Zen micro not connect

after installing all the software on my computer (xp with all sservice packs),
the device shows up. but when you click on icon, it states that the zen is not connected?
installed it on different computer and it works fine,
can anybody PLEASE help me?
ps: does zen micro only work with usb2?
kai

the micro is backwardly compatable with USB aswell as working with USB 2.
often the front ports on a pc run on a built in hub, and the micro often has problems when connected through a hub, because it charges via usb port it requires a lot of power, the full 500mA offered by usb ports and through a non powered usb hub the micro often doesnt get enough power to function. so the usb ports at the back are usially the safest.
if the device is showing up in device manager, i suggest a full software instalation. encase something went wrong with it, also you could try updating the player firmware. what firmware do you currently have?

  • Zen Micro "not connected" problem since upgrading firmw

    Hi All,
I have had the zen micro for a week and it has been working fine with original firmware & software supplied on CD.
After noticing the battery life was poor, I decided to upgrade the firmware.
This is where all my troubles began...
After upgrading the firmware to 2.00.2 I found that when I connected my player it was now recognised at an MTP device and windows asks me if I would like WMP (windows media player) to sync with the device.
If I select yes, it tries to find the device in WMP and tells me it is not connected !
If I go into Control Panel- Device Manager tells me that I DO have a zen micro connected under the "Windows Media Devices" section.
Zens micro media explorer now also fails to see my device and thinks it is disconnected.
So I have no way of transferring files to my zen micro.
In an attempt to remove the problem I try going into rescue mode on the zen and reloading the firmware to an earlier version, with a version I have downloaded from this website .0.03.
The zen successfully erases the firmware and behold, my pc still fails to recognise the device so it cannot install any firmware on top of this.
So now I have a Zen with no firmware installed (and a "firmware problem" message everytime I turn it on) and a pc that won't recognise it anymore.
I have spent a good 5 hours this evening trying to fix this.
I have tried everything on these forums, but I simply cannot get my PC to connect to the zen micro, despite it recognising it everytime I connect it !
Please help before me or the zen dies !
    Thanks,
    Mat.

Here is a note I sent to the Creative support folks. They simply suggested I go back to firmware .0.03.
I have to admit, going back to the other firmware update does not seem to be the true resolution, but I really don't have any more time to waste fixing your bugs. So, I am now on .0.03. It's a good thing I synchronized all 920+ songs, or I would not be a happy camper right now. :-)
I will tell you it appears to be a multiple USB issue with your new firmware. I experimented with this, and found that if I have my iPAQ connected into my USB ports, as well as my USB mouse, my USB CD/DVD dri've and my USB Keyboard, the MTP explorer will not recognize the Zen Micro.
When I take the iPAQ out, magically, the Zen Micro gets recognized and the MTP Explorer is working. THIS ONLY HAPPENS WITH THE MTP FIRMWARE!!
I am now back to the .0.03 release of the firmware and none if this happens. As I write this to you, I have everything connected and I am ripping a CD to my device - no problems. I am fortunate however to have a laptop that I was able to do this with, otherwise I would be in the same place others are, and the upgrade frimware doesn't ever recognize the Zen Micro, even though it is in the Device Manager. ?
So, I would say, that your MTP firmware takes control too much, and seems to substitute for something like an iPAQ, where they cannot co-exist or other USB harware, such as a memory reader (CF, SmartMemory, etc.). This is not a PC USB issue, in my mind. It is a firmware issue that is causing the conflict.
    Thanks.

  • Zen Micro not connecti

A Zen Micro 6gig with ..0 firmware will not connect to my PC. I use a USB 2.0 cable and Windows Vista.
    Any solutions?
I've run a disk cleanup. Taht's it so far.

I had the same problem on purchasing a new laptop running Vista. You have to change to running firmware version 2.xx (2.2.02 is the latest I think), which also formats the hard disk, so you have to back up all your music first!

  • [Edit]Problem with Zen Micro when connected to PC-- cleared but another prob

    Hello,
My problem is that my Computer (winxp, sp2) does not identify my zen micro any longer. few days ago it worked perfectly but now it doesnt work.
my zen micro has the firmware with the MTP/plays for sure
I had installed the things from the cd, when I bought it, that was in the package and then new drivers and the new applications, so two programs. (I had two Zen Micro symbols on my desktop but I could only use the program with MTP)
    it worked fine.
a few weeks ago I had the same problem, but after a few connectings and disconnectings it worked again.
today this doesnt helped. I uninstalled everything what had to do with creative and then only installed new drivers and the newest applications (without the things from the cd).
    it still doesnt work.
when I click on the "Zen Micro Media Explorer (MTP)" on the desktop I can see that my zen micro is connected. When I go to my playlists and click on one, it seems that my playlist is "empty". but in the mp3-player there is the playlist!
when I click on my music folder, where all the music is I see the folders, but when I go into the folders, the folders are also "empty".
what happened? I changed the usb ports--> doesnt work...
what can I do in order to use my zen micro again on the pc. my zen micro works fine(playlists and songs work normally), but I have problems having connected it to my pc... I cannot copy songs and edit my playlists anymore. is there any way to edit the playlists via mp3-player without connecting to the pc?
I hope you have a helping answer for me.
    Regards

ok guys, I almost solved the problem. I used the rescue mode, used clean up, and now the folders are not empty and I can copy songs into my Zen Micro.
But the playlists are "empty". Also when I want to create a new playlist it says that my mp3-player is not connected ?! But it is! I can copy files into it!
I also cannot synchronize it with WMP0.
I reinstalled software and it didnt help...
So what can I do? It is connected but I cannot edit my playlists.
Is there any way to edit the playlists via the mp3-player and not over the pc?Message Edited by expredator on 02-08-2005 :00 PM

  • Problems with Zen MIcro not turning on or

I have a problem with my Zen Micro not turning on or off. The only way to turn it on is to plug it into the power or USB cable :-(
I have done a quick search and the posts that I have found on this topic suggest that I will need to send it back to Creative! Anyone found a "magic" solution for this problem other than sending it back?
I have done a firmware upgrade just in case that would solve the problem but unfortunately it did not.
What with this problem and the earlier problems I had with battery life I am thinking of sending the thing back and going for a different Creative player. The Zen Sleek seems to have a good range of features ... anyone had any good or bad experiences with the Sleek?
    Any comments appreciated.

well..unfortunatly i have had this same problem. i made a topic about it and some of u may have read it..i can't seem to find it now. but i have found the resolution to this problem..send it back! i baught my from circuit city..i just got home from there..very nice guy helped me out at the customer service counter. grabbed my receipt, all the contents it origionally included and the box and headed to circuit city. i did exchange the zen micro for another zen micro. we both converstaed with eahochter about how i have heard other ppl complain about this problem. creative needs to do there homework. hopefully it won't happen to me again.

  • Zen Micro not recognized on one PC but is fine with 2 oth

Before I get totally frustrated with my PC, not the new Zen Micro 6g, what could I be overlooking to get the software and the PC to recognize this unit's This PC has Windows XP (no service packs installed), and after restoring system and reinstalling the software, I have the same problem: I connect the Zen to the USB cable, it says "Found New Hardware" and then proceeds to want to reinstall the software and drivers again from the CD. Naturally, it should have picked up the installed software and drivers but it hasn't.
On my other 2 PCs, one with Win XP sp2 and the other, my Toshiba laptop with Windows Media Player 2005 Edition, no problems at all. Immediately recognized the player after installation of the software and drivers.
I am almost at the point of not bothering to install it on the last PC as it works on 2 out of 3 fine but I would like to find out what could possibly be the problem. The two towers are identically set up: same Intel865Perl mbs, same hardware - only difference is the OS.
I have unistalled and reinstalled, system restored a few times, and I give up.
    Any ideas are appreciated.

Thanks everyone. Oh, boy, I have a lot to search out, huh? Well, the chipsets are the same. The OS's are different though. I tried the USB from the mb....nothing. I do have an add-in card from Adaptec which is a dual connect card....contains 3 USB ports and 2 firewire ports. Nice card, usually works fine. All my other USB devices such as Canon camera, Sony camera, all work fine from both places. But, it might not like the Zen. Not sure why Zen wouldn't be compatible with an Adaptec USB card but I do know that Windows XP with no service packs does NOT recognize 2.0. just .. And I do get a message that states that I am connect a high-speed device with a non-high speed USB port. If that's the problem, why does it say "Found New Hardware" in the first place? And it does show up in Device Manager when connected, but with the yellow markings. It's listed under "Other Devices", and if I remove it, reboot and reconnect, the same message comes up asking me to install the drivers again.
I could upgrade this PC but I don't think that is going to make any difference, except that it will recognize the 2.0 USB ports.
I'm going to keep trying until I get it right. Any other ideas short of giving up?

  • Dime in a dozen? Zen Micro not detect

As the title explains it, the Zen Micro, bought last June, is not detected. Initially, it was always stuck on the Creative start-up screen. So, I when I finally made it to the recovery screen, I did a firmware "reload". I then connected it to the PC for the reloading of latest "2.2.2.0" firmware.
From there, I experienced the "Your player is not connected, please connect your player" sign.
I tried uninstalling the driver and reinstalling the issued one (in driver disk, though it didn't work) and from the website (newer version, to no avail).
Currently, whenever I connect the Micro to the computer, an autoplay option menu pops up and asks if I would like to use WMP, windows explorer or take no action. I chose the latter all the time. However, once it pops up, the screen on the micro changes to the "recovery mode(not too sure if the word is mode)", where I can't control the player. Currently, I have done the disk clean up and formatting on it too.
Any suggestions? I won't take no for an answer. However, if there is reallly no suggestion, I would much appreciate it if anyone could give me instructions to take it to a repair center, and the approximate cost. By the way, I li've in Singapore.
Sorry for the long post though, and thank you in advance.

I think WMP is the root of many of these connection problems. I upgraded my Zen Touch, then found out it would not work with the existing MTP firmware. I could not connect the player to upgrade the firmware, so had to revert back to WMP0 to get that done. From then on, my player is not recognized despite exhausting everything I've found here and elsewhere. Creative says on their knowlegebase that what I did causes this issue and that they are investigating a firmware upgrade to correct it. What they should do is warn people about upgrading firmware to the latest version BEFORE trying WMP. I see nothing about this other than in obscure places where somebody might find it AFTER they are stuck.

  • Zen Micro "not detect

The software and drivers installation seems fine but my laptop doesn't seem to detect the new shiny Zen Micro (5Gb) when i plugged it in. (I'm using a BenQ 500G .6Ghz Centrino laptop with Windows XP SP2 installed). I tried plugging it in on another laptop, a clean install of Windows XP and ME, changing the USB cable still the problem persist. I noticed that I can't get the battery to be fully charged either. The battery indicator either shows a single or two bar only (even after more than 3 hours of charging). Has anyone had any issues with the batteries? I know some folks has had problems with the connection too.. Please advice. Thanks!

I already did. The shop had problem testing a couple of new Zen Micros on their machine as well. I guess I'd save a couple of potential owners the agony of trying to have their player workin. The salesgirl couldn't stop saying how sorry she was and was kind enough to help me with the problem. Now that's good customer service! Otherwise if the shop still can't help me with the problem, Creative HQ in Singapore is just a walk away from my home. I would sure be banging on their door!
Anyways I guess Creative must have some bad production batch in stores so folks make sure you have the shop test them for you before you finalize the sale. That would have help me I guess.
I have to say the problems I faced did not diminish the fact that the Zen Micro is indeed an excellent MP3 Player. So any of you who have intentions of getting one go get it. This is a support forum so you'll see only the "bad" stuff!

  • Zen Micro not working

Yes, I know, loads of other topics with the same problems... Sorry... But I've had my Zen Micro for well over a year now, and it's worked like a dream up until now. Suddenly, this morning, the keypad froze. And the on/off button would not work. I did the usual thing in these situations, removing the battery and putting it back in again. Problem still went on. I tried uploading more music because I was out of ideas as to what else to do. And by the way, I've never updated the firmware in it, or whatever it is you download on to it, because I physically can't (I only have 2 USB ports, my sister broke the two on the front, so I must remove the internet to plug the Zen in). So has anyone else had the same problem? If so, how did you fix it if you did get it fixed?Any help would be much appreciated.

    Hi,
I'm trying to repair my friend's zen right now. It appears that your zen has a problem with the power switch. Try taking off the cover and looking at the connections where the power switch connects to the board. My friend's micro power swith broke off and has the same symptoms, hopefully you can just resolder one of the connections and it will work again. If anyone knows where to get another power swith, that would be great cause my friends micro no longer has one...Message Edited by nahatley on -02-200609:02 PM

  • Zen micro not charg

Hi guys, I looked thru the FAQ and previous postings but can't seem to find anything on this problem. Anyways, I can't seem to get my zen micro to charge via the wall charger even though the battery is near dead, no bars. The micro just acts as if it isn't plugged in at all. I tried using a power strip to try to 'jump' start the battery as suggested as well as keeping the hold on when charging but nothing seems to work. I'm currently on a long trip without my usb connector so I can't try connecting to a computer. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what else I can try to get this thing charging? Thanks.Message Edited by ppong828 on 08-26-2005 03:23 AM

thx ssr for the suggestion. fortunately i'm living with someone who has a multimeter but unfortunately I'm not so great with this sort of electronical testing. I'm not exactly sure how to use one to test the usb end of the wall charger for the output voltage since the output end is so small but I couldn't get any reading. Also, I couldn't get a resistance on the input end so maybe that means that the wall charger may have shorted out. thx again for your help.

  • Zen Micro not recognised by

    Hi all,
I need help. My Zen Micro refused to be recognised by my PC. I have installed, deleted, re-installed, deleted till the cows came home and still whenever I connect my Zen Micro to my PC, it gives me a message that my USB is not functioning properly.
I have confirmed that the unit is working (I brought it down to the service center and connected it there and it works). So I suspect that there is some corrupted driver somewhere.
Thing is, I even put my PC into save mode and manually deleted the creative folder and still no luck.
Also the unit hangs when this happens.
    Can anyone help?
This is the first time I am using a Creative portable audio player.

    Hi,
I just registered on this forum and was going to post my problem when I noticed this post.....
This exact same thing has happenned to me today with a Zen Touch that I have. It just refuses to be recognised by my PC. As per richielo I have installed, deleted, re-installed, deleted till the cows came home and still whenever I connect my Zen Touch to my PC, it gives me a message that my USB is not functioning properly.
I know my USB is OK as I have connected other devices to the same port and they work fine. The weird thing too is it used to work but doesnt work anymore.
I followed the install instructions to the letter and all the software went on OK but when the PC restarts it doesnt recognise the Zen Touch.
I have contacted Customer Support in Australia and he had no answer. So we thought we would format the Zen Touch. We did so and now we are getting a Firmware error. So he sent me the firmware driver and I have tried to install it but it wont go through as the USB port doesnt recognise the Zen Touch. This feels like one big downward spiral and the thing is getting worse and worse.
    Please help ASAP.
    Thanks,
    Miguel

  • Zen Micro Not Recogni

I recently updated the firmware on my Zen Micro in an attempt to fix some problems. It worked, but since that time the Zen Micro Media Explorer (ZMME) program has not recognized my player (says it's not connected -- it is). As suggested in many other other posts, I downloaded the Micro Media Explorer Web Update (dated 07/3/05), but that changed nothing. Is there something else I can do? I have been using WMP to transfer music, but I don't really like it as well as the ZMME, so I'd love to fix the problem.
    Thanks.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, MediaSource was/is working and I believe I downloaded everything that I "should" have. In any event, I solved the problem by uninstalling EVERYTHING (software, device, etc) and starting fresh. I went a little further with this process than I had before and it worked. Took forever though. I hope never to have to do it again.

  • Zen Micro not working, frozen when reboot

I recently purchased a zen micro 5g. For some strange reason my player froze I attempted to shut it off, it did not do it. So I removed the battery put it back in, the creative screen illuminated and was stuck there and makes a weird noise that is soft and can only be heard when I put my ear up to the battery when , I could still not shut it off w/out removing the battery. I did the recovery mode and each option I choose it gets stuck on. So I tried to download a firmware, followed the instructions?and all went well and I connected my device to my computer and it did not recognize it, the creative mediasource doesn't recognize it nor does my computer. But I know the cable works because I can connect it to the player and remove the battery and the screen stays on. This is very frustrating because I bought this recently after losing a Samsung. If no one here has a solution than can someone suggest how to return the product for repair or replacement sich I bought this about 3 weeks ago and it is still under warrentyMessage Edited by nub88 on 07-23-20070:53 PM

Did you download the right plugin for MediaSource? What firmware version are you using?
If you're using the v.xx PDE firmware, make sure you have downloaded and installed the following:
. Creative Zen and Jukebox Driver Upgrade version .30.03
    2. Creative MediaSource Player/Organizer 3.30.2
    3. Creative Zen and NOMAD Jukebox plugin 2.00.20 for Creative MediaSource
    4. Creative Zen Micro Media Explorer Web Update
Install , then connect the player to the PC. Then install 2, 3 and 4 (the player must be connected for 2 to verify you have a Creative product).
