Zen micro on/off sliding button probl

I have my micro for 2 months and I started to note that the on/off sliding button isn't functioning well... Its hard to turn on and off the micro and sometimes I can't turn it off... I wonder if maybe with or 2 more months of usage it will stop working... Does anyone had this problem? What did you do/what is really the problem in it.. I think its weird bcz i never hv seen nothing about this problem, my headphone jack is working fine since now though ;P

when you say "its hard to turn on" im assuming that u have to use a lot of force to slide the power button. How often do you use it's And do you always have ur player slide thingy in lock postion most of the time? One of my friend's slide is like that, its a bit diffiult to turn on and requires more push to it, as if it were rusty, but its not metal, so its NOT rusty. Mine is just fine, its like i put oil in it and it just slide easily. btw, i recommened u dont put oil in it, im just using it as an example, lol. (oooh...hope im not jinxing anything for my player)

My Zen Micro has been shuttin off by itself after a few minutes and it always has to rebuild its library every time. It's not low on battery, it has two bars, but it shuts down regardless. Does anyone know how to solve this problem?

• Zen micro photo... biggggg probl

need help desperately! my micro photo won't turn on aprt from when i use the mains adapter. the battery is defiantely in and is fully charged because i charged the whole of last night, but when the mains adapter is in instead of having your green battery symbol in the top right hand corner theres just the plug symbol. basically it looks like it would if you plugged in your zen and took the battery out, suggesting its the battery but when i unplug it it stays on for about 6-7 seconds still without the battery symbol and then turns itself off?!!! it wont even work if i plug it into my pc! which really annoys me cus i want to put my new seasick steve album onto it but i cant!!! help!!!

Dude. My son just complained to me about the same thing. His zen photo micro would play normally and then shut off without warning after a few minutes. We ruled out it was his battery because luckily his original zen micro was handed down to his sister. We did the battery switch and sure enough, sister's kept going while his exhibited the same symptoms. We then had to believe it was either software or hardware. The least costliest thing to do was to go and reflash the firmware.
I went to Creative site and downloaded the latest version firmware and 5 minutes later, he is back up and running. Good luck.

• Zen Micro - Not Recognized, multitude of proble

So, this is fun...
I bought a Zen Micro, it was bad from the getgo.
I RMA it. They send me a refurbed one.
My computer won't recognize it, I called them...they say to RMA it, and tell me they will load firmware 2.20.05 on it.
I RMA it. They send me...
The same one. Serial number and everything. I call them up, they say they sent me the same one because it didn't have anything wrong with it... Okay, it has the basic basic basic (0.0.65), my computer won't recognize it with the driver installed. I tried it on another computer, same dead end. When I turn it on it boots into recovery mode...occassionally it will "dock" but still won't be seen by my computer.
I've tried the KB article SID0053 like they suggested...that's fine. I'm not sure where to go from here. I'm hoping one of you have had this exact same experience, and can help me out. Any ideas?

jabman, does it appear in Device Manager? If so there could be several solutions:
) Download the following 3 hotfixes:
Windows Media Format 9.5 Runtime:
<a href='http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;8922' target=_blank>http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;8922
DRM performance fix:
<a href='http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;902344' target=_blank>http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;902344
Fix for large data transfers:
<a href='http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;89536' target=_blank>http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;89536
2) Open up Task Manager, click on Processes. Look for the name wdfmgr.exe. If it is not listed then. Start, Run, cmd. Type sc start umwdf. Open up Task Manager and verify that wdfmgr.exe is listed.
3) Finally is a registry fix:
Start, run, regedit
Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum
Right click that and select Permissions
In the box at the top click on the name Everyone, if its not listed then click on Add. Type the name Everyone into the box on the bottom and click Ok.
On the part below click on the checkboxes under the Allow column for Full Control and Read.
Also do the same for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\U SB
Click Ok to close that window and close off the Registry Editor.
Hopefully it will work now, also before doing any of those, make sure you are on an Administrator account.Message Edited by DM on 2--2005 2:28 PM

• Zen Micro and Napster to Go probl

I have the Zen Micro and use Napster to Go. I updated the firmware on my player yesterday since synchronizing my player has become very difficult. I have tried using both the Napster to Go and Windows Media Player 0 to do this. With Napster to Go I get a message that the player has stopped responding, usually within 0 minutes, and with WMP it never completes. After 2 hours, the synchronized is only at 8%. Also, I have many songs that show a license error, even though there appears to be no problem playing the songs and downloading on Napster to Go. It is becoming very frustrating. The computer seems to have no problem recognizing the player.
Also, if the battery is nearly dead and I hook the player to the computer, I can't try to sync at all until the battery is charged. Is this normal. I have used other players where if you plug them to the computer they are powered through the computer and charge while they are used.
Any help would be appreciated.

If you have any music on the player that's not on your hard dri've, move it back to the hard dri've now. (Since you just upgraded, that shouldn't be an issue; but since you're gonna reformat your dri've again, I'm just being 00% sure.) Then install the Windows hotfixes listed in the FAQs. Then go into recovery mode (remove battery, then hold power switch in On position while re-inserting battery until menu comes up); from there, choose Format.
If that doesn't fix your problem, go back to recovery mode, choose Reload Firmware, then re-run the firmware upgrade.

• Zen micro: firmware 2.10.05 probl

i have installed the new firmware but now i cannot flash older ones (i wanted to return to .xx) , the upgrading software says "firmware upgrade failed", i also tried to reinstall the 2.0.2 firmware... can anyone help me?

I as well am very disappointed. Having always been an advocate of anything not ipod, I challenged my friend when he announced that he was buying a new ipod mini by buying this micro. They arri'ved at the same time, and i installed the napster service I had purhceased. It informed me that I could not use it's serice without creative's update. So trusting that they would make this player compatible with one of its advertised services, I upgraded the firmware.
BIG mistake. Now, I turn it on only to be stuck in playlist with no songs, and i can't get out of it. I have gone to recovery and tried to uninstall the flash and reload an earlier version to get basic functionality back, but to no avail. All previous versions fail to install. I can only reinstall the firmware which puts me back into the playlist with no songs.
This is really quite shoddy. I cannont believe that Creative would attempt to compete with Mac in this manner. I realize it was a beta, but most beta's you can uninstall!!. I realize that a new version is underway, but I would ask that at least some firmware uninstall be made available for the interem. As we speek, I own a 270 dollar paper weight, and I get to watch my friend enjoying flawless playback on his mini.
Every day I wait is tempting me to send this back, and follow his lead..... please make an uninstall available within days!

• Creative Zen Micro 4GB - Headphone jack & transferring probl

I haven't updated my firmware since I got the player in May (out of the box firmware update? Go away).
My headphone jack is loose. I'll often only have music in one ear, especially if I'm walking or sitting down and have the player in my pocket or bag. I've started carrying my discman because I don't like pulling out my $300 mp3 player every couple of minutes. Is that the infamous solder problem?
Also, my computer no longer recognizes the player. My sister had the problem a little while ago (same player, newer firmware because she got hers a month ago), and we reinstalled the drivers and everything is cool. Mine still doesn't work.

Sounds like it.

What firmware do you have on your player?
Have you run a disk cleanup from rescue mode?
When you connect the player is it listed in Device Manager?

• Zen Micro lose Power when Switched OFF??

Hello,
I was wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same problem as me. I fully charged my Zen Micro last night and then left it and just switch it on for the first time now (8 hours later), and the battery indicator shows 2 bars left?
Seems like the Zen Micro loses power even when switched off!?!
Can anyone confirm that this is the case and whether I can do anything to stop it from happening? Is this normal with Hard Dri've MP3 player or only with the Zen Micro?
Thanks.

<EDIT: (April st, 2005):<<FONT color=#330000>JazzMC has taken the initiati've and written a sort of FAQ and put together a website with all the information to date gathered in one place regarding this power drain of the Zen Micro while off (in standby). Ditto here. I did do a disk cleanup last week and the micro seems to be holding it's charge longer now. It's still draining the battery while sitting idle though according to the bar indicator, but slower (go figure?). This is my only real issue with the Zen Micro as I love it otherwise!
One wierd thing I noticed was I charged it full then left it sit for about 3 days (checking it off and on) then on day 3 it was at one bar. So I plugged it into my home sterio and turned it on to see how long it would play for. I was really surprised to see it last a few minutes shy of 9 hours...
Could this be a battery calibration thing instead of it just loosing charge? Like the meter misreads the batteries actual charge over time instead of it loosing power?
Donno it's wacky, please fix Creative!

• Zen Micro, Screen stuck on Creative logo, free

I was jogging recently and my Zen Micro fell off the pants clip i had on. When i picked my micro up off the ground the song i was listening to, was still playing, and played for another minute, before the micro shut off completely. It then would not turn on with the power button. So i removed the battery, and put it back in, and the micro came on, and the 'creative' logo was the only thing on my screen. With the logo on the screen, my micro wouldn't do anything, and just freezes. Anybody know how to resolve this predicament that im in? Or anybody have this happen to them, and know how to fix it's? I would appreciate any help i could get, Thank you in advance!

You can always try removing the battery and seeing if it reboots correctly, after you tried the Rescue Mode options.
The last option before sending the player in would be a firmware update.
Cheers,
Jan.

• Petition: Zen Micro's "Standby" time length to be user selecta

Currently, when you turn your Zen Micro off, it actually goes into "Standby" mode. The Zen Micro stays in a "Standby" ready state for 24 hour from the last time it was turned off. After 24 hours, the Zen Micro goes into a "Deep Sleep" mode.
"Standby" uses considerably more power from the Zen Micro's battery than "Deep Sleep" mode does. The difference between the two modes is that your Micro will be ready to use almost instanty if turned on from "Standby" and will take approximately 5 seconds to be ready to use if turned on from "Deep Sleep".
This petition is for a user selectable menu item to be added to the Zen Micro's "System/Player Settings" menu to adjust "Standby" - anywhere from a setting of "off" to "24" hours in whatever increments Creative feels are appropriate with 24 hours as default.
If this option were implemented, those who did not mind waiting 5 second for their Micro to be ready to play music would find their batteries last longer if leaving the Micro idle for some time because it would not be draining power in "Standby". Those who use the Zen Micro often, could leave "Standby" at 24 hours, so the player would be ready immediately for them. It's a win-win option.
Please note, this petition isn't a discussion thread - it's simply to show Creative if there is interest from Zen Micro owners for such an option being added to a future firmware update from Creative.

• Zen Micro battery won't charge, can't turn on MP3 pla

Hey guys,
I;ve bought a Creative Zen Micro 5GB, 3 weeks ago and it was working GREAT...until now. I was using it one night until the battery completely drained off and the Zen Micro turned off by itself. The icon "LOW BATTERY" flashed for a few seconds and the unit basically shuts down.
I tried to plug-in the USB 2.0 cable provided by Creative into a PC USB 2.0 port
. the MP3 player wouldn't start up. The blue light glowed, followed up by the intro 'Creative' screen and then it died off. That happens everytime i plugged the unit into a USB port.
2. On the upper right screen on the unit, it showed that power is supplied by the USB port (battery + electric symbol flashing), but the battery wouldn't charge up and I can't turn it on either
My questions are:
a) Since the battery is dead flat, wont the unit still run/function normally if its plugged to a PC USB2.0 port?
b) Why does my Zen Micro die off a few seconds after it's been plugged on to USB?
c) Can't the PC USB power supply charge up my MP3 player battlery?
Please help,
Cheers.

• Zen Micro- No warranty and broken headphone ja

I bought a Zen Micro recently off ebay, and when I got it it turned on and everything went fine, until i plugged in the headphones. I can get it so the headphones work perfectly, but if it moves the slightest bit the sound switches to one-channel, shuts off, or just craps out. There is obviously no warranty, but i would be willing to pay for a fix, whether it be to Creative themselves, or to a repair shop. I have tried multiple earbuds and headphones, and they all have the same problem. Any help?
Thanks,
Chris

I have almost the exact same problem. I bought my Zen Jukebox Xtra just under a year ago, but last month my headphone jack started malfunctioning so that I could only get earplug to play at a time unless I held the male end just right into the connection. I just want to know of an approved place to get it fixed, if there is such a place, or how I would go through Creative to pay for repair. Sorry I'm no help to you, but at least you aren't alone.
Edit: After checking the forums like I guess I should've done first, I found a nice thread about the same thing, and if you follow the links you can find a do-it-yourself website if you trust your soldering skills. The link is here. Hope that hel

• Creative Zen Micro - Please He

I bought a Creative Zen Micro in January 2005 in Singapore. For a while it worked great, but then it just went faulty. Whenever I would try to turn it on it would freeze at the CREATIVE screen. Then after a while, I managed to fix that problem but then when I turned it on every time it would have to re-build the library, and then when it was re-built it went to one of my songs, and no buttons could be pressed, so the song couldn't be changed, or even start/stop, the volume couldn't change - even though no song would play and I definitely couldn't get back to the menu. I have been searching my Zen Micro for the reset button but can't find it. I am in Australia and I was just wondering if these problems could be fixed.

I have the same problem with my zen it freezes at the screen i was wondering how you fixed the problem.

Has anyone have this problem? can it be solved?

Nope, the alarm is off.. I really don't understand why it is doing that! I mean i shut it down, and lock it. So it shouldn't go On by itself!

• Creative Zen Micro--HOLD button proble

Is anyone with a Zen Micro also having problems with the hold button? Mine only works when the player is on. Once I turn the player off, it automatically turns on again. It's very strange. Then when I'm actually able to push it to hold after it's shutdown it just starts up again and maintains that it's on hold (I can't press any buttons on the touchpad). I've tried to reach Creative CS but it's busy or I wait forever. I've come to the desperate point of taking out my battery every time I finish listening to my player. Otherwise I end up with no battery power because it's in my pocket, playing all day while I'm at work.
Anyway, if anyone has had this problem and can hand over any suggestions, they'd be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
