Zen Micro not working

Yes, I know, loads of other topics with the same problems... Sorry... But I've had my Zen Micro for well over a year now, and it's worked like a dream up until now. Suddenly, this morning, the keypad froze. And the on/off button would not work. I did the usual thing in these situations, removing the battery and putting it back in again. Problem still went on. I tried uploading more music because I was out of ideas as to what else to do. And by the way, I've never updated the firmware in it, or whatever it is you download on to it, because I physically can't (I only have 2 USB ports, my sister broke the two on the front, so I must remove the internet to plug the Zen in). So has anyone else had the same problem? If so, how did you fix it if you did get it fixed?Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi,
I'm trying to repair my friend's zen right now. It appears that your zen has a problem with the power switch. Try taking off the cover and looking at the connections where the power switch connects to the board. My friend's micro power swith broke off and has the same symptoms, hopefully you can just resolder one of the connections and it will work again. If anyone knows where to get another power swith, that would be great cause my friends micro no longer has one...Message Edited by nahatley on -02-200609:02 PM

• Zen Micro not working, frozen when reboot

I recently purchased a zen micro 5g. For some strange reason my player froze I attempted to shut it off, it did not do it. So I removed the battery put it back in, the creative screen illuminated and was stuck there and makes a weird noise that is soft and can only be heard when I put my ear up to the battery when , I could still not shut it off w/out removing the battery. I did the recovery mode and each option I choose it gets stuck on. So I tried to download a firmware, followed the instructions?and all went well and I connected my device to my computer and it did not recognize it, the creative mediasource doesn't recognize it nor does my computer. But I know the cable works because I can connect it to the player and remove the battery and the screen stays on. This is very frustrating because I bought this recently after losing a Samsung. If no one here has a solution than can someone suggest how to return the product for repair or replacement sich I bought this about 3 weeks ago and it is still under warrentyMessage Edited by nub88 on 07-23-20070:53 PM

Did you download the right plugin for MediaSource? What firmware version are you using?
If you're using the v.xx PDE firmware, make sure you have downloaded and installed the following:
. Creative Zen and Jukebox Driver Upgrade version .30.03
2. Creative MediaSource Player/Organizer 3.30.2
3. Creative Zen and NOMAD Jukebox plugin 2.00.20 for Creative MediaSource
4. Creative Zen Micro Media Explorer Web Update
Install , then connect the player to the PC. Then install 2, 3 and 4 (the player must be connected for 2 to verify you have a Creative product).

• Zen Micro not working, neither Recovery M

Hi people,
I had been having problems with my player for more than a year and I left it over. Now i'm trying to make it work
First of all, the player gets stuck in its white screen.
Then, when I go recovery mode, I can't choose any option, and lately it's has been loosing bright also
When I try to connect it to the PC, it's recognized as a Generic usb device, but with malfunctions
The strange thing is that, after trying many many times, I had been able to choose "format" in the RM, but then it was 'formatting' more than any day without any new. Player was not full, neither dropped.
BTW, It's very difficult for me to send it back to Creative since I'm from Argentina. I bought it in Chicago maybe 3 years ago, and it didn't worked more than 6 months
If it's useful, I'm able to read that the FW is v.0.0.58
I'm looking forward to have a solution soon
Regards, zAnteeh

• ***Dropped Zen Micro Not Working 100%

I recently dropped my Zen Micro Mp3 player from a height of about 4 Feet. When I turned it back on I found out that the Player was not working correctly. I can only scroll up (no matter what direction I scroll it always moves up). Im not able to use any other options besides "All Tracks" because I cant scroll down to select them. My Volume is always at MAX because I cant lower it. I can still use the Fast-Forward and Re-Wind buttons. The Play/Pause button still works. So do the "Menu" and "Back" buttons. The only problem is the Scroll bar(or button whatever its called). It can tell when im touching it because it shows the volume that its at and it can still scroll (Like I said before, only up). Anyone know how to fix this without having to send it in? I dont have a warranty anymore.

Hmm, thats odd considering i dropped mine over 0 feet onto a concrete floor and it works fine, considering that it beeps every so often. Well, to your problem, have you tried recovering the player by taking the battery out, and turning the power on at the same time you are putting the battery in?

• Zen Micro not working prope

Hi - I'm sure my problem is not an unusual one and I am posting purely out of sheer desperation. I currently have a Creative Zen Micro 5GB.
For some reason, my PC is not detecting my Zen Micro. I even unplugged it from one USB port and connected it to another (I have 3) and nothing. I downloaded and installed the latest organizer and the plug-in as specified in the FAQ. Still nothing.
Under My Computer, my device shows. But when I open the Zen Micro Explorer, it says that my device is not connected to the computer. In the Organizer, I can't see my device either. I can sync from Windows Media Player (where my device shows) but doing that does not allow me to create playlists (unless it's some neat trick I don't know?).
I'm at my wits end and really on the verge of buying another MP3 player that is NOT Creative. I have only had this device since October and I started having firmware problems only 2 weeks after purchase.
Any help anyone can offer is greatly appreciated.
I am running Windows XP - and have uninstalled and re-installed the Creative software.
Thanks!
Marcy

• HELP APPRECIATED. Zen Micro not working or displaying text

So, um...my Zen Micro suddenly stopped working. It was working fine yesterday. I charged it and turned it off, then later went to turn it on and...well...everything lit up fine, but no text, no symbols, nothing is displaying. The screen is lit up, the blue around the pad is lit up, but nothing is displaying on the screen, no matter how many times I turn it on or off. It still plays music on my computer, but that's about it. I already tried resetting it by removing the battery for 5 seconds and putting it back in. Tried that a few times, still nothing. • Power switch on Zen Micro not working. Hold works, though. It turns on if I plug it

I was given my friend's Zen Micro because it was broken.
So I opened it up and managed to fix it...but it only turns on when I plug it in to the PC.
I can switch the hold button across and it holds (the padlock shows up on screen), but I can't actually switch it on or off at all.
To turn it off I have to wait 'till it idles out.
And to turn it on... I have to plug it in, like I said.
What could I do to fix it's The switch looks normal on the circuit board...but I can't help but think that something inside the switch has become disconnected...but it's a bit too small to actually take apart.
The only alternati've I can think of is to buy a wired remote...but that's my last resort.

OK, your Zen Micro worked with your older computer, correct?
Was your older computer an XP machine or an earlier version of Windows?
As far as I know, XP requires the PlaysForSure firmware to work with your Zen Micro. You need Service Pack 2 and Windows Media Player 0 too.
You can find the drivers, firmware and software that you need by clicking the Support menu on the Creative banner at the top of the page-> Downloads->MP3 Players-> Zen-> Zen Micro, select your language and Operating System and then the drivers, firmware and software that you need.
Be sure to click the Show Details... pop-up for more information and instructions.

• Zen Micro Not Working-If you can help-Please

I just got this zen today. I signed up with Napster to go. Downloaded the new firmware driver updates. Made sure my zen was fully charged before using. Plugged my zen into my computer. Transferred songs from Napster to MP3. Napster said the transfer was complete. Unplugged my zen and the screen says "Now playing Select Music to PLAY from Music Library" It won't play any songs, and no songs show up which leaves me to believe that no songs actually transferred like it said they did. I am so upset! I have been at this thing for three hours already! I just want my music to play! GRR!

krystennicole, the thing with the Zen Micro (and other players, too) is that they use playlists. This means that it doesn't matter if you got 000 songs in it, it won't play anything that's not in the playlist.
Now, you JUST loaded up your songs, and you have an empty playlist. What you need to do is add all your songs to the playlist to be able to listen to them. Later you can make playlists for separate genres if you like, but let's concentrate on what you want to do now: Listen to your music.
Not sure if this is stated in the manual of the ZM, but here's a quickstart.
Go to Music Library, and select All Tracks. Scroll to the one you'd like to begin with, and click Play. Now, all your songs will be loaded into the "Now Playing" list, and you'll be able to listen to all of them!

• Zen Micro not work

When I turn my zen micro on it lights up in just stay on the opening creative screen. Also for the first few seconds it makes this werid buzzing sound. What should I do?

do you hear any (low-volume) ticking sound... (during the boot sequence...) Ppl have reported hearing such ticking sounds, and the explanation usually was a minidisc failure.
btw, did you do any running or other excessiving shaking while it was on? that's to be avoided Message Edited by fred_be9300 on 06-22-2005 05:35 PM

• Zen Micro not working out of the

So I followed the instructions and charged it up, after about 3 hours or so the charge icon disapeared... cool I thought... I unplug it and turn it on.
The screen start up is pretty I think, but now I can't get it to do anything.
The screen looks a little like this:
Now Playing [|||]
Select music to PLAY
form the Music Library
--:--:-- -00:00:00
I am not pleased about this....
I have tried updating the firmware but the update bar goes half way across then hangs..
I even downloaded the new creative software but I am starting to regret it.
I would appreciate some help please...
Anyone

The most important thing you gotta do is install the latest drivers and software. You can't just take it out of the box and start using it like the iPod. This what a lot of users hate, but deal with it, it's only a small problem. It's not like that problem will decide your fate on getting an MP3 player.
If you don't install the driver, problems will occur with your MP3 player.
Flash the firmware if you want to but decide if you are going to use "playsforsure" service like Napster to Go. Flash to the latest 2.X firmware.
If you are someone who likes to download MP3s or rip it from CDs, flash to the latest .X firmware. I use the latest .X and I have no problems with it so far.
The reason why you can't do anything on the first screen is because the Now Playing screen has no music selected. This doesn't mean your MP3 is broken and that you should start running some tests and fixes. And finally if you don't have your headphones connected, controlling the Micro will be very hard. This problem happens to everyone.
Take my advice, install the latest software and drivers at least. Then decide if you still want to use WMP0 or not. I hate using WMP0, it takes up too much computer resources. And if you think your Micro is broken, then you have to call creative about it.Message Edited by Shinryuu on 04-22-2005 0:54 PM

• Creative Zen Micro Not compatible with Windows Vi

My daughter has a Creative Zen Micro MP3 player, no video feature, just the the music player. She recently got a new computer that runs Windows Vista. She tried to install the program on her new computer, and it said the software was not compatible with Windows Vista. Does that mean I need to get new software from Creative Zen? to use the program on The computer running?Windows Vista? Any help would be appreciated..

The software that came on the original CD is not supported on vista.
The Zen Micro will work nati'vely with Vista if it contains the latest firmware version. If the Zen Micro isn't being recognized by Vista then you will need to use an older system (windows xp) to upgrade the firmware on the Zen Micro. Once Vista recognizes the Zen Micro you should be able to download Vista compatable versions of the software for the device from the creative website.

• Zen Micro not loading

Can someone plzz help me.
Today i drop my zen from a table(not that high)after my zen micro stop working. what happend was i was listing to the radio then went to play an album but the song never played so i said skip to the next song and all what happened was the icon change to next song. so i went to trun it off but still nothing happened so i took the battey out and waited a min or 2 then put it back in and now the gets stuck on load up (it stops at the Creative name). so i was looking on the net and saw about the recovery mode so i though i would clean up or format it but when i do anything happens it comes up with the message saying formatting or whatever and just gets stuck on that screen.

If nothing from rescue mode works you'll need to contact Creative Support.

• Zen micro not connect

after installing all the software on my computer (xp with all sservice packs),
the device shows up. but when you click on icon, it states that the zen is not connected?
installed it on different computer and it works fine,
can anybody PLEASE help me?
ps: does zen micro only work with usb2?
kai

the micro is backwardly compatable with USB aswell as working with USB 2.
often the front ports on a pc run on a built in hub, and the micro often has problems when connected through a hub, because it charges via usb port it requires a lot of power, the full 500mA offered by usb ports and through a non powered usb hub the micro often doesnt get enough power to function. so the usb ports at the back are usially the safest.
if the device is showing up in device manager, i suggest a full software instalation. encase something went wrong with it, also you could try updating the player firmware. what firmware do you currently have?

• Zen Micro Not Recognized - Happy End

My Zen Micro is working!!!
I've just promised my first born to a wonderful man called Noel (how much more appropriate could his name be?) in Dublin. He's one of the technicians from Creative, who finally, finally, finally, discovered how to solve my problem. I spent three days trying everything I (and other computer savvy people) could think of. And, I spoke to two other technicians at Creative before being put through to him. Neither of the other two managed to give me the right advice.
It was quite simple in the end: no one knows why the player didn't get recognized to start with, but thereafter, because it had, by then, been plugged into the PC, the installation (I'd uninstalled it and re-installed it) couldn't be completed successfully. The device needed to be removed from the list in My Computer and then the driver had to be extracted manually from the installation disk. The trick was knowing exactly what to do and *which* driver to extract. This man Noel is a genius. He's the only one who knew what to do. No "Well, we could try this; we could try that...". He just knew.
If you're having problems with your player, call Creative in Dublin and ask for Noel. :smileyvery-happy:Message Edited by Bela on 2-20-2004 08:05 PM

Jess,
The PlayForSure firmware is intended to work with Windows XP platform. If you're going to work with other OS, I would suggest you to reload the firmware to the other firmware version .xx.xx. You can find this firmware from the download page too. Note that you need to perform this update process on your XP computer.

• Problems with Zen MIcro not turning on or

I have a problem with my Zen Micro not turning on or off. The only way to turn it on is to plug it into the power or USB cable :-(
I have done a quick search and the posts that I have found on this topic suggest that I will need to send it back to Creative! Anyone found a "magic" solution for this problem other than sending it back?
I have done a firmware upgrade just in case that would solve the problem but unfortunately it did not.
What with this problem and the earlier problems I had with battery life I am thinking of sending the thing back and going for a different Creative player. The Zen Sleek seems to have a good range of features ... anyone had any good or bad experiences with the Sleek?
Any comments appreciated.

well..unfortunatly i have had this same problem. i made a topic about it and some of u may have read it..i can't seem to find it now. but i have found the resolution to this problem..send it back! i baught my from circuit city..i just got home from there..very nice guy helped me out at the customer service counter. grabbed my receipt, all the contents it origionally included and the box and headed to circuit city. i did exchange the zen micro for another zen micro. we both converstaed with eahochter about how i have heard other ppl complain about this problem. creative needs to do there homework. hopefully it won't happen to me again.
