get a replacement?
Can any of you tell me how I could possibly fix it myself (I take full responsibility if anything breaks)?Message Edited by mark_s on -0-2005 2:05 AM

5G Zen Micro, green
Hey, I had my zen micro for a long time since aug 9 and yesterday it broke down on me. Somehow I can't play anything. When I turn it on, it freezes and doesn't go to the menu. I tried using the recovery mode and clean it up but it froze again.
I don't know how i'm going to send it back to the factury to repair it. My micro was previously repaired like two weeks ago. The bad news is that sending back the my micro requires the reciet, but I have given it to them before and I was sure that they would give it back, but no. So how can I send it back without a reciet.

• Zen Micro - New Downloads - Applications (With or without *PlaysForSu

Are these entirely NEW applications or Upgrades to the current Explorer, Sync Mgr, Import Wiz, CD Rip Wiz software ?
Will there be any selections required when executing ZENM_PCAPP_LB__00__MTP.exe ?
Please advise...
Thanks in Advance...

Sharkman205,
The install only requires that you have the drivers for the Zen Micro installed and have the MTP firmware installed. They contain the entire application.
The Firmware requires that the drivers for the Zen Micro are installed. You will also want to back up your songs. Otherwise it should be an easy operation to install the upgrade.

• I can´t organize files on my Zen Micro using MP10 (and can I get rid of the firmwar

Hi, I installed the software that came with the Zen, the first one hung up my computer (forgot what it was called) but media explorer seemed to work ok. I was recommended to install the firmare so that I could transfer files using MP0. I did this (one of the earlier versions). I drag and drop my music folders into MP0 and sincronize but when they are transfered I get new folder created with new names onto my Zen (album names, song names etc.) everything disordered and many folders with only one song in them. I can't seem to figure out how to organize my music. Is there a way of reformatting the player, get rid of the firmware and make it work properly with media explorer again (since media explorer doesn?t recognise the player after the firmware instalation) Please help, the sound quality of this player is great but music transfers and organizing is giving me a big headache.

Ear-Rock,
You can download the version of Zen Micro Media Explorer that support the MTP firmware you have now on the player. The version is 4.00.8 and is available on the website. You can also change the firmware to the PDE one by downloading and installing the PDE firmware version .02.05.

• ZEN MICRO - White Scren and impossible to run Recovery M

Hi,
I wrote to Creative support but not received any info to be able to fix the problem with my device.
It seems that it works connected to the PC. I am able to read the files.
BUT
The screen is 3 seconds white, without any written and then go off immediately.
I tried to run the Recovery mode as suggested and also I have upgrated the firmware.
NO CHANCE....
What's happend?
What I have to do?
Do _I have to repair ir? IS It broken?
thanks!

I'm experiencing the same confusion myself.
My Micro came with .02.05 f/w installed. It's not the firmware itself that is confusing; it's the accompanying software. After using it for a few days I decided that I want to continue using it without MTP, so I set out to upgrade to the ..0 f/w. Here's what I find on the Creative support site:
* I selected "Step by Step Zen Micro Firmware Upgrade Guide"
* Next I selected "Zen Micro Upgrade Application Guide" and "Windows XP"
* Here I selected "No" for Would you like to use on-line music subscription services?"
* Now the conflicting direction. The next page, which is for NO music subscriptions, says I need the following software:
Latest Creative Application Package
Zen Micro Media Explorer for Creative Zen Micro without PlaysForSure functionality
This software update package is for Zen Micro Media Explorer (version 4.00.3 or earlier) users only. This package contains the following updated applications:
* Zen Micro Media Explorer (version 4.00.8)
* Sync Manager (version 4.00.5)
* Jukebox Type II Plugin (version 2.00.07)
Zen Micro Media Explorer 4.00.8 for Creative Zen Micro (Software Update Package for Zen Micro Players without *PlaysForSure/MTP Firmware)
ZENM-WBPDE--LB.
* However clicking on the above link brings me to a download page which says this:
Filename: ZENM_PCAPP_LB_MTP_PDE.exe
Creative Zen Micro Media Explorer Web Update
ZENM-WEBUP--LB
This web update enables you to enjoy new and improved features for your Zen Micro player.
This web update package includes the following applications:
* Zen Micro Media Explorer (version 4.00.27)
* Zen Micro Media Explorer (PlaysForSure?) (version .00.2)
* Sync Manager (version 4.60.0)
* Import Wizard (version .60.2)
* CD Ripping Wizard (version .60.09)
Note the difference in version numbers? Which do I really need for Micro firmware ..0? (BTW, this board s/w is terrible - why no BBCode?).
Thanks for any help here.

• Creative Zen Micro: Driver problems and mo

Hello, hope somebody can help me out a bit here.
My Creative Zen Micro seems to have stumbled rather severely. I get a firmware error and the recovery menu. I've tried the Clean Up tool, Formatting it, and reloading the firmware doesn't work at all, as the Zen won't connect properly on my Win2k box (probably due to the lack of support for it on Win2k).
It does connect (sort of) in Windows Media Player, which is where I transferred most of my music to begin with, though now it displays nothing in the contents of the Zens harddisk (obviously this was before I formatted my Zen).
So I tried installing the drivers on my new computer which runs Windows XP SP2. The drivers install, but Windows doesn't seem to care. When I plug in the Zen I get a "Found New Hardware" message, however it can't seem to locate the drivers I just installed.
I think I might be able to get things going right if only the drivers would work on WinXP. Or it might just be that the Zen is totally borked. I'm unsure.
Any thoughts?

Really hate to bump my own thread.. but.. anyone have any ideas what to do?

• ZEN Micro locking up, and wont "talk" to my

I bought my ZEN micro about 30 days ago. It was working great until this am. I turned it on and it locked on the "Creative" logo. I tried removing the battery, but it did it again. Removing the battery waws the only way to make it cut off. I tried a "Scan disk" in recovery mode, but all it did was lock up while scanning. I cant get it to "talk" to my laptop via the USB and Im totally stumped. The bad thing is that I lost my dang Wal Mart reciept and I dont think they will take the thing back. Im at a total loss. The unit was working fine wednesday and I havetn used it since then, well this morning I tried.....
Should I try to format it's
The USB will give the unit power, but the computer doesnt show that its hooked up....
Help?

My micro is at the labs as we speak for warentee work. But this was not without scads of problems. I bought it at Wal mart and was told I had 90days to return it. (I'd had it like 30) so on day 3 I go into the store to get another and Im hit with the "new policy". That policy stated that all "digital music players" must be returned in 5 days. Not like everything else with 30 or 90 days, but 5. I asked when did they change this policy, and was told "about 3 weeks ago". So I said "well since I bought it under the old policy and was told I had 90 days, you have to honor that" I was told the policy was on the wall and it was too bad and it was "not their problem" and to "leave". I was polite talking to this manager, never raised my voice, no cursing or anything and I was told to leave! I was furious!
SO I called the company (emailed the first time) and the guy was really nice, he told me that Wal-mart hadnt sold one of those in over a year according to his computer and was shocked I was able to buy one. But he tried to get me to reset it, (failed) and I explained that the email instructed me to this area where the instructions were posted and I did all I could.
Long story short (too late), its at the "lab" now. It took them several days to even acknologe it was there and they havent sent me the first email (as promised) that they had it. So I wait. I sure hope they are able to fix it, I spent alot of money on that thing and I'd hate to think that it was a waste.

• Zen micro with playforsure and removable d

if u have the playsforsure firmware installed on your zen micro, can you still use the removable disk function on computers without windows xp. also, can you still charge it on computer without windows xp?

88888888,
If you have the PlayForSure firmware, yes you can still use the Removable Disk feature of the player and it's also a yes for charging. Just make sure you slide the power switch to Lock position when you're charging.

• Cheap/free DIY Zen Micro/Photo Case and wall charg

Ahoy! I've been on the Head-Fi forums and figured to check out these and didnt find much.
Its simple to make a hardcase for your Zen Micro or Micro Photo, check out mine!
I used a penguins mint tin, (like Altoids but caffinated)
also, the standard wall charger for USB motorola phones will charge your Zen Micro Photo
its still a 5v usb charger, it works and you can find them cheaper than one from
creative

[url="http://photobucket.com/">[/url]
[url="http://photobucket.com/">[/url]
This was very easy to do.
Take the mint tin, trace it onto the back of a peice of foam (the white plasticy side)
cut slightly inside the line, about /3 a centimeter.
measure the height of the tin and take about /5 to /4 of a cm off of that and cut straight down the long edge of the foam, its an exact fit (if you want it fitted like mine)
you will need TWO of these, its double layered
Check the fit of the peice before you place anything.
i placed the sides first but do whatever you find easiest.
fold the long peices in half to find the center and just start applying from the bottom of the tin.
next, cut a peice big enough to cover your screen but not the buttons.
take the sticky side off and lay the foam, sticky side up, onto the screen. close the tin.
Your MOST of the way done
now take a dremel (what i used) or what ever else. maybe a nail and hammer the corners and scisor the between? (that may be sharp)
and you have yoruself a great case everyone will marvel at and youll be proud of it, post your pics here or atleast email me at [email protected]

I deal with the slight buzzing while the screen is on, i just haev my screen cut off in 0sec of idle and its good to go, thats a known bug.
Also, one time my zen kinda froze booting but that was a fluke adn has been fine since then.
I Love my hard case i made, it has a mysterious ding in it but that just means that i spared my zen from that same ding.
I've been IM'd and asked abotu it overheating in the enclosure and i've used it in the sun for hours on end and the zen itself stays cool, i dont think there is a problem with that at all.
If you rmaking one know that its one layer of foam on the bottom and two on the sides.
the easiest way to apply the screen protector is to peel the sticky off of lay it on the screen, sticky side up and then just close the lid.
I had the idea of putting a hole in the lid where the screen is and glueing the clear plastic from a CD case but scrapped that idea because it would look tacky and get dirty.

• Zen Micro- No warranty and broken headphone ja

I bought a Zen Micro recently off ebay, and when I got it it turned on and everything went fine, until i plugged in the headphones. I can get it so the headphones work perfectly, but if it moves the slightest bit the sound switches to one-channel, shuts off, or just craps out. There is obviously no warranty, but i would be willing to pay for a fix, whether it be to Creative themselves, or to a repair shop. I have tried multiple earbuds and headphones, and they all have the same problem. Any help?
Thanks,
Chris

I have almost the exact same problem. I bought my Zen Jukebox Xtra just under a year ago, but last month my headphone jack started malfunctioning so that I could only get earplug to play at a time unless I held the male end just right into the connection. I just want to know of an approved place to get it fixed, if there is such a place, or how I would go through Creative to pay for repair. Sorry I'm no help to you, but at least you aren't alone.
Edit: After checking the forums like I guess I should've done first, I found a nice thread about the same thing, and if you follow the links you can find a do-it-yourself website if you trust your soldering skills. The link is here. Hope that hel
ps.

• Zen Micro New Firmware controlling Usb Charg

Is there any possibility to create a new firmware (for ZEN MICRO) that offers us to make disable / able usb charging.

• Zen micro startup picture and EAX setti

Zen micro has a possibility to change the startup picture, doesn't it's In the creative mediasource there is an option Change the startup picture (below EAX settings) but it's not acti've, I mean you can't do anything with it. I would love to change the Creative animation for something else but I don't know how, it's just the same with the EAX settings.

No, you can't change the startup screen on the Micro. It is greyed out in MediaSource, because this software is also used for players that CAN change the startup screen.
And indeed, as bloodangel05 says, the Micro has no EAX

• Zen Micro - TouchPad problem and 2 suggest

Hi all,
i've bough Zen Micro just a week ago, and it works well with the standard song inside it.
then, installed the CD, upgrade all by support download and also upgrade the firmware.
When i've unplugged USB my touchpad seems not responding, also the power button. the only method to turn off it is removing the battery. -.-"
the only think that works are the volume (just up and down, but not click) and the hold on position. the other think outside the pad seems works well, it can connect to PC, can delete file, and so on.
i just put it without battery some days and when try to re-use, it works perfectly!
now i've upgrade the firmware to .0 and go back to the official released avaiable, and that happens again! but now also the volume pad don't work at all...
I think that it's only a software problem, but i can't reboot the player because my pad don't works !!!
but when i insert the battery and press the hold on the rescue menu appears, but the same button don't work for turn the zen off.
What can i do ?
Can have the 4 safety menu option via software? (suggest)
oh another stupid think, OT : when register in creative support, plz make the text box with the term of use readonly, because i can delete all the condition and press AGREE, so i think i virtually have no condition
sorry for my bad english,
regards

If the controls aren't working in Rescue Mode the player is faulty unfortunately. You need to contact Creative Support.

• [Zen Micro] New Firmware 1.10.02 - standby adjustme

Just downloaded this firmware but have not installed it:
Creative Zen Micro Firmware .0.02
"This web release enables you to upgrade the firmware for your , 4, 5 or 6GB Creative Zen Micro player.
You can upgrade from Creative Zen Micro firmware .02.05 or earlier, or Zen Micro PlaysForSure? firmware 2.00.2 or later. After upgrading, you cannot go back to a previous Creative Zen Micro firmware version."
====
I do not want to install this to my Micro if I cannot go back to a firmware that I know works (.02.05), but it is (I think) the latest ... There is however, nothing in the description that says this is the firmware that will allow for a shorter standby time.
Any brave souls want to give this a try and report on it ...
I'm too chicken when it comes to 'no rollback firmware'.
jake

belay that and sorry for posting this without thoroughly searching through the forum ...
From a post on nomadness.net:
All,
.0.02 is the PDE firmware that enables the 4hr. standby timer. There will be an MTP version that does this also, however the PDE firmware was ready first so we released it ASAP.
